About the author

Angela Sommer-Bodenburg is the author of a number of fantasy books for children. Her most famous contribution to the field of children's fantasy is "The Little Vampire" series which has sold over 10 million copies and has been translated into over 30 languages. Sommer-Bodenburg states that her "vampire is not a bloodthirsty monster, however, but an affectionate little vampire with fears and foibles who will perhaps help free children of their own fears." The novel, written in 1979, spawned a series of books, and the plot has been adapted to theatre, radio, cinema, and television. A Canadian-German TV series was released in 1986 and a film version, directed by Uli Edel was released in 2000.

Anton hat einen ganz besonderen Freund: Rüdiger! Rüdiger ist ein Vampir, aber ein netter. Nur hat er leider momentan Gruftverbot und braucht einen neuen Schlafplatz. Er zieht also mit seinem Sarg in Antons Keller! Nun muss Anton dafür sorgen, dass seine Eltern nicht in den Keller gehen, was gar nicht so einfach ist! Und außerdem fängt es im Keller an zu müffeln...
❤️ Ach ja, das war wieder ein Stück Kindheit. Wobei ich damals eher die Filme gesehen habe. Aber ich mag Anton, Rüdiger und Anna und ihre gemeinsamen Abenteuer.

For years, I've wondered what happens to the friendship between Rudolph and Tony, and now I finally get a chance to find out! And, as I am very pleased to say, the second book in the series has a LOT more going on, and explores a LOT of cool new concepts to the vampire lore and experience!

Also, what I was particularly surprised about is that it isn't so much Rudolph and Tony's relationship that we see developing, but Anna and Tony's relationship. I think from the first book it's clear to readers that Anna has a crush on Tony, but because most of the book sets up Rudolph and Tony's relationship, Anna's sidelined for that. Let's just say that in this book...that's no longer the case, and leave it at that, shall we?

Loved it, keeping it, will be reading the next book in the series as well, see how far I can go. Wheeeeee!

As a kid I only owned the first book (which I still have), and borrowed the others from the library. As I was searching for used copies of the series I found out the national library of Norway has scanned them!
While I know the entire first book by heart, I probably only read this one once, so I didn't remember it (as it's probably closer to 20 years ago now). That made reading it now more enjoyable! Anton has to face several problems to keep his friendship with the vampires hidden from his parents, as well as not being eaten by the vampires' family. Really cute and fun!

Uwielbiałam Wampirka za dzieciaka! Nie mogłam też się wówczas doczekać kolejnych tomów (w bibliotece ciągle wszystkie tomy były w wypożyczeniu, więc seria cieszyła się dość wielkim 'wzięciem'). Bardzo klimatyczna, wciągająca i zwyczajnie przyjemna.

Anna, die nie eine Schule besucht hat, und Anton verstecken sich in Antons Schule und haben dabei das folgende Gespräch:

" " Aber hier sind ja gar keine Rohrstöcke!", rief sie enttäuscht.
"Rohrstöcke sind nicht mehr erlaubt.", erklärte Anton.
"Nicht?", rief Anna überrascht. "Aber Lumpi erzählt immer ..."
"Heute gibt es viel bessere Methoden", sagte Anton.
Anna überlegte, dann rief sie: "Gummiknüppel?"
"Zensuren.", antwortete Anton.
"Zensuren?" Anna machte ein ratloses Gesicht. "Wie geht das denn?"
"Ganz einfach.", sagte Anton. "In der Schule bekommst du für alles Zensuren. Wenn du gute Zensuren hast, darfst du, wie meine Eltern immer sagen, eine "weiterführende" Schule besuchen und kannst später einen guten Beruf lernen und viel Geld verdienen. Wenn du allerdings schlechte Zensuren hast ..."
"Aber das ist ja ungerecht!", rief Anna. "Wenn einer nicht so lernen kann ..."
"Eben.", sagte Anton. "

Hach es ist einfach so ein zauberhafter, schöner Gruselspaß. Antons Abenteuer mit dem kleinen Vampir und seiner Schwester Anna gehen weiter. Es gibt allerhand was er in diesem Band für Rüdiger tun muss, denn dieser hat Gruftverbot. Es war einfach herrlich, wie Anton dafür sorgt das seine Eltern ja nicht in den Keller gehen und sich um seinen besten Freund kümmert - auch wenn dieser nicht immer zeigt, das er das auch zu schätzen weiß. Außerdem nimmt auch Anna wieder eine Rolle ein und es gibt einige Szenen nur mit ihr und Anton. Sie gefällt mir einfach total gut.
Außerdem sind auch Antons Eltern super. Klar, vor allem seine Mutter findet immer wieder seltsam was ihr Sohn so veranstaltet. Aber trotzdem sind sie nicht zu streng und lassen ihm seine Freiheiten. Trotzdem sind sie auch präsent und glänzen nicht die ganze Zeit durch Abwesenheit.
Vor allem lernt man aber auch ein paar Vampirregeln kennen und das erste Mal scheint Anton wirklich auch mal in Gefahr zu sein, von einem Vampir gebissen zu werden. Das alles wie auch in Band 1 schön Kindgerecht aufbereitet, mit ein bisschen Grusel und schöner Vorleseatmosphäre.
Katharina Thalbach liest grandios und ich freu mich schon sehr darauf bald Band 3 zu hören. (Und hoffe inständig es werden noch weitere Bände vertont.)
Ich bin definitiv jetzt schon süchtig^^

