The Highly Sensitive Brain is the first handbook to cover the science, measurement, and clinical discussion of sensory processing sensitivity (SPS), a trait associated with enhanced responsivity, awareness, depth-of-processing and attunement to the environment and other individuals. Grounded in theoretical models of high sensitivity, this volume discusses the assessment of SPS in children and adults, as well as its health and social outcomes. This edition also synthesizes up-to-date research on the biological mechanisms associated with high sensitivity, such as its neural and genetic basis. It also discusses clinical issues related to SPS and seemingly-related disorders such as misophonia, a hyper-sensitivity to specific sounds. In addition, to practical assessment of SPS embedded throughout this volume is discussion of the biological basis of SPS, exploring why this trait exists and persists in humans and other species. The Highly Sensitive Brain is a useful handbook and may be of special interest to clinicians, physicians, health-care workers, educators, and researchers.
Concisely summarises all the research on SPS there is (which is not all that much). It's often repetitive and really could've benefited from some more rigorous editing, but it provides an excellent overview of the trait and offers plenty suggestions for further research.
I was told I am a hsp, however, I do not believe in this label, in fact I think it's incorrect, as even covert psychopaths and fraudsters now use this label. I think it's just fraudulent and flawed research. If even psychopaths are now being included in the list and claim to be, then, I don't think this is an appropriate label for me. Maybe it's really a way for bad people to con good people, just a manipulative tactic, but absolutely, everyone is different, and labels make no sense in life. I do not associate and want nothing to do with psychopaths. I mean, the man has killed and tried to kill others, and they call him hsp, I'm nothing like that, so I refuse this label. If the HSP can recognize psychopaths, then how did they not recognize a psychopath? It just makes no sense. I think some people are just emotionally and intellectually intelligent, but I don't think that it's because they are "highly sensitive", so I finally agree with Sam Vaknin. It's all a con.
és repetitiu i té cosetes, però és el millor material que he trobat sobre el tema (molt necessari) i els suggeriments de l'autora deixen entreveure una mirada tan perspicaç que, per ser el tipus de llibre que és, cinc estrelles
Factually correct, but could have started out with some helpful ways to halt a panic attack. It's two hours long, and I'm a 1/2 hour into the book and feeling a little more hopeless.
