In Case of Emergency

Rate this book
When her boyfriend goes missing and a woman turns up dead, Charlotte must connect the dots for herself before she becomes the suspect, or the next victim.

Charlotte, a mid-thirties Long Island woman, has felt so alone since her promising career in neuroscience imploded. But she has an online support group; she has Rachel, a friend who has seen her through the worst of it; and now she also has Peter, a mysterious new boyfriend who has asked that their budding romance remain a total secret.

That is why she is too scared to report his disappearance to the authorities when he vanishes without a word.

Weeks later, police contact her to make an ID on a body, and she fears the worst for her missing beau. Instead, she arrives at the morgue and feels a terrible relief when she sees a woman she has never met on the table in front of her. But relief is replaced by confusion, then terror, when Charlotte realizes she has become a person of interest.

Why did Jane Doe have Charlotte listed as her emergency contact? Was it revenge or a warning? And where exactly does Peter factor into all this? As Charlotte becomes the prime murder suspect, she enters into a race against the clock to find out the truth about the dead woman and the connections they shared. But what she discovers is beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

Holy book hangover! I stayed up late into the night because I HAD to know how this was going to end. I loved this freaking psychological thriller! I was so excited to get my hands on this book because I loved The Woman Inside. In fact it was one my top 10 list of books the year I read it.

Charlotte has got it going on...she has the world at her fingertips. An up and rising star in the neurosurgery field, dating the head neurosurgeon...life is great for Charlotte, until it isn't. Charlotte's life comes to a screeching halt, she loses her career, her man, her mind- all in one day.

Finally getting her life back together, thanks to her support group and her boyfriend Peter whom she adores. Except Peter forbids her to tell anyone they are dating. Ummm okay there Charlotte...I mean what could go wrong with that?! That seems totally normal, right?

When Charlotte is called by the detectives to identify a body, she is sure it is Peter. He has been missing for three weeks. Again...totally normal right?! Except thank goodness it is not Peter. Instead it is some Jane Doe she has never seen in her life...so why is she Jane Doe's Emergency contact???? Good question!

This book had me guessing until the very, very end. I knew about 3 different times who was at fault for these crimes...and I was wrong every single time. It gave me a ton of angst late into the night until I finished the last page. I was hoping the end would deliver and it did...oh yes it did.

Thank you so much to Kathleen Carter- kccpr for this gorgeous finished copy. Thank you to E.G. Scott for killing it again with another fantastic book!

Charlotte’s promising career in neuroscience imploded when a patient died during surgery, but a support group and Rachel, a TRUE best friend, helped her to rebound. Now she has an acupuncture practice and Peter, a new boyfriend she is excited about.

Until he ghosts her.

When the police contact her to make an ID on a dead body, she expects that it will be Peter. But, it’s a “Jane Doe” on the table-not a “John Doe”. Relief becomes confusion when she is told that she was called because she was listed as the woman’s “in case of emergency” contact.

But, she has never met the woman.

With no explanation for the two detectives on the case, Silvestri and Wolcott, she becomes a suspect. Is she being framed? Does this have anything to do with Peter? And, can she prove her innocence in time?

This story has intrigued me, since it was published, and now I wish I had gotten to it sooner! I loved the complexity of the mystery surrounding ALL of our characters, as bits and pieces were revealed slowly as the story progressed. I felt like Charlotte was reliable, but I could never be quite sure.

This was an AUDIBLE 🎧 listen, and the narrated by a terrific cast of 4, representing Charlotte, Rachel, Silvestri and Wolcott. I really enjoyed the narration-other than the fact that our very agreeable and cooperative characters, were always saying “OF COURSE”! (A very minor gripe!) 😂

The story was engaging from start to finish, although when our perpetrator was revealed, I felt that the individual looking for retribution had focused on the wrong person, so the explanation seemed like a bit of a stretch-or this might’ve rated even higher for me.

3.75 ⭐️

This was my first book by E.G. Scott-the duo of two best friends, Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands. Each has written plays, screenplays and short stories separately until teaming up to write their debut together, “The Woman Inside” in 2019, which I still need to read. They are currently at work on their third thriller, tentatively titled, “The Rule of Three” which is scheduled for publication in 2022.

I am definitely looking forward to its release!

