Reborn in Flames

Rate this book
I have spent my entire life in the basement of my father’s church. My sadistic mother and god-fearing father believe I have the devil inside of me because I heal after their abuse. I’d accepted long ago I would die in the very place I’d been born without ever feeling the sun on my skin. Then one day, my mother took me from my father’s religious cult in the wake of his death. Nearly a week later, and after countless hours with her boyfriend Jed’s creepy remarks, I find myself in Washington State. I had only ever interacted with my parents and now Jed, so you can imagine my surprise when I ran smack dab into possibly the most handsome man in the world. He’s not alone though, there are intriguing and handsome men popping up everywhere in my life.

Except I shouldn’t be focusing on that. I should be preparing for my mother’s cruel hits. Preparing to run the minute I turn 18. Preparing to hide from Jed’s leering comments and uncomfortable stares. One interaction with this man and I feel like my entire life has been altered.

Five days until I turn 18. Five days until my mother realizes what happens when you keep a bird cooped up for too long, only to open its cage. Five days until I am out of here.

My problem? Everything inside of me tells me that those intriguing men are mine… and they seem to think the same.

This is a slow/medium burn fantasy RH that features a naive but strong MFC with a troubled past and a secret about what she really is. Come meet Maya and her protective and possessive dragon shifters! This book will be part of the Reborn series.

Warnings: Please be advised that the book contains darker themes such as child abuse, PTSD, swearing, and violence. Additionally, sexual themes are suitable for mature audiences +18. This book will end on a slight cliffhanger.

Surprise surprise, a reverse harem I didn't enjoy.

I think I've already read this book before. Hmm, let me think. Oh yes I have. Hunted.

The heroine has been sheltered her entire life because her cultish "parents" think she has a devil in her.

The heroine's father dies and her mother takes her somewhere else. Her mother beats her all the time to get the devil out.

The heroine runs into someone and is inhaling deep.

The hero being run into is also inhaling deep as he growls at her mother's boyfriend who's chastising her.

The heroine goes to school and runs into some more guys who are inhaling deeply and growling at anyone that comes close.

The heroine finds out that the guys are "brother" and they are not entirely human.

The heroes are shocked that she's their mate after all the inhaling but they don't know how that can be since she's just a human.

The heroi.....I give up. Nothing happens, just more growling and then some twist in the end which wasn't really a twist. I am not reading the second one but I can already see the "specialness" our heroine is about to have.

There is a glitch in the matrix

I’ve read this before

If you take this book Hunted and this series Finding My Pack and this one Born of Embers oh and this one Bound Spirit...and probably 20 others I've forgotten...
Roll them all up in 292 pages hello Reborn in Flames

I got so tired of this coming up in my amazon recs and I’ve read Sinclair before and know she’s pretty good- I just gave in and tired it already.
To be honest I’m a total sucker for this kind of story-line but I do think we might all need counselling. The reasons why I dig this - even though all my common sense says I shouldn’t-  could probably be the study of a PhD student in psychology.

It’s got literally everything that’s become a staple in the RH genre
✅ Girl raised in captivity
✅ Girl abused severally all her life by family because of healing powers
✅ Girl is therefore the most naive and innocent girl ever with severe self esteem issues.
✅ Mate bonds
✅ Over protective shifters
✅ Every Male who is not her mate also wants her
✅ Every other girl is a bitch and an ex of one of her mates

It has the overprotective dragon shifters in abundance. But disappointingly there’s no real shifting or dragon activity going on. There’s nothing to distinguish them as dragons, they could be lions or bears just as easily. Some dragon behaviour would be nice and more magic and shifting. The added 7th member to the harem was so unnecessary . It added nothing and felt like it was thrown in there without any build up.
Another major theme is that Maya is barely 18 and these men are ... well men. Her mental age is 12,

"So that was what the equivalent of physically hitting on me looked like without clothes? I sort of really liked that. Was it bad I wanted to touch it? I didn’t know if that was a thing. See? I really needed to talk to Jordan more"

It’s a little weird how they seem to love her naivety? Almost like they want a child instead of a woman. I found myself in more than one place thinking is this ok?.
It toes the line and depends how strongly you feel on the older guy/young girl thing.

