Lords of Scandal #2

Marquess of Malice

Rate this book
He's known as the Marquess of Malice...can one little lady warm his dark heart?

Malice, as his friends and fellow gaming hell owners call him, doesn't have room in his life for love. He'll take a quiet bride, make an heir, and ship her off to the country. He's picked the perfect little mouse for the job. The problem? When Malice asks her to marry him, Lady Cordelia refuses. Has she no sense? Any debutante would be happy to catch a marquess. But then again, he's broken inside. Perhaps Cordelia is the most sensible woman of them all...

Lady Cordelia Chase has no intention of marrying the oafish, overbearing marquess. Lord Malicorn is rude, surly, and entirely unsuitable. Never mind that he's the only man to ask. Quiet and shy, she's been overlooked most of her life. When she marries, it will be for love and not just as a breeding cow. The only problem is that when Lord Malicorn isn't talking, well, he's rather strong and terribly handsome. And when he holds her in his arms, she could almost swear her heart skips a beat. If this isn't love...what the devil is it?

They couldn’t be more different, except they both needed and wanted to be special to just one person. Surprisingly, what Marquess of Malicorn thought he wanted in a woman, Lady Cordelia Chase seemed to possess. Then she showed him a side to her that was exactly what he truly needed.

Regency romance with all of the atmosphere of the era, a bit of humor and a little suspense are wrapped neatly in a quick little read by Tammy Andresen. THE MARQUESS OF MALICE brings another happy ending to life, as well as a bright beginning for two people who found love.

I do enjoy Ms. Andresen’s style! Short, sweet, sassy and never disappointing! This quick trip into the past will leave readers smiling.

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen! This is my honest and voluntary review.

💋💋

Chad and Cordelia are so perfect together , I really loved their story.

This series took off with a blast and is still going strong , so much more to come too, one of the most enjoyable regency experiences around at the moment.

These two have such a great relationship, a brilliant exchange in their conversations, switching from amusing banter to almost insulting humour every other page .
Great reading .

The rest of the Lords Of Scandal are brilliant too , they all play off one another so well .
I can’t wait for more, dying to see if the pairings work out and if their leading adversary has more daring exploits in her.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Marquess of Malice is the second book in Tammy Andresen’s Lords of Scandal series, and it’s a great addition to the series. Although this can be read as a standalone romance, I do recommend reading book one and the prequel to get the best understanding of the story. There are certain elements of this one that continue what we were previously introduced to, and it will have you enjoying the development of the overall story arc more.

Whether you’re reading this as a standalone or as part of the series, Marquess of Malice is a quick read filled with plenty of drama to keep you turning the pages. Tammy Andresen sucks you right into the story, and you quickly fall in love with the characters. Although I saw some of the things coming, this was not enough to take away from the book. Every chapter packed a punch, and I was more than happy to devour it in a single sitting.

All in all, Marquess of Malice is well worth the read if you’re a fan of historical romance.

ALL the SWOON

I adore a romance with a shy heroine and a tortured hero and this one delivered!

When malice first meets Cordelia he’s drawn to her but he refuses to admit his feelings are involved. He tries to convince himself that she will be a suitable wife, one who can give him an heir and he can deposit into the country. Little does he realize that his shy, suitable, quiet woman is going to turn his soul upside down and all his neat, tidy plans of emotional detachment are going to be destroyed.

Hero’s past is briefly mentioned, but not excessively. Heroine is innocent and completely belongs to the hero. No cheating or abuse of any kind. No ow demand, but another man also pursues heroine, which brings out all the possessive, jealous, protective feelings in the hero. This book is part of a series so unfortunately no epilogue but an HEA.

Must read prequel to avoid confusion about secondary characters, subplots

Doesn't work well as stand-alone. Editing errors, scanty background info leaves reader at sea.
At first, heroine Cordelia has two sisters (Emily, Grace) & two cousins (Minnie, Diana). A few pages later, Diana is a now another sister & Ada is now second cousin. Chad, the Marquess of Malicorn aka Malice, is the hero. Of course he has five friends, each with title and alias, to equal the number of ladies.
Add a villianess with a grudge against two (?) of the men, but no rational revenge scheme... Voila!?
While one can easily follow the protagonists romance, the rest is muddy - even if you've read the Lords of Scandal prequel.
The series premise lead me to read the first two books. I won't be reading any others.

