An Office Alien Christmas: Bia

Rate this book
Revisit the DETI office for their Christmas party in this series of four seasonal shorts!

Bia has finally found her place in the world, and is as happy as can be with her mate Kez, even if he is a little grumpy and stern sometimes. She likes him exactly the way he is though, no matter what anyone else says! She has her job in the DETI cafe, and her house where she lives with Kez and her adoptive mother Til. Their little family is perfect, and Bia can't wait to celebrate Christmas the human way with her family around her. The only problem is, she's due for a heat that could make her miss the big Christmas party! Their friends, Ro and Maggie, have organised it again this year, and Bia is determined to go! Now she just has to convince Kez to go with her...

This novella is short and sweet at 20,000 words. Kez and Bia told their story in The Guy Next Door, which should be read first.

I kinda dig being in Bia's head with her upbeat, sparkly personality and utter adoration of her grumpy mate. Sure, sure, she's a tiny bit spoiled, but Kez doesn't mind giving into her (as long as the spoiling doesn't harm her in any way) for all he grumps and groans about it.

And by that, I mean he gives in to Bia's desire to go to the DETI Christmas party even though he doesn't really want to face his old co-workers AND they're both scheduled to go into a heat around that time. Yeah, Kez is a big softie when it comes to his mate.

We get to see a few familiar faces, have a close call with their oncoming heat, and get to see Bia delve into her mate's hangups when it comes to asking for things for himself. Oh, Kez. You sweet, grumbly alien. Sometimes it's better to give in gracefully and accept that your other half wants to do for you like you do for her.

DETI Christmas fun! YAY!

I’ve not generally been a fan of these Christmas stories. They’ve generally lacked a point and the characters sometimes appeared to be the characters from the associated novel in name only. No such problem here. Bia is particularly well drawn and the story develops the lovers’ relationship. As with the novel, there’s real appeal here for anyone who’s in to top/bottom or age play. Or both.

The sequence where they’re going to the party and simultaneously going into heat is particularly well done and really reminded me of coming up on an e.

Read this fluffy Christmas short in April because right now I need all the serotonin I can get. This reminded me how much I love Bia and Kez's dynamic - grumpy one falls for bubbly one, to the extreme - and even made me tear up a little at the end (in a Big Feelings way, not a sad way). Kez doesn't think he deserves nice things but Bia is determined to constantly remind him that he does. I love this universe ❤️