The Little Vampire Moves In was published in 1980 and it's the second book in The Little Vampire series. The second book is still a dark, fun and an ejoyable read.

In the Norwegian edition the vampire is called Rydiger and his human friend is called Anton. Anton gets a suprise visit. It seems like Rydiger is shunned by his vampire family. One of his family nembers has found out that Rydiger has created a bond with a human. Rydiger comes with his coffin, in hopes to stay. Anton lives in an apartment building and they hide Rydiger's coffin in the basement. There's just one problem. They have stuff there, like tools and his father is about to renovate the kitchen. And vampires smell. How long can Anton lie to protect his friend?

The friendship between Rydiger and Anton is weird and charming. They are the best of friends and sometimes Anton is scared of Rydiger. Especially the times he gets reminded of that Rydiger is a vampire and he knows everything about vampires. And they argue sometimes. Rydiger's family members is also interesting to get to know even though they are not a big part of the book. I also enjoyed the atmospheric illusrtrations without colors.

Even though this book was published years ago, it didn't feel dated. The writing style feels neutral and timeless and the mix of darkness and humor is great. The only thing that is a little annoying is that the characters laughs or giggles a lot. Almost in every page but except for that, it is a book and series that deserves more readers.

Anton hat einen geheimen Freund,

einen Vampir, von dem niemand etwas wissen darf,

aber warum stinkt es plötzlich im Keller so doll?

Vampir Rüdiger ist eingezogen und das Geheimnis scheint aufzufliegen!



Zum Inhalt:

Anton kann es noch immer nicht glauben. Er hat echte Vampire als Freunde. Doch das muss natürlich streng geheim bleiben. Doch was ist das? Als Anton in den Keller geht, beginnt es fürchterlich zu stinken, denn der kleine Vampir Rüdiger ist dort eingezogen und will scheinbar auch nicht mehr gehen. Das ist schlimm, denn es darf ja niemand wissen, dass es Vampire gibt, aber hier unten kann Rüdiger schnell gefunden werden. Anton muss sich etwas einfallen lassen!



Cover:

Das Cover finde ich sehr passend gestaltet. Es zeigt den kleinen Vampir Rüdiger, wie er in einem Kellerraum in seinem Sarg sitzt und es sich scheinbar gut gehen lässt. Das passt gut zum Inhalt der Geschichte und ist vor allem für kleine Vampirfans schnell ein Blickfang.



Eigener Eindruck:
Die Geschichte vom kleinen Vampir begeistert seit Generationen viele junge, aber auch erwachsene Leser. Dies hier ist der zweite Band der Reihe. Die Geschichte ist einfach und verständlich geschrieben, sodass sie auch die jüngsten Leser schnell verstehen können. Dabei macht es vor allem spaß Anton zu begleiten, der immer wieder versuchen muss seine Eltern und andere davon abzuhalten in den Keller zu gehen und auch immer wieder versucht Rüdiger zum Auszug zu bewegen, ohne ihm dabei ein unwillkommenes Gefühl zu vermitteln. Anton steht also wortwörtlich zwischen den Stühlen und muss sich echt etwas einfallen lassen, um sein Geheimnis zu wahren und das ist schwieriger als gedacht. Was für kleine Lesefreunde spannend daher kommt, lässt den erwachsenen Leser schmunzeln, aber gut gemacht ist es allemal. Die Geschichten haben einfach einen ganz besonderen Charme, den man kaum umschreiben kann. Der kleine Vampir begeistert einfach. Er ist kindgerecht und doch schaurig schön. Auch die Freundschaft zwischen Rüdiger und Anton wird hier thematisiert, was ich besonders schön finde.



Fazit:

Ein schöner Leseschmaus aus der Welt vom kleinen Vampir. Die Geschichte macht einfach Spaß und spricht besonders kleine Grusel- und Vampirfreunde an.