I actually thought when I started this that is was a stand-alone and that made sense to me as I was reading why it was moving so fast. Then I come to 89% and I realise it can’t be because they haven’t all marked each other... I’m now a little peeved.

So why oh why do I want to read the next one?

I need locked up for enjoying this I know I do.

Why do books with this same storyline keep being written....because we eat them up. Authors are literally giving us what we want so I don’t blame them.

It’s a little unfair I’m picking on this book review when, as listed above, so many others are guilty of the same. If you enjoyed any of them - as I did #guiltypleasure - then you’ll probably like this too!
I could say so much more but let’s leave it at... It’s not the best of this kind I’ve read but not the worst either.

Marcos - Alpha
Henry - Beta the geek with a dominant streak
Atlas - my fav, the big guy with the soft centre
Ledger and Anani - they’re twins enough said
Sai - got a bit left out, he’s forgettable right now
Mystery 7th - ughhhh why

This book was okay...and that’s fairly underwhelming as I was prepared to get blown away for what ever reason. My fault. This is gonna be a long one, so grab your popcorn.

I’ll start with the characters as they are always one of the most important part of the book to me.

Maya: She’s our heroine and has grown up in a basement of a church, getting abused by her father, the Pastor and her mother. Neither are her actual parents though.
Maya is a very naive heroine to say the least and I didn’t dislike her...but I didn’t actively like her. She was pretty much Sand from the Ghostbird books but more blunt and naive. I did like her bluntness, she really wasn’t going to let the guys walk all over her. But, to me, she was just too immature. I can’t really explain her immaturity but it was like being in the mind of a child...with graphic sex...Um, no thank you.
She has only ever known three people yet can easily function in public. I get it’s supposed to be because she’s a quick learner and all, but it’s just unrealistic. Also, she just found out dragons exist and doesn’t really care. Isn’t blown away.
She was bubbly which I liked and some of her thoughts were quite funny.
She’s amazing at painting, has never painted before, but in half an hour made a masterpiece. Because that’s how it works.
And her favourite colours are, and I quote “Pink...Oh, And glitter!”

Our guys...Here is where the problem lies.
Major let down.
With RH books, they need, and I stress NEED to have different personalities. These did...but only kind of...Okay, not really. They seemed to blend together in a way. I liked them, but it was such a short book that I dont know them at all, especially considering there are seven of them.
We all know RH guys have stereotypes and I love when these are challenged and that seems to be what M Sinclair has tried doing, but I just feel like they’re just lesser versions of the stereotypes, making it way harder to learn about them. I’d rather know that one is the short tempered, grumpy, intense one, instead of having one who’s short tempered, along with a few others who are short tempered, and we are told he’s grumpy, but of course not to our heroine...so we are never shown the grumpy side. I just finished reading this and I don’t remember all of their names, but I’ll do my best.
Also, we hardly know anything about their pasts.

* next to the ones I remember most.

Marco: Alpha dragon shifter. First to meet Maya. I guess he’s kind of serious but also very affectionate to Maya. Kind of. *

Henry: Beta dragon shifter. Shortest. I’m pretty sure he’s the smart one (of course they’re all smart, but I think that’s where his character is heading, though we weren’t really shown) He has a medical degree, but his true passion lies somewhere else, just can’t remember where. Probably my favourite. Fair dirty talk. *

Ledger (Twin 1): Um...I think he has indigo coloured eyes...but other than that he doesn’t really have much of a personality...That’s kind of awkward.

Anani (Twin 2): I had to go back to check his name. Don't remember what he looked like or what his personality was.

So, she hasn’t done the ‘One grumpy twin, one happy go lucky, jokester twin’ so congrats. But neither had personalities to me. It felt like they were there for the dialogue. Also, they’re in a famous band...Of course they are.

Cloy: Southern accent, honey blond hair, absolutely massive. He’s a wolf shifter and possessive...but then again they all are.

Atlas: Protective and also huge also Very gentle with our heroine...but they all are. Do you see the problem here? *

Sai: Forgot He was a character.