An enjoyable and entertaining Regency romance, this novel does not disappoint the reader. When Lord Milicorn, nicknamed Malice, presents his proposal to Lady Cordelia in a most insulting fashion, he's surprised when she rejects him. Suddenly the mousey bluestocking shows her true colours and much to his surprise he admires her. The more they cross paths, the more intrigued Malice becomes as Cordelia stands for what she believes in. Having been caught in the trap set by the Countess of Abernath, Malice comes to realise just how important Cordelia has become to him and fears that he may be too late to tell her in person. This novel is well written, a bit suspenseful and delightfully romantic as Cordelia tames her beast and brings out his true nature. One does need to read previous books in this series as the plot depends on the foregoing events, but it is nevertheless a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Great

I found this a really good book. Cordelia is a great character. She turns down the Marquess of Malice when he asks for her hand in marriage. He then has to prove his worth throughout the book to win her.

Marquess of Malice: Regency Romance (Lords of Scandal Book 2)

Lord Chadwick Henessey, Marquess of Malicorn known to his friends as Malice is happy running his gaming hell the Den of Sins with his friends. Until the night six ladies invade the club and are now privy to their secret. The owners can’t have their secret ownership get out to the public but the six ladies are now compromised for having been inside the Den. Now each Lord has promised to protect and make sure that none of the women let their secret out.

Malice has chosen Miss Cordelia Chase to protect and being who he is has also decided to ask her to marry him. He will do his Lordly job of getting her with child then he will ship her off to a country estate. The problem with Malice’s plan is Cordelia might not agree.

Cordelia Chase is pretty, petite and wears glasses, she also knows what she wants and what Cordelia wants in a match isn’t what Malice is looking for.
When Malice ends up in the garden with Miss Cordelia Chase he looks upon that as an opportunity to find out more about her. Malice asks her some very vague questions, to which she gives some very vague responses but he finds her to be in his words “the safe and predictable choice.” So, he asks her then and there to marry him and she turns him down! Just like that!

Hence setting the stage for the chase to begin. Lord Chadwick Henessey, Marquess of Malicorn versus Miss Cordelia Chase!

Throughout the chase or as Malice would have it courting period, we learn much about both our Hero and Heroine. Malice was brought up mostly by nannies, his father really could have cared less for him because in his father’s eyes Malice was the reason he lost his true love. That true love being Malice’s mother, who died after giving birth to Malice. Taking that into consideration we the reader can see where he is lacking in the ability to love or have knowledge of a loving relationship. Which is why when Malice starts to have feelings toward Cordelia he isn’t quite sure what exactly is happening.

The Chase sisters/cousins on the other hand not only know how they need to behave to get along in society but what they want in a husband. Oh these Lord are really going to have to work for the hands of these lovely ladies.

Between keeping and eye on the Chase Ladies and realizing the one enemy they know for sure can damage their reputations and their Club from harming the ladies and the Club our Lords are in for quite an adventure. This new series Lords of Scandal brings together 12 main characters, some not so reputable members of society, one really nasty individual and the opportunity for some very happily ever afters! I’m having a lovely time getting to know each couple. Tammy Andresen has invited us into quite the Den of Sins and I for one am looking forward to watching what is coming up next!

This was a very quick read. I did not read the first book or the "prequel" before reading this book.

I am hit or miss with this author's books.

This could have been so much more:
I also thought the premise was a bit flimsy - they have to "watch" the ladies so they don't give up their secret? A secret that would ruin them more.

Cordelia is seen as mousy but has a spine and will stand up for herself. I just wish she'd questioned McKenzie more directly - as she did with Malice. That would have made her seem less wishy-washy.

The whole plot with Abernathie didn't really make any sense (if you read the prequel it makes even less sense; in this story she linked only to the Duke but in the prequel - which I read later - she's linked to the Duke and Jack. Jack is briefly mentioned in this story).

Although it felt a little rushed, I liked Malice's transformation. I did wish some of the banter they had in their first meeting had continued a bit longer. When you could concentrate on their story and their interactions, it was a good read.

There also were annoying continuity errors. For example, Diana is Cordelia's cousin in the first few pages. Then later she's her sister. If the author can't keep people straight, how can the reader? And the confusion gets worse with so many side characters (because they will have their own stories). Frankly, when you get beyond 3 couples they all start to blur together.

I can appreciate a gimmick of giving the heroes all quirky nicknames but they should sort of match their personalities or something. From what I saw of "Daring" he was anything but. "Malice" didn't really fit his nickname either. It's also a little too neat when there are 5 ladies and there just happen to be 5 men (could forgive this in a way if I hadn't read another series by her with the exact same thing -Romancing the Rake series).

So I didn't love this story. I just liked it. I might read the next one but I might try something else by this author.

A joy of sweet romance, discovery & deep connection!

