The Alien Prince's Secret Baby

Rate this book
I’m having an alien warrior's baby...

Draix rescued me after I was abducted and forced into slavery. I shouldn't have fallen for him. He's an alien, for one, and two he's the Prince of the Drihlai.

We shouldn't be together, not by any twist of fate, but why not have a fling? It won't hurt, right?

When he was called to lead the fight against the Chaluts, there was no question that he would go. He's the Prince and one of the greatest warriors they have. I never expected to see him again.

But the war is over and he's back. Now he's not just the Prince, he's about to be crowned King and marry a Chalut Princess for political alliances. He and I are worlds apart and have no place together.

Except he's found me and won't stay away. If he's around for too long he'll figure out my secret, our child. We could send the entire planet into a new civil war.

Wow So I'm struggling with this rating. Its either 2 or 3 stars. I liked this book for the most part, until the end. There were quite a few things that annoyed me, but I was able to overlook them because I figured the ending would be so worth it. But I found the ending to be very unsatisfying, which made all the other things that annoyed me, suddenly worse.

So in order to explain why I was so unsatisfied I basically have to give a run down of the book. So spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

So, no. The inconsistencies in this book just got to be way too much. I know this review is long, but I felt as though I needed a complete run down to understand how frustrated I was with this ending. The whole conflict between H and h stemmed from the fact that his people wouldn't accept commoner blood on the throne, and yet the solution to their problems end up being a half royal with commoner blood on the throne that marries a commoner. His stupid people would rather have a halfblooded royal rule them with his commoner wife, then have a full blooded royal rule them with his commoner/alien wife. Makes no sense.

Ugh okay, I'm done. I don't want to think about this book anymore.

This is a fantastic story! I couldn' put it down. I love reading anything by this author.

Emily has been kidnapped when she was rescued by Prince Draix. She is kept hidden from his people at first. They soon become very close. When war breaks out, he must go lead the troops. She kept her pregnancy hidden from him. When he comes back, he is surprised to discover his son. Will they work everything out?

Simply told tale of complex loyalties and fated love

At first the straightforward and simple style of Miranda Martin's Alien Prince's Secret Baby put me off. I'm not a YA fan, and that's how it read - at first. Reading further proved that simple sentences and straightforward narrative belied the tangled and multi-layered tale of a human woman saved from alien slavers by a Prince of the planet Drihlai. Lacking the ability to send her back to her home, her takes her to his. But he's the crown prince, and scheduled for an arranged dynastic marriage to someone of royal blood. When they fall in love, and she bears him a son, they face the condemnation of his entire planet, and his royal parents most of all. Desperatedly in love, they agree to live for today and face the gloomy future when it happens. And, of course, it happens sooner rather than later. It is a long and bittersweet journey for both, before each can resolve their own personal balance of love and duty, before each can understand and forgive the other's choices, and before they can prioritize the son they both love and the home they all need. Supporting characters are wonderfully written into the ongoing drama, and play pivotal roles in the resolution of the situation. Sacrifices must be made before HEA results, but the book ends on a positive note. In the end, I was really moved by the powerful truths behind this simple story. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Pass. Look, I'm all for suspension of disbelief, it's part and parcel of reading PNR/UF/SF and I'm cool with it, but this story was a hodgepodge of plot point driven writing that didn't make sense even in its own 'verse. Now, if there's chemistry between the MCs and the romance works, I can forgive alot but there's no chemistry between Draix and whatsherface aka Emily Madison (yes I blanked on her name for a hot minute, and I don't know why because Draix said ALL OF IT, it ALL THE TIME, like a Tribe Called Quest he had to say the whole thing. By the end I just wondered why half of the twists and turns even happened. Ms. Martin has done better, but this isn't it, so I would skip this.

This has some annoying hertero-ness and gender role bull shit. I also had to swallow quite a hefty serving of disbelief for that what if machine, and then it never came up again.

There was, however, lovely symmetry in the bathroom scenes, and while I knew an HEA was coming, the ride to get there kept me guessing the whole time. I do also feel like Emily was the driving force behind the story, and that has been a refreshing change.

I gotta give it three stars though because I was just really skimming the last quarter or more of the book as the dialogue became too cheesy for me.

Skip this one *spoilers ahead*

I really enjoy Miranda Martin’s books but I actually had to force myself to finish reading this.

The story starts with Emily being captured and then rescued by Draix. Literally only a few pages to get through this setup. She’s then with him on his planet and they grow closer, start to fall in love, etc.