I feel like the author just threw more guys into the mix because why the hell not...but none, and I mean none were memorable at all. I hardly even remembered their names, forget what they looked like. At times they seemed like they were going to be given more of a distinctive personality, and I had faith in Henry, but they all fell short. Hey we’re all protective, all gentle with our heroine, all utterly obsessed with our heroine, all short tempered when it came to our heroine...they just BLENDED. They all could be merged into one character and he just wouldn’t have had a distinctive personality either.
They’re also famous. Why? Not really sure.
They also have four spare phone lying around the house in different colours. Coincidence, I think not. Because our dear Maya went through her life without a phone.

The plot...was just her and the guys going on holidays for the weekend and shopping...and chilling at the house. They were just waiting for her to turn 18 to get her out.

The extra star, though, was because it did, somehow, hold my attention. I skimmed every now and again, but was entertained.

This was my first book of M Sinclair's and I can’t say that I’m in love, but I will give another book of her’s a go.

Yet another book that I'm SO glad it's finally over. It started off strange when I had the biggest bout of deja vu I've ever had with a book in my life. I swear that I read the first half of this book word for word before in another completely different book. It was weird. The guys were indistinguishable from each other in my head. It was off-putting and dull. By the end, I really couldn't care less. I'm glad this is over. I will not be getting into the next book in this series. Hopefully the next book I pick up is better than the last two ♡

Nope. Just no. I listened to this because of Grayson Owens and while I freaking love him as a narrator - I strongly disliked this 🫣

It’s said the FMC is strong but no.. she’s definitely not. She’s extremely inexperienced and immature and there were so many times I wanted to rip my AirPods out and throw them across the kitchen.

I genuinely feel like I can’t find an RH book or series I truly love at this point. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I dug this.
It’s pretty good has a bit of the virgin trope, but that’s to be understandable if she’s been locked up. The story was a bit more tame than I expected but I still enjoyed the story. It also didn’t allude to it centering around going to school, and it doesn’t, but there are a lot of school scenes. The story isn’t fully done yet, so I don’t feel like it’s fully developed enough for me to figure out what these outside school characters are for. Jordan a girl from school, Seth, and Malloy, I have no idea if they are supposed to be friends, or what we see them rarely that we don’t know much about them.

Overall I like the book, but it could use a bit of direction. There’s a lot of nothing going on and a lot of alluding but nothing much happens per se until the back end of the book. However I’m still with it and intrigued enough to want to go onto the next story.

