Davey's Rules #3.5

Rules for Growing

Rate this book
Davey’s Rule #95: Daddy knows that every date or outing deserves a kiss.

Note: This mmm short read is a Davey’s Rules Novella and should technically be numbered as book 3.5 due to its shorter length.

Landon Prescott and his sweet little, Mikey, have a solid relationship. Nothing is missing, they are happily in love, and life couldn’t be better. An accident while shopping brings MIkey into the emergency room at the hospital where Daddy Landon has privileges and MIkey finds himself fascinated by the same twitchy ER doc that has caught Landon’s eye once or twice.

Dr. Chris Kowalski is in his final year of residency and the future looks rosy… if he could just get a good night’s sleep and maybe be a little less clumsy. The problem? Aside from needing a better living situation, Chris needs time with his inner pup… time he hasn’t had in several years.

With a nudge from Davey and a couple other familiar faces, Chris finds himself at the club with the two men that he hasn’t been able to get off his mind. Will Mikey get the pup he begs his Daddy for? And if so, how will it work if they decide to bring a third into an already solid relationship?

This mmm romance is number four in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Please be aware that this is a bonus book to the series, a 24k short novella rather than a full-length novel.

I forgot how cheesy this was. :)

-------------------------------------------------

Now this was cute!

I wanted Landon and Mikey to have their own book when I met them in the first book. I was a bit disappointed it was only a novella and therefor their story felt a little rushed, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.

Daddy Landon and his little, Mikey have been together for quite some time and they’re still very happy together.

When their friend Davey takes Mikey to the mall on a shopping outing, Mikey is very excited. Davey was going to take his friend Michael shopping, but when he arrived at their place Landon asked if Davey minded that Michael was in little space that day and if he could take Mikey shopping. Of course Davey wants to be the best babysitter ever, so he promises to take good care of Mikey.

But even though Davey kept a close eye on Mikey, Mikey still gets into an accident when his foot gets stuck, resulting in him falling and getting his hair pulled into the escalator.

When they arrive at the hospital Daddy Landon is there to comfort Mikey, and a cute young doctor takes very good care of Mikey.

When Davey takes a closer look at the doctor he can just see his inner pup shining through. Davey is sure the young doctor is a submissive, so he offers Chris a card from Daddy’s Lap, telling him he should stop by.

When Mikey is finally stitched up he is ready to go home with Daddy. At home Landon can’t help but ask Mikey/Michael what he thought of their doctor. Michael answers that the doctor was hot! Mikey says that he has always wanted a puppy!

So when they all meet at Daddy’s Lap next weekend, they find Chris there too. Chris hasn’t been able to let his inner pup out for years, so Landon asks him if he is okay if Landon is his master for that evening.

After the wonderful evening together at the club, Landon and Mikey invite Chris over for lunch. And once they find out Chris is about to be homeless, they offer him the spare room….

I really loved cute little Mikey. Him petting Chris as a puppy was just adorable.

There was no angst in this or any kind of problem with the two becoming three and that was just fine with me. It might have felt a bit too rushed at times, but that’s what you get with shorts.

It was still awesome.

Another win from the amazing Susan Hawke and boy, do I enjoy it! I have loved this series from the very beginning and I really love Davey’s sass and wisdom in each and every book. Now onto reviewing this!

Mikey and Landon have a rock solid relationship. They have been partners for a long time and Daddy Landon loves taking care of little Mikey. They have discussed about brining in a third to their relationship but never followed through. That is until they met sweet Chris who’s in dire need of a good home and a loving master. With a loving daddy with a firm hand, cute, adorable little baby and a sweet, obedient pup .. there wouldn’t be a better combination than these three!

I’ll be honest .. I’m not big on ménage but I loved this book. It was sweet, sassy and just the right amount of sexy. And all men compliment each other and I didn’t feel like there’s imbalance among these three. I’m very happy that Chris found a loving home with not one but two loving masters and that Mikey got his Christmas wish of adopting a pup. I wish this was a full-length novel because they are too adorable. And as always, Michael Pauley did a great job narrating this story. Really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Rules for Growing by Susan Hawke is a MMM, Daddy/boy kink and puppy play , Contemporary novella about a caring Daddy in an exclusive, monogamous and loving relationship with his sweet boy are thinking about adding an adorable pup into their relationship.

It's tongue in cheek plot , snarky banter , hot AF sexy scenes , likeable characters and lighthearted tone and setting makes this 2 hours and 17 minutes story, entertaining and satisfying.

Michael Pauley narration was fantastic. He had distinctive , recognizable and perfectly matched voices for all the characters . Especially, his portrayal of sweet Mikey ; it was hilarious and über sweet. I fell in love with them all.

Even though I haven't read/ listened to the other 3 books in the Davey's Rules Series, yet; and I know I am missing a lot of the background stories, I don't feel it impacts on me enjoying Landon , Mikey and Cris story.

