35. Newly divorced. Single dad.

Jack Reynolds never thought he’d be wading back into the dating pool at this point in his life.

To brave the singles scene, Jack decides he needs to lose his dad bod in favor of something a little more cut.

And getting back into shape is a lot easier with the help of his new friend, Corbin Barnes.

But then, Corbin just has a way of making everything easier and fun.

Even with his family drama, Corbin keeps Jack laughing with his amazing sense of humor and those sexy smiles.

Whoa…wait a minute! Sexy smiles?

Yeah, Jack can’t deny it. Corbin is a very sexy man.

Jack treasures his friendship with Corbin, but is he willing to risk it to take a chance on something that could everything he dreamed of…with a guy?

A very sexy, sweet, younger guy.

Jack might need a little Christmas magic to figure this one out and still get his happily ever after.

Defrosting Jack is a standalone MM holiday novella that has two cute kids, a meddling younger brother, a disapproving father, a sexy nun, a sprinkling of Christmas magic, and dirty fun with dessert.

While I enjoyed this story, I didn't find that it had quite that same *spark* that the first and third books did.

The initial slow burn was nice, with the guys meeting at the gym, then eventually beginning to date and deciding to take their relationship to the next level.

I was glad to see that during that process, Jack never experienced any Big Gay Freakout, I think mainly due to how comfortable he'd always been around his brother Adam, who had come out years before.

Once Jack finally introduced Corbin to the kids, after only a few months of dating, the progression of their relationship felt like it hit warp speed super-quickly and felt slightly rushed to me.

For me, I think I would've probably liked the story a bit more if it had contained more on-page time with the kids. Instead, even when Jack had them for two week stints, they seemed more like faint background noise than all that central to his life.

I was thrilled that the previously-toxic, homophobic ex-wife plotline didn't turn into a huge thing for either Corbin or Jack's brother, Adam (from book 3). Thank God for therapy. heh

As the story came to a close, I was happy to revisit with all of the previous couples again at a holiday party at Spencer and Evan's. These little looks back to reconnect with previous MC's always tend to make me smile.

I'd rate this book at around 3.5 stars, but round down due to the lack of heart-racing excitement for which I was hoping.

Defrosting Jack is a low angst, GFY/OFY, friends-to-lovers romance, with just enough Christmas cheer to make it a worthwhile read this holiday season.

Jack is a 37-year-old divorcee sharing custody of his two young children with his ex-wife, Leslie. Being out of the dating game for a while now, Jack feels like he’s let himself go a little, so he joins a gym to get rid of his self-proclaimed “dad bod” and to gain some of his lost confidence back. It’s there that he meets and sparks up a friendship with 26-year-old Corbin.

Jack and Corbin start working out together regularly, quickly forming a bond that neither can imagine going without. When it becomes obvious that Corbin is gay and possibly interested in Jack, Jack has to deep dive into feelings and desires he’s left untapped for the entirety of his adult life, realising pretty quickly that he’s seriously attracted to Corbin and that he might just identify as bisexual instead of straight after all.

The transition from friends-to-lovers was fairly effortless for these two and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the lack on internal relationship drama. Jack’s newly discovered bisexuality, although recent and nerve wracking, was ultimately tackled head on, mostly due to the amazing show of love and support given to Jack by his younger, gay brother, Adam (MC of book three, Snowball's Chance). I appreciated the lack of angst surrounding Jack’s evolving sexuality, and even more than that, I appreciated how good these two were at communicating their thoughts, feelings and fears — it was all very mature and no nonsense, which worked a treat for me and my give no f*cks mood.

For me, this wasn’t quite as memorable as books one and three in the series, but even so, Jack and Corbin’s romance was sweet, heart-warming, and deliciously sexy with those tender and passionate first-time feels.

Love the cover - reminds me of the movie Jack Frost - I love Snowmen, they are Christmas for me.

I enjoyed this, the relationship journey between Jack and Corbin, going from gym buddies to friends to lovers was sweet and sexy.

Throw in the family near the end was fun and Leslie redeemed herself in this with Jack.

Loved the epilogue, with the rest of the couples from the previous books in this series making an appearance.

I liked the way this was written monthly so their relationship was not rushed.

The only thing I missed in this was Christmas, yes we got December but no Christmas day. I highly recommend book 1 & 2 from this series for the Christmas feels.

As much as I liked Jack in the previous book, I'm not feeling this story. It started well. I liked that Jack and Corbin were friends first, though most of it happened off page. But I'm just not feeling them as a couple.
Also, I'm pretty sure there will be some drama with Corbin's homophobic father and Jack's homophobic ex-wife and I'm not looking forward to that. Not a fan of ott family dramas.
This might be a short story, but I don't feel like finishing it.

This was a solid 3.5 stars for me but I didn't love enough to round up. But it was definitely worth the read and was super cute. If you want something sweet, zero to low angst, medium steam, and nice feels, add this to your Christmas reading list.

I see that this is the fourth one in a Christmas series by this author. I did meet all of the past couples in this book so I can tell I'm going to have to go back and read them all now. Oh darn...

