The Brotherhood #1

Kurt's Honour

Rate this book
Shop keeper by day, badass demon fighter by night. Grace's life isn't really that complex until the day Kurt sweeps into her supernatural store. Handsome, talented, and with an ego the size of China, he's a handful, but no more than she can handle. He just needs an attitude 'adjustment'.

Chicago, on the other hand, has more trouble than either of them can deal with, and if they don't get to the bottom of this sudden influx of demons, the whole city will be at risk.

Kurt is the best and brightest of The Brotherhood's elite corps and Grace packs a punch that nobody expected, but even combined will they be enough to save the city?

A slow-build-RH adventure! For readers who are 18+.

Hi!
I'm "Jade" (pen name only). I'm a stay at home mother to three gorgeous young children. I've been writing stories since I was a little girl, but I have never had the confidence to share them. Finally a friend talked me into publishing something, so, "Siren" was born.

I ask you to be kind in your reviews. I know that you may not like what I write, but it doesn't mean that you have to be nasty about it. I don't understand people who feel the need to do that. My books cost less than a cup of coffee. If you didn't like the coffee, would you abuse the person who served you?

I like to "meet" my followers and get to know them. You can find me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jade.thorn.944/

I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

Fun, fast-paced and entertaining.

Kurt's Honour is a very imaginative slow-build-RH adventure starring a badass little witch who's a shop keeper by day and demon fighter by night.

Grace is happy with her more or less simple and easy life, until the day a sexy demon hunter storms into her shop with trouble on his heels.
Their city is threatened by a sudden influx of demons that Kurt and his Brotherhood are trying to stop and Grace finds herself drawn smack down in the middle of it all.

Kurt is the best and brightest of The Brotherhood's elite corps and Grace packs a punch that nobody expected, but even combined will they be enough to save the city?
Perhaps. If Kurt gets past his ego, that happens to be the size of China and gives a little credit to the slip of a woman who seems intent to not back down. :D

Great action, cool magical creatures and a lot of snarky banter, an intriguing mystery and quite a few laugh out loud lines, this book has it all and it's bound to keep you entertained.
My personal favorites were the hellhound who actually rolls his eyes and Mamma - perhaps one of the coolest witches around.

The characters were entertaining but I couldn't really connect to any of them. To me personally, they headed a little bit towards the extreme. Kurt in particular, whose arrogance and macho behavior made him seem like an absolute jerk up to the very end.
But then, this is all a personal opinion that other readers out there may not share.

I loved the way the connection between the characters was built. Instant attraction but not insta-love, followed by a naturally seeming slow-burn and steamy hot scenes.
The plot is evenly paced with a very nicely upped tension while the prose is simple and fast-flowing and the humor never lets up. All qualities of a highly enjoyable read. Neither deep nor very serious, but absolutely entertaining.

The end had me laughing out loud and yep! I admit I didn't see THAT coming!

I'll be definitely picking up more of Jade Thorn's books in the future and highly recommend this one here to anyone in need of a fast-paced fun read.

There's arrogance and then there's confidence. Kurt is certainly an arrogant man, thinking he's God's gift to women and the demon fighting force, but Grace is pure confidence. Confident about her abilities that seem to get misjudged even when seen in action. She's seriously THE BEST female character I've ever read. She's not weak, she's sassy and smart mouthed, intelligent, and she doesn't let people boss her around or undermine her. She knows her worth. I know that I'm going to enjoy this series simply because of her. Other than her awesome character, this book had so much to it that you will love! Action, love, tension, magic, and mystery are all wrapped into this one book. The storyline is amazing (you know it's going to be a good one if the author plans 8 books and 2 novellas) and instantly captivates you. There's so much going on, but it all flows nicely and you're never confused about what happens from one event to the next. One of my favorite books that I've read so far this year.

Needs editing

3 stars the book can use some cleaning up.

The story is by no means bad but the repetition, typos, and continuity detract from the story. Mamma was spelled Mama, NSA was typo’d to NAS, wave was spelled waive etc. these are minor issues but when they continue to happen throughout the book and become more prevalent the less easy the story flows.

Then there are some repetitive phrases or lines. In one section Grace is saying now about something and in the very next sentence has now again in it. Minor but yea.

I also do not like Kurt or Levi. Though Levi seemed marginally better.

Kurt is very misogynistic, I mean he goes around thinking he’s hot stuff and can bed any woman. He sees Grace and all he talks about is bedding her, but there is no substance to it. Any type of seeing them build a relationship is done mostly off page with respect to planning missions and such. Their interactions are on page, but not enough to really dive deep in to their feelings.

I also felt like a lot of the scenes were out of place, I was a bit bored of the story until it got going. Levi was great though even though he too acted like Kurt.

I am interested in seeing where this goes, but the next story needs to be paced a bit better, and cleaned up a bit. Just a run through with a few readers could weed out these issues, and if they were I’d probably rate it higher. It has potential.

DNF @ 53%.

