I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Bead Jewelry Making For Beginners by Cecelia Leibovitz is a fantastic resource for beginner hobbyists interested in getting into beadwork and jewelry making. It offers a comprehensive list of supplies, an array of different projects - complete with instructions, as well as help with technique, vernacular, and even advice on how to sell and market your crafts. The book comes with color photos to make learning easy. I would highly recommend this book.
Beginner is the key word with this book. No color theory, no description of the history of jewelry, no size or texture or cultural breakdown. It is a straightforward step-by-step book showing basic skills needed to make jewelry pieces.
What is done right - "Make Your Own Findings" is a rare chapter in beginning books and really necessary. Well done.
What could be better - "Basic Techniques" - several times I felt the pictures were missing steps. Eventually, between the whole book, you got everything, but the step by step is okay.
What isn't worth it - "Designing your own bead jewelry" - as mentioned this is beginner stuff, "all the colors of the rainbow" just mentions the color wheel, not how to use it. The inspiration is just her sources. Some information in this chapter, but not much.
The other chapters - "Bead Stringing and knotting", "wire wrapping" and "sell your work" are expected and well done, if beginner.
Great pictures and a variety of examples, all from the author's art style. Having a couple examples of her students doing variations on her examples would have been nice. Good step-by-step instructions.
Overall a solid beginner beadwork jewelry-making book. A good place to learn the basic skills.
After getting the basic skills down, the next step would be learning about design and history, as well a bit more about how different beads act. This is a beginning, but not the end.
Good detail for beginner jewelry makers. The photos were good and the details of materials needed were good. I’m relatively new to jewelry making and I found this book very helpful.
The book for review is “Bead Jewelry Making For Beginners” by Cecilia Leibovitz. It falls in the category of jewelry and hobbies and crafts.
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at making earrings? Perhaps you wanted to make a necklace?
This book begins with the basics. Right from the start you get the kind of equipment you will be needing to do the projects inside the book. There is a description detailing what each one is used for. But it goes further into this hobby.
It details how to make looks, how to tie the knots and so forth.
Once you have read all of that you will find instructions to do a variety of different pieces. Each instruction will tell you the difficulty of the item and how long it should take to complete. There are pictures to show you step by step how to finish the items.
My thoughts:
I been making basic jewelry for a small while. I wish I had this book from the beginning. It gives you a good overview of a hobby that so many enjoy. The instructions were clear and had some nice jewelry projects to work on.
I do wish, however, the pictures had been a tad bigger. I am fortunate that some of the pictures I knew already what they were trying to say. If that had not been the case I might not have been able to get what they were trying to convey.
This book actually seems old fashioned with older styles as a learning guide. However, the techniques and information are very good and the tutorials are very well done. This is a great introduction to beginning jewlery making. I received this book from Calisto publishing for an honest review.
This book is very well organized and gives a great peek into the world of jewelry making and selling. Highly recommend to anyone considering this type of business.
This is a very basic beginners book. Content is less than other beginner books I've read. The pictures are also fuzzy and not crisp. If you find this for cheap or free then I recommend it, otherwise pass and get another beginners book that's better.
This book is detailed and helps learn techniques and or helps refresh your techniques. It is well written and the steps are clear. The images help to accomplish the techniques.
Very well written step by step techniques that are a must know. - must have in your repertoire of tricks. Written in such a clear way that it’s easy to understand and put into practice!
I really appreciate this author sharing her skills with beginners
I learned several new techniques from this book. I love how very clear and easy to understand the directions are. The color photos, and supply lists are also quite helpful! I definitely recommend this book!
I’ve never made jewelry before—usually it seems like so many different tools or things you need to know to even get started. This book was so helpful in breaking it down and giving great ideas for projects!
This book it not hard to follow. The pictures help me imagine myself making the projects and gave so much knowledge & inspiration! Definitely recommend.
