Of the two people Kit loves, one is behind bars and the other on a suicide mission. She needs to save them both.

Sharpshooter Kit never planned on joining the military, but her mom’s expensive medical care leaves her no choice but to sign up. Not that it matters. Her dream of a future with her childhood sweetheart is long over, and she’s on her own.

Until years later when she receives orders to save his life.

Green Beret Nate has Kit’s name tattooed across his skin and his soul. When he sees her face in a God-forsaken hellhole, he knows she’s walking into a trap, but damn if he can let her. Even if rescuing her destroys his best chance to avenge his murdered father.

When Nate is sent back to the US before he can carry out his self-ordered mission, Kit has no illusions. He isn’t planning on staying. Helping him return becomes her priority, though it means risking her career and her heart.

But love burns brighter than vengeance, and saying goodbye for good will be far harder this time around.

This book reminded me of a time when it was more enjoyable to start a reading and not have the constant fear of coming across the same story as usual (you know what it is, I believe). No, here is an example of a man who REALLY LOVES HIS WOMAN, despite the choices he made that drove him away. It's refreshing to read about really valid motives in which the couple separates. What dwarfed a star, however, was the fact that the heroine went on with other men (several other men to forget about him) this time around. On the one hand I liked it a lot because there is an endless list of books that I've read lately where the man does it. But at the same time the love he felt for her was so huge and beautiful that he deserved that she had waited. A great read and I will be waiting for the continuation! Crossing my fingers to be as good as it is!!

Loved the plot and loved the change of pace from this author’s previous books.

"We'd had plans...The world had been ours to discover together. Until he'd left."

Kathryn AKA Kit Samson was heartbroken when her childhood friend and love of her life disappeared out of said life on a mission of revenge. She spent years trying to erase memories of him but no one else every came close to replacing him. When she is suddenly face to face with him again, she fights tooth and nail to keep him at a distance, but those old feelings of love and loyalty catapult back to the surface and has her questioning whether to fight for him...for them...or to just let him go.

"I craved holding her like a soldier left stranded in a desert thought only of water."

Nate Wolfe had never planned to see his Kit again. He'd sacrificed a life with her for his quest to take down his father's murderer. He's so close to his goal that he can almost taste it, but something goes wrong and he finds himself back on US soil and under intense scrutiny. He also finds himself within kissing and holding proximity of the one woman who owns his heart. He's been so focused on his mission and had resigned himself to his fate, but to have her so close again makes him question his life and his quest.

"My biggest scar is the one I made when I left you. It tore me in half. And that will never heal."

I was enthralled by this story. It's completely different from what I've already read by this author but no less flawlessly executed. I enjoyed the explosive and visceral chemistry between Nate and Kit, as well as the element of suspense in the plot. Both were strong characters with strong convictions, as well as passionate hearts. A really fantastic read!

Filled with action, suspense and intrigue from start to finish, this was a rollercoaster of a romance.
This second chance romance was no ordinary read.
A smart, super tough heroine in Kit as she gave as good as she got. Reeling from six years of silence from the one man that ruined her for any other man, she’s assigned on an extraction mission that changed her life, again.
Their reunion was intense, passionate, and raw. No hearts and flowers with this couple.
Twists and turns, betrayal and love. This one had it all.
Just Fantastic!

Fight for Us is a great second chance military romance about sharpshooter Kit and Green Beret Nate who had been in a romance years before that ended when Nate joined the military. These characters are well developed, strong, and lovable. The storyline is excellent and has heartbreak, danger, desire, vengeance, and a second chance for love. There is also corruption, betrayal, secrets, and explosive surprises in this must-read military romance.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ++

Make no mistake. Jolie Vines is my favorite new author (to me) this year. It’s been a pleasure to watch her grow as a writer as she unearths these amazing stories from her soul. With her Marry the Scots series and the standalone, Race for You, I’ve found myself gorging on her storytelling. I was surprised when she released Fight for Us. It seemed against “brand” so to speak. However, given my love for her storytelling, I had no qualms in reading it. Sadly, I had hoped to read it before her release date, so my review would hit the day of her release. However, I had been encased in a mountain of ARCs with earlier deadlines. So…I finally found a day to read this book, and, from its beginning, she had me. Heart, mind, and soul, this book grabbed me and threw my emotions around like the military throwing around grenades.