Ya know, I'm generally not sensitive to alpha male bullshit. This book just takes it to an untenable place. I have 20+ quotes in my highlights to give you a taste of the "How to score with chicks - A Manual for Incels" that I just read. The plot and world building are good, but basically anything that identifies as male is that drunken Bro-type that won't leave you alone in a bar.

I have liked other books by this author, but I found this one so distasteful that it'll likely be a while before I pick up another one. Certainly not from this series. 2 Stars for the world building and the likeable heroine. The rest is fucking gross.

The size of this mans ego is off the charts. His confidence borders on arrogance and that usually puts me off but the way he carries himself I just had to love him! The brotherhood are in for a rude awakening with Grace. They will have their hands full. Sidenote I want my own Mato and Momma and Father Mack. They are the best supporting characters

Love the FMC!

Grace is truly amazing, the actual kick-A woman that we all need to read, she calls out the alpha rubbish and owns her own self. The secondary female characters are great too, and there are plenty of hilarious roll-eye moments between them.
Great book, and I've thoroughly enjoyed everything else I've read of Jade's so far.

As I've come to expect from Jade Thorn, this is again a well written, easy to follow story with a kick-ass heroine, more than one love interest, heart warming slow burn, not that great world building and with almost no back story whatsoever.

We have a lot of witches, one of them is Grace, two others are Kurt and Levi. Everyone else doesn't really matter, but just for fun we will get a fairy grandmother thrown in with her very creepy mate to be. As I said, as usual, we don't really get background stories. Grace's mother died 50 years ago, Kurt got a knife from his grandfathet who is also dead, and Levi has issues.

I just can't stand the showy, arrongant, I'm god's gift to women type. Even if they get better about it. Grace doesn't like them either, until she does. Most of the sexual situations feel more inappropriate and/or disturbing than anything else. They go to Grace's dead friend's house and they get frisky? Not to mention having sex DURING the battle where they take down the enemy boss? Yeah, issues. I much prefer Levi's broody snarkiness that turns into toughtfulness when nobody is looking.

The plot itself is what actually keeps you reading, because there is action all around, no time to slow down for even a minute. I can see reading the book just to find out what happened, not because I want to know about the characters. Which is said because I'm usually mostly here for the character development.

The world is interesting, but there are so many gigantic dark spots, that the world building leaves things to be desired. Still, at least there are no boring info dumps anywhere.

All in all, not a bad start, but there is always place for improvement.

When Kurt loses his blade in a fight with a demon, he decides to visit Grace's shop to buy a new one. Instead of selling a new blade though, Grace feels it's better to help Kurt find his lost blade again, setting off a chain of events. What follows are battles with demons and Gods, meetings with witches and the brotherhood, and feelings that seem related to unfamiliar mate bonds.

While this series is a reverse harem series, Grace only meets two of her men in this first book: Levi and Kurt. Both are absolute alphaholes; the kind that feels like they are Gods gift to womankind and that deserve to be taken down a few notches. Fortunately, Grace is sassy and ballsy enough to take these dudes on full force. If you like your characters older, this series is for you: Grace is a thousand years old, give or take a few decennia, and the men have lived more years than us poor mortals as well. I enjoyed the different take on demons and Gods in this series; here they are definitely not the good guys...

Definitely a series that I'm gonna continue on reading, and that I recommend for other readers as well.

Fantastic story! From the very beginning, there was so much action going on. Although, there is a really slow burn, it was worth it! Grace is legit the best. She is a complete badass and one I would NOT want to mess with. Kurt is so damn sexy but his arrogance...it was a bit laughable. This was the first story I've read from Jade Thorn, I would totally read more!

I didn't like Kurt. He was not just confident, he was basically a jerk and made an art out of being condescending and arrogant. I hope he'll get better in the next book because he's pretty low on my tolerance scale as of now.

I liked that we had to deal with goddesses and demons. Makes for a nice change. Grace was a great character and there's still so much mystery around her. She has a lot of potential for future growth which I like.

Nice plot, nice writing, I like that the harem is being built with each book and there's not instant attraction or mate involve but they learn about each other with each page. I'm excited about what the other guys have to offer and what's gonna happen next.

The men are misogynistic douchecanoes

The FMC is a little less than a 1000 years old. Kurt is something like 400-500 years old. Yet they all act like they are late teens.

Kurt and the FMC are talking to Kurt's colleagues for the first time on a speaker phone. This is the first time Levi is talking to the FMC and he just states something along the lines of when "I'm going to fuck you." Whoa, whoa, WTF!. Who would want to even talk to someone that feels they can make those kind of statements to anyone let alone a stranger. AND may I remind you the men are hundreds of years old

The men constantly dismiss, under-estimate, trivialize, demean the FMC. Yet the FMC keeps saving the day. The FMC doesn't even seem to like the men and yet she has random steamy scenes. For example she might be tired, hurt, injured, fed-up and headed to rest and then all of a sudden she's on her knees ready to give someone a bj. WTF!

Did I mention all the characters are hundreds of years old!!! NOPE!!