Simultaneously loved and hated it

By love, I mostly mean the idea of it. Premise whise, I was so excited and held high hopes for this. I don't, as a personal rule leave reviews under three stars but I had to force myself to finish this and can't bring myself to give it more than two. The rest of the review contains potential spoilers as I don't think I can fully explain why I didn't like this without them.
I don't think it's that spoilery to mention Phoenixes, and I love them, they're one of my favorite supes, so I was so ready for a book with a Phoenix as the mc.
This didn't deliver. The main character is annoying and juvenile and while some of the naivete is understandable, other parts aren't. I actually don't mind weak heroines or damsel in distress tropes, and that's not the issue, her personality just didn't make sense to me.
How is she aware enough to know she's not normal and that the mistreatment isn't normal but not able to realize that she's not evil and deserves love and happiness? And that particular plot point seemingly disappears as soon as she turns 18, I guess because she finally realized she was lied to?
And her trauma is just not handled realistically at all. I'm not a psychologist but I have studied it.
I would imagine someone having survived that situation would potentially have one of two core personality traits maybe even both interlapping.
One, anger at everything they've been through, the people that mistreated them, the world, possibly even themselves, maybe even the mates for not rescuing them. Prone to lashing out and mistrustful because of it.
Or two, timid/scared. Easily frightened, wanting to run away, won't make eye contact, also mistrustful. Prone to being quiet, flinching, and hiding.
Happy go lucky, bright and cheery just doesn't fit, given her background. It's like she was created with the emotional capacity of a child.
Like I said, the naivete makes sense in some context, but since she was partially educated and had things to read, and was constantly abused, if anything it would make sense for her to be more logical/clinical than emotional and to analyze things more by facts and what's presented and possibly be socially awkward and not even fully aware of that awkwardness. And along with that clinicalness she would most likely be adverse to touching, given that all her physical interactions were violent. She was socially awkward, I'll give her that, but clearly realized it, and had barely any problems with cuddling and touching. She was naive about sex and social situations, the fact that she was told about sex and apparently had the threat of sexual abuse hanging over her, should've made her more aware of sexual situations. The naive to social interactions/cues make sense, but I stand with her open, honest, cheerfulness isn't realistic.
There's some implausible scenarios as well. Like Jed and the Mom sending her to a rich school that just happens to have a lot of shifters at it. If Jed supposedly has all this money, we find out later from clubs, then why does he live in a rundown trailer? How were they able to even get her in school when she apparently has no social, birth certificate, or any records at all? A lot of schools won't let students attend without having at least one round of vaccines, from my understanding, but that wasn't a problem?
How did she know when her birthday was? And of course it ended up being a day early, but how'd she even know.
How was Jed, supposedly a normal human, able to get into a guarded house with 6 dragons and drag off the mc and have her long enough for them to kill her? Like I know it's a fantasy book but if these dragons are so badass, shouldn't they have sensed something?
The council wanting her to meet other dragons doesn't fully make sense. If the mate thing is such a big deal and everyone knows how possessive and protective dragons are of their mates, why would that even be an issue, especially when she's confirmed it. It feels like that was added in to cause me drama.
The father at the end, he snidely remarks that she has no birth certificate to prove she's 18, yet if he has no paperwork to prove his connection to her, and it's clear they aren't biologically related than the human authorities would most likely never take any claim on her seriously and arrest him, especially if she reveals her mistreatment. Also how was he able to get away with hiding her for so long?
I'll give it that the mystery of the cult was interesting but that's about it. A lot of the characters are one dimensional tropes. The mc is unrealistic and the story is convoluted. Plus a few antagonists with unclear motives, or just deranged like the Mom and Becky.
I feel bad for giving this such a low rating but with all these things that just don't make sense plot whise, I can't recommend it. I know I probably won't finish this series, but hopefully it gets better for those that do.

DNF (left off at 45%, page 104)
I'm sooooo disappointed. I have wanted to read this series for so long and finally just picked it up, and it's the most underwhelming story. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a good damsel in distress trope, and I absolutely love books where the harem saves the girl from some tragic past. But I really just cannot get into this book. The potential for this book was so high, and it just flopped for me.

For starters, I don't like the way Maya acts. Nothing about her personality says that she is working through trauma, and the way she acts extremely childish is borderline creepy. Like when the guys are talking sex stuff with her, it gives me the vibes of the older kids explaining the birds and the bees to some elementary school kid on the playground. It's just really weird and creepy, and it doesn't make me feel invested in any romance sparking between them. I get that she's supposed to be naïve and sheltered, but it's too much here. Especially when she is also "extremely smart" about so many other things, but conveniently has no clues about what a "date" is or what "sleeping together" means.

I'm not a big fan of insta-love stories either. I can make allowances for supernatural stories like this one where there's a mate bond, but I still didn't really like it here. Like...I don't know how to explain it. I couldn't even get all melty inside and appreciate when the guys were sweet with her in this one because it was like, IMMEDIATELY, they were petting her face and cradling her in their laps and kissing her, etc. and they just met literally 3 minutes ago. So it's less sweet, and more creepy, to me. Which sucks because tactile love languages are my jam, but it's too quick in this story and Maya doesn't have any hesitation despite being severely abused and traumatized.

I also can't figure out this world we're living in here? Are we in some supernatural world, or what? Like her parents are humans who think she has the devil in her because she has supernatural abilities, but then she goes to this school where half the student population are shifters and openly use magic and her harem are super open about the fact that they're not human. It's really confusing when I thought they were in the mortal world. It's really throwing me off.

Oh, and I haven't gotten this far, but I know from spoilers that most or all of the guys in the harem are somehow super famous and/or prodigies? I think if so many different tropes were going to be thrown into the story, it needed to at least be longer as a single book. Like I know this is a series, but their personalities and backstories and stuff should have been expanded upon more in book 1. It's like all of these different tropes were taken and mashed together in this book, and they don't really WORK, the way they're executed.

