Elfquest: Stargazer's Hunt #1

Rate this book
When The Final Quest concluded, it ended the hero's journey of Cutter Kinseeker, chief of the Wolfriders. But that was only the start of a new adventure for Cutter's ''brother in all but blood,'' Skywise. Now the stargazer elf, who thought he knew everything about Cutter, discovers how mistaken he was. That, combined with a tragic accident involving his daughter Jink, sends Skywise on a quest of his own, from the elves' ancestral Star Home through uncharted space, and back to the World of Two Moons. Stargazer's Hunt has story by ElfQuest co-creators Wendy and Richard Pini, with script by Wendy Pini. Veteran Elfquest alumnus Sonny Strait returns at full force as the artist and colorist for the new series. All-new material for an established character.

Wendy Pini is one-half of a husband and wife team with Richard Pini that created, most notably, the Elfquest series.

Wendy was born in California and adopted into the Fletcher Family in Santa Clara County. Early on, she developed as an artist and was the illustrator of her high school year book. She submitted samples of her artwork to Marvel Comics at 17 that were rejected.

Pini attended Pitzer College and received her B.A. in the Arts and joined the Los Angeles Science Fiction Society.

In 1972, she married Richard Pini and began illustrating science fiction magazines, including Galaxy, Galileo, and Worlds of If. In 1977, Richard and Wendy established a publishing company called Warp Graphics to publish their first Elfquest comic. Elfquest was self-published for 25 years and in 2003, licensed to DC Comics. The comic series has won several awards, including the Ed Aprill Award for Best Independent Comic, two Alley Awards, the Fantasy Festival Comic Book Awards for Best Alternative Comic, and the Golden Pen Award.

Wendy has illustrated other works, including Jonny Quest in 1986, Law and Chaos in 1987, and in 1989, two graphic novels of Beauty and the Beast. Recently in 2007, she completed a graphic novel entitled The Masque of Red Death.

Wendy has received several awards over the last four decades, including the San Diego Comic Convention Inkpot Award, the New York State Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, the Balrog Award for Best Artist, and was inducted into the Friends of Lulu Women Cartoonists Hall of Fame in 2002.

Wendy and her husband currently reside in Poughkeepsie, New York.

I'm so happy we get more stories from Elfquest! And I love how this story ties together the many stories and worlds told to us before. I always suspected Jinks parentage - or 50% of it - so to read this story now is great.
Also to get answers to questions asked in Final Quest.

Artstyle great and characters great as always

A shocking truth sends Skywise spinning; an attempted healing makes things worse. He goes to the stars to find answers. What is he missing?

I loved revisiting the elves and trolls. The story is great. The art, as usual, is stellar. (I couldn't resist)

The Saga continues

An excellent extension of years of spiraling stories finally coming together, we know Jink's origin and with it an entirely new set of stories.

If you have not read Elfquest The Final Quest then don't read my review, there will be spoilers.

You have been warned...

I really liked the story but I felt like Skywise, mourning Cutter, feeling that things just weren't right without him. So... it does a good job of sending Skywise on his own quest, but the story was very bittersweet. I've been following Elfquest since the 80's so... Cutter was always there and now only in memory. So, I liked this continuation of the Elfquest series because it's Elfquest and the art is fantastic. This is not the graphic novel you should start with if you are not a fan of Elfquest already and have read much of it. And you really need to read The Final Quest GNs first. This one is a must if you are a fan of the Elfquest series, if you really like Skywise, Timmain and want to see the life the growth of Jink the daughter of Skywise and Timmain. So, I will be getting the next GN in the Stargazer's Hunt series as soon as I get a chance.

Further adventures of the elfquest race of elves.

Good color artwork, dark horse freebie. The husband and wife team of Richard and Wendi pini are still generating elfquest material. The female elves are still reasonably proportioned. The story has partially revealing poses, perhaps not suitable for the easily offended?

Aftér the End…

… is theBeginning of smething more! Cutter Kinseeker has decreed his life's end as 'perfect' … now Skywise must deal with the death of his ,'brother in all but blood'. That, & protect his 3-year-old daughter Jink who WILL, innocently, get into EVERYthing…!

I read this one when it was released. It was a very good start of a new story and unexpected to as I didn't think there'd be more after the Final Quest ended. The art is as always so beautiful!
