MORBIUS IS THE LIVING VAMPIRE…OR IS HE MORE? ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES! For years, Nobel Prize winning biologist Michael Morbius has been struggling to cure himself of his vampirism, and now, for the first time in years, one may be within reach! But the path to it is littered with dangers and worse!
Whoops, another review I put off doing and got to kinda late. 😅
I feel like it's kinda hard to review individual issues of comic books since there's only so much you can pack into 22 pages. I already saw one review for this exact title talk about a "first issue problem" where writers introduce too much in the first issue of a new series. I don't really have a problem with that, I like having an idea of what to expect right up front.
I can at least say what led me to starting this series was the trailer for the upcoming Morbius film that came out last week. It really peaked my interest, so I figured I'd give the comics a try while I wait for the film's July release. The most recent series seemed like a safe enough bet! And I'm still kinda new to reading comics, at least having never read a Marvel title until now, so. This story is all new to me.
That being said, I liked this! I kinda liked the way it opened in present day, briefly touching upon Michael's origin story while also setting up the later issues in the series. Even with some of the creepy images of Morbius on display here in true vampire form, I'm still interested in continuing this series. So for that, I consider it a good issue! As for why I didn't give it 5 stars, well, as I said, it's a brand new character and story to me, unlike the DC characters that I do have a bit of familiarity with across various mediums. So I guess you can say I just hesitated to give this that high a rating. And I don't love the art style? But maybe that's just 'cause I've been kinda spoiled with all the wonderful art of DC comics up to this point.

I loved the art but the story didn't hook me. It leans into the horror trappings of the Vampire's tortured soul and offers way too much exposition. The action scenes, though, were solid.
I don't know a lot about Morbius, but I liked this first issue. Actually, I don't know any of these characters, so I want to see where they came from..
It's a good first issue, with nothing very interesting happen. I liked the character's design, but it relies to much on visual appeal and not in the script. Could be pointing in a good direction, but it's hard to know for sure since it is just the beginning and nothing surprising happens.