I like all the guys so far, but they're also still strangers. And all of them are too similar, so I have a hard time telling them apart. For the lack of character development, there are too many guys, and the story is too short to really fall in love with any of them. Henry I think is my favorite, purely because he has a personality that's somewhat distinguishable from the rest.

Oh, and side note, the grammar is atrocious. Like starting dialogue without a capitalized letter, and misspellings on most of the pages. And also the way they talk bugs me. Instead of saying, for example, "What's going on?" they'll say, "What is going on?" Like they talk like robots sometimes and it threw me off constantly in this book because it didn't flow. And it's not like it's ONE character that does this because they're socially awkward or something. It's ALL of them, so it's really distracting.

I can tell you the very moment I decided to stop reading this book was when Maya burns the bully girl's hair off, and then saunters up to her guys and says "Hey you". I don't know why, but I cringed so fucking hard. Like I really dislike the way she acts when it's been literally 3 days since she was freed from a lifetime of captivity and she's just...totally fine and normal after all that abuse. "Hey you"? Gaaaaah, I can't even think about it without cringing.

Ok, I think that's it. I don't know, this book just didn't land right. And again, I'm so disappointed because it had all the potential in the world, and fell so flat. I don't understand all the five star reviews, but I guess there's an audience for everything. I'm not writing off giving other books by this author a try just yet. From the other reviews I've read, this author's other works are much better and riddled with a lot less grammatical errors. So someday I'll give another book by this author a try. But this one? Super cringe.

Minor spoilers that I'm sure most won't be surprised by....

This will definitely check the boxes for readers who love a few different tropes:
✔ FMC who has been super sheltered her whole life due to an abusive situation
✔ FMC is something super special that hasn't existed
✔ Because of sheltered life, FMC is very naive (think, IMO, more than Sang from Ghostbird)
✔ Fated mates
Maya is innocent and has next to no applicable knowledge of the world; in fact, she barely even understands the purpose of cell phone (hence my earlier comparison to Sang). She's out of her depth when it comes to the world around her, to understanding men, to her shifter magic and other persona. Although she does show some protective tendencies and some unexpected fierceness, be prepared for her to need to be rescued for a bit.

The guys are interesting. They're dragons, which is a shifter type I've always loved but definitely get to see very often. We don't get to learn too much about them in this first book, but I think, with some events that happen towards the end of book one, shifter abilities and shifter politics are going to become much more of the spotlight topic in book two.

Aside from that, there's a few different personalities, but we don't get to know the guys too well yet. A lot of the plot is focused on the drama of Maya and getting her away from her parents. I'm looking forward to learning more about them- but, just for a taste- we have the bad boy, twin brothers, the super smart one, the authoritative leader, the outlier. So, we do have something for everyone!

Overall, I was entertained by Reborn in Flames. It wasn't knock my socks off amazing, but I don't have any big complaints that make me regret digging into it, and I'll be checking out book two!

The blurb sounded awesome but man the writing was atrocious. Also the story made no sense. The fmc was a Mary Sue and gave 2012 tumblr girl vibes. The guys love her because she’s so “different but in a good way” (that’s an actual quote) and “not fake like everyone else” (again a line from the book).

And then halfway through the book, two of the guys (twins) are suddenly world famous rockstars? Never has any impact on the plot other than that they give her a private show. Except that it’s not private because their two exes show up and fmc is sad because the twins call her her friend instead of her mate. Even though she knows why they did it and agrees with the reasoning. She gets sad and then everyone just immediately ignores what they just talked about and they tell the world they’re mates. Also the twins have oral sex with her so she’s not sad anymore.
All of this happens in one chapter and then never factors into the plot again.

She also randomly gets a wolf shifter (Croy) as a mate. She already has all of her 6 (SIX!!) dragon mates. I browsed through some reviews of the rest of the series and she ends up with 8 mates. Never explained how the mating bond works because it seems kind of weird to be a Phoenix that usually only mates with dragons and to suddenly also have a wolf shifter and an angel(?) as mates. In this book dragons are only males and phoenixes only female, any children they have are full-blooded dragons (boys) or phoenixes (girls). So then why also the wolf and angel (in book 5) and why is it not explained? What does it mean????

