The moment Katherine Marsh walks through the door of my precinct, dirt-covered and full of fear, instinctively I know she’ll be my downfall. Already my career is in jeopardy, and all I’ve ever wanted was to be a cop.
I’m fighting not only corruption in our judicial system, but my attraction to a witness. She tells me I only see things in black and white. When a murderer sets his sights on her, the line between right and wrong blurs, and I discover that maybe laws are meant to broken if it means protecting the woman I love.
LK Shaw is the bestselling author of sexy, sinful suspense. She resides in South Carolina with her high maintenance beagle mix dog, Miss P. An avid reader since childhood, she became hooked on historical romance novels in high school. She now reads, and loves, all romance sub-genres, with sci-fi romance and dark romance being her favorite. LK enjoys traveling and chocolate. Her books feature hot alpha heroes and the strong women they love.
LOVED IT!!! LK Shaw is quickly becoming a favorite to read. Stepping away from the BDSM theme, His to Protect focuses on a favorite character from her other books, Detective Daniel Webber. Daniel is still dealing with revelations of corruption in his office, when a beautiful, shaken, but very determined woman walks into the station seeking help, he can't say no, even if it goes against everything he believes in. Katherine Marsh witnesses the murder of her surrogate father, and she is hell bent on finding the killer. Daniel knows he has to protect Katie, but he doesn't feel he can trust his department, so he goes to the only other person that he can - Connor Black.
This is a novella, so it is a shorter book, but it is packed with action and sexual chemistry. Daniel is a worn-down cop who has lost his trust in the system. But Katie is just the person to give him his purpose and spark. I always loved the rivalry between Daniel and Connor, but seeing these two stubborn men working towards a common goal, was great. 5-stars and I can't wait for the next installment!
Blurb: The daughter of a drug addict always looking for her next fix, Katherine Marsh grew up learning how to fend for herself. Her only saving grace: neighbor, Emmett Jackson. Emmett’s house was Katie’s refuge when things got tough. He also became the father she never had. Until one fateful night when Katie witnesses his murder. She runs to the police, not realizing that someone knows what she saw.
Daniel Webber always dreamed of being a police officer. Graduating from the academy at the top of his class, he quickly moved up the ranks from beat cop to lead detective. He was well respected in the precinct until he made costly mistakes. His life is in a downward spiral and he’s days away from suspension when she walks through the door. Instinctively, he knows Katie will either be his downfall or his redemption.
What happens when a cop, whose career is on the line, falls for the key witness in a murder? Can he protect her before she becomes the killer’s next victim?
LK Shaw just keeps getting better and better. Each book has just drawn me into the world of this little "family". Daniel Webber is a cop, a good one but he has made mistakes and is close to losing his job. When Katherine walks in to report she has witnessed a murder, things heat up real quick. Someone higher up doesn't want the murder solved and Webber has to protect Katherine as they are both drawn into a web of lies. This is filled with intrigue and drama and of course, hot sex. Grab this latest book in LK's "Secrets" series.
I received a free advanced reader copy of this book and voluntarily decided to review it
I have not yet read the first three books, but this did not diminish my enjoyment of this book in any way shape or form. Katie meets Daniel after she witnesses a man getting murdered and she is not sure if the killer saw her
The chemistry between Katie and Daniel is electric, the story is full of high energy excitement and drama and it has romance and scorching sexy scenes
I really really enjoyed this story, I did not want to put it down. I highly recommend this book, LK has written a totally awesome book and I LOVED it
His to Protect is a romantic suspense novel without the BDSM elements the other books in this series have had to date. I will have to admit that this is not my favorite of the series. Mostly because of the insta-love bit at the beginning. I mean a victim walks into the cop shop and the detective ends up kissing her when they have just met and the woman is traumatized. The rest of the story was really great but I just couldn’t get past that. This book can be read as a stand-alone but has characters from previous books appear.
I was a little on the fence with this one. It got off to a bit of a slow start for me and had a different voice than what I've come to expect from LK Shaw. It read much more like a detective novel at the beginning than a romance, and I just wasn't really expecting that. But even though the voice seemed a little different, the story was still a super hot romance.
The romance was a lot of fun. My biggest problem was the meeting scene, I just couldn't picture it falling out that way. It happened super fast, but grief and shock can make people do unexpected things. Katie was great. I loved how head-strong she was, but she always seemed to stop plowing her way through things before she went too far. Her logical side didn't get buried and I loved it. Daniel seemed to be your typical cop hero. I wish I had seem something a little more different from him. There wasn't anything wrong, just not very unique.