Chad, scarred so deeply and completely as a child, attempts to eradicate any feelings by shunning the unattainable: love.
Corde, feels invisible next to her lively beautiful sisters and wants someone to finally see her, really see her. So, when emotionally scarred Chad can only offer her a lonely cold marriage of convenience this cuts deep and rejection is the only option. Or.... is it?
This tale was sweetly tender, raw and deeply touching while peppered with a romantic warmth and undercurrent of heated desire. It made me stop to feel, question, understand and want to fight against the insecurities that festered within the pair that made them feel so vulnerable and unworthy. With the overshadowing of malicious scheming lingering, ever present in the background, with its sharp bite of desperation and malice ( and I don't mean from our emotionally insecure hero of the same moniker) to counter balance their evolving romantic encounters this pairing, from the very first, sparked the most intrigue and eager anticipation in me. They really held me glued with their sharp wit and tender unfurling. For me, it delivered so much more than the quietly captivated promise and shimmering pang of connection their first meeting, in the prelude, enlightened. It had such warmth, discovery and absorbing fluidity it kept me hooked!
Overall my favourite so far in a series that wholeheartedly brings much joy and heart. As each hero, so assured and nonchalant in their desire not to marry and need love, eat their boasts so wonderfully, as they find themselves falling so irredeemably into the arms of the bold, daring and honest Chase ladies. I was so delighted to witness every shock and twist these profoundly underestimated ladies subtly delivered. I can't wait for the fun and games to continue - onto book 3!!

Marquess of Malice is the second book in the Lords of Scandal series. This series is based on six noblemen who have opened the Den of Sin, a gaming hell but have tried to keep their identity secret. When one of them becomes engaged to one of the Chase females and the women descend into their Den, they decide they need to make sure the women don’t talk. They each pick one of the women, determined to stick close to them and ensure that they don’t disclose their identity. When Lady Abernath threatens the women in order to have revenge against one of the gentlemen, the men’s protectiveness kicks in.
Chad Hennessey, the Marquess of Malicorn, known as Malice to his friends doesn’t want a marriage with emotions. He wants a wife that will be biddable, will give him his heir, and then stay in the country. He thought he had found the perfect woman for his wife in Lady Cordelia. Corde declines his offer of marriage when he says that she would be “suitable.” Chad then realizes that Corde might be quiet and shy but has a backbone of steel and is stubborn.
Lady Cordelia “Corde” Chase has always been the girl in the family who fades into the background. She was the quiet one but had always dreamed of finding a man who saw her for herself. She wanted a man to propose because he loved her not because he found her “suitable.” Can Corde change Chad’s mind of what the perfect wife would be?
This has been such an exciting series. The Chase women are sassy, independent, and stubborn. They are certainly keeping the gentlemen busy trying to keep up. I can’t wait to read the next book which will be Exile’s.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Marquess of Malice, Book 2 of the Lords of Scandal series, was about Lord Chadwick "Chad" Hennessey "Malice", Marquess of Malicorn, and Lady Cordelia "Corde" Chase.
Malice was one of six owners of the gaming hell called the Den of Sins. He and his friends were identified by Cordelia, her sister, and her cousins. In order to ensure their silence about who they were, each of the men gathered information from one of the ladies. Some of the men had even married them. Malice was determined he would be one amongst the married men.
Cordelia had always felt like she was invisible to everyone, especially to her family. She considered her two sisters to be everything she wasn't: beautiful, skilled in many areas, sociable, well-liked. All the suitors that ever showed up at her home or events she attended were there to see her sisters and cousins...not her. But then Chad proposed after two meetings. Should she accept?
The drama, angst, and intrigue were off the charts in this book. While there was subtle chemistry between Chad and Cordelia, it simmered below the surface. Both had a past full of hurt and pain to overcome. Everything they had endured growing up stood between them. Would it keep them apart forever?
Although there were times the story moved along at a snail's pace, it was well thought out and flowed well. It had all the elements a novel should have: a hero and heroine, a villain, a plan of deception, pain, and chaos. It even had a HEA. The only true issue I had with the story was that it, like its predecessor, ended in a cliffhanger. I hate cliffhangers! The only saving grace was that the next book was already available to read.
While this was a good book, it did tend to meander and was filled the "fluff" writing. This book will get a 4-star rating, but it still wasn't good enough to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.

Marquess of Malicorn, or referred to most recently as the Lord of Malice was in want of a bride. After all, he had to do his duty and get himself an heir whereby, he could then ship her off to the country.

Malice doesn’t have room in his life for love, so a quiet biddable, little mouse whom no one really notices would serve him well. And so, he approaches the Lady Cornelia and abruptly asks for her hand in marriage. However, this little mouse has no qualms in not only refusing him but letting him know in uncertain terms!

