Wicked Witches of the Midwest #15

Witchin' Around the Clock

Rate this book
Witches are descending on Hemlock Cove and the town is gearing up for mayhem. Bay Winchester is ready to cover the event for her newspaper, and is excited to see faces she hasn't interacted with in more than a decade.

Then the unthinkable happens.

The local blacksmith shop catches fire and Bay and her cousin Thistle risk death to try and rescue the owner. Unfortunately, they're too late, and the man is unable to be resuscitated. Not only that, but it wasn't the fire that killed him. No, he was murdered.

Bay can't shake the feeling that something bad is about to happen. Harbingers of the feathered variety are filling the sky... and threatening attack. Dark magic is at work, and someone is plotting multiple deaths.

It's up to Bay and her family to save the day, and they have to do it before cousin Clove gets married on the summer solstice. It's a big day for the family, and a big moment for Bay. She's the center of attention as the clock ticks down, the weight of the world on her shoulders.

The Winchesters won't sit back and wait for a fight to come to them, they'll go after the fight... and this is no exception. As death comes calling, they will answer.

Sit back and enjoy the ride. Love, marriage, death, and destruction are about to collide. You won't want to miss a thing.

I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.

Amanda M Lee has done it again! She is really a very talented author and I adore her books!
Bay, Clove and Thistle are holding a secret together for Clove. Clove is pregnant and its almost her wedding day so the three cousins are hoping to keep it a secret until then! On top of this Aunt Tillie has visited Amazon's website and bought herself a scooter to terrorize Miss Little and now she has a hulk cape to go along with it! Then on top of all of that they are preparing for the witches coming in from different areas!
Then the local blacksmith shop catches fire and when Bay and Thistle run into the burning flames to save the owner, they find him dead and he didn't die from the fire! So along with everything going on a murder, a wedding, a gathering of the witches, and Aunt Tillie things are kinda crazy for Bay and her cousins!
I loved this book and Im already working on the next installment! Such a great series!

Witchy Good!!!!!!

I love this series. It's always a good mystery, and has the love stories , and the family interaction is awesome. I would like to see some nicer behavior between all the rest of thev family and Aunt Tillie. I'm so happy Chief Terry and Winnie are finally together, thank you! I'm also super excited Clove is pregnant , and there was talk of the future of the family. I so hope the series goes on with the family raising their children . I do think they Bay, Thistle , and Clove need to ask the Aunt's to teach them all the magic they can. It just seems to be calling for it. Aunt Tillie is awesome why would they not want to learn everything she knows , and from their mothers too. Sorry this is so long. Love the series. Thank you!!!!!

Ruined this series

I remember why I stopped reading these books, its too much between Bay and boyfriend. It goes on page after page. He's almost abusive. His character killed these books for me. Great characters, strong women until that. I just skip the pages, its too much. I hope you didn't grow up, or are in a relationship like that because its horrible and so difficult to read.

4.5 Stars... Buildings are burning, a murder has occurred, ghosts are coming out of the woodwork, witches are descending, a new baby is on the way, and a wedding is approaching... No problem, right??? Bay is on the case along with her boyfriend, Landon and the rest of the Winchester witches... The past rears it's ugly head as dark magic begins to present itself in Hemlock Cove... Bay must use all her new found power to stop this evil before it comes for those she loves most... With all the snark that these witches can manifest, we are once again presented with a captivating mystery that surprises readers to the very end... These characters never cease to make me smile and laugh out loud... I truly enjoy every moment spent in Hemlock Cove:)

Disappointed

I think I mentioned in my last review that the characters bickering so much was juvenile and annoying. Well, nothing has changed. I get that character have personality, but I feel like the author takes one thing and then harps on it to death. Like the bacon thing with Landon. It’s just too much. Everyone treated Bay like she was a 7 year old girl instead of a grown woman. I was down right annoyed with this book then disappointed when the obvious answer was discovered so late. I think it’s time for me to give up these series.

Awesome series!

If you like romance, crime and comedy this will hit all at once. I Don't review books normally, I read a lot of books near a thousand a year. So I don't take the time. Very few books keep me going through 15 but this did. Very entertaining.

Landon is too much

I would legit give every book more stars if Landon didn’t exist. He wants to marry a woman he treats like a child. He’s awful. I have never wanted to punch a fictional character in the face but I do now. What a joke.

enough bacon

These tales are often very good, but some more character development is needed. It’s time to move the bacon obsession to a back burner. Landon needs to develop more of a backbone, he’s an FBI agent, for Goddess sake.

good, but underwhelming

A wedding, and a coven of witches. There was so much potential here, but much of it was never realized. I want more interaction with the other witches, and I wanted details of the wedding. For the last few books, I have felt that there was unrealized potential. I like the idea of the therapist in town, but that was short-lived, and I liked another powerful witch in town, but that was short-lived, too. The author has good ideas, but she doesn’t bring them to fruition. Also, there were a lot of references to one of the fantasy books that I haven’t read yet because I don’t know where, in the sequence of these books, they fit in. I also, for whatever reason, don’t like those books as well. There’s just something kind of off about them. I know I need to read them, but it’ll be more of a chore than a pleasure.

Engaging

Bay (and this series) has been steadily improving for this reader. She's really owning her power and not allowing well-meant concerns to sway her. The snark factor is kept to a manageable level, and the deep love between the Winchesters that is usually camouflaged under everyday foolery is showcased here. Another family's dysfunction is at the root of the murder and mayhem, and untangling truth from lies from misdirection provides an interesting read. The attention given to the wedding is surprising but ultimately a good editing decision since Clove and Sam add little to the series (the only character more negligible is Marcus but I like him much more!). As for the ending... At last!!