I expect to find this on Wattpad about ten years ago. Finished the book just to see if she shifts (which she doesn’t until the end of book two so if you’re waiting for that, just DNF). Also, why did the mother take her away from her dad to take her to school? It’s kind of said later that the girl (forgot her name) is forced to ask/take money from the guys by Jed and her mom, but they couldn’t have known that they would be mates. They don’t even know mates exist so what the fuck was that plan? It made no sense storywise other than for the writer to be able to introduce the mates.

I just realised I only write reviews on books I didn’t like. Also, why is the rating on this book so high.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Meh. I’ve read this before.

Maya is a virginal Mary Sue of all the special who doesn’t know what a “date” is but somehow knows what a clit is. And she has insta-organisms in spite of a lifetime of abuse both physical and emotional and—- dammit authors who write this bull shit—have you ever researched how abused people act and feel and are actually f-cking traumatized? I know this is fiction but give me a break, at least TRY to ground your characters in real emotion. If you give them trauma, they have to work past it. They can’t have MAGIC TINGLES take away the bad.

And...Maya innocently “Oops I touched your penis!!” Then—“Oh my, what a big shlong you have! That must mean you like me!” Too many times. All the eye rolls.

Sorry. I’m just done.

Not very spicy but it was cute.

Heroine is a virgin, and has never kissed anyone before. She also doesn’t know much about romance or dating because she was sheltered her whole life.

Not sure if any of the H’s are virgins. I would assume not. The twins had their ex’s show up but they said they only dated the girls for about a month and it wasn’t love. Two other girls hit on other members of the harem but the guys told the heroine they weren’t interested and never fucked them.

No sex has taken place yet hence the not very spicy part.

A cute read, mostly forgettable and will probably not continue the series because I need to read more books on my tbr😭

So... this was underwhelming. From the number of people and the good grade I thought the book would be better. Unfortunately I didnt like Marco, the main hero.
So he is the alpha (although i felt zero alphaness from him but whatevs) and a dragon, powerful, rich and supposedly super protective, blahblahblah.

Well I call BS.

This man knows his mate is being beat (the f out) by her parents. And instead of saying "we are immediately stopping this" we are going to the cops or to the next fucking dimension or whatever. He leaves her again and again.
He keeps saying "I will protect you nothing will touch you".
Guess what ? She dies.
AND DOES HE LEARN ANYTHING????
DOES HE??

NOOOOOO
This "man" decides that on the same day his mate dies he will take her to LA to show her off.
So. Lets resume. She has been tortured and kept without any information HER ENTIRE LIFE. In a week she goes from seeing the world for the first time while being beat up to having mates, not being human and DYING.
AND THIS ASS thinks to himself "oh yeah I am so protective that the same day she dies, I will bring her to LA to be harrassed by paparazzi and an entire world she has bever seen, plus the dragon council. ".
All because this mf wants to show her off.

I mean... sorry for the rant but whats to love here?

Just so much was contradictory in this. I'm sensing the guys are older than their high school classes let on- shades of Cullens. Ok. But if so, and they realize she doesn't have any paperwork claiming who she is...why didn't they solve that problem? They're all powerful dragons with loads of cash, connections, and power. And how did she get registered for school without paperwork? You have to be vaccinated, have a birth certificate, a guardian has to show these things, plus documents proving guardianship if they aren't biological parents. Paper wise she doesn't exist.

And the mean girl trope? Everywhere mean girls- in the school, at their other house, the councilwoman, ...

I didn't want to rate this because I've been attacked by Sinclair's rabid fans before but there's no foundation for this series. The characters are caricatures. The plot is a muddled mess. There's no world building.

They claim to have cleaned everything up yet humans are picking at their edges. That doesn't say much about their power does it?

Who knew I'd love a book about a heroine who is naïve as all hell! I am normally one for a badass heroine. And Maya, she is definitely not that kind of heroine.

Maya has had it tough her whole life. She's 17 and has been locked in the basement of her church where she lived with her mother and father. They beat her, said she had the devil inside her because she had supernatural healing abilities. Well one day her father dies and her mother moves Maya all the way across the US to get away from Maya's father's "cult".