Charlotte’s career has gone down the tubes, and she attends an online support group. Her friend, Rachel, is a gem, and now she has Peter, too, a new boyfriend. A secret boyfriend because he wants their relationship to stay between them.

When he disappears, Charlotte is reluctant to report it. Some time later, the police ask her to identify a body. It’s not Peter, but instead, a woman she doesn’t know. And now Charlotte becomes a person of interest because she is listed as an emergency contact for this woman.

In Case of Emergency is such a wild ride of twists and turns. I never knew where this was headed, and I loved that. Compelling, clever, and original, it’s time to buckle up and go on a twisty ride with In Case of Emergency!

I received a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

This book was a huge surprise. I think it is one of the best books I have read this year, in this genre. There is mystery, suspense murder, twists, and mostly reliable and likeable characters.

Charlotte and Rachel share office space together. They met when they were studying Chinese Medicine, opened their practice together, and fast became best friends. They each entered the field leaving some heavy baggage behind; Charlotte was a talented brain surgeon who lost a patient and suffered a crisis, and Rachel was a recovered addict. The depth and strength of their friendship is felt throughout the novel. Rachel is now addicted only to mental and physical health, and she is totally empathetic to Charlotte’s occasional emotional backslides. Charlotte’s boyfriend Peter is virtually (double entendre intended) out of the picture. He works for the government, very hush hush, he will not meet with Charlotte’s friends, she is not allowed to talk to others about him, he disappears for long periods of time, communicates with her mostly by phone, internet, and automatic deleting messaging platform – Charlotte is completely besotted which is hard to swallow, considering she is/was an extremely talented brain surgeon. Charlotte met him in an anonymous online support group, the only place where she feels comfortable enough to bare her soul. Even Rachel does not know about Charlotte’s online activities, but Rachel is protective of her friend and tries to uncover information about Peter, worrying that his clandestine behavior may serve to shield a predator. Charlotte is secretive about Peter and does not share, neither does she appreciate Rachel’s prying in this matter.

Charlotte’s and Rachel’s practice is suffering because someone is anonymously writing scathing reviews about Charlotte on Yelp. When Charlotte is at her lowest, financially, professionally, and emotionally she is called into the county coroner’s office to identify a body. She is frantic, sure it must be Peter who has been out of touch for a month. Charlotte is stunned and relieved to see that it is not Peter, but rather a woman, and she has no idea who the woman is or why her name appears as the contact number in case of emergency, in Jane Doe’s personal effects. Enter a team of two quirky but professional police detectives, Silvestri and Wolcott, who are looking at Charlotte as a person of interest when suddenly a person close to Charlotte is murdered. At this point, the investigation of both murders is uncovering more and more evidence pointing to Charlotte, and she is beginning to unravel. And if all that is not bad enough, her Mom (Charlotte's bane and the brunt of her snarkiest remarks) shows up on her doorstep.

….and, that’s as far as I’m going to take the reader other than to say that there are plenty of suspects and clues to keep the reader guessing, twists not altogether that twisty but good, and a paralyzingly mind-blowing ending (yet another double double entendre?).

I felt the authors really loved all the characters in the book, even “the villains”. Charlotte being an interesting, flawed, and sympathetic character. The narrative was smooth and did not zigzag back and forth to earlier periods, but rather, the past was examined, where necessary, in retrospect only.

One of the pleasantest surprises for me was the Epilogue which, although I normally distain as unnecessary in most cases, was the perfect digestif for this book. All issues, re whodunnit and why, were tied up neatly before the Epilogue. The Epilogue added another dimension to the story and a possibility for new beginnings.

I listened to the audio edition of this book and the narrators were very good. E.G. Scott is a pseudonym for yet another writing duo, Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands.

3.5 stars rounded down.

In Case of Emergency was a fast paced, intriguing story which kept me turning pages. I loved the unique premise...being called to the morgue to identify a body you've never seen before, because you were, oddly enough, listed as the emergency contact.

The red herrings were well done, the characters were decently developed, and I really enjoyed the descriptions of alternative (Eastern) medicine, which I utilize myself. I do feel there were too many narratives...I don't believe we needed points of view from both detectives, for instance. It definitely muddied the flow.

