Lone Pine Lake #2

That One Summer

Rate this book
The girl next door never looked so good…

Cameron McKenzie knows he's damaged goods. It's the reason he's stayed away from Lone Pine Lake--from just about everyone but his sister Jane. By default, that often meant her pesky, crushing best friend Chloe Dawson, too.

But when he sees Chloe at Jane's wedding, he sees something new in her. Something unexpected.

Chloe has always thought Cam hung the moon. She's even let herself dream of a future with the brooding bad boy in her heart of hearts. After one explosive kiss, it's time to make her move. The guy who always leaves might be tempted to stay by a no-strings offer of a summer romance.

No strings is exactly what Cameron needs to explore these confusing feelings about the beautiful girl next door. He knows he's not worthy of their hometown's resident good girl. But this good girl's ready for an adventure…one that just might end up lasting a lifetime.

The Set Up
Chloe Dawson has had a crush on her best friend's brother, Cameron MacKenzie, since she was in junior high school. He's never paid her much attention what with a four-year age difference, and he left home to prove to himself and his family that he could be a success. Cam's a serious brooder so when he returns for his sister's wedding, he finds that Chloe is no longer the irritating young girl who used to moon over him. She's lovely, tempting and still got a thing for him. But, he's not convinced he deserves the town's princess.

The Issues
I thought this was going to be another typical sweet romance and it was anything but. Oh, it has its sweet moments but not before some seriously rough roads. I spent almost half of this book trying to decide if I would ever like Cameron. Yes, I love the "broody" guy but he takes it to a whole new level, at times pretty cruel to his family and Chloe. And, sometimes she appeared to bend too far over backwards in putting up with his bad boy behavior.

The Heart of the Story
It's when Chloe starts getting beneath Cam's prickly veneer that you just start falling for him and understanding Chloe's real strength and charm. What I was seeing as doormat like tendencies turned out to be sensitivity and patience. She knew how to manage getting the best out of Cam and he was able to let his guard down with her, trusting Chloe with his deepest fears and secrets. And, all this in the midst of skeptical friends and family that didn't trust that he'd be in her best interest.

The Bottom Line
In spite of their most intimate moments occurring behind closed doors, the romance was sensual, letting my imagination do the rest. It's really well written and I got my sweet romance with the edginess I typically prefer. Cam's not easy and that made for a more complex and interesting story. I was really glad that I'd misjudged Chloe; she knew her man better than friends, family and apparently me.

Cameron is the typical wild child of the McKenzie family who ran away from his town and family the moment he could get away. With the typical middle child syndrome and insecurities he keeps everyone away including his family with his gruff demeanor.

Chloe is the town princess who is adored by all and has always wanted to stay in her sweet home town. She has also had a huge crush on her friend's older brother....the bad boy Cam.

Cameron comes back to town to try to find his way again after an accident on his job. While he's back he runs into Chloe and sees her for the first time as a woman instead of a pesky kid.

With this new found desire he amps up his asshole factor to push her away.

The deed is met which causes an accident where Cam's guilt and true feelings are brought to the surface. He tries to make it right without letting the truth come forward and gives Chloe a wish that she has always wanted.

With this sweet innocent safe wish (or so we thought) comes love and heartache.

With the love of Cameron's family and their meddling yet loving ways Cam is shone the light and grabs on to his fears and takes the risk on love and happiness.

Great story about love, family, passion and wishes coming true. Can't wait to find out what happens with the rest of the Mckenzie family.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series Jane’s Gift; it was an emotional rollercoaster ride fromstart to finish. While there are some emotional moments in Tempting Cameron it feels somewhat lighter and it was nice to watch this couple go through several changes in their burgeoning relationship throughout this book.

Chloe Dawson has had a crush on Cameron McKenzie for as long a she can remember. Her best friend’s older brother was a source of fascination for her for most of her pre teen and teenage years. Cameron is a photographer who spends very little time in his hometown of Lone Pine Lake. Home for an extended time, he can’t help but notice the woman Chloe has grown in to.

Chloe was a fun character because we got to see sides of her most people have never witnessed. She’s a highly regarded school teacher who is loved by the entire small community. Somewhat reserved, she lives a quiet life and his relatively happy. However when she’s around Cam, this sultry, flirty side to her comes out and it surprises not only her but Cam as well. I think at times she feels she’s have an out of body experience. Cameron is a difficult nut to crack, but that makes me love him all the more. It’s so obvious from early on that he’s dealing with some major issues and at times he doesn’t deal well at all. He somehow finds himself confessing and sharing all kinds of things with Chloe except the one thing he should tell her about.

I like that on Chloe’s insistence they agree to a summer romance. It was fun watching them date like a much younger couple might and of course denying themselves the physical gratification they both want. They do eventually become intimate and while this pretty much takes place without us reading about it, you get the idea they are both highly satisfied.

