Lamont Blackman had every right to be cynical, angry, and cold. He had been the happiest man on the planet when she was in his life, and she’d seemed happy too. And then, with no note, no explanation, no closure, she’d left. How could she have given him a slice of heaven and apparently cared nothing for him? Well, ‘F’ her! Basketball was all he had now, and basketball was all he was going to give a crap about. Everything in his life was finally coming together, and he was immune to her now. He was immune to all women. No one was getting under his radar and getting an opportunity to destroy him again. No way would he melt like a patsy when he saw her again. Issa was a woman used to taking care of herself. She had to. The world she lived and fought daily to survive in was violent, unpredictable, and perilous. She was forced to fight for every little ounce of freedom and to not be sucked into the deadly underworld her father controlled. The stolen time with Lamont had been worth every second of pain she suffered afterwards. She knew he hated her, and she did everything to ensure he continued to hate her. If he ever found out the truth, their lives and the lives of their families would be in imminent jeopardy.
The first romance novel I ever read was Cinderella! I devoured Disney’s version of romance until I was eleven, and then I discovered Mills & Boons. In those days kissing was the most explicit intimacy disclosed: the hero and heroine went to bed and came out the next day with smiles! I had no idea what happened, but I was intrigued. My mom had shelves and shelves of them. Over the long summer breaks, I barely left my bedroom! My busy parent had no idea what I was up to. I’ve always been fascinated with love stories. I started writing in college, but I never expected anyone would ever read my whimsical musings. LOL! Now years later, after husband and kids, and a solid career in finance I’ve started publishing those early ideas.
I write my stories so that every woman would be inspired to find the other half of themselves. With every story I tell, my Caribbean sisters are highlighted. Our culture is a melting pot of all ethnicities, where love has no color. We love who we love and make no apology for it. These stories are also infused with my love for sports and action thrillers. I’m an avid sports fan. Tennis, football, track and basketball are my favorites. I devour dramas and action movies. So it’s to be expected that my books have a healthy dose of adventure.
Writing romance novels has been a dream I never knew I had. It was born out of suddenly having a little extra time with the kids out of the house. I absolutely love this creative outlet.
Author’s Creed I like women strong, and my men stronger! I like my sex raunchy but meaningful!
A story full of passion and action, heart break and forgiveness. Lamont grew on me especially after he meets his family. Issa is just amazing - brave and fearless. I also loved the story because the writer brings back the guardian team doing what they do best. Great action against the yakuza. Loved the whole story. Another great novel from the pen of D. Mortier. She never fails to impress and has given me no end of sleepless nights staying up to read her novels which I cannot put down!!

Ms Mortier, great job! when i started the book i wasn’t expected all that action...wow!! And what a treat to spend time with my favorite book’s husband Dominic Stone and his team!? dang! Lamont is one of a kind, faithful to his very core. A 16 years old boy falling in love at first sight to a 13 years old girl, waiting faithfully for her until she is 16 to kiss her for the first time and 18 to consummate the relationship. INCREDIBLE!! And life happened, she broke his heart, against her will, but he doesn’t know that... all he knows, she left him to “marry “ someone else, chosen by her father. Even then, his body still belongs to her, no other woman will do. wow!!! But, what meant to be will be, they will meet again, and it will be one hell a battle, literally. great read ❣️❣️❣️
Broken Promises by. D. M. Mortier was one of the best books I read to date. I loved how Dominic Seals team was involved in this story. I love Neo and Tarik and hope there's a story with Tarik in love. Sean and Rica are bad asses.
I am a true fan from the moment I read "Secret Obsession" I'm obsessed with anything written by this author. It is well written, thrilling, exciting and loving. Also, The women are badass!! I also love seeing familiar faces and the connections in each story.I Highly recommend!
D.M you never disappoint. Your writing style is so good. And the icing on this cake was reading about my birth island Barbados. Kudos to you for a another exciting and well written read.
Lamont fell in love with her the first time he saw Issa. She felt the same. When she was old enough to go to college she stayed with him in his room, never telling him that her Asian father was head of one of the fiercest secret organisations, and would never allow them to be together. She left abruptly, with no warning, to protect Lamont when her father became aware of her clandestine relationship. Graphic sexual scenes prior to yhay betwern her and Lamont, followed by violent clashes between her father's organisation and Lamont's Navy Seal contacts led to the lovers eventually finding a way to be together at last, after many years of his bitter rage at her defection.
Everything was extreme. Love-making was off the charts. Fighting was way beyond any normal human being's capabilities. Inherited genes were also way more extreme than any normal person could experience. Healing was almost immediate despite the severity. Readers must accept Lamont's frustration and lack of understanding about that as well as their super-human activities. Perhaps author Mortier relived childhood fantasies of Super-Heroes through these characters? The story was interesting despite this.
There was a lot going on in this book, but it kept me enthralled! So much passion and action, I need to read the other books!!! I loved the family love, even though Issa’s was much complicated. Like grandfather, like father, like son. It was fun to see how similar Lucas turned out to be like his paternal side of the family without any of their upbringing.
The most enjoyable part of this book was seeing Dominic and crew in action. Lamont's character was over the top possessive and way past alpha. The conflict with the Yakuzi was unevenly developed.
Issa and Lamont story was romantic, suspendful and sectioned pact. I liked how Ms. Mortier Implemented others characters from her previous books. Loved this series hope more will come; great job D.M Mortier you're a great writer!
It was not bad. A bit jumpy from one thing to the next. Previous characters in the book played a big part. Seemed all over the place but I kinda liked it.
