In a world where magic is outlawed and those of supernatural ancestry are ruthlessly persecuted, mutations of past evils flourish in secret. For Violet, a young woman of magical descent, secrets are part of life. Tucked away in a small village, she slogs through her mundane days, hoping that no one will discover the she is one of the last of her race. But soon, Violet learns that her people could still be alive—forced into exile on the high mountains and faraway islands of her world. Unaware of the consequences or magnitude of what awaits, she embarks on a quest for answers—and an authentic life. As Violet travels, she finds that the road ahead is veiled with bloodshed and tales of monsters long since dead, of magical children gone without a trace, and recurring dreams of a strange boy that she has never seen before. Numerous obstacles litter her path to truth—like thorns beneath her feet. With all she set out to do going up in smoke, Violet must confront both internal and external forces—the paralyzing expectations of others, the haunting truths about her own identity, and the most daunting of the evil creatures imprisoning her kin.
Bella Price is a 2019 debut author. Her first novel, “Finding Violet” is taking the market by storm for its ingenuity, dark fantasy flavor, and clever address of serious (but often overlooked) subjects.
I’m not generally a fantasy fiction fan, however, I am glad I took the time to read this book. Price did an excellent job putting a realistic spin on this tale and I was left wanting to know what happened next. The story was well balanced between fantasy and real life human emotion and relatable situations. Well done.
I have known this author since the day she was born, this is an amazing book, loved it and love you. You have grown into a beautiful young lady and so talented. Proud of you, Deb N.