One morning she gets up and starts throwing up. She suspects she may impossibly pregnant with an alien’s baby. That same moment that she thinks she’s pregnant (it’s not confirmed in any way), alarms blare and Draix has to go off to war. Fast forward five years, Emily has had a little boy and Draix comes back from winning the war.

What follows this is the most ridiculous put together work. (I honestly believe Miranda Martin was rushing this one). When Draix finds out about his son, he repeatedly berates Emily for lying to him. Not once did the author have Emily explain to Draix that she had woken up that day suspecting she may be pregnant. No, the author runs with this ridiculous “I kept it secret to save the planet”. Both Draix and Emily continue to be hot and cold with each other. Their relationship is completely unhealthy and disfunctional.

Draix is constantly going on about his duty to his planet. He is a prince who becomes king and is required to only marry another royal. He is forever telling Emily that their relationship will end because he will have to marry soon. He can’t even claim his own child. When he initially meets his future princess bride to be, said princess is upset because she wanted to marry for love. Then all of a sudden, that same princess becomes overjoyed to marry him and is talking about having babies and making a life with him.

Draix put down Emily at every turn in order to do what’s right for his planet but then when he’s about to get married he suddenly can’t be with anyone but Emily. The planet he sacrificed so much for then turns on him, beats him and imprisons him. Let’s also not forget that between all this, he finds out his father had a secret son who he did know he was raised with. That secret brother then becomes king and then everyone gets a HEA ending.

This story is a mish mash of disjointed ideas put together to try to create a romantic story but it falls so short it’s laughable. Miranda Martin has done so much better. Skip this one, it’s not worth it.

This novel was poorly written, with at least several wrong word choices or typos per page. The sentence structure also tended to be very awkward. The characterization was indifferent, with me not getting a good feel for either the hero or heroine as distinct, vibrant individuals. The plotting was also very strangely put together. The imprisonment of the hero for refusing to marry the Chalut princess was a bizarre choice, and the speed with which the hero's father went from saying his son was a traitor to asking for forgiveness and a hug in the same paragraph gave me whiplash. The hero also immediately forgiving his father for having him imprisoned and tortured was totally unrealistic. When the hero crash-landed on Earth, the fact that he is immediately rescued by a commercial fisherwoman who knows all about aliens when most people on on Earth did not, and she dropped everything to help the hero find the heroine for months at a time was also very weird and unbelievable. The whole plot of this novel was like that, though. The world building of the intergalactic civilization and alien world was also subpar. In the best sci-fi romances, the alien world or galactic civilization should be a character in itself, vividly described and richly drawn. This novel fails to do that in spectacular fashion.

Emily Madison was on her 4th exploration in space, investigating plants and wildlife. She was on the planet and examining a plant with teeth when Marcus asked her to come back to the ship. He was seeing something odd. As the two of them looked at the monitor and realized their communication line was being jammed, they scrambled to escape. But a red ray struck Marcus in the head and he melted in a puddle of blood on the floor. A green light came next, struck her head, and everything went black.

Emily woke in a dark room on a cold, metal slab. She was unable to move. Creatures that looked somewhat like frogs licked her, and it burned her skin like acid. Then suddenly she heard a strange sound and the head of one of the creatures rolled on the floor. A huge blue alien stood there and identified himself as Draix, Prince of the Drihlai. Then she passed out again.

Emily is asked to help Draix work on their translators and, as they get to know each other, they begin to fall in love and started a relationship they kept hidden. When he is called to battle against the Chaluts, because he is their strongest and best warrior, he leaves her to fight in the war.

When Draix finally returns, he is about to be crowned King and must marry a Chalut Princess in a political alliance for the good of their worlds. But that is not who he wants to marry. And Emily has a secret that may cause a major disruption. Is there a HEA for them? Or will they lose each other to Draix’s royal obligations?

I absolutely loved this delightful story of destined across-the-galaxies lovers between an alien, Draix, and a human, Emily. They meet unexpectedly when Emily was kidnapped by aliens who sought to enslave her. Draix rescues Emily and bring her to his home planet since Earth is many galaxies away. After spending much time with Draix who is also the Prince of the planet, they both fall in love. However their love will never see the light of day because as Prince he is required to marry into a royal family, much like his. Their passionate lovemaking results in Emily's pregnancy but before she can share or even confirm the news, there is a call to war and Draix must go and fight to defend his home planet and the safety of his people. When Draix returns to his planet he finds that while much has changed while he was away fighting, their love for each other remains. But misunderstandings and expectations that Draix must fulfill as the future king, cause a divide that threaten to tear them apart. They must face the hard decision to put the well being of an entire planet before their love which leads to heartbreaking consequences. Once again Miranda Martin does a spectacular job in creating a wonderful world where the alien is the human and love knows no boundary.

