“Bye, Weston. Nice talking to you.” I nodded stiffly. “Yep.” Because that’s what all great writers say to a beautiful girl they want to impress. Yep."

"And this is how you wound up with a broken heart in the first place."

"I wished we were alone. And sober. Not that half-in-the-bag Autumn wasn’t enjoyable, but I wanted to talk to the girl I’d met in the library, the one who was having a hard time choosing which broken piece of the world to fix first."

“Connor, just…” I rubbed my eyes. “Forget me. Forget this conversation. I’ll get over it. Her. I have nothing with her. You do. Love her back, man. It’s so easy.”
"I liked toying with people to get them riled up, and she’d seemed an easy mark. But instead of walking away, she’d met me head on. I liked that. I liked her. And I didn’t like anyone."

"My gaze landed on Autumn. I’m thankful for that smile of hers, Even when it’s not meant for me."
"You’re the Halley’s Comet of girls. The kind that doesn’t come around but maybe once in a life. I don’t want to spend the rest of mine wondering what might’ve been if I hadn’t tried, one last time, to take you someplace where every man will stare at you, and wish they were me."
“Beauty and pain,” she said, almost to herself. “I don’t think you can separate the two.”["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
“Maybe pain exists to make us appreciate the beauty,” I said."

Connor laughed and then pulled me in for a sudden hug. “I love you,” he said. “No bullshit, no fucking around. I do.” I stiffened automatically. A reflex when someone tried to touch me. But Connor was already sunk into my marrow, blood, and bones. I need him just as much. I hugged him back hard. I’d die for him. I couldn’t say it. Couldn’t speak the words out loud.During their junior year of college, they both meet a girl one day. The same girl. She speaks to Weston’s soul. He’s never felt this instant connection with someone. Autumn Caldwell is someone he could see himself falling for. But then Connor sweeps in. And he saw her first. So Wes takes a back seat to his friend. Not only does he take a backseat, but he helps Connor some to win Autumn's heart.
“I don’t know how it happened, or why, but I do. Something in me connects to something in her. I’ve felt it since the day we met.”It’s so hard to call this book a love triangle, because in so many ways, it’s not. There is no good guy, no bad guy, just beautiful souls. All three of these characters I adored. Autumn is amazing. She’s fiercely independent, strong in her convictions, and a wonderful human being. Weston was my favorite person in this book. I loved his words, his work ethic, romantic soul, and how he values his friendships so much. He is always there for Connor even if it’s at the expense of himself sometimes. Connor is so lovable as well. He’s so fun, easy going, and is good for both Wes and Autumn that way.

“Maybe pain exists to make us appreciate the beauty,”
"She’s luminous, and my ugliness and my mean streak would do nothing but dim her…”
"The paper due is about you, with an emphasis on how beautiful you look in every light. In sunlight, in a bar, in a dim café. The object of my devotion. I’ve only been in your presence for a handful of minutes, and the only fucking thing I want to write about is you."
"I’m thankful for that smile of hers, even when it’s not meant for me."
"I have loved you with both
Hands tied behind my back
Bound with pen and ink
Paper and words
Sealed with someone else’s name
until this moment
in which I am nothing
but a man
who loves a woman.
There is nothing left to say
Except to give
all of my heart
For you"

No, no, no
Can someone please explain what just happened? Oh gosh, why? 🤭😭. Ima need that support group, stat! FRTC

"When your dad leaves you behind like a forgotten sock, a piece of your childhood rots away—the part where you can just be a kid without worrying so much."
"I worried I would grow up to be trash too, and would hurt any woman I might someday love, so I vowed not to love anyone."
"I ran a lot. When I got mad, I ran around the old, pitted track at my public school as fast as I could, for as long as I could. I don’t know why; I didn’t particularly like running, but I was fast. I still had dreams about chasing Dad’s car, so maybe that’s why. Maybe I’m still trying to catch him. Stupid. Running on a track, you just go in circles. You always come back to where you start."

“Connor had a strange charisma; as if he were impossible to dislike. His superpower. I was the opposite; I made it really damn easy for people not to like me—I preferred it that way. And yet here I was, hanging with the most popular kid in my grade who’d told Norm the Security Guard that I was his friend.” “For some crazy-ass reason, he liked me. Our friendship was instant, as if we’d known each other in a past life and were just picking up where we left off.”

All my life, Connor’s happiness was my constant. It gave me hope I could find something like it one day. I’d take his fear like a second rucksack on my shoulders if I had to.

“What happened that made you feel you don’t deserve anything good for yourself?”
“I took it too far, but I did it for you. And her. To give her everything I can’t give her myself.”
