The Thrones Murders

After the discovery of the first body at Shane’s Castle in Antrim, Northern Ireland, an old tired Detective Sergeant is assigned the job of finding the killer. Soon there is another body and obvious links are made to filming locations for the hugely popular Game of Thrones show. They are dubbed “The Thrones Murders.” Can the relic of a retiring cop work alongside the young guns he has no time for, and likewise have no time for him? Can he get past his personal grief and focus on catching the killer or has all that time learning and honing his trade been for nothing? As for the victims, were they just random people in the wrong place at the wrong time?

"Shit, there's creepy crawlies all over it. No, I'm sorry I can't."


This is not a murder mystery. The story shifts between the police investigator’s perspective and the killer’s. I was ever so slightly disappointed that there wasn’t a mystery to solve.

So, this is a straightforward read. People are dying in various grotesque ways. The police are trying to put a stop to them. Some of the story revolves around not-so-happy coincidences, but meh, just sit back and enjoy the read. Both sides of the story are surprising comedic, even when the killings lean towards disturbing. It’s a pleasant balance.

A very enjoyable read with a dark side. Although the story has a strong connection to the Game of Thrones program it is not a prerequisite to enjoying what is a fast flowing, if a little short, novel. Viewed from both the side of the police investigation and the murderers it zips along a quite a fast pace. Not a book to take to read over a long holiday on the beach, not because it's not a good read just you find yourself finishing it pretty quickly. Is that a bad thing however?

An entertaining read, the book flows along a a nice rate. As a fan of Game of Thrones the locations used added to the scene. Some brutal scenes lightened with a little blackish humor. The twist at the end did catch me out. I would have liked more locations but then that would mean more murders which I think would have made this easy reading book a little slower.