What? He thought any debutante would be lucky to catch a Marquess! But what would Cordelia find about him that she would flatly refuse? However, Cordelia had no intention of marrying the rude, surly, oafish man, who wanted her only as a broodmare!

Cordelia wanted love! However, when Lord Malicorn wasn’t talking, he was rather handsome, and when he holds her in his arms she has a tendency to melt. What’s a girl to do?

All the characters in this book were a total delight. I loved the interplay between Malice and Cordelia, especially when Malice was discovering why he was having a hard time concentrating on anything else but the little sprite who refused his proposal. Although, when he commiserated with his friends over the exact wordage and how he proposed, they made him realize what a clueless ass he had been.

This was a wonderful read and the scenario of a rejected lover trying to expose the owners of a gambling den own up to being involved with gambling, while portraying themselves as leading members of the ton was a nicely fashioned story-line.

Malice, as his friends and fellow gaming hell owners call him, doesn’t have room in his life for love. He’ll take a quiet bride, make an heir, and ship her off to the country. He’s picked the perfect little mouse for the job. The problem? When Malice asks her to marry him, Lady Cordelia Chase refuses.
Corde has no intention of marrying the oafish, overbearing marquis. Lord Malicorn is rude, surly, and entirely unsuitable. Never mind that he’s the only man to ask. Quiet and shy, she’s been overlooked most of her life. When she marries, it will be for love and not just as a breeding cow. The only problem is that when Lord Malicorn isn’t talking, well, he’s rather strong and terribly handsome.
Chad & his friends have made a pact the each one of them will guard one of the Chase girls so that they aren’t coerced into revealing that a group of lords own a gaming den. Chad has been attracted to Corde from their first meeting but his brute of a father beat all affection from him & Chad thinks he can’t love. Corde isn't the mouse everyone thinks she is, she may wear glasses & stay in the background but she’s no shrinking violet. I loved how the pair locked horns & how Chad rapidly fell in love & knocked all of his previous assumptions on their heads. The road to their HEA isn’t smooth with villains out to ruin their burgeoning romance but it’s highly entertaining. A lovely story with strong characters & that flows effortlessly
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Just when he thought he had found the perfect lady to wed... One that was quiet and affable.. one he could wed, create a heir and never fall in love with... Keep his emotional distance..Lady Cordelia did not seem thrilled at the suggestion. In fact as he made the suggestion and told her all the points she had that made her suitable..
"Please Lord Malicorn. That's enough." She held up her hand. "Much as I appreciate a suitable match. I simply must decline." Of course he could not believe it!
Cordelia was so upset. It seemed everyone noticed her beautiful sisters, but never her. She did not want to be just a suitable convenience.
But Malicorn had his own hurts from childhood and he was trying to tone down some of his rougher edges.
These two were wonderful together and I could not wait to find out what would happen!! Filled with some angst, humor, a little suspense and a chemistry that in the end could not be denied!! A wonderful addition to this series and it left me only wanting more!!

Another enjoyable book written by Tammy Andersen. When the quiet, shy Lady Cordelia Chase turns down an insulting proposal from Lord Malicorn, or Malice as the other owners of their gaming hell club call him, he is surprised. Malice thought she’d be the perfect lady to marry, have an heir and then ship off to the country and not ever have care for her.
Lady Cordelia can’t believe Lord Malicorn thinks she’d marry him after such a hurtful proposal. After spending some time with him tho, she comes to realize he’s been as overlooked and hurt in his life as she has and maybe they have more in common then she thought.
If you like a little suspense and romance, you’ll love enjoy this book. This is a well written story. The second book in a series that can be read alone. I suggest reading the whole series tho to get to know the other characters. I received this book as a gift and this is my voluntary review.

A great addition to the series, this one brings us Chad and Cordelia, and Cordelia has always been in the shadows of her beautiful sisters, believing them to be more beautiful as she wears spectacles. Malice (Chad) has been the one assigned to watch over her to make sure she doesn’t tell on their ownership of the gaming hell. But Malice has difficulty getting through his past.

I really enjoyed this couple, and was rooting for them the whole way. I liked this one as much as the first book in the series, but it felt a bit rushed in places. The twist near the end is a bit confusing because of the book before, but I won’t give away any spoilers. This series is very easy to follow along with and I think the author has a great cast of characters to choose from. It was fun to watch Chad fall in love with Cordelia despite himself thinking he could never love anyone, and the epilogue was a nice wrap up.

I am loving this series & we're only 2 books in to it. The books can be read as standalones but I personally feel it is so much fun to get to no everyone as they come in to their own story & past characters show up - either way you will love them.