Fight for Us is a romantic suspense. She tells us in her acknowledgements that it’s her first one. If that’s the case, then she should write more of them. I will say that there are a few moments where the “suspense” part of the storytelling lost some steam, specifically towards it’s falling action. There were a few moments that found me a bit befuddled, and I had to re-read sections to understand the motivations of the actions of some of the characters. However, the moment I began reading this story, I couldn’t put it down. I began it late in the evening, and I had a commitment the next day that detained me from continuing my read of it until later in the day. Throughout my commitment, the story sat in my soul, as I wanted, no I needed, to find out the resolution of Nate and Kathryn’s “Kit” story. When I finished my errand, I ran home quickly and threw myself back into their story, never leaving it until its conclusion. That is the pull of Fight for Us.

Vines’s romance is an epic tale of second chances, resurrection, and eternal true love. It’s a sweeping tale of two people who meet as children, fall apart as college students, and find each other in the end. It’s ultimately a story that reminds us that when all seems lost forever, there is always a way back to each other if love sits at the core of it all.

Nate and Kit have loved each other since they were kids. Promised to each other in their teens, life seems wonderful for them. Until it’s not. Nate’s father, who acts as a father figure to Kit too, is killed. Nate enters the military with the sole purpose to exact revenge on the terrorist who killed his father. In doing so, he leaves Kit behind without explanation. After six long years, he’s close to fulfilling his goal, except he’s caught and brought back to the states by the military. The military uses Kit to bring him in, and he begins to remember his love for her, a love that he had pushed down because he knows his goal of revenge will keep them from each other forever. Kit decides to help Nate with his plan, given that he is being held on a military base. As they journey to his end, they find themselves embroiled once again in their immense feelings for each other. Will Nate walk away from Kit again? Will Kit fight for their relationship? Can these two find a future together as they had planned when they were younger?

As I’ve mentioned in other reviews of Jolie Vines’s work, one of my favorite attributes of her storytelling is her craftsmanship of her heroes. In every book, her hero holds an undying love for the heroine. Whether he is a Scotsman, an Englishman, an Italian, or a military hero, a Vines hero adores, admires, and lives his entire life for the heroine. Nate is no different in Fight for Us. His entire being is devoted to two things: Kit and his revenge for his father. With these two goals, he’s torn. To love Kit requires him to potentially forget his revenge, except that Kit would also lose respect for him. He’s flawed, he’s torn, and there doesn’t seem like there is a solution to their quandary for much of Vine’s story. Sitting in that tension feels glorious. I love big feelings while reading romance, and Vines’s characterization of Nate grants that. She crafts him as this uber-masculine hero with a soft heart. In fact, my favorite part of him is his emotionality. He feels more than her heroine, Kit.

Now, Kit is the type of heroine you want to be. She is strength personified. Nate relies upon her to be stalwart, as his emotions sway his judgment. When he wants to forgo his plan of revenge, it’s Kit’s sense of justice that leads him forward. As a reader, that can be a hard pill to swallow as you want the happy ending for these two. Yet, serving justice seems like a bigger priority in this story. Even more, through Kit’s characterization, Vines allows us to consider the double-standard that complicates male-female interactions in the military (and life). Kit becomes annoyed with Nate when it appears that he doesn’t take her credentials and skills seriously. Through her inner dialogue, we’re reminded of the ways that men underestimate the ability for women to solve problems. While Kit isn’t the ultimate resolution to the problem of this story, she plays an important part in it. I think Kit’s consideration of this problem underscores the trouble with women and agency in problem-solving.

As her first romantic suspense, this reader found herself glued to the story. Vines inscribes so many twists and turns that it takes a bit to figure out her endgame. She hides it well for much of the book, but she reveals it incrementally, guiding you through to the end. As I said earlier in this review, it’s some of those turns that confused me. For a first romantic suspense, I thought she did it well, although it felt like it dropped off quickly towards the end when Nate and Kit’s reconciliation and profession of forever became the first order of business for the story. Obviously, we are used to Vines’s romance, so this is forgivable. However, I’d love for Vines to write more of this. Maybe we might see a story with Cody and Sawyer in the future? This reader can only hope.