The mystery/suspense was my favorite part! While Danile and Katie follow clues and pull in the crew we've come to love from the Secrets series. Following clues and kicking bad guy butt all along the way. A good addition to the series, and a nice way to give Daniel a piece of the spotlight.
Detective Daniel Webber's career has taken a few bad hits! His case a year ago ended with a prostitute being killed! So on the verge of being suspended he let another case slip through his hands cause of an attraction to a woman, then just a month prior he was involved in yet another case which involved so much corruption starting with cops, chief, all the way to the mayor's office. So to forget how messed up his job and life became he took to booze and women!
That all changed when Katherine Marsh walked into the precinct looking for help to get revenge on the man that murder the man that was like a father to her. Only problem is she didn't see his face! Now she is the one who is getting threatened!
Katherine is everything that Daniel has ever wanted in a woman but he knows the consequences of getting involved with someone he needs to protect!
Katherine has other ideas! She is a woman and doesn't need a man telling her how she should feel or why it is wrong to be together! Will Katherine have time to convince Daniel that love is worth the risk before it's too late?
When Detective Daniel Webber was introduced in Secrets of Submission, I thought he was a self serving jerk. Needless, to say I didn't like his character at that time but I found myself liking him in His to Protect. Although I am not a big believer in love at first , it works for Daniel Webber and Katherine Marsh’s story. Their story has the mystery, suspense and intrigue which can be found in the other books of the series. I could tell you about what happens in the book but why spoil it for you but will give a hint. He is a police detective and she sees the murder of her mentor in the alley behind La Scala restaurant. Want to know the rest of the story? But a copy of the book and enjoy the read. However, Dan and Katie are very much a “vanilla” couple so don't go into this book expecting the heat from BDSM that is an element of the rest of the series. This book is not my favorite read of the series but does a good job of tying into the other books.
I enjoyed this book, especially the suspense element. The beginning started a little rough for me because of how the hero/heroine first kiss, and it admittedly took me a few chapters to get over it before I really got into the story, but once I did, wow. I love how LK weaves a story, and keeps the reader on the edge from one chapter to the next. I also love how all of her characters find a way to make an appearance, and yet, the book can easily be read as a standalone. It takes a skilled author to craft a full story in under 30k words, and still allude to other character backgrounds.
I would definitely recommend this to those who love romantic suspense, quick reads (this one can be read in a night - which is perfect!), and enjoy sweeter romance plots.
A special thanks to the author for sending me an ARC for review <3
There is no BDSM in this book as in the others in the series, so do not look for that going in. It is a love at first sight book. That said, I really liked this book! The suspense had me wanting more, not wanting to put it down and adult. There really was not a slow spot in this book, which made it even harder when I needed to stop. (Yikes!) Daniel and Katie have chemistry between them from the moment they met and when they do get together they are explosive. Daniel doesn't think he is good enough for Katie, and she does want to prove him wrong. Head slap moment for Daniel! Together they need to figure out who killed her boss and father figure before something happens to Katie.
Weber, a cop near the end of his career comes across Katie, a witness to a brutal murder of the man she considered her father. At first meeting the sparks between them fly and though they both try to deny their feelings they find themselves growing attached to each other. But can Weber save Katie when the murder locates her or will he lose her forever. I loved this quick read addition to the series and was already in love with Weber from earlier books. The author does a wonderful job at making her characters believable but putting them into believable situations as well. This book can be read alone but to fully understand the characters and their relationships it is best to start with book one. However you chose to go you won't be disappointed.
Loved this story. It isn't as "naughty" as I usually like them....but the characters were well written, and the chemistry between the two of them is HOT!
Daniel is a super sexy detective. Katherine has seen a murder, and she runs to the police department for help. She runs into Daniel, and they immediately have a chemistry between the two of them.
Katherine gets Daniel to help her, even though with him doing this, it is breaking all the rules of the department.
This is a wonderfully written short story by LK Shaw, whom I have loved her BDSM stories, and figured I would give this one a try.
Again, different than my normal "genre" I pick up....but I was pleasantly surprised...a well written story can hold my attention as well.
Detective Webber is a cop who has had some misfortunes in his career. In walks Katie Marsh with another case that could lose him his job. It is lust at first sight with these two but trouble is brewing quickly with this case. There was lots of suspense to keep the reader guessing what would happen next. I also loved how feisty Katie is and doesn't hold back while tearing down those walls that Daniel has erected around his heart. Though this is a standalone book, one may want to read some of the others in the series to see and get a feel of the group dynamics that are happening in this book. Great addition to the Secrets family!