Chadwick Hennessey, Marquess of Malicorn aka Lord Malice & Lady Cordelia Chase are the perfect couple - they just don't let themselves believe it. The slow burn between there two is such a fun & romantic time & the secondary characters are so enjoyable.

Tammy Andresen has written a great series surrounding the six The Lords of Scandal & I just can't wait to read more. The humor among the lords is such fun & they play so well together!

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

The following are my thoughts as I read this book. Chadwick Hennessey…Marquess of Malicorn, aka Malice, decides he needs a biddable wife. Cordelia Chase…a younger Chase sister, quiet but social, has quick wit. Oh the H may have just underestimated the h. Now the H is out of his element and he does not like it at all. There seems to be some competition for the attention of the h. Of course the h is looking for the typical knight in shining armor. Ahhh childhood trauma explains so much. The h has a secret passion and the H mistakenly assumes he is the muse. Oh my the competition is not competition at all but more of a dangerous threat. The plot thickens and more secrets are revealed. The ending eluded to another story needing to be told. This was definitely a light enemies to lovers story. The H and the h each had a shared individual feeling but did not know it. There is mild steam.

I am not a writer and never could be. With that being said, I don’t write great reviews. If I liked or loved a book; I would just say “Love this book. "Get it” or something along those lines. I am trying to be better about my reviews because I noticed some authors do actually see them.

Having read over 370 books last year and hundreds and hundreds of authors over many years, there is only a handful that I truthfully can say are my favorites and I have actually read all their books. Tammy Andresen is in that group.

She never disappoints. I can truthfully say I love all of her books. The books are quick reads and finish them in 1/2 day but I still look forward to all her new releases which I have noted on my calendar. Can't wait for Earl of Exile.

Fabulous! Marquess of Malice by Tammy Andresen is book 2 in the Lords of Scandal series. There is nothing better than a group of regency gentleman that have a bit of a bad boy in them and owning a gambling hell is one them. Though in a series this book can be read as stand alone. I always enjoy reading Tammy’s stories as I find them a true delight and wonderful characters and the Marquess of Malice is no exception. Tammy has sure an imagination and this book is very well written. This story has a cruel childhood, not wanting to love, feeling just suitable, a kidnapping, evil, revenge, a broken hand, family love, an author and yes love. I highly recommend you read this book.

I liked Cordelia's character. She did not pretend to be anything other than her down-to-earth self. Writing was an outlet to fill in the loneliness of being overlooked and ignored because she was quiet and shy. Malice's character I feel needs work. His personality did not make sense to me. I could not figure out who he was. As the story goes on it explains why he was the way he was but what was that? I just could not connect with his character. Also, there were several editing issues I found that were inconsistent. That interrupted the flow of the story and jolted me out of the scene. It just did not make sense to me. I have enjoyed this series but will consider this an anomaly as I really like this author's other work. On to the next book.

Please read LORD OF SCANDAL first because the series will make more sense and it is free! You don't have to read book 1 but do read the prequel.

Reviews have been all over on this story but I really enjoyed it. The h/H both have issues and I enjoyed how they slowly realized what they meant to each other.

There is suspense, a twist I didn't see coming and a good set up for the next story. Romance builds slowly and I loved the banter between the two.

There is lovemaking, just outside of marriage, heat level 2.5 out of 5 and only described once and some passionate kisses.

No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. (ljb)

The second book in the Lords of Scandal series and this one was Malice (Marquess of Malicorn) & Cordelia’s story. Disappointingly the premise was very similar to the first one in that Malice struggles to convey affection for anyone due to a bad childhood and therefore guards his heart. But unlike Minnie in the first book who was feisty & loud, Cordelia is shy, quiet and polite. Malice only meant to marry her to keep the secret safe about his gaming club and to get an heir, but he soon finds he’s experiencing feelings for Cordelia which throws himself and his plans into turmoil. Sweet story.

Chadwick Henessey/ Milicorn/Malice- he wanted a quite and biddable wife to stick out in the country after the heir is born, that is why he chose Cordelia to watch and keep the secret safe.
Lady Cordelia Chase - the quiet one and tends to fade in the back ground but had always dreamed of finding a man who saw her for herself and not because he found her “suitable". She may be quiet but she is also independent ,sassy and can stand up for herself. Also has a secret of her own.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful and captivating well written story. This story is where it's made more known that the lady villain is a villain not just a wounded gossiper, stirring up trouble and that she is out for revenge on Duke of Daring. All of the stories (the 1st 6 anyways ) intertwine with the 12 main characters just each story puts more of a focus on 2 that is heading towards a loving hea and their background. Their story does have a loving hea.
