My family and I love the Sweet Pickles books. My boys are 17 and 15 years old. At dinner I just asked them what Children's books they remember so I can add them to this list. They both said that they loved the Sweet Pickle books, and Green Eggs and Ham. :-). Sometimes I read Very Worried Walrus to classes when I sub. They always enjoy it.
I found this old book to be very humorous and the characters to be hilarious. Nasty nightingale starts problems with everyone in town and they all round up together to give her a taste of her own medicine.
This book has a character Nightingale who is not very nice at all and all the people around her are tired of her being mean. So they all get together and figure out a way to get her back. I don't like the message that this book sends out that we should seek revenge when someone is not nice. I would not use this in the classroom.
She was a difficult voice to do in character when I read that book in the series. I enjoyed the challenge, the plot and group inclusion although it wasn't one of my son's favorites with so many upset town's people. The artist I think made many good decisions for a child that might want to copy.