The conclusion, too, wasn't a love match with me. While I didn't figure out the antagonist, which is always a great thing, I did feel the big reveal was pretty far-fetched...as were the reasons given for all the death and chaos which ensued.

Further, I found Charlotte, the main character, annoying. For a hot-shot neurosurgeon, she certainly was gullible. And why in the world did every character use the endearment, "honey?" It was utilized so frequently throughout the story, it quickly became distracting and irksome.

Final thoughts: If you're looking for a quick, action-packed, easy read...this is a good, though somewhat problematic, option.

Pick up your own copy on August 4th in the United States.

**My sincere thanks to NetGalley and Dutton for my review copy. It's always appreciated.

*Many thanks to NetGalley, Dutton, and E.G. Scott for an ARC of this book!! Now available as of 8.4.20! Also available in paperback as of 8.3.21!*

I thoroughly enjoyed The Woman Inside by E.G. Scott and was very excited to be granted a wish by the publisher for this title! Charlotte is an acupuncturist with a mysterious past, trying to recover from a tragedy that occurred when she used to be a surgeon. However, she is now slowly moving forward with the help of a support group and her best friend Rachel. A phone call asking her to ID a body throws her for a loop...she has never met the victim, yet she is listed as the Jane Doe's emergency contact. Rachel fears her friend's cagey new boyfriend Peter could be dragging Charlotte down a dangerous path, but who should Charlotte actually fear?

This thriller was definitely a slow burn for me. At about the halfway point, it began to pick up speed and started getting more exciting. I think the authors did a great job of setting up Charlotte's world and some of the characters, but I would have liked to see a deeper exploration of the relationship between Charlotte and her mother. There were some interesting power dynamics in regards to Charlotte's childhood and the past she is struggling to remember and I would have liked a more in-depth look into those aspects of her life. There were also a couple of plot threads with Peter that weren't fully flushed out by the book's end, but the final twist was well-written and was very unexpected! I also appreciated that even though this is a mystery/thriller, the authors created a fully-fleshed out friendship between Rachel and Charlotte and managed to slip some thoughts on the merits of a strong friendship between two females into the novel.

Although I might be a little wary of getting anywhere near acupuncture myself after reading this one, I think that was a fascinating career choice for our protagonist and set the stage for a very unique story. This was a solid thriller from the duo of E.G. Scott and I am thoroughly looking forward to their next book!

Charlotte has had to reinvent her life after her career as a neurosurgeon ended with a tragedy. She turned her love for helping others into her acupuncture practice on Long Island with her best friend Rachel as her business partner. Charlotte’s most important support besides Rachel has been her trauma survivors group and her long-distance boyfriend Peter. But Peter’s mysterious job has forced their romance to be a secret, and when he suddenly goes silent, Charlotte doesn’t know what to do.

After weeks of no trace of Peter, Charlotte is called to ID a body. Instead of finding Peter in the morgue, a woman she has never met is lying there. The Jane Doe was found with Charlotte’s name and number, leading to more questions than answers as Charlotte tries to find a connection to her. As the story unfolds, more mysteries arise and Detectives Wolcott and Silvestri turn to Charlotte as their prime suspect.

In Case of Emergency by E.G. Scott is full of surprising twists and dark turns. It will keep you guessing until the end.

E.G. Scott’s novel “The Woman Inside” was one of my favorite reads last year and I’ve been eager to jump into this new one. It did not disappoint!

Charlotte was on track to become a successful neurosurgeon, until a scandelous incident ended her career. Now she is settled into her new life as an accupunturist, trying to leave her past behind her.

Then an unidentified woman is found dead, with no signs of her cause of death, and Charlotte is listed as her emergency contact. But she doesn’t know her. Add in Charlotte’s mysterious BF, Peter, and you have a suspenseful and unpredictable read that keeps you guessing!

Thank you to Edelweiss, E.G. Scott and Dutton Books, for this free digital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

Another incredible group read with No Rules - Just Thrills!

How's this for an awesome premise? When a brilliant but troubled doctor is listed as the emergency contact for a woman found dead - a woman who was a complete stranger - she finds herself the prime suspect in the murder. Perfection! Something special happens when you have two life long friends writing novels as a team. The dynamic duo known as EG Scott had a breakout sensation last year with The Woman Inside, and their latest is every bit as compelling. Together, they accomplish that rare feat of weaving a complex plot with razor sharp narration and witty dialogue. Add it to your TBR now!

