Just Alex

Rate this book
Xander Stone is one of the hottest popstars in the world. His songs are on every radio station. His face graces the cover of every top magazine, especially the tabloids.

Everyone adores him.

Except me.

I hate him.

Xander Stone took away the one person I care about more than anything. My best friend.

Oh, and the real kicker? Xander Stone is my best friend. At least he was at one time. Back when he was just Alex.

Actually kind of liked this. It wasn't terribly original and some aspects of it were quite familiar from similar books I've read in the past. But I don't care about that. I wanted to read something that wouldn't disappoint me or piss me off, and this little tale buried in my TBR list met those requirements.

Best as I can conclude, this was sort of a Y/A into N/A if one goes by the ages, which were perhaps 18-19 at the beginning and about 25 at the book's end. But these were well-written, believable characters who acted as expected for their age - meaning they displayed both the strengths and the weaknesses of that age group, including their immaturity. They frustrated me, yet I still liked them. Nice job from this writer.

So, this book won't appeal to everyone. It's a rock star story centering around 3 friends and a handful of secondary players. It is not a love triangle but rather a story of childhood mates, unrequited love and the cost of fame. It touches on the poor decisions and reckless behaviour that often accompanies that life, but not too deeply. There are incidents of drug use and drunkenness involving several characters. Also, there is considerable back and forth, OW drama, OM drama, misunderstandings and separation - things that would make several of my friends on here break out in hives 😅. It's also a slow-burn with one non-graphic sex scene and another fade-to-black, both at about the 90% mark. There was chemistry, UST and some steamy kisses, but that was the extent. For me, it was a most welcome change from the sex-heavy/story lite material that is so hard to avoid nowadays. The sex in the 'sex, drugs, rock and roll' is there in this case, it's just off the page.

To summarise, we have a group of youngers coming of age, being all the things we are at that time in our lives - annoying, impulsive, selfish, funny and endearing. Sometimes you don't like them but most of the time you do, even at their most frustrating.

I liked it. It didn't stress me out and I didn't skim anything. I liked the HEA and that it wasn't all wrapped up with a perfect little bow. They were all a work-in-progress and owned it.

This book is NOT safe, for anyone who needs that. There is a marriage and a child with someone other than the H or h, implied cheating (before the MC's are together), some reckless lifestyle stuff and an engagement to someone other than the H or h. Obviously, there was sex with others. There were no virgins. Nobody was celibate for years. Both MC's had lives outside of each other's orbit.
Decent story that kept my interest. Would recommend.

I enjoyed the story line quite a bit about a young woman who lost her best friend to stardom, and the rekindling of their relationship, but this book was a little aggravating for me like a Three's Company episode when there is a misunderstanding and no one will communicate. I did really like the character of Drew. We should all be lucky to have a friend like him, but I don't think the main character deserved him.

Just Alex was an emotional read.Sadie and Alex were best friends. Sadie and Alexander are not friends at all. Two very stubborn people who wont admit there feeling for each other. These two will pull at your heart stings and make you sad mad at the same time. While reading this book it was so hard to put down. It kept me on my toes the whole time. Thank you Angela for another awesome read. !!!!

An emotional friends to lovers romance that brings out all the feels!
This book really grabbed my attention from beginning to end.

Sadie and Alex were best friends since a very young age. When Alex becomes a rock star Sadie sees him transforming into something he never was and starts losing him bit by bit to his rock persona Xander Stone.

It was amazing to see Sadie realize that her feeling for Alex are so much more than friendship.
I confess that most of the time I wanted to slap Alex right in the face for the things he wouldn't do. And for some that he did do!
But at some time in the book you understand his reasons and when they finally open up to each other it is beautiful!

If you love angsty stories that makes you mad and swoon at the same time, this book is perfect for you!

Worth the read!

It is not often when the story line surprises me and I can't guess what's next, but this book did! This book had my emotions all over the place. The lack of communication between Alex & Sadie was so fustrating that I wanted to scream. Although I love all of Angela's book this is currently my favorite. Hope this becomes a series!!

First of all, I couldn't put the book down! I had so many emotions while reading Sadie and Alex's story. I was happy, sad, stressed, angry and in love. I love them both so much. I would highly recommend reading this book. If you love a true love story read this book!