I will state this loud and proud: this reader is a HUGE Jolie Vines fan. As Vines ventures into other tropes, it’s exciting to see how she maintains her voice. I think we know that her heroes will revere her heroines, and I find peace in knowing that I don’t have to worry about a cheating hero or one who blurs the lines of fidelity in her stories. I love when a writer knows who he or she is. There is an attribute of this book that seemed against “brand” for Vines: this is, by my estimation, her steamiest romance read. It was titillating and exciting and not very Vines-like. And I appreciate her break from her usual. It shows an author in growth, someone willing to try on new tropes and twists. In the end, if you’re a romantic suspense fan, then Fight for Us should be a read on your Kindle. I think, in the end, you’ll thank me for it.

Action from the start til the end. It's a full military romance.
Both MCs are in the military.
Both grew up in the military.

It's definitely no easy book. With all the military stuff and the things that happened in the past and now it makes it a little darkish.

I'm not sure who fell first, but I can say Nate fell the hardest. Just WOW. He is so sensitive, so emotional. Yes, he left Kit, but he never forgot her and he never stopped loving her for a single second. And it broke him.

I loved reading what happened in the past. Nate and Kit were just 9 and 10 years old when they met 🥰
They are both so wonderful. Even with all the things that happened. Kit never knew who her father was. She "lost" her mother when she still was a kid. No, she isn't dead, but she is also military and she, no I don't say it. It just wasn't and isn't easy for Kit. And it also wasn't easy for her when they got back to the military base her mother came from and she had never seen before. But as I said before, she met Nate and his cousin Cody. They got the best friends. Even though their mothers hated her for who she was 🤷‍♀️

It's 6 years since Nate left Kit. And when they met each other, it was special 🙈

This book is also full of twists. And with all these twists, it's difficult to say anything 🙈
If you love military romance, you will love this book. But be aware there is a lot of the bad military stuff in it!
And it all happens in just a few days 😱

No Scots. Not even the UK.
This book is a complete standalone. No references to any of Jolie's other books.

Definitely enjoyed this one!

Some background info to start: my husband is in the US Army, a middle ranking officer. As a military spouse, I sometimes have a hard time reading military romances, as the pain of separation and seeing our soldier hurt is very very REAL.
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It was so hard to read in some spots, but overall, an action packed story with fantastic unexpected twists.
I’ve now read every single story this author has published, and I definitely wouldn’t mind getting more stories on these characters!

5 CRANKY STARS

This is a stand-alone romantic suspense novel. It is what I call a true love story. Nate is 10 when he meets Katie and she is nine and they know right then and there, they are meant for each other. I haven’t read romance novels in years as I much prefer the new apocalyptic and fantasy genre. However, there are a couple of authors I have grown to love. Jolie Vines is one of them. Her stories have depth and show strong women willing to fight for what they want. They are in no way dependent on the men they choose.

In this case, Nate and Katie are both in the army and very good at what they do. Nate is in special forces and Katie in intelligence and IT. They have been together since childhood and even spent time living together in college. They are both army brats and when Nate’s father is executed in Afghanistan, their world falls apart. Nate can only focus on revenge for his father and joins the army to get the skills he needs.

After six long years, Nate’s time has come to get his revenge when he is confronted by Katie. Again, their worlds collide and everything they thought they knew about their past is questioned. From lies to true love, espionage and treason, families and memories aren’t always what you remember. It’s a fast paced, edge of your seat experience. Highly recommended.

Fight for Us by Jolie Vines is a contemporary, second chance, military, romantic suspense told in first person, dual POV.

Nate and Kit were military kids and childhood sweethearts. Neither had planned to join the military but everything changed when Nate lost his father. He enlisted right away and made it his life's mission to avenge his father's death, leaving Kit behind. After Nate left, Kit also chose to enlist.

After six years apart without any contact, Kit is sent on a mission to retrieve Nate and bring him back to the U.S. But Nate has not completed his self-imposed mission and he's determined to go back to finish the job - even if it means he could lose his life in the process. Kit sets out to help Nate even though doing so could end her career and break her heart all over again.

I loved Kit and Nate's story! They were both well-developed characters who balanced each other, and their chemistry together was so hot it sizzled. If I wasn't participating in NaNoWriMo this month, I may have read this in one sitting because I had to force myself to put it down and write. It was such a page-turner! The story is filled with action, family drama, old secrets, and many twists and turns along the way. It's steamy, exciting, and romantic. Highly recommended!

Will she be able to save him and if so then will they get a second chance

Fight For Us by Jolie Vines is the first book I have read by this author. I was not sure what to expect as you just never know if you will like a "new to you" author's writing style and story telling. But the book description looked interesting and as it was not part of a series I thought I would pick it up and see if I discovered a new writer to add to my must read list.