My biggest gripe is the MMC. He’s a total tool. The FMC is supposed to be over 1500 years old but seems to have zero control over her basic instincts and is so contrary it’s annoying.

The plot seems good but unfortunately the characters can’t carry it for me. Not sure how there’s so many books to be fair.

The editing isn’t atrocious but some things definitely need polishing up.

The personalities of the MMC and suspected second MMC are too similar to each other and too formulaic. They’re both macho, misogynistic jerks, and at least 1 is a renowned player. No thanks.

What a fabulous start to a new series. This book had me sucked in from the very beginning and right the way through. I love the fact that Grace takes no crap and gives as good as she gets, fabulous stuff! The characters are so well written I can see them and the situations they are in as I am reading. I am loving the world that they are in (even though it's the same world we are in but with some differences) I want to know more about The Brotherhood and all the problems they are going to be facing. A really great read.

Kurt's Honour

This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! A must read! Grace is flipping amazing, she's badass and a fire cracker all wrapped up in a petite bundle that could and definitely WILL wipe the floor with you if you push her the wrong way. Kurt is that pain in the arse that will annoy you but make you shake your head with that little smile upon your lips.

If you want a book that you won't put down, (which was what it was like for me). From start to finish I was hooked! Don't pass up on this read because it is the start to a series that you won't want to miss!

Definitely a must read!

I always have trouble getting lost in a story when is not writing in first person, but the characters have enough interactions with each other that I was being pulled into their world.

At one point the author kept me in suspense, and it seriously gave me goosebumps with everything that was happening 😱

The ending was something I definitely wasn’t expecting...... I lol 🤣🤣
Which I don’t think is the ending to Kurt & Grace’s story.......

Can’t wait to read Grace’s Guys and Levi’s Fury.

There was a lot of world building in this book, and it really pulls you into the story. Kurt is arrogant and he underestimates Grace but his attraction to her is instant, but she doesn't put up with his macho rubbish, she sets him straight many, many times. They have to work together to stop the influx of demons which only increase the attraction. There are lots of other great characters in the book too.

Ah-may-Zen! How have I taken this long to read The Brotherhood?

Why, oh, why did I take so long to read The Brotherhood? I have been missing OUT! This book was so original and such a well written piece. I am honestly super impressed. I have read all of Jade's books bar this series and I have to say, this is my new favourite (give me a month and I'll be back on OMAC, but for now it's TB). Thanks, Jade, for being such an amazing author.

A magical tale of a male with an ego bigger than him and a sweet and powerfull seer. They first met when he goes to her store needing magical help and she's hurt. And it's the beginning of their path....
Action packed with turns and twists ,romance, fantasy and steam.
Some black spots in the plot that could be more developed, but in it all it's a good story and I'm curious to read more from Jade Thorn!

I loved this book. From the moment that I started reading I could not put it down. It moves along at a really amazing pace, has characters that no matter what you want to see them overcome everything in their way and a story that will keep you hooked until the very last word is read. This has to be on your TBR list, no doubt about it.

I’ve been with this book from its inception. Being able to alpha read this incredible story was an experience I’ll never forget! I absolutely loved the character development and the way the author took special time to make sure that the book stood up to her standards while also providing an amazing story was something that I loved. I can’t wait to see where else this series going.

Hmmm.

I liked the overall plot and world building. It was cool being introduced to a different type of mythology. Kurt and some of the characters misogyny, chauvinism took away all but a minute amount of their charm. It made it difficult to see these characters as love interests, making the romance aspect of the story less enjoyable.

Great story with complex world building and character development. This was an excellent start to a series and I’m definitely on the hook for the next book. I need to find out what happens after the bathroom scene at the end. Lol. So much action and drama and although it’s “slow burn” that didn’t mean it wasn’t steamy AF. Can’t wait to move on to the next in the series.

Still Sizzling!!

I absolutely LOVE the character development and slow burn in this story. While witches aren't a new concept, Jade definitely puts a more in-depth spin on the supernatural world. I love the mystery between the romantic connections, as well as Grace's own heritage. I can't wait to find out more in the books to come!

Enjoyed This Book

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is full of adventures with witches and demon hunters. Grace and Kirt run into each other. Together they work to help get rid of demons but something lies underneath the surface. I loved that at every page turn their was action.

Good but...

Really liked the female lead, intriguing story but I cannot stand the male romantic interests! They both are incredibly arrogant and chauvinistic, I thought one of them was changed after he went through something traumatic but he turned back into the jerk. Hopefully this changes in the next book.

DNF'd at 66%. It has some promise, but I really didn't like the main male character, his attitudes and thoughts. And the book's idea had some promise, but it just didn't grab and keep me.

I've liked other books by this author and will continue to read her works, but this one just didn't send me. Can't please everybody all the time.

misogyny at its finest

The fmc is amazing but the male is super misogynistic and it’s gross sorry. Idk why women write this stuff. Sp@nking is super triggering to me I find calling a woman a brat because she has her own mind completely messed up. What do they call a man with his own mind…a man. Ugh yuck.