Received a copy of Rules for Growing through LesCourt and this is my impartial review.

I’ve loved the glimpses we’ve gotten of Landon and Mikey in the club so YAY they got their own story! These two are just as adorable as I knew they’d be and it’s wonderful to get to see them interacting at home.

Every scene with Davey in it is a great one and we’re treated to a nice, long prologue where Davey gets to ‘babysit’ Mikey. An accident sends the pair to the emergency room where they meet Chris, a sweet young doctor who’s ready to play… and I’m not saying any more than that!

The Davey’s Rules series is wonderful in audio and Michael Pauley continues with his marvelous performance, especially in his stellar portrayal of Davey. As Davey’s list continues to grow (he’s almost up to 100 now!) I can’t wait to see which couple finds love next.

I loved all the characters and how they worked together. It was too short so I wish we got a full story on them. Puppy play isn’t really my thing, but Chris fit in well with Landon and Mikey.

All 3 MC's were so loving and caring and opened their hearts and home to Chris and it was a heartwarming story.

I picked this up because it has a puppy play aspect (my crack) but ... it didn't deliver for me. Michael (rocket scientist) and his daddy are happy and they meet a doctor who is ... again, a nervous wreck, and they know right away he's a puppy just by looking at him. Hmmmm.

Chris was abused by his first boyfriend so is skittish to be a pup, but when he's kicked out by his roommate he moves in with Michael and Landon. I found it a bit off-putting that Mikey is a little almost all the time at home and "wants a puppy" like a two year old. "Can we keep him Daddy". Um, he's not a thing and while periodically Mikey would come out of his little persona to speak like an adult, I found it kind of strange. I guess whatever works for them but I can't imagine treating your adult partner like a baby, cutting food, giving a binky and then later giving him a handjob. Um. Ew? Anyway, I was hoping for more on the puppy play but again, there was nothing much happened. They moved in together, a month later said "wanna be a triad" had sex and lived HEA. I don't need tons of angst but it just seemed too easy and was all about the "kink will cure your anxiety" which is questionable advice at best.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is a novella so I don’t feel the characters got as deeply developed. Maybe it’s because I’m not into puppy play but this story just didn’t do much for me. I think it was done too quickly to take a relationship and change it so much. I have to say the one thing I really enjoyed is the reading of Davey’s Rules. I’m glad I got to listen to Michael Pauley narrate this or I’m afraid I would have liked it less.

Safe and Loved!

Couple Mikey and Daddy Landon are intrigued by Dr. Chris and invites him into their relationship. This is a sweet tale of letting go and providing a safe environment for Chris’s kink flag to fly but it’s missing the emotional connection to Mikey and Landon. Maybe this was a bit too short of a story to develop more of that connection. It felt like a fast-forwarded insta-relationship. Overall, an okay read.

Michael/Mikey and Daddy Landon are just so sweet. Every time we've seen them in any of the other books, I've just been so thrilled with them. Mikey just brings a little joy into my life when I read about him. And Chris/Tofer definitely needed some joy. I think that the three of them are perfect together. And Mikey is right when he says every little boy needs a pup.

A Daddy, his boy, and his puppy (an audio review)

Davey’s Rule #19 – Daddy should never count how many shoes his boy owns.

Chris Kowalski is an emergency room physician from South Carolina. He works with pediatric surgeon Dr. Landon Prescott but neither man has seen what the other is. Chris is a pup in need of a master. Landon is a Daddy with a little boy Mikey. Only Davey, a bartender at the club Daddy’s Lap sees the situation for what it is. He invites Chris to come to the club. Chris is reticent. His first master was a disaster and he’s hidden that part of himself away ever since, resigned to just being a doctor and a bit of a klutz at that.

At the club he finds his people. At first he sits with the adults and carries on a conversation but then Landon offers to do a simple scene with him. Chris is finally free to be himself. He plays with Mikey and feels a deep contentment he’s been missing for years. But Landon and Michal (an aerospace engineer) have a good life. Taking on a third, a puppy no less, would complicate things. Right?

For me, ménage stories only work if there is a true equality. When two of the parties are littles or pups, it can be dicey. I love that negotiations always take place when all the men are in their adult personas. But I also love that Mikey and Chris can trust their Daddy/Master enough to know they’ll be treasured. Be cossetted. Be loved. Isn’t that what we all really want? Could I be a puppy or a little? Doubt it, but there is something tempting about the idea of letting someone else take control for once. For letting go of all responsibility and being free.