The author has successfully woven a number of different elements into the story-line, young love, mystery, suspense, betrayal, adventure, romance, second chances, family issues and the military. Both Nate and Kit have a lot that they go through but yet they find their way back to each other, even if it is in an interesting manner. The real question is will they be able to have that second chance as they may not be the same people they each remember and deeply love.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This book is about a soldier named Nate who has made it his mission to get revenge on the man who murdered his father. He has always loved Kathryn (Kit), but left her six years before on his quest to find the murderer (Araim). Meanwhile, Kit decided to enlist and became an army sharpshooter and then was given the mission to bring in a deserter who turns out to be Nate. When Nate is brought back, he wants to go AWOL and continue his search, but the army needs his special skills and goes after him again. He and Kit go on the run, with Kit deciding to help him escape the army MP's. But there are lots of secrets and betrayals, as well as corruption, some involving his father, some the army officers, and some the relatives in their families. It becomes exciting and dangerous, and full of shocking surprises. I highly recommend this book!

Stunning action-packed romance with unforgettable characters!

Nate and Kit are so, so perfect together, even though they haven't seen each other in six years. I absolutely loved these characters, and I was beyond impressed that the author took such a unique approach to their personalities. Nate is the empathetic, emotional one, yet still just as alpha caveman as a man could be. Kit is more closed off and resistant to facing her feelings, but that's the only way she could protect her heart after Nate left her to pursue his father's murderer.

From their intense reunion under fire to the dramatic unveiling of long-buried secrets to the completely surprising climax, this story is filled with twists and turns and oh-so-much sweet, steamy love as our two main characters find their way back to each other. The HEA is warm and cozy and so satisfying, and I sincerely hope we get Cody and Sawyer's story in a future book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Fight for Us is Jolie Vines first foray into suspense. Believe you me, she’s concocted one helluva read! A little suspense, sprinkled with cheating and lies; toss with a liberal amount of distrust, then bake under a hot sun for too many years. Remove from the terrorist stronghold and try to figure out how to move forward rather than live in the past.

It’s a masterful storyline, with amazing characters; plot twists and turns that you don’t expect; and at long last...the HEA we’ve all been waiting for! You definitely want to grab your copy today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.) ❤️❤️

I'm not sure where to even start with this. I'm a HUGE Jolie Vines fan. Everything she writes is absolutely perfect. This book though... This book slayed me. Kit and Nate were so heartbreaking but so beautiful. Their story was a roller coaster of emotions. Multiple times while reading this, I'd have to take a minute to remind myself it wasn't real. I became SO invested. I knew Jolie could write but this.... This was spectacular. Now that it's over and I've had a good cry, my heart beat slowing back down, I can truly appreciate the story of their love. Oh to be loved like that...

Read it. With tissues.

What a great story of two military people that are out to do their job but the mission changes for both of them when they see each other. Kit and Nate were childhood sweethearts so when Kit's mission is to save Nate's life while he is on his own mission of revenge turns things upside down for them both. However, with their paths crossing again and that passion starts stirring again, do they get a second chance at a HEA? This is a well written, fast moving story with lots of action, twists and sexy steaminess. I loved it. Enjoy!

Nate and Kit were destine to be together since they were young but tragedy rips them apart and now after years apart they are thrown together and this time it could be the end of Nate. This was a pretty addictive read where you weren't sure what would happen next and then when the twists start to come out you aren't sure who to trust, what really happened and if Nate will make it out alive. I really hope there are more books to come and this is he beginning of a series!!

This story was full of action, subterfuge, love, hatred, and so much more. Kit and Nate loved each other forever. This was their second chance at love but they had to navigate all the lies and misdirection all around them. I loved the strength of their love and bond, and kept rooting for it all to work out. Kit and Nate never lost that bond even through a second separation. I kept turning the pages to see how it all would work out. There were moments of tears, nail biting, and cheers. I recommend this story.

I received an ARC of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Fight For Us by Jolie Vines is the story of Nate and Kit.
Nate and Kit were young and in love. Then Nate joined the Military to avenge his father's death which lead him to leave Kit. Kit too later joined the military to help her family. So they have not seen each other in a long time. Then Kit is sent on a mission that is to help Kit bring them back together. But this a true adventure romance so nothing going down easy.