Między słowami słychać krzyk o pomoc, o zrozumienie, o zwykłą ludzką godność, i to właśnie ta podskórna warstwa powieści robi ogromne wrażenie.

I liked this interesting and unique mystery. It is about a neurosurgeon who is forced to quit medicine after a tragedy. She is now an acupuncturist and alternative healer. When she becomes implicated in a murder, her past as a surgeon comes back to haunt her.

The writing was fast-paced and very suspenseful and the many threads of the story came together well through the various narrators. The authors (who I just learned are a team of two lifelong friends) do a great job with the characters, the mystery, and building suspense throughout.

There were a couple plot points that were a little hard to swallow, but the authors did such a good job building thrills that I didn’t mind and really enjoyed the ride. I really liked the unique focus on alternative medicine and plant healing (and murder) techniques. There are a lot of thrillers out there treading the same ground, but this one felt new and different. I will definitely read the next mystery from this duo.

Thanks to NetGalley, Penguin and the authors for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

This book had so much potential for me. I loved the premise and I was excited to read it. It sounded like it was going to be quite the nail bitter and I think the cover has a lot of visual interest to grab readers right away.

I love books like this where the main character is a suspect in the murder of a complete stranger. For some reason that troupe always draws me in because that has got to be someone’s worst nightmare.

I mean, I don’t know what I would do if I was being treated as a person of interest in a murder of a person I had never met before. So right away this one sounded so amazing to me and I couldn’t wait to crack it open.

I have to say, I don’t know that I loved this one in the way that I had hoped. Don’t get me wrong the story itself was twisty and interesting and I did stay up reading so I could find out what happened in the end. For me though, I struggled with some of the mechanics of the book. The dialogue didn’t read smoothly for me at parts for some reason. This book is written by two people, a man and a woman who have been friends for many years. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t, in this one I think that it was one of the reasons that the book didn’t seem to flow in the way that I had hoped. It felt a little disjointed in spots but not overall if that makes sense.

I haven’t read anything by these authors before, I would consider reading more by them in the future though even though the book felt a little disjointed and I will tell you why—I thought there were plenty of twists for avid thriller fans to enjoy. It had potential and a great story overall, I just felt like maybe it would have been a better story by one author.

this one really did hook me from the beginning though. I liked the idea of the main character being the emergency contact for this random woman she didn’t know. I think that alone would draw readers in, not to mention some of the other things like the boyfriend who wanted their relationship kept secret. Lots of things to make readers uneasy but in a good way.

If you are a thriller fan and love lots of action, then I think you will enjoy this one. The characters are developed and interesting, but it’s the twists that the story takes that I found most interesting. I am looking forward to more books by this team even if this one needed a little polishing in the dialogue, it really has all the right ingredients, just needs a little refining to make it a truly great read!

I tried to read this and also tried to listen to the audio book but struggled with this.

I cannot get past the dialogue that just needed to be edited a bit more for usage and readability. The over use of “honey” from multiple characters were very distracting as well and really took away from the message.

When I found out this was written by two people, it made sense how the story did not weave seamlessly. It did feel like two people wrote it and just did not seam well.

I am so disappointed for not being able to push through after so many tries. I think this was just not for me in the end, however it may work out well for you. Do give it a try as the book had a promising storyline and premise that will definitely pique your interest.

❐ Overall Rating 3⭐ | Narration 😁 = Very Good
❐ Narrated by Lynde Houck, Mike Chamberlain, George Newbern & Dylan Moore
❐ Listening Length: 11H 55M
❐ Mystery/Thriller/Suspense
❐ Had some eye-roll-inducing moments

The Good:

Oddly compelling premise.
Interesting tidbits on what an acupuncturist performs in their profession.
Separate narrators for each POV
The ending while mostly unbelievable was entertaining…

The Bad:

There’s really only one thing for this...but it really set the tone of the entire story for me. --You know how the movie True Lies starts out with Jamie Lee Curtis’ character meeting up with a guy who is pretending he is some sort of spy and she is all caught up in his so-called spy stuff...and you, the viewer is left wondering how she could ever believe this douche bag is a government spy? That’s sort of what transpires in this book, only it’s actually worse, ridiculous even. This was like the hinge on my suspension of belief and it was broken AF because of this.