I love the dynamics in this story and even though it was short, it was very satisfying. I’m also loving this series and although I want Davey to find his forever Daddy, I’m enjoying watching him play matchmaker. The next story is out and I’m waiting with bated breath for it to come out on audio because, truly, I think Michael Dean (formerly Michael Pauley) was destined to narrate this series. He’s perfection, especially when he’s in Mikey’s point of view. There’s a mishap while Davey is babysitting and Michael just nails little Mikey in distress. My heart might have clutched a little bit because it’s every adult’s nightmare for a child to be hurt on their watch. Everything worked out in the end. Anyway, great short addition to the series and can’t wait for the next one.

Davey’s Rule # 74 – Daddy must always be available for comfort when his boy needs him mostest.

Okay, lemme just say that I am NOT a fan of mmm, or multiples of any kind. Call me old fashioned or close-minded or whatever you want, but I’m just not into them. I might’ve given this one a skip, but because it was a novella, and I really adored Mikey already, I had to give it a try….

So, Landon is Mikey’s Daddy and he’s a pediatric surgeon and sometimes gets called away for surgeries, which is what happens on the day that Davey comes over to hang out and take Mikey shopping. Deciding he’s going to be the world’s best babysitter, he takes Mikey, who is in his little mode, because Mikey and Michael are different…. They go do their shopping while Daddy Landon is at work.

Now, if you’ve read any of the others in this series, you’ll know that when Davey says, hey, what could go wrong?.... something is about to go wrong… and boy did it. While riding the escalator, Mikey gets hurt pretty badly, which I didn’t really understand because escalators don’t go around eating people’s shoes or hair or ears lol but I overlooked it, he got hurt and had to go to the ER where his Daddy was just finishing up, but the doctor there was Chris.

Now, you cannot NOT love Chris. He’s a pup if anyone ever saw one, even when he’s not doing a scene or living in pup-land…. He’s got all the nervous energy and he’s fidgety and he’s just so stinkin cute, you can’t not want to curl up with him and give him all the love. Mikey and Landon agree.

Unfortunately, it’s been a long time since Chris was able to be his true pup self, a bad boyfriend and a traumatic experience made him wary, but he finds safety and love in Mikey and Landon. I thought the mmm aspect would bother me, cuz I’m a weirdo who doesn’t like it….. but it wasn’t awkward and nobody got jealous and it was all just very cute…. Especially Mikey with his puppy, Tofer.
He was the perfect addition to their family <3

I wouldn’t have minded a full lengther on this one, but still, so very cute! I really hope Jeff is next!
5 stars from me on this one!

* Witten by Susan Hawke - another favourite author of mine
* Sass
* Daddy/boy relationship
* Characters you fall in love with
* Addictive and hard to put down

This book is a short novella, but just as great as the other books in the series.

It starts, like all the other books with it being from Davey’s POV.

Landon is a Doctor and is in a successful relationship with Mikey. They are totally in love and life is humming along awesome for them.

In the first three books, Landon and Mikey feature regularly. This book tells us their story, how they got together etc.

On an outing with Davey, Mikey gets hurt and ends up at the hospital. This is where he gets to meet, nervous twitchy ER Dr, Dr Chris Kowalski.

Chris has caught Landon’s eye a time or two before but he has never mentioned him to Mikey, so he takes the time to watch Mikey’s reaction to Dr Chris and it seems Mikey has the same thoughts as himself.

Chris is encouraged to go to Daddy’s Lap by Davey and a few of his friends. Here he gets to spend time with Landon and Mikey and explore a side of himself that he has hidden for a really long time.

Bringing a third into a rock-solid relationship is something that requires lots of honest and open communication and this is where Landon, Mikey and Chris excel.

I never really thought that I would like a story about polyamory relationships, but it just worked in this book and made a whole lot of sense.

This series is really addictive series. This is about the third time I have read it and I highly recommend it.

Once again, Michael Dean’s narration of this book was amazing.

Daddy Landon & little Mikey, take in a pup!🐕

This was such a sweet novie. The Story gives a deeper view of the dynamic between Landon and Michael. It shows the deep level of love and commitment the two have for each other, and how even D/s knows no bounds when both partners are consenting.

After meeting a young doctor the couple decides to explore and take in, Chris, who has been forced from his home. He settles into the role he has always craved, but in the past was criticized and humiliated for.

Changing his name while in his puppy-space to Topher makes him feel even more wanted by this wonderful Daddy and his boy. Sharing in outings and learning the couple care for him, help him become the man and pup he always desired. He just needed safety...and TLC.💖

As always Susan Hawke took a topic that is taboo to many and turned it into a thing of beauty and love. Acceptance and unconditional love are amazing things, aren't they?

You can enjoy this lil menage novie on its own or as part of the Davey's Rules series. There are times, places, and scenes that run parallel to, "Rules to Break: DR book#2." No matter how you choose to read/ listen to this, you won't be disappointed. The audible version is especially decadent with the deep syrupy sweet voice of Michael Pauley as narrator. **pardon my drool...😋😂

The Story: 4🌟
The Narration: 5🌟

This series is one of my favorites by Susan Hawke, it's just so much fun and angsty and hot and I live for those Davey moments. This novella was the perfect addition to it, short and sweet, with just a tiny dose of angst to temper it down a bit.