Interesting. Emily, space explorer suffered a personal tragedy when she was a child that handicapped her with heavy baggage and trust issues. She was on a mission with Marcus, when their ship is attacked. Marcus didn't seem very space savvy. He is killed, she is kidnapped by the Chaluts as a potential slave. Then rescued by Prince Draix of Drihlai. She helps Draix with the language translation They fall for each other and indulge in a forbidden relationship until war breaks out with the Chaluts and Draix goes off to fight. 5 years later, she has a 5 year old son, Draix Jr who was able to physically shift his eyes from human to Drihlaian. She emotionally buried Draix since she hasn't heard from him in all that time. One day, she hears from her friend Maxera that the war is over and the warriors are returning home. Draix among them. Will they reunite? Will she tell Draix about Draix Jr? Will their relationship still be unfathonable as it was 5 years ago? Are the Chaluts truly vanquished? Nice story. A few unexpected outcomes. Everyone is not whom they seem. Characters were nice. Maggie is a hoot! I hope we hear more from her. I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Emily is on her fourth space exploration when things go wrong. She ends up kidnapped by Chaluts for slavery. However before they get far with her she is rescue by a warrior prince called Draix. Draix is intrigued by Emily and her culture. When she awakens and finds its the same warrior that save her that she's with she has some relief. Sparks fly between her and Draix and they end up being together. Yet when war breaks out and he must fight to keep his people safe she doesn't tell him that she is pregnant because she knows that he would stay with her instead of fighting. Now years later he is back and wants to reclaim the life he wants with Emily. What will he do once he learns she had his child? Can the be together?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Life, love and the pursuit of happines for a Prince in love.
by sewsummore

Emily had been captured by aliens only to be saved by the Royal Prince of Drihlai. Draix was happy he was able to save her and bought herhome to the roal palace where they worked on improving their translating device. Soon the friends became lovers despite there was no possiblity of them ever being able to marry since Draix could only marry another royal person. Their romance was doomed to fail and when she found iherself pregnant she sent Draix away to war without telling him her news. Five years later, the war was over and he returned only to find she had lied to him. This was a romance full of angst as two lovers have to overcome distance apart and his role as Prince meant he would not ever be able to clain his son. The story ends happily but there is alot of pain for them both before they can be truelly happy at last.

My heart for my kingdom, is that legal? Not sure about this book. This was really good at explaining a whole bunch of stuff about the kingdom Royal Blood half breed no breed culture holy complicated mess Batman what are we going to do? Emily Madison from earth is during research when there is problems in the star system. She sees her companion who was working with her killed and she is kidnapped. Then rescued. From there everything just goes wonky and absolutely bonkers. You fall in love you do what you think is right and sacrifice, sacrifice, sacrifice and sacrifice. But is the sacrifice justified? well eventually and HEA is well on its way, along with a little bit of adventure and try to figure out how much royal blood really means to those who have it. Excellent read recommended you’re ready for a tearjerker folks it is absolutely worth the time.

This book was heavy in the most delightful way! There was drama, intrigue, and most importantly, love. It sucked me in from the beginning and would not let me go. As you read you get the Romeo and Juliet vibe, because of the whole star crossed lovers thing. But you still cannot help but cheering for them and hoping for some way it can work out. Emily and Draix were some very complex characters with complex emotions. I really felt for them while learning more about them. The whole book itself had a very nice flow to it, and added in just the right amount of drama. This was a stay up way too late to finish it book. You have been warned!

I liked this book. Although a five year war with only a few casualties seemed unrealistic, the romance between the two main characters fit the bill. I enjoyed reading how they came back together after their separation (due to the war). These were characters with which I could empathize. Many times in life we struggle with what we would prefer but are held back by duty and honor and the idea that what we most want might not be what is best for someone we love. I received an advanced reader copy but I am not affiliated with the author in any way and my review is strictly my own opinion.

I am a big fan of the author's Dragons of Tjass series and while I liked this book the writing isn't up to the standard of the writing in the dragon series.

