QuickRead.com presents a summary of We Are The Weather by Jonathan Safran Foer
Description
In We Are The Weather, Jonathan Safran Foer discusses the similarities between climate change and World War II. Similar to the sacrifices Americans made in the days we fought against the axis powers, it’s time to make a sacrifice in the fight against global warming. We are fighting a losing battle, but saving the planet can begin at breakfast. Foer introduces the idea that changing our diet can save the Earth. With animal industry farms making up 24% of harmful greenhouse gas emissions right behind fossil fuel emissions, you can begin to do your part by reducing your consumption of animal products and reducing your carbon footprint significantly. The war can only be won if everyone does their part, our planet needs both big and small sacrifices to survive, so take a small step in saving the planet and end the fight with global warming.
He eats animal products but faces the cold, hard reality—hot on average, cold on the worst days, stormy reality, to cope with humor for a not-funny, serious issue! If you live in a place where central heating, 20-30 artificial resources in addition to central heating if you are cold, + central cooling, are all commonplace, people casually about climate change—as in how this creates a low “emotional tolerance” for less than a degree (Fahrenheit) change in your own temperature, probably.
That is nothing compared to the Earth…the Earth has a literal fever, to put it in an analogy! Earth can only tolerate a minor change, just like most mammals, especially pets that are evolved for comfort, or even some reptiles if they are pet lizard species that are evolved to be domesticated, can only tolerate a minor change. Pets, or even hardier, wild animals, won’t deal safely.
Your dog, if you own one, probably can’t tolerate heat as well as you…depending on the breed…can you imagine getting hot just looking at your dog, like on a summer dog walk, six months a year? Can you imagine *actually* not putting up with any day in summer/the worst days in winter—I’m talking about literally, not just psychologically! Can you imagine wildfires as the norm everywhere, which is pretty close to how it already is? The weather I’m mentioning, is coming extremely soon, in the Midwest USA. The fact that we are “spoiled” with comfort, and cannot handle a perfectly safe temperature for us (psychologically), is American, and maybe a few other countries. Can you picture not being safe, though, or risking it all the time? Yikes! If this is already how it is for you, virtual hugs; I hope you are okay!!!
