Trewton Royd #3

Christmas for Commitmentphobes

Rate this book
At Christmas time, the last thing you need is more commitments.

Lara is so busy trying to get her fledgling software company off the ground that she’s up in Yorkshire, pitching for business, just before Christmas. When bad weather sees the trains cancelled, the only place she can find shelter is a small pub called the Trewton Arms.

Thilini (‘Tilly’) loves that her art helps feed her travel addiction. She’s back in England for Christmas after two years away and can’t wait to be on the move again.

When they meet their attraction is hard to deny. But what happens when the trains are running again and they have to go their separate ways?

Christmas for Commitmentphobes is a standalone novella in the Trewton Royd small town romance series. If you like closed door romances, with feisty heroines and realistic dialogue, you’ll love Christmas for Commitmentphobes. Ideal for fans of Lucy Parker or Jackie Lau.

Hi. I’m Rhoda. I write smart contemporary romantic comedy. In real life, I’m a former scientist who now works in intellectual property. The rest of the time I’m a sensible grown up Mum.

I prefer my heroes to be nice guys with a sense of humour and me heroines to be smart and independent. If you like Mhairi McFarlane or Sophie Kinsella, you'll probably like my books tool

I also write women's fiction, often featuring Sri Lankan characters, under the name Jeevani Charika.

A few of my novels have been shortlisted for prestigious awards. If you want to 'try before you buy', you can get a free novella by signing up to my newsletter via my website: www.rhodabaxter.com

🎀Cozy, sweet meet between two independent women needing warmth and affection🎇

Once again, a warmth-filled Rhoda Baxter romance set in Trewton Royd, a traditional, isolated Yorkshire village where the pub is the hub of holiday festivities. Characters keep getting marooned there over the holidays and finding a magical escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It's lovely: touching, short, with mild heat, easy to read and revisiting some of the characters like Tracey and Vinnie from previous Trewton Royd romances.

👥I really liked the way Baxter executed this story of FF affection; other than some discussion of heroine Lara's challenges getting respected and recognized as a professional in the tech world, this story focused on the emotional needs of Lara and Tilly and not their gender. Their first meeting is a bit of a mix-up/surprise and quite an🚿 icebreaker! Though the two seem so different in outlook and personality, their connection is undeniable and the prospect of their separation almost had me bring out the tissues. The secondary issue of coming to an understanding with their parents was a nice touch too. Altogether a truly enjoyable read with all the holiday trimmings😊.

It would have been nice to have an epilogue update a year or so down the road, but maybe the author has reserved that for inclusion in a future Trewton Royd romance?!

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book;this is my voluntary and honest review.

Laura is a second generation immigrate who is trying to make a way for herself with her new software program. Over holiday, she meets a new friend who taught her new things. While normally being misunderstood, Tilley understands Laura. Their relationship is a challenge and a joy. Listening to this book was also a challenge and a joy, there were many times where I lost interest.

Just like Snowed In (that you may want to read first, but it's not absolutely necessary), this new novella is a lovely Christmas romance mostly set in the pub/B and B run by Tracey's aunt and uncle. I was very happy to be back there, to see Tracey and Vinnie again and to meet Vinnie's sister Tilly (who was mentioned in Snowed In) as well as a 100% new character, Lara. The two women are very different but still have enough in common to understand each other, which makes them a cute and potentially lasting couple... if they can stop being "commitmentphobes". I quickly get attached to both of them and now hope they'll appear in more future stories set in Trewton Royd.

This was a lovely, sweet, closed door fledgling romance, set to a cosy backdrop of Trewton Royd, at Christmas.

Lara is only in Yorkshire as she had a client meeting, but when her trains are cancelled she ends up staying in the Trewton Arms. Due to a misunderstanding with the pub landlord, it leads to her first meeting with Tilly, which was rather amusing.

Well to me anyway, not necessarily to them. Tilly is only even in England to see her brother for the holidays, she tends to prefer flitting about working on her art, than anything longer term. Whereas Lara is committed to her job and doesn't have time for romance.

But yet there is a slow build (ok its a novella, it may seem fast, but it wasn't necessarily an instant attraction), connection between them both, as Tilly starts to get to know Lara.

I loved seeing Tilly, her brother Vinnie and Tracy his girlfriend, welcome Lara into their group, and seeing how she starts to soften as they put the finishing touches to the pub.

For a short book we see some character development which was good to see, and discover just why neither Lara nor Tilly are keen to see parents for Christmas.

I really believed these characters were real, and thoroughly enjoyed watching this festive story play out. I really can't say much more about anything for fear of spoiling it, but I will say it's Rhoda Baxter's writing at its best, very sharp and en-point and made me want to keep reading.

I would love to see these characters return in a longer story, and generally can't wait for my next visit to Trewton Royd, or at least I hope there will be another one.

Thank you to Rhoda Baxter for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Christmas for Commitmentphobes is a sweet, clean beginning of a romance between Lara (getting a new software company off the ground) and Tilly (a wandering artist). Set in the pub in Trewton Royd at Christmas, this book captured my interest immediately and held it until I reached the end. There is a lot of character development in this well written novella. I enjoyed this book.