This is one of my favorite series even though it has a rather large number of continuing characters. The book starts18 years in the past when the parents were trying to give the girls the 'sex talk' which they didn't really want to hear. This relates to what happened to Clove years later.

The story takes place a few days (in the present) before Clove's marriage. Crows are behaving strangely and it's determined that they are harbingers. Something very, very is going to happen.

And it does. A building blows up and catches fire with one person dead. An interesting discovery is made, though, and this sets up for a murderer. That's after two of the trio risk their lives to see if they could save the guy in the building.

Bay's powers seem to keep growing. Harbingers keep flying and attacking. A home gets broken into. A whole coven is coming to town for a celebration. Aunt Tillie has gotten a scooter. Viola, the ghost at the newspaper that Bay owns, proves her gossip abilities. A lot going on and it makes for another really good read from this author.

One down, two to go!

Clove's dream is coming true. She and Sam are getting married. It's all about their wedding. Well, not All about her wedding. She is a Winchester after all. Nothing is ever that easy with her family, or their town.
Clove has a little secret she wants to keep until after the wedding; there is a murder; (Bay and Thistle almost die trying to save the victim), and there is a long overdue witches coven convening at The Overlook.
All of this, and Aunt Winnie...and what the heck is up with all those birds?!
Just read the series. You'll love the stories, and the Winchesters!

Really good reads, but.....

I really enjoyed reading this series. The humor, sarcasm and the twist and turn of the plot always keeps me want to finished the whole story at once.
I really enjoyed this author's work. While I was reading this book I noticed some things that raised some questions. On chapter 26, Aunt Tillie said Marnie, instead of Winnie, as Bay's mom. It also happened in chapter 28 when Diane wants to have a fight with Bay's mom. She mentioned Marnie instead of Winnie as well. So my question is, did the author got the names mixed up? Or is she really referring to Marnie instead of Winnie? But why would Aunt Tillie and Diane mentioned Winnie instead?

Distubed

I loved these books. The direction they seem to be heading is not where I want to go. I loved that there was a healthy fear of Aunt Tillie. It was way more fun. Now she sits in the car while Bay handles things? More and more it seems she just threatens, is constantly disrespected and Bay is more and more the most perfect strongest and the greatest of everyone. I get she is the main character but being a good person should not have to be stated repeatedly by everyone constantly. And totally perfect is getting old. Kinda bummed.

For the birds

As usual, but sat that to appreciate these guys is to start with book one.
They do build on each other.
I started reading the next book in the series by accident, and when I realized, went back to get this one.
Now I can read the next one. Do you get that.
It took me to the last page or so to realize why Landon was being clingy. Nice set up there Amanda.
Bay is going to be the head witch in this bunch, she just doesn’t know it yet.
I would like to know what happened to Adam though.

O. M. G. This family! Witches, ghosts, a bunch of women living together (because that’s always a good idea), granny running around in helmet and inappropriate leggings hexing people. I just can’t put these books down. I’ve read the whole series and am getting ready to start over. I like Amanda M. Lee in general for the snark level and fun characters. You can be guaranteed that if you like funny hijinks, hunky guys, quirky families and paranormal settings, Ms. Lee will be a solid choice every time. P.S. She also writes as Lily Harper Hart and her Harper Harlow Series is hysterical.

Love these witches

I have read all of the books in this series. I absolutely love these witches. The humor in these books is so good. I love anything with humor but I fell in love with this series with the first one I read. I absolutely recommend this author. Her stories are thrilling and the mysteries hard to figure out. So if you love witchy things and like a good mystery you can’t go wrong with these books.

Birds of Prey

There is always something crazy going on in their little town. When you add more witches into the mix, it gets even wilder.

Bay is my favorite character in the series. She and Landon are such a funny couple. With his bacon addiction and love in full evidence, they are going stronger than ever.

I highly recommend the series. Each book is just so much fun to read. I’m really looking forward to the next book based on the ending.

Book 15

FYI- Crows are "opportunists" scavengers.

After a decade, the Outlook is hosting another witch gathering. Hundreds of witches are descending on the town. Before it can kick off the local blacksmith is killed in his shop, Bay and Thistle try to rescue him and almost end up dying themselves. They of course are trying to solve that mystery before Cloves Wedding and keep a secret!

Ooh, good Halloween vibes.

Things are heating up when Tillie invites the wider covens to congregate in Hemlock Cove and it just happens to coincide with a tragic fire that claimed the life of the local blacksmith. If that wasn’t hinky enough, Bay keeps seeing the harbingers (a flock of birds) before each new tragedy. So not only is Bay hunting a killer, but she’s trying to keep Clove’s secret and steer clear of Hazel… oh, and Aunt Tillie has a scooter 🛵.

I really love the Wicked Witch series, but I wish Amanda M Lee would mix things up a bit at times. Landon is an FBI agent but he isn't utilised at all, whereas Bay makes one idiotic decision after the other. I really hope for many more books as I love the world that Lee created and can't wait to see how the characters develop, but sometimes I wish she would invest more time in each book.

Another Fantastic Read in this World

Ah, Clove is getting married, and trying to hide her pregnancy from the Moms until after the vows are spoken. But, a murder happens just days before the wedding. Then another murder. Then a murder of crows, oh my. You will never believe who done it. Great book.

I highly recommend every one of these book in this series. I also recommend all of Amanda Lee's other books. It amazes me what a great writer she is, I envy her thought process.

A wedding

Cloves wedding was a nice change of pace. There was less Winchester craziness in this book than I would have expected though. I do think allowing the bad girl teenage witch to retain her powers was a mistake. She made bad adult choices and she’s old enough to suffer adult consequences.