One of my favorite writing duos is back again with a summer page turner. I devoured The Woman Inside so you can imagine I was stoked for this release. It was freaking fantastic! It really had it all and while I wasn’t particularly shocked at the ending I have to admit I suspected everyone at some point. Charlotte was the perfect hot mess express we needed for this tale. I could totally see this playing out on the big screen.

Highly recommend to fellow suspense readers.

I was so excited to get In Case of Emergency, as I recently read and loved E.G. Scott's first book The Woman Inside. And I was thrilled when I realized the two detectives from their first book are partners on the case again in this one. In Case of Emergency is definitely a stand-alone book, but I highly recommend you pick up The Woman Inside while you wait for this one to come out.

Charlotte is a neurosurgeon turned accupuncturist who is called in by the police to identify the body. While she is relieved not to know the dead woman, Charlotte is unsure why her contact information is the only thing this woman had with her. As she tries to help the police learn who this stranger is and find a connection to her, Charlotte quickly realizes she's their primary suspect.

The two detectives are back with a bigger role this time, which provides some comic relief and banter. The rest of the book was a crazy, twisted, entertaining ride that hooked me in and kept me guessing. I was completely shocked when the killer's identity was revealed. The final scene was intense, and had me squirming on the edge of my seat. This duo certainly knows how to write a psychopath! Thanks to NetGalley for my early copy. In Case of Emergency comes out August 4, 2020.

This was a very good book. The story was intriguing. What if you were called to identify a body because you were listed as the emergency contact, but you did not know the person? This would surely disturb you. But there is even more as the story progresses. It a good read. I highly recommend it.

In Case of Emergency is the newly released second book from E.G. Scott.

As the book opens, we meet Charlotte. There's something in her background that she alludes to more than once, but doesn't define right away. She also is worried about her boyfriend Peter - she's not heard from him and is afraid he's missing. But he's told her his job is clandestine and she is not to worry when she doesn't hear from him. So, she doesn't go to the authorities. Instead, the authorities end up calling on her. There's a body she needs to identify as she was listed as the emergency contact. Problem is - she doesn't know the person.

Okay, I thought that was a great premise - so much could be done with this start. The missing boyfriend has lots of possibilities as well.

We also meet Rachel, Charlotte's friend and colleague. She too has secrets that end up taking a while to learn about. And yes, those slow reveals absolutely work in a suspense novel. But, I have to say the opening salvos were overly enigmatic.

There are many more plot twists and additions as things move forward. The red herrings were done well. But for me, it was tooooo much and way overdone. In the end, the final 'whodunit' was ridiculously unbelievable.

Here's the other thing - I didn't like either character at all. Charlotte is supposed to be brilliant, yet her actions speak otherwise. And this is just something that annoyed me - they two of them call each other 'honey' - over and over again.

E. G. Scott is the shared pseudonym of authors Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands. And upon discovering this, it explained much. In Case of Emergency reads like two people wrote it - and every idea that was brainstormed was included.

This one wasn't for me - but you can find lots of folks who enjoyed it on Goodreads.

I loved The Woman Inside so when the publisher granted my wish for this one I was elated! This one, like the previous novel, has quirky and unique characters whose motives you are never quite sure of. Charlotte is an acupuncturist who once had a job as a surgeon, but circumstances forced her out. Now she works in a small office with her best friend, Rachel who does reflexology and massage. Charlotte has a new boyfriend and we know something is up with him as he's very secretive and claims he has a job with the government that prevents their relationship from going public. But when Charlotte is called on to identify a body and she has no idea who this woman is, things start to unravel quickly and all sorts of crazy things happen! And I do mean crazy! Yes, it's a little far-fetched but oh so entertaining! If you like thrillers, don't miss this one as it's a true roller-coaster ride!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

When I read the description of this book, I was so intrigued. A former brain surgeon whose failed experimental surgery lead to a woman dying is somehow listed as the victim's sister's emergency contact when she herself is found dead. Sign me up! However, other than the creative premise, I was overall disappointed by the book. The main character, Charlotte, wasn't very likable and was all over the place with her erratic emotions. Her relationship with Rachel is very odd and borderline unhealthy, which is once mentioned by Charlotte's other friend, but then is never touched on again. I also found the dialogue to be very stilted and unnatural. While all of the "loose ends" were tied up at the end of the book, I didn't find the resolution satisfying. It seemed random and didn't make a ton of sense. While I normally tear through thrillers, eager to find out how the story will resolve, I found myself more eager to be done with the book once and for all.

