Traci Hunter Abramson quickly became one of my favorite mystery/suspense authors when I got an e-reader as a gift in 2012. I don't think I've read a book by her that I haven't liked, and this is one I LOVED. This is part of the Royal series, but it can be read as a standalone. I promise you won't be lost if you haven't read the other books. If you have read the others in the series this picks up about a year after Royal Brides. This is my favorite of the all the Royal books--it's got a princess, a handsome and smart hero, a shadowy villain, lots of action, and it takes place on a beautiful Mediterranean island, plus the book has a gorgeous cover.

This story is told from several viewpoints--Cassie's (Princess Cassandra), Levi's and the villain's. I liked seeing things from the bad guy's perspective--the reader knows what he's doing, but not exactly who he is or how he fits into things. It was another piece in a mysterious puzzle of who wants Princess Cassandra dead and why.

If my life were ever in danger Levi Marin's the guy I would want protecting me. He's smart, brave and knows his stuff. His first priority was always what was best for Cassie. I thought the romance between them felt believable--not rushed. I felt for Cassie when she had to face her fear of heights because I'm afraid of heights too.

I liked the way the author balanced the budding romance between Cassie and Levi with the action. I thought the plot moved at a steady pace until the exciting conclusion. I got so caught up reading I didn't want to put the book down to do other things. There never seemed to be a good place to stop reading. This is a great addition to my Traci Hunter Abramson book collection.

I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I loved the book so much I bought a copy for my personal collection.

Traci Hunter Abramson is one of my favorite go-to authors. She writes several different genres and I enjoy them all. This book is a continuation of her royal books but can easily stand alone. I have to say that I sure love this cover better than the previous ones!

I love the setting of this book and wish I could go somewhere with warm azure waters right now. There is something about imagining the life of a princess in danger and a dashing, strong man to protect her. It definitely feeds those romantic notions that live in my head. Levi is awesome. Trustworthy, brave, smart. All the things a great hero lead should be. Levi and Cassie's relationship feels mature and believable. I enjoyed them both very much.

The plot in this story has a great build up. Information comes in a steady stream and keeps building until the explosive climax hits. I was interested from beginning to end. This is a clean romantic suspense.

Content: mild violence, mild peril, kissing

I really needed this book. It helped to take my mind off of all the uncertainty going on in the world around me. I needed an escape from the news.

The setting is a kingdom in the Mediterranean. Traci Hunter Abramson describes the scene vividly, it makes e want to visit. For now, I will do so vicariously in the pages of the book. :)

Someone is trying to kill the Crowned Princess. In an attempt to shelter her from harm, her father sends her to a neighboring kingdom where she meets Levi, an undercover agent for the CIA. Princess Cassandra seems to be serious and withdrawn in the media. Levi soon discovers that it is a public face and that there is a wonderful woman behind the mask. I really liked the characters and that they were well developed. The tame frame of the book is a couple of months, but it didn't feel like a rushed romance

Levi works with others and his resources to track down who is behind the attempt of Cassandra's life. It was easy to be drawn into the story and be right along with Levi as he protects the princess.

Traci Hunter Abramson is one of my favorite suspense authors for a good reason. I know that I will always pick up a well-written book that is entertaining and believable.

Traci Hunter Abramson’s suspense books are always my favorites! She has such a way of writing, it just keeps the reader wanting more. There were parts in this one that I wanted to yell at the hero or heroine to stop. But, of course, they couldn’t hear me.

This book will stand alone just great. However, it will make more sense if you’ve read Royal Target, Royal Secrets and Royal Brides first.

This one features Princess Cassandra of Sereno. It’s always fun to imagine the life of a princess. And Cassandra has had a great life. But things change rather quickly when it appears that she is the target of an assassin, in her own home! She’s whisked off to a place where her dad thinks she’ll be safe and protected by Levi.

Levi is a great bodyguard and a nice guy. I really enjoyed how quickly Cassie goes from a job to someone he really cares for.

I loved the carefree parts of this book. Where Cassie knows she’s safe and Levi pretends she’s his girlfriend. But the more suspenseful parts are what kept me wanting to read more and more. I’ll just be honest, this author’s books never take me long to read, because I can’t put them down.

If you love suspense books, you’ll love this one!

