TW: Kidnapping, Abusive Behavior, Fight, Blood, Imprisonment, taken against will

This wasn't the worse book I have ever read (that place goes to Cursed Child), but this book was really not for me. I was curious on what the book would contain because it really seemed so exciting, but wasn't for me by a long shot. It took me 3 tries to get into this book, and I managed to finally sit down (after making a promise to myself: complete these requests before you do anything stupid).

Characters:
They were so flat it was just ridiculous, and the fact that I couldn't care about them one bit. The main character was literally, 'oh my god my dad is SO ABUSIVE. He locks me up, all because I SNUCK OUT. He's so evil. He doesn't UNDERSTAND ME.'  and then the whole special snowflake in the book.

This is Ella: Hi. I have long brown hair, my skin is abnormal hot, and I have a birthmark that gets treated as if it's cancer, but it's fine. My friends are totally so more important than anything, and my dad is so strict. Like he doesn't allow me to miss curfew, and i Have to text him. He doesn't understand.' And did I mention he is so totally abusive?

That is what I got from over 300 pages worth of this book, Ella is annoying. I don't even know her personality, because she is so defined by all this stuff.

The other characters like the side ones suffer from the same fate as Ella. They weren't developed, and I just didn't know them. I only knew what they do instead of their personalities, especially Ella's friends who show up quite a bit, but they were so flat. It wasn't funny.

Plot:
The plot was really the main focus on the book. I really don't mind that, besides that I had absolutely no freaking clue on what was happening. All I knew there was a magic mirror involved, Ella had powers, and then a few pieces here and there, but nothing else.

The only thing I really liked was the ending and that was because it got super interesting.

Even though by like page 250, I was considering on DNFing it, because I just couldn't bring myself to really like anything. That's how much I couldn't even find anything, but I managed to finish it since I was practically about done, with like 70 pages left in the book.

Abusive Behavior:
Her dad is abusive, and I don't mean like hitting her, but all the signs. He locks her up in the room with deadbolts literally. He also displayed quite a bit of other abuse signs, and how it was considered normal?

Sorry but he is not a good dad. He just took things to the extreme instead of talking to his daughter who is sneaking out.

This is a brutal and dark tale of dystopian fantasy involving a dysfunctional parallel world set in another dimension. The teenage protagonists are all complex characters who you are never sure exactly which ones you should trust. The language is inventive and original. The only thing that will divide people on this book is the pacing. It is lightning fast and each chapter you know a lot will happen. Mostly this works really well, but I did occasionally wish for some slower build-up chapters for more variety. However the story held me engaged until the last page and I had no idea how it would end. Throughly recommended!

This is a great book! I often fall asleep while reading, but not with Behind the Mirror. It’s suspenseful and intriguing. The author has a real talent for keeping you engaged and towing the line between fantasy and reality. This book is fast paced and keeps you guessing. I am downloading other titles by Dr. Blossman without a doubt.

Ella was just an average ordinary girl with an overly protective father. She'd never been in a position to take things for granted. Not like her friend Finley, who had the best of everything money could buy. One day Ella and a group of friends were messing around, trying to hold a seance in front of the new gilded mirror in Finley's bedroom. But then Finley's annoying brother brought everything to a screeching halt just as Ella started to notice something very unusual about the mirror. And she couldn't be quite sure, but it seemed as though she may have drawn some sort of power from the priceless looking glass.

Behind the Mirror, by Dr. Bon Blossman, is a gripping tale that is sure to entrance young adult audiences. With a unique and suspenseful plot, this book will keep readers engaged clear through to the unpredictable finish. With mystery, intrigue, lots of twists, and a smattering of teen drama, this book is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval.