They found Charlotte’s name and phone number on the dead woman, but that doesn’t mean Charlotte was her emergency contact. Charlotte has a practice, could someone have given the woman Charlotte’s business card?

I Hated the silly, meaningless dialogue in the book. What do I care about Charlotte’s clients? Really.

And what’s up with this secret boyfriend that would simply show up to visit her without calling first? Like, you were there just waiting for him 24/7?

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this title.

An uneven thriller from an author I liked. The dialog and the scenarios fell flat for me. I did not get invested in Charlotte’s story not even when she was listed as an emergency contact for a stranger.

Thanks to the publisher for the advance copy reading access.

This was a fast paced fluffy read full of twists, but don't go into it expecting much.

The main character is a neurosurgeon, yet she seemed exceptionally lacking in common sense and that bothered me.

Charlotte, a mid-thirties Long Island woman, has been working for the last few years to rebuild her life after she watched her future in neuroscience blow up in her face. Just as she believes her life is turning around, Charlotte’s boyfriend has gone missing and a corpse has turned up with a card listing her as the dead woman’s emergency contact. The problem is, Charlotte has never seen this woman before. Things start to go from bad to worse as Charlotte finds herself being investigated for murder. Who was this woman and what does she have to do with Charlotte?

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY is my first book by writing duo E.G. Scott. I absolutely love finding out that author names are pseudonyms for writing duos like Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands. Can you imagine penning a book with someone else? I can’t even begin to think about writing one on my own, let alone figuring out how to create a seamless story with someone else.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY examines the strange connections between our main character, Charlotte, and a recent murder victim. Scott plays a fun game with revealing how these two characters are related to each other and how Charlotte is seemingly involved with the murder. I loved the dynamics of the two detectives leading the case and Charlotte herself.

In order to draw out the truth in this story, Scott wisely gives the reader four alternating narratives. We hear from Charlotte, the two detectives investigating the murder, and Charlotte’s best friend and coworker. Each narrative offers a new perspective either on the case or on Charlotte and how the two may have crossed paths. I loved how by providing these different narratives, Scott created a book that combines thriller with police procedural. Watching the investigation and the main suspect truly allowed for a full picture to be created.

The chapters are kept quite short in this book, which helps to propel the story forward at a quick place. Often the reader finds themselves with a cliffhanger during one of the narratives, which naturally means you must keep reading! I love when authors use this technique to keep the story interesting and the reader on their toes.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY is a great addition to the crime fiction genre and has given me a new writing duo to read more from! I’m excited to check out E.G. Scott’s previous title, THE WOMAN INSIDE, after reading this book!

A huge thank you to Dutton for my gifted copy!

Charlotte has felt alone since her promising career in neuroscience fell apart. But she's found support via an online group for trauma survivors; her best friend, Rachel; and Peter, a mysterious new boyfriend who has asked that their budding romance remain a total secret.

That is why Charlotte is too scared to report Peter's disappearance to the authorities when he vanishes without a word.

Weeks later, police contact her to make an ID on a body and she fears it's Peter. Who else could it be? Instead, the deceased woman is a complete stranger. But relief is fleeting, when Charlotte realizes Jane Doe had Charlotte listed as her emergency contact, making Charlotte a person of interest in the death.

In Case of Emergency is a fascinating, fast-paced mystery with compelling characters. I recommend this novel for fans of mysteries and suspense.

Content Warnings: SPOILERS forced psychiatric commitment (in the past); medical malpractice END SPOILERS

I really, really liked this book. Right from the beginning the story hooks you and reels you in. I love the way the authors threw out a curveball of "surprise" information to astound you and to keep you on the edge of your seat. This was a new-to-me author... but I'm already raving about them. I'm a fan!
