Ever After EMP #2

Julia's Journey

Rate this book
In 1859, the modern world got its first taste of being in the direct path of a solar storm, affecting worldwide communications. Today, we got our second. In book two, Shelby's daughter, Julia, is at school in Utah, nearly a thousand miles from her grandfather's homestead. As her friends split off from her route, Julia finds that learning whom to trust along the way is as challenging as the conditions. For Russ, the end of the electrical grid means an early parole from Ely State Prison. Breaking off from the other prisoners to give himself time to make a plan; he sets eyes on 'his firecracker', allowing her path to become his. 18+. I'm an unabashed romance writer who couldn't find post-apocalypse books with sex scenes, so I am creating my own world and welcome you to take a peek! Book 2 is spicier than book 1 due to the characters involved.

This is a MUST READ!

M Merin has created such a unique and riveting world with this series! The first book blew me away and this one, it’s even more phenomenal! Julia’s Journey is a truly captivating read filled with action, emotion, suspense and romance. Every page pulls you in deeper and deeper until you’re so lost in the words the world around you fades away to nothing and you feel like you’re on this journey side by side with Julia and Russ.
Much like her mother Julia is one strong woman. Smart and prepared most of her life for an event like this thanks to her grandfather, there’s no hiding in a corner crying for her. She jumps into action and begins to make her way in this terrifying new world. Where Julia is strong and smart Russ is like the most bad@#$ teddy bear to ever exist. Fresh out of prison and trying to survive he’s immediately drawn to Julia the second he sees her. And that pull only works to make him into a better man. Fiercely protective and endlessly sweet he became one of my all time favorite heroes.
If you’re looking for something new or you’re a long time fan of post apocalyptic romance like me I can’t recommend this series enough! You do not want to pass by these books.

3.5-4

I did like this one more than the first. It had better pacing and character development. Julia and Russ were so good together. They had a bit of insta-love but didn't jump into anything. I like that they got to know each other and build trust. This story did show more of the gritty side to the EMP.

Like the first book, I felt that the story got a bit cheesy when they got to the homestead. But I still liked the ending. I'm not sure that the third book will be released. But either way, it ends on a HFN.

After EMP sex - ✔

I've been patiently waiting for Julia's story and it did not disappoint. Her and Russ pair up nicely. She's knowledgeable in survival and can utilize what she's learned thus far from her nursing studies while he's experienced in other ways of survival that are necessary for their safety. I do wonder if we'll hear from David again though...extra bodies for security and all.
Book 1 of this series was my first post-apocalyptic reading that contained sex. And I'm not talking about the suggestion or mild mentioning but all out good sex (along with some cunnilingus 🤯)! Why are more authors not doing this? So as I did before, I must again thank you Merin for stepping out of the TEOTWAWKI box and giving us something more.

I liked it!

It was an easy read, as far as PA goes. I tore thru it in a few hours. The characters are quick to like. I was surprised it flowed by so quick. Can’t wait for the next one!

Julia’s journey is book two in this post apocalyptic story of a family surviving and finding love during the mist difficult time in their lives. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading in order.

In this story we follow Julia and her very awesome man as they travel from Utah to Washington. There are sweet moments along the way, violence, humor and action. I loved the description of life and how the world has chanced. A also really love that Julia us the knowledgeable one and her love, Russ is the muscle (and Russ might be my favorite character).

The story is mostly about their travels and their developing relationship. I can't wait to read book three because I have a thought that it is going to be filled with action! Woohoo!

Oh and I was really happy that Eddie made it, I was still thinking if him from book one. Great story, amazing series. Definitely check it out!

A gritty compelling read

What woud you do if the world you know just stopped? This is the 2nd book in the series by M Merin and it just grips you and pulls you along for the ride. Julia is in college in Utah and her only thought is to get to her family in Washington State. On her journey she meets Russ an escaped inmate. Together they journey to get to her family. M Merin has written a strong gritty novel that makes you think... what would you do? As you travel the journey with Julia and Russ you have first tow seats to watching their relationship begin to bud and grow. I loved reading this book. It just added to the first book. I highly recommend you read Dark ever after before this if you haven't already.

I have been dying for Julia's book since I read the first! Julia's Journey gives us the story of how Julia went from college to homestead. We also get to meet her hunkalicious beau, Russ. The connection was instant for Julia and Russ and I loved seeing them hold tight to each other while fighting to survive.