I was sent a copy of Royal Heir as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This was a nice story. I feel bad not giving 5 stars. For one, I don’t like getting inside the bad guy’s head. Second, for some reason, I kept scan-reading which normally is 2 stars. But this had more going on. This was just so mild-mannered.

**Next morning.** I woke up thinking about this book and why it wasn't five stars. I am a huge fan of Abramson and I have read pretty much everything she's written. She is one of the bright lights of LDS fiction. I was looking forward to this book. Sometimes that can set me up to be disappointed but I don't think that was it this time. I have tired of certain tropes within the romance genre and, unfortunately, dating royalty is one of them, so I think that tempered any unrealistic expectations. However, I also don't think that bias had an effect on the star rating.

My thoughts this morning, with particular clarity given that I had awakened from deep sleep to that clarity, focused on the author's inclusion of Julian's point of view. Normally, my dislike of reading the bad guy's POV is that he is creepy. That wasn't the case here. Julian was a garden-variety bad guy. The real problem was that his inclusion totally wiped out any mystery and any suspense in the plot. I am not even going to list my discussion here as a spoiler because the inclusion of Julian's POV was a spoiler. Who shot at Cassie? Well, we knew that immediately--someone hired by Julian. Why did someone shoot at Cassie? Well, immediately it was revealed what Julian's motivations were. Why was there a theft accompanying the shooting? Well, we knew that, too. What was going to happen next? We knew that, too. All that sleuthing by Levi at Garrett's home was just a form of showing off Levi's extensive contacts or prowess--because we knew everything before he did. We as the reader had nothing to gain by wading through all that. There was nothing he discovered that gave us any sort of "Ah-ha!" moment--we already knew what he would find--over and over and over. This is the same for the ending (and you can choose not to read the rest of this review) because you knew Julian was there at the castle and you knew why he was there and you knew how he got in and you knew who was with him. And, and, and. The fight was just a series of mini-skirmishes, not one big blow out. Levi and Cassie merely chatted behind a rock. I had no worries that they would be caught because they were chatting full-voice behind those rocks.

Then there was the romance that wasn't very romantic. For the first . . . what . . . half of the book, I liked both characters adequately but there was no spark and no attraction until there was the almost inadvertent romance. Yes, I knew I was reading a book labeled "romance" but did Levi and Cassie know they were in a romantic novel? I couldn't tell it, not until that mid-point when they did somehow veer in that direction. And even after that, their romance was so calm and business-like that it just wasn't romantic. The romance was like a people mover at an airport. At the airport, you step on the people mover and you stand there while it moves you along to the end. No curves or twists, no ups or downs, it just keeps moving steadily to the end. I kept feeling like I was reading about an already married couple rather than the discovery of new love.

I believe these two reasons (Julian's POV and the staid romance) were why I scan-read. Truthfully, scan-reading is normally a two-star rating--automatically--but I just couldn't do that to writing royalty (Abramson).

Royal Heir is a fantastic kick off to a new series for author Traci Hunter Abramson. The story is set in the beautiful Mediterranean and has royals, suspense, and romance. Readers will love the chills that this book gives them, whether from the spine tingling excitement of stolen gems to the thrilling romance. 4.5 Stars Great Romantic Suspense

You can never go wrong with a novel by the talented Traci Hunter Abramson. She really knows her stuff and does extensive research when writing a novel, and it shows in her attention to detail and plot buildup.

I loved this princess and bodyguard storyline. It helps if you’ve read the books in her “Royal” series, as you understand more of the characters and their histories better, but you don’t have to read those beforehand.

I loved the suspense and mystery in this book, and the romance was clean and sweet as well. Towards the end I couldn’t put it down- the suspense was killing me and I HAD to know what would happen. It was another great read by this author, and I hope we see more books like this one soon!

I literally love everything Traci Hunter Abramson has written. She has written many different series and Royal Heir is book 4 in "The Royals". It's been a few years since book 3 was released, so I was very thrilled when I knew this book was coming out.

I love reading books about royalty and this series is about contemporary royalty. What little girl doesn't dream at one time or another of being a princess? In Royal Heir, the story revolves around Princess Cassandra of Sereno. Someday she will be the Queen of her country, but after an assassination attempt, her father King Alejandro sends her away to a neighboring country for protection. There Cassandra meets CIA agent Levi Marin.