Emily was kidnapped by space aliens and then rescued by another. Draix rescues the human Emily and takes her back to his planet to learn more about her. They become involved with each other and surprisingly she ends up pregnant which is not suppose to happen. Draix doesn't know that she is pregnant and goes off to war. She is the only thing that kept him alive. When he returns he is upset that Emily doesn't want to keep seeing him. He is even more surprised when he finds that she gave birth to his son. Draix is a prince and can only be with someone of royal blood. He doesn't want anyone but Emily and the son she gave him. What happens when his parents try to force him to marry another? A must read.

*Spoilers*
I may be the odd one out here, but I found this book a bit disappointing. I should say that I love Miranda Martins Red Planet Dragons of Tajss series which was why I was keen to read this one, however I found the characters lacked depth and the dialogue was sometimes stilted. There were several moments where the story didn’t flow well for me such as it seemed bizarre that Draix was so severely punished for refusing to marry for his country, tortured, and disowned by his parents only to be welcomed with open arms in the next moment. Overall a bit of miss and I struggled to finish it.

Very long & detailed account of two star-crossed characters from different planets falling in love, even though it is forbidden. Action-packed and very steamy story. This is kind of sad though & even takes a turn to the dark side, which was unexpected and shocking for me. I really like both characters although I didn't agree with the customs of his planet, I'm convinced that they are soulmates. I wish they had more together as a couple, more happy moments and less battle for the right to be together without consequences. This was an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The story and characters grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. I loved Draix and Emily and watching them grow together, they were well written and went well together. It's an action packed steamy alien romance with a hot alpha male and the woman he loves, they had me cheering for them. I found this book amazing with great word building making me feel apart of the story and watching it unfold in front of me. A definite must read for any fan and I can't wait to read more from this author!!!

Emily loves working on alien planets, cataloguing the types of life she finds there. One day she ends up attacked by unknown aliens and then rescued by another, Prince Draix. Draix takes Emily to his home planet and she works with him to perfect a translator. The two fall in love, but as a royal, Draix can only marry another of his kind. Then Draix is called away to lead the war against the same people who originally attacked Emily. Draix and Emily need to navigate their relationship through an entire planet’s rules and expectations as well as a war. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.

An alien romance that will have you in a rollercoaster of emotions. Emily is a human woman who is part of the space program. It seems humans have finally made it to other planets and Emily is studying the plants and animals. What she didn’t expect is to be kidnapped by some frog looking aliens. But that leads to Draix, an alien prince who happens to be in the right place and time to save her. Their story should of been simple. Save girl, fall in love and live happily ever after. But when politics and an alien culture get involved none of that is possible. So expect quite a few twists and emotional moments as love isn’t always easy.

Emily was saved from the aliens that had captured her by Prince Draix they started a secret relationship until he was called off to war.  Years later at his return he must except the crown and a wife but his heart still belongs to Emily.  Even having read a few of her novels and knowing that she write HEA endings I could not see how Draix could get out of his responsibilities that come with his royal role and be able to claim the only woman he has ever loved. But happily I can tell you that by surprising means love won the day.  I was given this as an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

It was a well written read with alot going on. It had drama, intrigue, action, and some steam. But I didn't like how the drama was unfolding why wait till the day of the wedding to realize that you cant stand to see him with another woman, and then he decides at that moment that he cant marry the woman that he doesnt love. It was just too much for me, but I did love when he left to go find Emily. It was a good ending.

This well written book is part of an Alien Romance series and was delightful and full of drama, intrigue, and most importantly, love. The story pulled me infrom the beginning as it was a forbidden romance, but had few areas that did bother me about his prison sentence and friend doing same thing. This is an emotional tale as there is a lot of drama and heartache. For the most part the book flowed nicely. A good read

Draix rescues Emily from slavery and they have a great connection but he’s an alien warrior and she’s human. Still she ends up on his planet but he is soon called up to war. She sends him away without telling him she’s pregnant. Five years later he returns and she can’t hide the truth from him. But he is the crown prince and is destined to marry for political gain.

I wasn’t as happy with this as I’ve been with some of the other stories by this author. I found it a bit “simplified” how their relationship was handled. Still ends in an HEA. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

Emily wakes up from being abducted with one of the aliens tasting her arm. Not a good sign. Fortunately, she is rescued by Draix, the Prince of Drihla. They begin to fall in love but war breaks out. Emily doesn't tell him she is pregnant before he leaves, and it's five years before she sees him again.

This is a complicated story of Drihla society's ways and how the couple overcomes the obstacles. As I said in the title, it's good but not one of Miranda's best.
