The Apocalypse Watch: A post-apocalyptic harem story

Rate this book
please read all the way through if you need to be warned about adult content Sometime in the tomorrows after the 23rd century the world ended. Nobody knows how or when, but a small group of people saw it coming, and prepared for the end. Inside secret bunkers they stashed science, guns, robots and a supply of cloned bodies and trusted it all to a computer to wake them up when it was time to rebuild civilization. In the future, every science fantasy had been clones, androids, laser guns, genetically modified supermen and even animals gifted with the ability to walk upright and almost-human intelligence. It all existed, and that was before cataclysmic disasters released biogenetic forces that created mutants, radiation made atomic superbugs, and worldwide computer viruses drove the robots insane. Now, inside one secret bunker for the Tomorrow Program, Jake Mortimer must take on a new mission – save a tribe of evolved humans from man-eating mutants. But it won’t be that easy when the mutants use the ‘Tox’: a psychic power that let’s them control humans. And on top of that, his fellow clone and annoying 23rd century dubutante (and sometimes girlfriend) Milan duPont has gone and got herself kidnapped by the same mutants. Atomic monsters, robots, mutants and the barbarian descendants of humans from the surface world are making one tough day for the Last Real Man. CONTENT this story contains adult themes and imagines a world where today’s cultural norms and civilization wouldn’t cut it. The protagonist happily uses physical violence, foul language, and has the sexual duty to repopulate the world. This story contains a harem and is an Adult Science Fantasy novel.

Disappointing

This particular novel is about the mc trying to save someone who doesn't deserve to be saved, which was rather frustrating to read.

This is missing the story.

It has a set up, it has manufactured problems, it simply lacks an actual narrative. This is drawn out with bloated filler, nothing more.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

This series is still very frustrating but it is showing signs it might be slowly getting better as the MMC is no longer inept or useless. As the book progresses, he becomes less useless and isn't constantly dying anymore. He even starts to appear like a living god to his tribe of followers! Unfortunately much of the book seems like filler as there isn't much in the way of progress in the story and it just seems like hopping from disaster to disaster and/or emergency to emergency.

As of the end of this, the second book, he still hasn't had sex with a single human so how in the hell is he going to fulfill his sacred duty to repopulate the Earth? He's been genetically altered and programmed to be capable of and filled with a strong drive to have lots of sex in order to fulfill this sacred duty. For absolutely no reason (other than it being contrived due to the author trying to minimize the amount of sex in the series) he seems terrified of and avoids having sex unless it's almost a matter of life and death.

So far there's obviously no way this book can legitimately be called a harem story. He even allowed his first real potential love interest (would be 'harem member' if this was actually a harem book as advertised) to be kidnapped and taken away for a very extended period of time and she's still gone at the end of this book. I'd recommend the author to either do a few minutes of research on what the harem genre is or stop advertising it as a harem story.