I really loved how Cassandra, or Cassie as Levi calls her, pretended to be Levi's girlfriend as she hides out in Meridia. Levi's goal is to try and find out who wants Cassie dead while trying to protect his own heart. Cassie tries to pretend but soon sees that she's falling in love with Levi, a commoner. Even though the reader can see the writing on the wall, it's fun to see how Cassie and Levi navigate these dangerous waters and work hard at keeping Cassie and her family safe.

I love how the beautiful Mediterranean is detailed so breathtakingly. You feel like you are there walking the sandy beaches and smelling the salty ocean water. The one thing that isn't totally clear is why the unrest in Serano is happening and how it will all fall out. Royal Heir is truly a mix of intense action, forbidden romance, and an exciting culmination that you might not see coming. This clean romantic suspense will make a good read for upper teens and adults. It can be read as a stand-alone, but as always I recommend you read books 1-3 in the series first.

The following is my honest review of an advanced copy I was given of Royal Heir by Traci Hunter Abramson:

I’ve been waiting a really long time to read this book. Ever since I read the author’s Royal series which includes Royal Target, Royal Secrets, and Royal Brides I’ve been wanting to see the character Levi Marin get his own happily ever after story. Traci has finally made my desires happen and she did not disappoint me. In fact, according to the author, this book is going to be a start of a brand new world she is creating. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Though Royal Heir is a start of a new world, you still got to see some old friends in this book which made my heart happy. After all, you can’t have a royal book without the dashing Prince Garrett and the heroic Princess Janessa of Meridia.

This book is full of adventure, suspense, and some romance. All three great elements to make a great read. You are going to fall in love all over again as you get to know Levi Marin and Princess Cassandra (Cassie) of Sereno. You will not be disappointed with this read. I highly recommend this book to all suspense and romance readers.

Traci Hunter Abramson is continuing her Royal series with Royal Heir. This is a new royal family but some characters are familiar. It can be a stand alone book, but if you've read the first books you will find a deeper character development.

I enjoyed this book (I'm one reader who hasn't read the first books) and definitely loved how the romance part was throughout the book. You learn who the guilty party is near the beginning of the book but the mystery lies in why he committed the crime and how he will accomplish what he has set out to do.

There are secrets and responsibilities that keep coming between Cassie and Levi's growing attraction. They are conflicted as to where their relationship is going to go, and Levi keeps trying to distance himself only to keep coming back not only because of his feelings but his sense of duty to protect Cassie.

Traci knows how to write a suspense/mystery/romance and keep the reader reading. I started this book knowing that there were previous books in the series and there would be parts of the story that would be more familiar had I read the other books first. I found that while it would be nice to know that background story it wasn't necessary.

It's a clean romance with a great mystery and suspense, it also shows great character development and conflict. I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves a great suspense with a wonderful love story.

I was given access to an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

Everything I have come to know and love about Abramson's books is in Royal Heir and then some! Royal Heir steps it up to the next level with the romance and the complete mystery as to who was trying to kill Princess Cassandra and why they would want to. The chemistry between Cassie and Levi could be felt through the pages! Levi was completely handsome, brave, and protective. He was the one you would want to have protecting you if someone was out to kill you! The mystery was the best part of the entire story, if you think you know who it is, guess again...and again. Abramson doesn't make it easy and kept me wondering until all was revealed. I loved Cassie and Levi's story, and look forward to the next book Abramson writes; it cannot be soon enough! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have read other "Royal" books by this author but they can be read as stand alone stories. She is an incredible author and I love her books!

The chapters alternate between different characters and their view's of current events, but the story mostly focuses on Princess Cassi and Levi. Nice steady plot with lots of interesting characters, beautiful setting and lots of suspense from beginning to end.

I really enjoyed this clean, on the edge of your set, romantic suspense royal story! Highly recommend whether you have read her other stories or not.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

I stayed up ALL night to read it. Literally. Loved the action, mystery, and the chemistry between the MC's. One of my all-time favorite authors delivered again. I knew all along what was going to happen, but I loved the ride! Came to love the characters as friends like I did with Janessa and Garrett and the Saint Squad. I'd read this one again.

