Amia's story is one we can all relate too. The ups and downs of life. Questioning why this is happening and praying for it to be over quickly. The book was full of suspense and kept me interested until the end. I loved how Amia leaned on her faith to guide her decisions. The author told a very relatable story with grace, faith and wisdom. I will be reading more by this author.

Discovering the Covering revolves around the life of Amia and beautifully explores the themes of love, sisterhood, faith, compassion and more. The author has an impeccable hold over narration and that is evident through out. I’m completely blown with the impact it created. The plot is fast paced and the writing pretty compelling. She thoroughly engaged all my emotions and made me connect to the drama from my core. The portrayal of relationships were introspective and the characters were raw. It was so intense and inspiring that it keeps resonating on my mind. Totally devoured it.

Amia is one of the best characters I’ve come across recently. She is head-strong, independent, compassionate, trustworthy, loving and she makes me want to be more like her. The book is beautifully paced and narrated effortlessly which highlights the author’s story telling skills.
I literally finished the book in one day because I just could not stop and didn’t want it to end. Overall, an excellent book to curl up with on a lazy day. I hope Shamicka writes more novels because I will be one of the first ones in the queue to read them. Recommend this for all who enjoy a good fiction novel.

Amia Copeland is a young, successful and beautiful woman with her dream job at a prestigious law firm. As she’s in the prime of her life, she receives a sudden phone call from her mother that uproots her life. Almost overnight, she becomes a legal guardian to her troubled kid brother, Jamari when her mom threatens to send him to juvie. However, taking responsibility for Jamari isn’t the only new challenge that crops up in her life. She also unexpectedly begins to form a deeper connection with her coworker Darren despite her reservations about becoming involved with a fellow worker. Just as she’s beginning to settle down and adjust to the new normal in her life, a confusing encounter with her boss’s drunkard brother that hits a little too close to home for her own comfort. Will Amia succeed in uncovering the truth or will she find herself lost and confused more than ever?
In Discovering the Covering, Shamicka C.Toney has combined love, mystery, religion, drug dealing, action and abandonment issues seamlessly. The author also did a great job of developing several interesting storylines that focused not only on the protagonist but on other characters as well. For example, the dynamics between Elaine and Mari as well as the relationship between Darren and Mari were beautifully written. The theme of religion and the questioning of God and one’s faith is also expertly portrayed in a way that will relate and connect to readers who have experienced similar issues in their lives. An an avid reader from Malaysia, it was great that I could resonate and see myself in the characters in the book as well. Apart from that, there are several action-packed scenes that really helped to keep the plot fresh and keep readers engaged as well. Overall, any reader who enjoys a good mystery complete with elements of romance and familial love will absolutely love this book.

This book is one of the pinnacles among the books I have read. The characters are built very well, drawing the reader in even more. And the narration is one of the cardinals of this book that every chapter will make you keep going to see what happens next.
I especially loved Amia's character in that she was an antithesis of power and charm and Darren's role, one that overwhelmed all the chances of his childhood and turned it around. It is easy to read, and there is nothing to dislike in this book. I'm pretty much sure you will enjoy reading this book and the twists in it as much as I do.
Overall, while reading, you can feel that the worst is not over yet, and you find yourself being pulled in and entirely intrigued by the story. I feel like giving a 5/5 rating to this—an authentic masterpiece.

Shamicka Toney created a story full of adventure and emotions. I really liked this book! You keep connecting with all the characters which is not easy, it is very hard for an author to create empathy between the reader and the characters, but you can expect it in Discovering The Covering.
I recommend Discovering The Covering as it is a great book for us to think about love, trust, compassion and faith. I really enjoyed how the relationships were portrayed, because they seemed to be real and not fictional as in a story. I felt connected with our main character, Amia, and too me this book is a must for this summer. It is easy to read, and the action is well paced.
You can expect a roller coaster of emotions. Believe me when I tell you that it is addictive, I have read it in a day!

OMG! This book has it all! I could not put this book down no matter how many times I tried. The imagery puts you in the middle of every scene. It's so well written that you truly feel these characters and fall in love with them. I want to be Amia. I want Darren's love.
Do yourself a favor and put this one on the list. It's an incredible story about faith, compassion, forgiveness, redemption and on and on. You will laugh and cry and gasp and cheer. You will not be disappointed.

The story is about Amia Copeland, a girl with her cute little quirks, that you can totally relate to and come to admire. Amia is full of life, determination and ambitions. She is someone who is trying to put her life in balance.
The narration of the book is brilliant which makes it an easy read. The author has taken the required amount of time and pace to introduce the characters and plot, part-by-part making it even more believable! It is full of drama, suspense, love and life lessons! A definite page turner!
What I absolutely adored about the book is the strong family bond between Amia and her divorced parents and also with her siblings. It makes us realize the importance of family. I Loved the faith Amia has in god and the power of prayers. A believer myself I loved the way this book has a mature spiritual touch.

First of all, I just want to say that I really loved the tone of the book. It's very easy to read, which helps in getting into the story. I also thought that the ability of the author to write in such a hood style is quite genius as it helped me to connect with the characters and relate to them.
The other thing that I quite liked is the fact that the story develops slowly as you read through the pages, which makes the storyline and plot quite appealing to read. This is the sort of book that you don't put down as soon as you start reading because of that.

OMG! This book has it all! I could not put this book down no matter how many times I tried. The imagery puts you in the middle of every scene. It's so well written that you truly feel these characters and fall in love with them. I want to be Amia. I want Darren's love.
Do yourself a favor and put this one on the list. It's an incredible story about faith, compassion, forgiveness, redemption and on and on. You will laugh and cry and gasp and cheer. You will not be disappointed.
