Kaeli Dagan. Isabella Fiammetta. Daniella Vetoni. Sarah Cristalle. These are the names of four girls who were raised separate from each other, with no knowledge of their true identities. When they finally meet at sixteen, they have no idea that their lives are about to change forever. Not only are they sisters, but their parents are also the King and Queen of the realm of Jaeda, where everyone has supernatural abilities. They are not brought back, however, to a peaceful time in the Kingdom. The girls must now learn to reign in their powers, and fight back against the evil they have come to face. In light of this awakening, they are now realizing that the fate of the Kingdom lies in their hands.

This book is good for a few reasons, the first of which being it leaps right into the bulk of the story: you meet all of the important characters pretty quickly and while it can be a bit hard differentiating between the supporting roles at first, as you read each one of them begins to pop with their own personality, making them distinct. I have to say that the fact that the main characters are racially diverse is great, but so is the fact that personality-wise they're just as diverse. Each of the main girls has a personality that's distinctly different but each of them are relatable to girls and women generally because we all have traits that these characters portray. It's great to finally see a fantasy book with strong female leads that aren't there just to be the "sexy chick who can also fight and has a mean temper". They're compassionate, they're brave, they're anxious, they're in love, they're uncertain, they're everything. Braga's writing also reminds me of classic style authors like Pyle and White, because in between story bits she'll insert some profound ideas that will no doubt make the readers pause and think for a second. This is a great read for all ages, whether you're a grown up or a third grader. Looking forward to the second installment.

This series is seriously one of my favorites. It is so well written and whisks you away to a new world. In a hard time in my life, these gave me the escape I needed. A story of love, family, sacrifice, forgiveness and growth ✨️