On the way she runs into her "mate". Without knowing it. Then ends up going to school with the rest of them and let me tell you! They are so sweet! Very "mine", "my mate" type of guys. But they're so sweet to her because of the way she's had it growing up.

Maya grows a lot in this story. The one thing that bugged me was the fact that Maya in the first 17 years of her life never seen anyone but her mother, father, and then her mothers boyfriend. She literally knew no one else. And all of a sudden she's got all these "friends" and she just didn't question anything. But it was still super cute. And I'm on to the next one! :D

This book was weird.

Maya spends from as early as she can remember until a week before her 18th birthday living in the basement of a church and being abused by her parents. After her "father" dies, her mother and her boyfriend move Maya to Washington. Once in Washington, she starts school for the first time and gets to experience a life outside of the basement and meets her dragon mates.

So Maya.... I don't hate her. However, it was weird. It clearly states she is 17 going on 18, but it was like being in the mind of a 12 year old. It was just... really odd. She is very naive and immature. Also, her lack of understanding was inconsistent. The author relied too heavily on this shifter instinct to explain away a lot of the imbalances of Maya's personality as well as what she comprehends of this new world she has been introduced into(the human stuff, not the shifter stuff). For instance, she comes off reserved and self-conscious and then all of a sudden she is telling off some girl who is interfering with Maya's mates. At one point, I was cringing through all of Maya's interactions

Her mates, all seven of them, are basically the same person. There isn't much that differentiates them. They each have a few traits that make them stand out, but essentially they are all domineering and overprotective. Marco, the alpha, is over protective and very affectionate with Maya. Ledger and his twin, Anani (Weird ass names, imho) are non existent. They really don't add much to the story. Henry is the smart one who is also over protective and kind of bossy. Sai, like the others is over protective and bossy, although, there were a few moments that alluded to him possibly being the 'funny one.' Atlas, over protective and bossy... (seeing the pattern here?) and then eventually Croy shows up and I'll give you 1 guess what his personality traits are... Anyhoo, it would have been nice for them to be a little more diverse.

The story was okay, I guess. It was kind of boring, but not too boring. I mean I finished it so it couldn't have been that bad, but it was extremely unoriginal. A lot of typical tropes in this book ... which I guess it OK, but still unoriginal.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I might give another one of her series a try, but I likely will not continue this series. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy read.

Wow. I absolutely LOVE Maya. I mean, this main character is SO much more different that the badass women that Ms. Sinclair typically writes. Though she is nothing like M. Sinclair’s typical MCs, Maya is still very much a badass in her own way. She is a freaking SURVIVOR of 18 years worth of abuse and she’s not letting it get to her. This poor girl has been completely shut off from the world and locked in a basement for as much of her life as she can remember and following her father’s death, she begins to experience the real world. What has me in complete awe of Maya is her curiosity. She acts nothing like you’d expect someone who has never been around more than 3 people her entire life to act. Maya isn’t afraid of the outside world, she wants to experience it. And let me tell you, being there in her childlike (innocent and naive) mind is awesome. She has the filter of a 5 year old and it really is hilarious at times, while also making you stop and think wow, I wish more people could view things like she does.

Then there’s Maya’s men. This lucky ducky has found herself 6 dragon mates and they are completely thrown for a loop with Maya. I cannot wait to start seeing more of their true nature, because I feel like everyone has just flipped a switch and turned into teddy bears since Maya came into their life. She just has that way about her, everything she touches becomes.. sweet..

By the end of the book we’ve been with Maya for 1 week and already she has grown so much. I Cannot wait to see How she continues to grow throughout this series. Bring on book 2!!

Due to depression being worse here lately, I wanted a book that was sweet; where the men of the harem immediately feel possessive and protective of their woman, and no bullying from the harem. I always love books where the fmc comes from a troubled background, be it abuse, trauma, self-harm, or something similar. This book (series) is exactly what I was looking for, with the added bonus of fated mates. It’s slow/medium burn so you get the care and possessiveness starting out then later on stuff starts heating up.
I love all the characters so far (and I’m halfway through the 2nd book as of right now) and I have absolutely no complaints of anything that’s happened so far. It’s a really great series and worth reading if you want a break from all those bully RH out there like I did.