This is a continuation of Levi Marin, the CIA agent from janessa’s story. He gets to guard another princess, but guard his heart in the process! There is mystery, suspense, blossoming relationships if trust, lies, and love that keep you turning the page to see what’s going to happen next. Loved every page.

Another fantastic romantic suspense novel by the talented Traci Hunter Abramson; Royal Heir is sure to delight fans and leave them satisfied.
Royal Heir picks up after Royal Brides in Abramson's Royal series. While it could work as a standalone, many characters, including the hero Levi Marin, will have a lot more depth if you have read the other three novels in the series first. It was so fun to return to the kingdom of Meridia and be introduced to the kingdom of Sereno. At first, I worried this novel would be too similar to Garrett and Janessa's story, but it does have its own story-line and the relationship between Cassie and Levi developed in its own way and style so I never felt like it was a repeat of something that's already been done. I really enjoyed how Cassie's experience in her forced exile humbled her and allowed her to grow beyond palace life. Levi also was loyal to his heart without compromising his integrity. Another element I really enjoyed and the author set up so well is you get parts where you read from the villain's perspective so you think you know who the bad guy is, but the author is kind of fooling you in the best way and I enjoyed the twists at the end of the story.
I lost sleep staying up to finish the end of the book it was just that good. I definitely recommend this novel.

This was the first book I have read by this author and it will definitely not be the last! Levi is an undercover CIA agent and Cassie is a princess, next in line for the throne. Together they have to figure out who is trying to assassinate Cassie and take over the country.
I loved that the story was told from multiple viewpoints - even the villian's -yet there was still mystery and suspense in trying to figure everything out.
This is the fourth book in a series and though I want to go back and read them now, I enjoyed this book without having read the others first.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but am voluntarily leaving a review of my own opinions.

I'm always excited with Traci Hunter Abramson comes out with a new book...especially when it's part of a series I enjoy. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one, but I will admit that I never gave Levi much thought in the other books. I think I thought Allen and his bomb sniffing dog would get the next book, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't think you would need to read the other books in the series before you read Royal Heir. It would be more enjoyable for you because you understand some of the minor characters more, but I don't think it's necessary.

I loved the bold cover. Not bold in a bright color sort of way (which the other Royal series books were bright) but I loved the crown over the light. It's simple and it just kinda hits you, and I love it.

I actually really liked that at the beginning of the book Levi was not excited to have Cassie around. She was a spoiled princess, and I loved that we got to see that change. I love what getting to know others and letting others in does to a person, and so that's fun for me to read.

This book was well written, entertaining (in a "I don't want to put this down" sort of way), and classically Abramson. I might actually change that. Some authors later writings get a little old, but it seems to me that Abramson's just keep getting better. I can't wait until her next one!

MY TAKE
I'd just finished listening to the audiobook for Royal Brides, so when I saw this one was Levi's HEA, I was excited. It was a fun and complicated story with some nice twists. As the reader, knowing what was going on --AND know what would happen when that came to light--added to the tension.

Another excellent story!

I finished Royal Duty (Sept 2024) and realized I had missed this novel from March of 2020. I’m going to guess the Covid shutdown somehow made me not pay attention to a book from an author I enjoy. Princess Cassandra of Sereno (Cassie) survives an assassination attempt in her family palace. Her father, the King, sends her to a neighboring Mediterranean country for safety. She is staying in a secure Royal castle retreat. Levi Marin is head of security and it is his assignment to protect her at all costs. She thinks he is a native of Meridia but he is actually a very entrenched CIA agent. (The local ruling family knows his full identity.) A lot of action is happening. Banks are simultaneously being robbed across Europe and it all ties to an old treaty and the rules of succession for Sereno when the King dies.

Cassie is of course a hard working Royal and gets her first taste of a less formal life at the castle. She poses as Levi’s girlfriend to the staff and security officers. And maybe the romance isn’t as pretend as it seems. This is a really nice balance of action, and romance. I’m glad I realized I’d missed a book and was able to get it easily at my local library. I did notice that the lead in the next book which was just published makes an appearance at the end of this one. I marvel that the author can keep track of her various series when for example in this case it took four years for the next book.