I suggest reading or better yet, listening to the first 3 books of the series before delving into this one. We get glimpses of Mikey and Landon in them and of course, you need to meet Davey and bask in his awesomeness. LOL

I'm not particularly fond of books where an established couple adds a third to their relationship, but in this case, it works. Mikey is the little, Landon is the Daddy and Chris becomes their puppy and is the perfect addition to their dynamics. They have tons of chemistry and it was great to see how balanced their relationship was and how each of them got something from the others that they didn't realize (or didn't think they'd ever get, in Chris's case) they were missing before.

Michael Pauley did a fantastic job bringing to life these characters, from Mikey's cuteness to Chris's exuberance as a puppy and his awkwardness when we first met him to Landon being the Daddy that they both needed and of course, I really don't think anyone else could perform Davey in such a masterful way.

Definitely recommendable!

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

Adorably awesome but not long enough!!

So much is packed into this tasty little number!

We get some cheeky insight into Mickey/Michael and Landon’s relationship in and out of the bedroom as well as meeting an adorable, somewhat suppressed pup, Chris or later know as Topher. These three are so sweet together and I’m so glad we got to see more of Landon and Mikey! I especially loved the sass and boldness of Michael we got to see 😉 I’ll admit I was surprised LOL.

This is a beautiful, yet short, read/listen and will endear you further to these three characters. I felt that there was so much more to these three and especially Chris’s past that could be expanded on (perhaps another novella again later, please Susi, we’re desperate!) Either way its a beautiful read and of course we were able to get our Davey fix in, before the next book!

I love this series and this is an adorable addition!!

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I rated this book 3.5 star but I’ve round it up to 4 stars since you can’t do half stars. I enjoyed this book but I wish it was longer as novellas move quickly so everything is at warp speed so it was very insta-love and it usually takes times to form emotional connections. I’m glad that Landon and Mikey gave Chris a safe, secure and loving space that he could let go and allow Landon to take care of his needs. I also enjoyed seeing the dynamic between the three when they’re just Landon, Michael and Chris, instead of D*ddy/Master Landon, Mikey and Topher. It was heartbreaking hearing of Chris’s traumatic past with his first boyfriend punishing him by keeping him in his hood for long periods of time until he finally allowed Chris to stop wearing it. What a complete a*sehole so I’m glad he’s found his forever home. I’m looking forward to reading Marcus and Jeff’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

Landon and Mikey have a picture perfect Daddy/little relationship, but when Mikey has to go the emergency room where Landon works, he meets Chris, a nervous and twitchy ER doc giving off some serious puppy vibes. Landon and Mikey decide to invite Chris to spend time with them, and see where things go.

Loves & Likes:
⦁ Sweet and fluffy, with little to no drama

Peeves:
⦁ Too short - there was no real relationship building or personal development of any of the characters. Landon and Mikey basically decide to adopt Chris and see if goes anywhere, and then it glosses over actually developing that relationship.

I so enjoyed that we get to see Landon and Mikey inter into a new relationship. I adore that they are a long-established couple that are deeply satisfied with their relationship. Meeting Chris brings them a new element to consider and I was impressed that they openly communicate about all the elements of each step long before taking any. Chris obviously needs to find his place and is just as surprised to find how perfectly they all fit together as Mikey and Landon are. As much as I've enjoyed getting to know Mickey, learning about Michael was enlightening. I loved that Landon fills the role of Master and Daddy, allowing Mikey and 'Tofur' to be their alternative selves while home.
Highly recommended author and series

This one surprised me in how much I enjoyed it, as littles and puppy play isn't really my thing, but then a lot of types of kink in fiction isn't remotely my thing. Interesting characters, settings and situations can make one's personal interests in the real world not as important. I liked the characters in this, found them interesting, intriguing, and sympathetic. I was impressed with the level of acceptance they found together and with their friends and loved ones. There were some seriously hot moments too, some relevant to the characters' type of kink, some just the intimacy between the characters. The story doesn't totally revolve around play and kink, but focuses on how the characters balance their lives and find solace with each other.
The audio was good as well.

Man I love this series. When I saw this one I stopped in the middle of reading another book to read it. Very few authors can get me to do that so that tells you something. What I enjoy the most about this series is that while we get a great story of a new relationship or addition to one we still get Davey. I have so many thoughts on who will be perfect for him. Personally I think we have already met him and that Davey really needs to think on who he really his. Is he a boy or does he need one? Maybe he needs a boy and a Daddy. Only time and more stories will tell which way Susan Hawke will take this. Gosh I can’t wait!!!