⚠️ ¡Momento intenso, amigos! 🔥 ¿Qué pasa con Anna, la "niña" vampiro? ¿Intensa es su segundo nombre o qué? 😲 ¡No solo le gusta Anton, sino que toma la iniciativa y lo besa de la nada!

⚠️ Ahora, hablemos del drama culinario de Rüdiger en el sótano de Anton. 🧛‍♂️ ¿De verdad estaba pasando hambre o era una estrategia maestra de "pobrecito yo"? 🤣 Si bien los vampiros suelen cazar, ¿acaso Rüdiger decidía hacer una huelga gastronómica para conmover a su familia? ¡El drama siempre suma puntos, pero aquí podemos oler un toque de teatralidad! 🍔🎭

Not the target audience for this book, but this felt a bit weaker than the first book. Anton and Rüdiger are fighting for a majority of the book which was a shame

There was a few times where events from the first book got ignored. If you’re only reading a few chapters before bedtime with your child they probably won’t notice. There is a scene where anton is interacting with Lumpi, Rüdigers older brother for what has to be half an hour where he doesnt seem to be recognizing him despite the fact that he already met Lumpi twice in the first book. Another time when Anton is about to fly, he suggests walking instead because hes scared of flying and doesnt know how to. and then when he starts flying he comments on how the houses look like toys from up in the air. He flew multiple times in the first book and didnt have a problem with flying then.

Ich liebe auch einfach wie Antons Eltern relativ viel egal ist und der Junge ein ganzes Leben abseits seines Familienlebens hat. Keine seiner ( teilweise auch sehr schlechten) „Notlügen“ wird auch nur ein bisschen hinterfragt, die Eltern nehmen ihn einfach gar nicht ernst.
Auch das weder Anton, Rüdiger oder Anna auf die Idee kommen, die Vampire normal wirken zu lassen mit Antons Kleidung oder ähnlichem ist einfach irgendwie witzig. Nichts macht so richtig Sinn, gleichzeitig passt aber irgendwie auch alles. Die Familie von Schlotterstein hat sich auch nach all den Vampirjahren nicht an die Menschenwelt angenähert und leben nach ihren eigenen Prinzipien.

Freu mich schon auf die weiteren Teile, auch dieses Hörbuch ist super von Katharina Thalbach gelesen.

Every single ,little vampire'- novel makes me feel better.
This series since I was 7 years old and I just discovered a few months ago, how many of the stories I haven't read yet.
Even I am 31 years old by now, there is no way, I'd stop reading these books.
At the moment, I am on the last two, I still know from when I made my mum read the stories to me. :)

But I still love it so, so much!
This kind of friendship, the trouble they both are willing to go through to stay in touch. Even it looks like Anton is suffering for Rüdiger (Rudolph?) you always notice every now and then, how important Anton is for the little vampire.

Auch der zweite Teil der Reihe konnte mich wieder überzeugen - die Charaktere waren wieder sehr authentisch und die Vorleserin hat definitiv überzeugt. Gerade wie sie Anton liest hat mir immer wieder ein Schmunzeln auf die Lippen gezaubert. Für fünf Sterne reicht es nicht so ganz für mich, aber dennoch für gute 4 Sterne.

In diesem Teil muss Rüdiger die Gruft verlassen und sucht eine neue Bleibe - und wo soll er sonst hin, wenn nicht zu Anton?

Was mir am besten an diesem Teil gefallen hat war das Ende, in dem die Freundschaft der beiden besonders in den Vordergrund gerückt wird.

The Little Vampire (AKA My Friend the Vampire) did a fantastic job of introducing readers to the core set of characters, and this entry greatly expanded the world created by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg.

The Vampire Moves In is more ambitious than The Little Vampire and just as exciting to read again approximately 30 years after finding it in a bookstore for the first time. This series is perfect for children who have an interest in the macabre and adults who collect children's lit.

La continuación del libro mejoró bastante, ya que nos muestra más acerca de la cultura de los vampiros y explora más la relación de Antón con la hermana pequeña de Rüdiger, Anna .

Este libro me ha ayudado a comprender mejor porque está serie me gustaba tanto cuando era niña, y en definitiva los seguiré leyendo.

Der kleine Vampir ist für mich pure Kindheit. Und so fühlt sich das Hören auch an. Auch wenn fast alle Charaktere etwas an sich haben, was mich stört, sind sie doch alle irgendwie liebenswert.

Rudolph is an exceptionally unlikeable character in this book. In reality hes no more obnoxious than in the first book but for some reason it bothered me so much more in this book but it definitely made me enjoy this book less than the first.

as a child i never realized how devastating it is that anton is rüdigers only friend and that rüdiger got thrown out of his home for being friends with him... and then he had to live all on his own in the basement.... makes me sick to my stomach... he just wanted a friend ....