Jack

3.5 stars

Divorcee, Jack, is looking to get fit before heading back into the dating pool. Along the way he makes a gym buddy with Corbin. The two hit it off and feelings of friendship blossom into something more. Jack also discovers he may not be as straight as he thought and Corbin finds the courage to make a stand against his father.
Overall, cute but not sure it can be considered a Christmas story. Sure it ends around the time but began much sooner than that 🤷🏽‍♀️

I liked the first half better than the second.

Jack's bisexual awakening is well written, and the author does make a decent enough job to explain it. However, I wasn't 100% convinced how easily Jack took to it all, not one worry, not one concern, not any issues whatsoever (well, apart from one to do with his kids). Like a duck to water, my word!!!

This is probably one of the hottest Christmas novellas I've read this year, and there is quite a generous dollop of sex handed out. Still, for me this somehow missed that special ingredient that makes me ooohh and aaahh and basically all soppy and gooey around!
But I did appreciate the get together of all previous characters in this Christmas novella series! And I love that cover and the title!

Nice read, but no more.

Better than the last two but Book 1 will always be my favorite. And since it seems like all the guys in this circle of friendship have been paired up that this might be the last one? That makes me sad.

Also, since it's set in Cincy, I wish there had been some tie-in to the Unbreakable Bonds series, especially that last scene given that Spenser is so rich I figured he'd at least run in the same circles as Lucas!!

This had so much potential but never crossed that threshold to greatness for me. I liked Corbin and Jack, but the added family melodrama really ruined the holiday vibe. Corbin’s situation was so unnecessary and didn’t add to the story at all. It felt too much like manufactured drama just to say that both men “overcame” some obstacles to reach their love. 🙄

I’ve come to look forward to these holiday stories, but this one did not live up to my expectations.

Just the right amount of Christmas cheer, without the sappiness. Loved it !
Professor Jack, 36, has his Doctorate,

teaches Literature, and shares custody of two kids, Clair, 9, and Cole, 7. He's close with his brother, Adam and his partner. His "Dad bod" needs changing, so he goes to the gym.
There he meets muscled Corbin, 25,

a construction worker, who works out to stay in shape and get relief from the stress of working for his homophobic father. They make a deal to be work out buddies and use Corbin's routine.
Through the months of their gym visits they become great friends, listening to each other's issues, texting, discussing dating problems for Jack, and get along very well. When things get different for Jack, he goes to his brother for advice.
Corbin has a bad day with his father, and Jack goes out for coffee with him. This is their chance to talk and for Jack to express his interest. Then, a kiss or two, and Jack is really on-board, loving the smell of his aftershave, his muscles, his soft hair... From then on, it was more talks, and first time M/M sexiness for Jack. It is spectacular sex for them both.
Corbin wishes he could do his hobby full-time, woodworking, at which he excels, and Jack has great suggestions. Little by little they meet some family, and cement their true feelings and passions. It's glorious !

The kids only play a minor part, and we see Jack's ex wife, and then the cruel man who is Corbin's father.
I loved each guy so much. They were strong, fierce, tender, compassionate and steady. The sizzling sex scenes were fabulous. I liked the wrap up and epilogue.

We don't get every question answered, but we know that life's has bumps.

Superior entertainment...
ENJOY ! Merry Christmas !

There were too many small but annoying things that kept me from enjoying this story.
-Contrary to the second book in the series here the MMC (Jack ) 's children exist, are the most important thing in his life, but are never on page. I really loved the way Lizzy was included in the second book. In this book the children are 7 and 9 years old. Jack supposedly has them both with him for half of every month, but is 5 days a week from 7 to 9 in the evening with Corbin working out at the fitness center? How is that believable?
-Jack and Corbin's relationship didn't feel genuine to me. I couldn't connect with them and was way too annoyed with Corbin when he got to his *he is a professor, we have nothing in common, he is out of my league" - whining.

It's strange though, because I adored the second book and liked the first and third.

I'll stop complaining now.

Cute. I little repetitive in parts (they talks about nothing, they talked about nonsense, they talked about random things, etc.) I liked the characters. The drama was small and short lived. Everything wrapped neatly with a bow. Great for a quick, sweet read

Yet another enjoyable Christmas romance. I really am liking this series. It might become my annual Christmas read.

This one features a newly divorced Jack (Adams brother). After meeting his ex’s new boyfriend Jack comes to the realisation that he has a dads bod. If he’s going to hit the dating scene again then he needs to up his game. Which starts with the gym.
This is where he meets Corbin. They click immediately and Jack discovers he’s found a friend. But as time goes by and Jack endures several truly terrible bad dates. He comes to realise that maybe his feelings for Corbin go deeper that just friendship.

Another fabulous little festive romance. It doesn’t quite have the spark of the first one. But I’m loving this series.