Julia is tough as nails and I loved seeing her personality come through the pages. She knows what she's doing and how to survive. Russ has been living in prison for a long time, yet he has this adorable marshmallow feel to him. He's willing to kill, no doubt, but all in favor of saving Julia. Not for pleasure. I loved seeing these two together, their love blossomed and grew in an impossible world.

I'm on the edge of my seat for the third book. So much has changed but I'm so excited to see where this family goes in this new world.

I was so excited to read about Julia and Russ and their journey. I was not disappointed! I absolutely love the way he protected her at all costs even though she’s not a weak woman. Russ has done bad things but he isn’t a bad guy and he proved that through out the book. I love that her family saw that and accepted him. Julia tried to fight what she was feeling from the beginning, at first not know if what she was feeling was just or loneliness from the current events. The two of them didn’t last long though before they realized what they were feeling was real. Such a great couple with a troubling story how they met and survived together but I can’t wait to hear more about them!

Every time I read a book like this I realize I would be among the first wave of casualties. Not because I was stupid, like some of Julia's companions, but because of my various disabilities. I love that Julia is not a helpless damsel in distress that Russ must rescue. He does but she also saves him.

I love this series! The premise is fantastic and the writing is spot on. I would love more character development, but all in all it's definitely full of catnip. I look forward to the third installment.

Really good 2nd book

This book was as good as the first in the series. Julia and Russ are perfect for each other. She's as strong as her mom Shelby. Julia and Russ's journey to her family is realistic enough, but still a love story. M Marin is doing awesome with this series.

“Every girl’s dream in a post-apocalyptic world,”

And this series just keeps getting better! I am having a serious book hangover right now, I want Defending our Ever After...Like now!!
As much as I enjoyed Shelby’s story, I absolutely devoured Julia’s story. Her story is just so heartfelt...you can literally feel her uncertainty, her fear, her desperation on these pages, and oh my lord Russ. Russ is not anything like I had expected him to be. This huge giant hunk of a man who has no problem killing men with his bare hands to protect his ‘firecracker’ lays on a tarp at night confessing his insecurities to Julia. Love this man...so strong, assertive, and a total caveman, but a gentle giant when it comes to Julia.
Russ and Julia’s Journey is very different from Shelby’s and their adventure has its own risks. Russ is in constant fear for Julia’s safety, as the closer they get to her grandfather’s the more danger they seem to encounter. As they approach the safety zone Russ is left to wonder how her family will handle a convicted felon living among them? How will they handle Julia’s choosing a life with Russ? Julia loves Russ...But her family is so important to her as well...will their opinions of Russ destroy what little future they may have together?

Holy moly

This was intense and very thrilling. I liked how confident at times she was and then at times we saw vulnerability in her that I believed. The family especially the mother was very accepting overall.

A very good first book in a series. A very different take on what happens after an EMP. I will have to get book #2. I just realised that this is book #2 not #1, bummer. Oh well, still a good read.

An interesting concept and a fairly decent read if you skip the pornography. Occasionally characters are introduced who do not further the narrative while others are quickly disposed just when you are beginning to enjoy them. There was supposed to be a third installment to the series but I have yet to find it and we are left wondering what will happen to the family and will the precipitating EMP crises be resolved.

great book

It’s better to read books in order to get more of story. This picks up there first ended. Have more detail of the horrors that occur with apocalyptic event. Julia is young but she is a strong person, with common sense. Russ came from jail but he heart is Julia”s. Great book, few things i did not expect. Bravo. Next book

As soon as I finished DARK EVER AFTER, I immediately downloaded JULIA'S JOURNEY and read it all in one afternoon/evening. I just couldn't put it down (as I watched my granddaughter in a horse show and the battery of my device depleting). I can't imagine the physical endurance they had to have while the events around them wrecked their mental endurance and thoughts. As proud of Julia as I was, my hero was Russ! Julia and Russ couldn't have been more different than night and day, but putting their strengths and knowledge together, they made an amazing pair. And as much as I enjoyed Julia's journey to get to her family, I really enjoyed the last few chapters. (no spoilers here!) What a great mixture of relationships, personalities, and skills to make up an amazing cast of characters. I'm so ready for DEFENDING OUR EVER AFTER!