Police officer, Daniel Webber meets Katie Marsh when she comes to him about a murder she witnessed. She is invested in the solving of the case at any means necessary, since the murdered man was the man she considered her father. There are instant sparks between the two of them and Daniel vows to help and protect Katie. A fast paced book that is an easy read, His to Protect is a novella in the Secrets series. This can be read as a stand-alone book but we do see characters from the previous books as well. I loved the suspense and mystery aspect of this book which we didn’t see as much in the last books. Overall a definite thumbs up.
We first met Daniel Webber in Secrets Of Submission, and to be honest I really did not like him. There was something about him that gratted on my nerves. But after reading His To Protect I want to jump on the band wagon and cheer him on. I loved Webber and Katie's story. This book is a quick, sexy, suspenseful read. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I recommend this book and series. In order to understand who all the characters in this book are and where they came from, you will want to read the books in order starting with Secrets Of Submission.
Daniel is a detective who will steal your heart. If you have read LK Shaw before he will be familiar to you but if you haven't, no worries, you will still love him! Katherine came to Daniel for help and they connect immediately. This is a bit different from LK Shaws other books but by no means is that bad. I loved the way these two connected and enjoyed my glimpse of characters from her previous books. The action is fast and furious, and I enjoyed every minute of it! All I want to know is when do I get my next book fix?!
This story was explosive right out of the box. Katherine witnesses a murder and she's thrown almost immediately into the arms of a cop. Webber is not your average policeman, we already know from the previous stories that he's not the "do-it-by-the-book" kind of officer. In this instance it's probably the only thing these two have left to get out of this alive. This is a fast paced, in your face romance, that might not actually happen, but the story moves quick and you are eagerly awaiting what might happen by the end.
A novella in the world of The Secrets series. It features Daniel Webber, who also appeared in the previous books. I liked Webber a lot in the other books, so I was happy to read this book about him. It is a bit different then the other books, since it doesn’t have any BDSM. If does have instant love, hot sex and suspence. There is a lot of developement of the characters in this well written novella. Fans of LK Shaw won’t be disappointed.
Lots of intrigue and suspenseful adventure. Each character has their own set of secrets. The telling of this tale is very well done. Katie and Daniel each want to find a way to get the killer. The attraction they have for each other is strong. Together they will find a way. There are some very steamy scenes also. I really enjoy the way LK Shaw writes. Do yourself a favor and get this book! From a True Fan... Pam James.
You will continue to fall in love with Det. Webber. A nice addition to the series with this story of Det. Webber and Katherine's love affair and take down of a man that thinks he is above all. Join in the short adventure of murder, adventure, and love. Your heart will fall in love with Katherine and her sexy Detective.
This is more of a sweet read vs what I have usually read of LK Shaw. This book is to be read by 18 and older due to the sexual nature of the book. I really enjoyed this book because of the 2 other books that I have read of hers she had cameos and mentioned the other couples from the redemption series. I loved how fiercely protected Webber became of Katie.
Another amazing book by LK Shaw. If you haven't read any of her books I suggest you do. This is about Detective Daniel Webber and a witness to a murder Katherine Marsh. It is a fast paced book that contains action, police corruption, and strong sexual chemistry. If you're looking for a book or author that delivers this book and author does.
This is a different Secrets book as it has no BDSM elements. I enjoyed seeing Daniel get his HEA. I will say Katie annoyed me with her impulsiveness. I kinda wanted to slap her a couple of times. This story was sweet, but definitely had heat and the action this author is known for. All in all four stars for this installment of the Secrets series.
A great addition to the series! I enjoyed seeing our favorite characters from the previous books make an appearance again. Looking forward to more from this world. Daniel and Katie made the perfect match. Loved their chemistry and passion!
LK Shaw does it again. She writes such great stories with such believable characters and this book is no exception. The chemistry between Daniel and Katie is sizzling hot! You will not want to put this book down but I recommend reading it for yourself.
I give His To Protect 5 stars. I love the way the "bad boy " changes his life around once he tries to help a quiet, why female. I would recommend this book to my friends
I loved Daniel and Katie! Instant attraction to falling in love but you know there is always some drama! Katie pulled as far as she could to not be falling for Daniel but she couldn’t resist
Such a wonderful book. I really enjoyed reading it and would love to continue with the rest of the series. Thank you to Lk shaw for the ARC for my honest review. I can't wait to read the rest of the books
What a great, fast paced read! Daniel and Kate meet and it's Insta attraction that quickly turns to Insta love. Definitely a page turners that keeps you entertained and intrigued through the whole thing.