I could so relate to Jack's feelings about facing the dating scene again and finding it so very different since the last time he had to. He's stuck between his insecurities about his dad body, the need to use strange apps and simple moaning about the situation. He doesn't know yet that everything changes with his desicion to join a gym and he's not aware of the significance of the growing friendship with Corbin while he's still doing his rounds in the dating circus but after he opens his eyes he jumps right into it. No guilt, no doubt, no big misunderstandings, just overcoming some odds, smiling away some awkward situations and helping your partner to get over his insecurities ... it's a joy to read how easy it could be to fall in love and even better because the author makes it believable and not just floods the story with sugary fluff.

Would I have enjoyed it so much outside the Holiday season? Probably not as much and even while I'm in this mind set where I like to believe against all odds the solution to the Leslie situation was too easy, too fast and I could have done without the epilog. That was unnecessary and felt like it was only added to join the other couples from the previous books.

I liked this but the characters didn't think and act at all real. In fact, I found them very two dimensional. And Jack's enthusiastic embracing of MM sex was a little OTT, especially given he didn't even realize he was bi at the beginning of the story.

If you like stories with engaging characters--and both Jack and Corbin were very likable people--who have a metric ton of sizzling sex, this is the one to pick up.

I haven't read the others in the series and my interest was piqued by a few of the other couples mentioned but it didn't seem necessary to have read all the previous books so it can be a standalone.

Overall, it was an enjoyable holiday bi-for-you.

Jack and Corbin were adorable and simply perfect together! Absolutely obsessed with them! I loved how Jack loved his children and absolutely embraced being bi, and Corbin was so patient and sexy! Loved it! Plus, in the final chapter we get to revisit some of our faves!

So I really enjoyed Jack and Corbin as a couple in this. Sure Jack sudden interest in the male anatomy was a little out of nowhere, but as a couple they were very sweet. I think that's a little why this wasn't my favorite book in the series despite really liking the characters. I loved that these two met in the gym and were random workout buddies to start things off. The attraction grew over time for Jack, and Corbin was determined to ignore his own feelings for the friendship that had developed between them. But once Jack decided that he was interested, he was really all in with no angst over dating a guy. Sure there was a little hesitancy about what parts ultimately went where, but it caused no real drama or anything between them. Of course that probably has a lot to do with this being a low angsty holiday book.

Which actually probably is why my one other little urky thing went the way it did. I really didn't like Jack's ex in the previous book, for very obvious reasons. I was justifiably as nervous about Jack telling her that he was dating Corbin as Jack was. But in the spirit of the holidays that became kind of a non-event. For the purposes of the story I liked the way things were handled, but it didn't feel like as genuine a response as I was expecting based on how the previous book had established things. Still I wasn't super upset by it being I really just wanted another feel good holiday book out of this story and that's a lot of what I got.

This was everything I want in a Christmas story, lol. Even though it doesn't actually start at Christmas, the holidays definitely feature heavily in this story. It has a sweet friends-to-lovers theme and there's a fantastic balance between a GFY and realising that he might not be as straight as he always thought theme.

The MC's are very well written, although I don't expect anything different from this author, to be honest. There's no bitchy ex (even though she really was one in a previous story, lol) and the kids are there, but not front and centre. All in all a real joy to read! And the cameo at the end of all the previous couples was a lovely little touch *grin*

Warm and full of squishy good feelings, just like a good holiday story should be. I love these "bi-discovery" stories, especially when the newly-discovered-bi guy doesn't get all angsty about it. I haven't read the others in this series (although they're on my TBR and I'll get to them eventually) so I didn't recognize all the side characters. That meant most of the epilogue went over my head, but I don't think I really missed out on much by reading them in the wrong order.

I absolutely adored this story .... and it was exactly what I needed.
Jack is such a great character. I love how dedicated he is to his family and how open about changes in his sexuality.
Corbin was his perfect match, whom I adored as much.
It would have been great if the book would have some more scenes with both of them but all in all a great read.

I think this is my first book by this author. It won't be the last. Defrosting Jack is a great holiday tale featuring a man starting over post-divorce who is surprised to find that his sexuality swings in more than one direction. His love interest is super sweet and their relationship is believable and heart warming. Recommended.

3.5 stars for me, rounded up to 4 because I really enjoyed this.

This was recommended when a reddit story was making the rounds of a guy falling in love with his gym workout buddy, and falling for a man for the first time. And this one definitely fit that prompt perfectly!

I loved the quick friendship between Jack and Corbin that developed into something more for the both of them. I love how different they were but how great and perfect they were together.

My main reason for knocking off a star was the middle conflict bit and how it was written. The main conflict was revealed in a flashback basically, like we were told after the fact? And it kinda seemed to spring up out of nowhere, both for Corbin and me the reader. Things are resolved, but it just felt...muddy.

Overall, a fun and sweet story, the chemistry between Jack and Corbin was great, and I really enjoyed it.

Huh, I would have never in a million years expected the Brother to get a story but I am so glad! What he went through in the last book and how is ex-wife behaved, well, he deserved a second chance and love, love, love!

Very well done ending to this series. I really enjoyed the length of the friendship, the awakening or acknowledging and really, just all the love.

Good stuff.
