Everything’s been quiet in the bayou town of Jeanerette, Louisiana for years. The last big news was when those rich people burned to death at their plantation in 2003. Most people have forgotten the details, but no one can forget Amelia House, the beautiful old home on Bayou Teche where the Morisset family lived.Craig Morisset grew up in Jeanerette and started a company when he was in college. He sold it for almost a billion dollars and became the town’s most talked-about product. When his parents died in the fire, he never returned and didn’t even afford them a funeral. Instead, he ordered Amelia House shuttered. Since then, only the occasional caretaker goes inside, and they make sure to be out before nightfall. For years people have whispered about the awful things Craig’s parents did in the name of science, and some brave teenagers who went up to the house after dark reported ghostly wails coming from somewhere on the upper floors. Famous ghost hunter Landry Drake comes home to Jeanerette to interview Craig, who is in town for a class reunion. Craig regrets coming back and when a hurricane heads their way, he makes a fatal mistake. Since they have no place to stay, he invites three classmates and Landry to spend a night inside Amelia House. The mansion may have been closed up for years, but Craig’s mother and father have patiently waited to resume their life’s work. The operating room’s all prepared; all they need is a patient. When Craig and his friends arrive, they can at last resume the experiments.
If variety is the spice of life, author Bill Thompson’s life so far has been spicy for sure! Over the years, and in no particular order, he’s been
• an international insurance broker • a mayor • head of a state prison board • a stockbroker • a newspaper reporter • a Bourbon Street piano player • a corporate entrepreneur • presented to Queen Elizabeth • in jail (briefly … and wrongly!) • a goat herder • a church organist and choir member • a real estate broker • a world traveler • president of an animal shelter • a husband, father and grandfather • an observer at a knighting in Westminster • a fluent Russian speaker • a passenger on the Concorde • a caregiver • a lifetime dog lover • an award-winning novelist
The Experiments by Bill Thompson takes the reader on another great trip with the ghost hunter, although he is on a different assignment. But he ends up finding a costly adventure along the way and boy is it a good one! Lots of secrets around a millionaire, a mansion, and spooky locked rooms. Don't miss this during October! Kept me reading and curious!
I am addicted to this series! I love following the progress of Landry Drake as he goes along his Bayou Hauntings investigations. I am amazed at how this author is able to blend what I feel like would be cheesy if I was watching it as a movie but I find it totally effective in his story telling. And I find Landry to be a believable character. He is curious but also gets scared with his encounters. But it does not stop him from doing crazy things anyway.
The Experiments is another good read from The Bayou Hauntings series. We have an enigmatic billionaire, a mansion with locked rooms, an old rich family known to do experiments but never proven, an unknown existence of certain family members, and so many secrets! It's great to join Landry as he discovers all these with the help of Cate and his friends from the force.
This an interesting read and I rate it between very good and excellent. Yet, I didn't find it as capturing (no pun intended) as the first four Bayou Hauntings. For me the meat of the story took a few pages too long to get started. Overall, Bill Thompson has a wonderfully eerie imagination and deserves to be seated at the table with Dean Koontz and Stephen King.
These books are fascinating. I’ve read many scary books, but these were the first I had to put down and walk away from for a while. They stir every human fear. Despite the evil happening, Landry and Cate display the very best in humanity.
The Willies BIG TIME!!!!! This is the 5 th book of the Bayou Hauntings. For the first time in a long time, I had to put the book away and calm my heart and mind as well as my imagination! It is a very well written book with a variety of twists and turns!! This book will not disappoint!
Another great read, I really love this series it never disappoints. The stories are not to long or too short and it grabs my attention with in the first few pages .
I'm so happy I found this author. Every book so far in the Bayou Haunting Series has been awesome, The Experiments included! I loved it! Great characters, great story line, another book you just don't want to put down. I can't wait for more!
Another fantastic book to add to the series. I totally enjoyed the story line in this one and found it very hard to put down. Many intriguing twists and turns and great characters. I'm definitely looking forward to book #6.
I really like this series. Can't wait to see what the last book will be like. These can be read as stand alone as well. Great story. I couldn't wait to see what confession was next!
It was a real good read it in 2 nights before bedtime never had a nightmare. Seriously, I enjoyed the book very much. Liked the story line it was well thought out. Plan to read the rest of the series.
Everytime I read a Bayou Haunting book I think it's the best, until the next one. I love these books. Landry is my new favorite character. I hope Mr. Thompson has more coming in this series.
Omg, this book had my mind racing, my heart pumping. The shear astonishment I felt when all was revealed. Great job Bill Thompson! Keep writing I’ll keep reading!
Really good story. Creepy as heck, but I couldn’t put it down. A great addition to the Bayou Hauntings series. Would like to see more added to the series.
Love this series. I am hooked. What an interesting outcome. Each book in this series has so much edge of the seat, can't wait to find out what happens next.
What a surprise with this book, I enjoyed it very much, love paranormal and ghost hunting anyway, the the story fit that bill, kept me wanting to read more.
Ok if you like ghost stories. Strong sense of place (Louisiana) and believable characters (except main multi-millionaire guy but that is explained later).