(Genre:Fiction, suspense, romance) Another installment in Traci Hunter Abramson's Royal series, this story is centered on Meridian's neighboring kingdom, Serrano. When an attempt is made on the life of the royal heir and princess, King Alejandro sends her to Meridian, where her safety is entrusted to Levi Marin, friend and former coworker to Princess Janessa. Levi plans on introducing Princess Cassandra as a security professional and coworker, but Cassie doesn't feel like she can pull off that identity. She chooses instead to be Levi's new girlfriend and Levi is determined to enjoy the charade, all the while he slowly starts to fall for the undercover princess. But Levi is keeping a lot of secrets from Cassie and they are secrets that could drive them apart, regardless of the attraction they feel for one another.
This is a cute story. It's very unrealistic in some spots but still a lot of fun to lose a few hours in it's many pages. Abramson always does such a nice job in her books of creating characters that you really like and can't help cheering for, and this book is no different. She is always a "must read author" in my book. Besides her characters, she does a nice job setting up her bad guy and their motivations. Fun story. 3.5 stars

I love these books by Traci Hunter Abramson! They have the perfect combination of romance and action. I felt this was more romance than action, but I loved the good characters! While it was hard to believe that a Princess would fall in love with a commoner, I guess it happens, even in real life. I liked the mystery and it was nice that there wasn't some big conspiracy theory. I had an enjoyable time reading. This book is clean, but not really religious. Some characters are from previous books, but they don't give away the story from the previous books (although you know the protagonists survive!). It made me want to travel to this kingdom and sit on a private beach and watch the sun rise! Great book for winter when you can't cruise to warm locations or for reading on the beach!

Dare to be Royal

There is an assassination attempt on the King and Princess Cassandra. How could that be with such excellent castle security? When it is determined to be an attempt on Cassandra 's life, she and her sisters are put in safe keeping until the mystery is solved. Cassandra is put in the care of CIA Agent Levi Marin. Levi's specialty is security. He and Cassandra pretend to be boyfriend/girlfriend. With Ms Abramson's skillful writing, the reader gets caught up in the lives of royals; romance; suspense; worldwide crime organizations and more than one gun fight. A book to keep you up all night.

In this companion novel to her Royals series, Abramson introduces readers to Princess Cassandra and the royal family of Sereno. After an assassination attempt fails, Cassie is sent away to Meredia, a neighboring country. While there, Cassie's safety is in the hands of Levi Marin, an American CIA agent who has spent two years building Meredia's Royal security. Nobody bothers to tell Cassie that Levi's an American though because of her family's well-known dislike of Americans. In order to provide the security that Cassie needs, Levi pretends to be Cassie's boyfriend. What neither of them expects is for real feelings to develop between them. Abramson has written another entertaining, believable tale of life as a royal. Cassie is a sympathetic character as she struggles to come to terms with having her life in danger, falling in love, and learning her father is sick. Levi's expertise regarding security is believable and fascinating as he works to keep Cassie (and his secret) safe. There's plenty of romance and suspense for those who enjoy those things. I also enjoyed the realistic portrayal of the challenges of being royal as well as the luxuries. A great addition to the Royals series.

Another fun read. It was interesting because even as a LDS author there wasn't any religion in this book. I didn't mind the religious aspects of the other books because as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints yes some things define us and set us apart from others just as they did in the books (that's real life, although getting to marry royalty well...). And although religion is an integral part of my life, it isn't only who I am. I was wondering if one of these characters would be introduced to the Gospel because she's a LDS author but it was just an interesting, fun, romance book because in real life not everyone joins the Church. :) I like this author.

Levi is working to protect Cassie after an attempt on her life and the unexpected feelings that emerge are surprising and strong. I’m a fan of royal romance and although this one is full of obstacles and hidden dangers, it’s a great story that kept me guessing. I love the cameos of previous characters from the series.

The setting is a dream, and the situations felt realistic, especially with this narrator. This author never fails to bring a book to life and it was a beautiful escape to fall into.

Content: mild romance; mild moments of peril/danger

As always, a new Traci Hunter Abramson book makes me drop everything and stay up way too late to read it. This is no exception. This could be considered the fourth book in her "Royal" series but also stands alone well. Abramson can take the most incredible situations (two new countries near the Mediterranean that you didn't know were there, CIA agents, royal families, plots involving rare jewels and lost documents, etc.) and make them credible and suspenseful and fun. She also manages to create characters, something this plot-driven genre does not have enough of. I recommend all her books.