This is another okay fantasy reverse harem. To me, it kind of reads like a more developed fan fiction rather than a published novel. The main character has been incredibly sheltered her entire life and doesn't know slang or have any social skills. It makes her seem childlike, which is understandable, but then she's attracted to her dragon shifter mates and the steamy scenes seem almost creepy. Maybe a better balance of innocence and sexuality would have helped?

I do like the fated mates trope and dragon shifters are pretty cool. This has potential to be a good series so I'm hoping I enjoy the sequel more.

I've read this story at least 2 other times. buncha dudes, phoenix lady, some abuse. Over and over and over and over....

To say the least it didn't really bring anything new to this type of plot line. For once I wanna see someone pick something reaaally weird for a mythological creature. Like a Jackalope. or a Squonk.

Also was a little weirded out by her being super young and innocent with all the leering the love interests did.

It wasn't badly written, just wasn't mind blowing content.

This book had me hooked

This book while reminding me of another book i read and loved has some different aspects to it with the shifters. That ending is crazy and left me wanting to devour the next one

this felt like one of those really bad alpha male "mate" story ads on instagram and tiktok. i have never laughed and asked what the hell was going on so much in my life. it would be a 5/5 if it was camp but it isn't. worst depiction of of trauma i've ever read. glorious

I ended up DNFing this series on the second book. I have read other series by this author that I enjoyed but this one missed the mark.

M Sinclair definitely has a theme they like to stick to for the series that I have read. This is my 3rd so far for the author and they all have had a naive, innocent FMC with a tragic backstory and very possessive, protective men. The men fall fast and hard and for the majority of the characters the relationship conflicts are external. Everyone is pretty insta-lovey which for the other series I have been ok with.

The FMC in this one was so incredibly naive and it started to annoy me. Halfway through the second book I just couldn’t take it anymore. Her constantly misunderstanding everything because she was so sheltered was supposed to be funny but the author did it too much in my opinion. Most of what I read in the second book was her men spoiling her and talking about how they just want to make her happy. Which is all fine and dandy but there wasn’t enough plot to keep me interested.

I’m bummed about this one. I like this author and this book was a good start to the series but the second book took such a dive for me I won’t be continuing.

Loved It

So far, this has been my favorite M. Sinclair book. I love how sweet Maya is and while she is naive and innocent, she isn't stupid. She is also pretty strong and just cute. So far, I like all of her mates, but I'm looking forward to learning more about them as things move really fast in this book and not a whole lot of "getting to know you" instances take place.

One thing that I'm happy about is that this book doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but there are still plenty of things that can happen to move the story forward.

This book was like Alexa Riley (super possessive, jealous asf heroes, insta-love) meets Tate James (RH, amazing at writing paranormal stuff, 200-300pgs of story).I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

This was my first read by M. Sinclair and i have no ideia what her other books are like, but in Reborn series i just loved all her characters!!!

I'm actually annoyed after reading some reviews here that are saying Maya is dumb or how they did not liked her very much because she is super naive.I mean the girl was locked in a church basement all her life, wtf did you guys expect? She had never met other guys her age, never dated, never had friends. And to me she is so funny and sweet. Of course, there was moments in the story, little ones, where she would let people be mean to her and i'd get frustrated, but still i really liked her character. After spending all those years locked, she was just curious about everything new around her, and she even made me laugh sometimes.

I love badass heroines but i also love the sweet and naive ones.

And i just have it bad for possessive heroes.Atlas, Marco, Sai, Ledger, Anani, Henry and Croy were perfect. They were worried for her and protected her since day one.Sure, they already felt she was their mate, so their behaviour from the start made sense.

What made me love this series so much was the fact that even being an kinda insta-love story, was not boring or too short. Usually books with mate things that have possessive male characters just have like 60 pags and nothing really cool happens.

Here we are just eager to learn more about what Maya is, when and if she is going to shift, how her bond with the guys will work.Even with them being all growly and like "mine" towards the MFC, the author takes things slow, and little by little they moved forward in their relationship (kissing and sex things).

So yep, now i have to add M. Sinclair in my personal favorite book authors list, next to Callie Rose and Tate James.

PS:Sorry for any possible writing mistake, i speak portuguese.