While I normally love stories that revolve around large families in this book, Cameron’s family kind of got on my nerves. I know they meant well, but they came off as intrusive and overbearing and I began to understand why Cam didn’t like to come home to visit. It was obvious they loved him but at some point enough is enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tempting Cameron especially the characters of Chloe and Cameron. They were well written and realistic. Their relationship progressed at a nice pace and the fact they both made mistakes and both owned up to them made this a special story. Karen Erickson has created an interesting small town in Lone Pine Lakes and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

This is the second book in the Lone Pine Lake series by Karen Erickson. I had no idea going in that there was a book before this but didn’t feel like I was missing any bits and pieces. I’d say this quick, light and sweet read that can be read as stand alone.

Cameron McKenzie high tailed it out of his small home town as soon as he could and has avoided coming home ever since. Now he’s back in town for his sister Jane’s wedding and everything in Lone Pine Lake is just as he remembers it. Well, almost everything.

“She was off limits. Untouchable. Forbidden.”

Chloe Dawson isn’t the same girl who used to follow Cam around crushing on him since they were kids. Cam can’t help notice what a beautiful women she’s become as soon as he sees her at his sister’s wedding. He can barely keep his eyes off the women who he always thought of as his sister’s pesky friend. Now he can only think of what it would be like to kiss her and he does just that and sparks are flying everywhere. Thing is...Cam doesn’t do girlfriends and Chloe seems like the kind of girl that wants a white picket fence and the promise of forever. But she takes Cam by surprise when she offers him a deal he may not be able to refuse. Only what happens when the deal you thought you wanted turns into something more?

“No expectations, no commitment. Just some…fun to fill our summer days…and nights.”

This was a sweet, light romantic read. More so on the light part. I enjoyed Cam and Chloe in their own ways. Cam wasn’t the runaway from anything and everything because he couldn’t make a commitment bad boy everyone made him out to be. He really was a good guy underneath it all and Chloe saw that good in him even when Cam didn’t see it himself. Chloe was sweet...the town princess. Everyone loved her and despite trying not to, Cam did too. They were good together and I loved that they found their happily ever after. It was an okay read. I just found parts of the book immature for the ages they are and losing interest in parts. Also part of me not loving the book might be because the romance and steam were way over on the light side of things. But it was a cute and quick read and if you’re in the mood for something not too heavy this book might be for you!

“I love you. And I want the entire damn town to know it.”

Tempting Cameron is the second book in the Lone Pine Lake series and since I had no idea it was a second book I feel confident that you can read this as a standalone. Karen Erickson delivered an old fashioned romance that was a delight to read.

Cameron McKenzie left town after high school and has not been back since but his baby sister is getting married and how could he miss it? At the wedding he is shocked to see that Jane’s pesky best friend Chloe Dawson is all grown up and in all the right places. Chloe has had a secret crush on Cam forever and when he kisses her it’s like fireworks on the fourth of July. An old-fashioned summer romance might just lead to something more.

I enjoyed the characters Erickson created. They are flawed, genuine and you cannot help but care for them. Chloe has never left Lone Pine Lake; she is a local teacher and has set down roots with close knit friends and a cabin near the lake. Cameron took off after high school and has made his career in photography. He has been hurt emotionally and physically and shut people out; giving this teddy bear a bad boy persona. The interaction between them was sweet, hot and feed the romantic inside me. I loved the secondary characters interaction with the couple and how everyone swept in to protect Chloe from big bad Cameron.

I consumed this in a single afternoon and found it entertaining. While predictable the characters felt genuine and the race to get my HEA made it delightful. The heat was relatively low but the chemistry was smoking, making this the perfect read for a large audience. The lake-side town and its residence made me want to pack up my bags and spend the summer.

Thank you to Netgalley, Social Butterfly PR, and Karen Erickson for an ARC of That One Summer in exchange for an honest review. All of my opinions on this book are my own and not influenced by receiving an advanced copy.

I am rating this book a 4.2 out of 5 stars! I rate different categories that are important to me personally in a book, and then take an average of the scores to get my overall rating. I don’t share this rubric, because everyone has their own opinions on what makes a great book, and should cater their ratings to their own personal preferences!

The hook in this book was excellent. Pulled you in right from the get go, but what was truly great was the writing keeping you hooked throughout the whole story. I read it in under 48 hours. The writing style was very fluid; just felt very natural for the story being told.

I enjoyed the relatability of Chloe. I’m pretty sure all of us at some point had a major crush on a friend’s older brother. Possibly a flame some readers have carried into adulthood just like Chloe did for Cameron. Having a character like Chloe that you can relate to right away in the book is so great, because it helps the reader put themselves in the story. Loved the depth from both Chloe and Cameron, and their relationship.

Everyone’s opinion of the level of steaminess in a book is different. For me being a somewhat conservative girl, it was toeing the line of being uncomfortable. Based on steam level, I would recommend this book to my college girlfriends, but probably not to my mother. 😂

Enjoyed this story immensely, and would recommend reading it when released!

Tempting Cameron is a cute light read, but that’s pretty much it. Sometimes that works for me and sometimes it doesn’t and in this case the story fell a little flat. While the writing is good, actually better than some previous books I’ve read by this author, the story itself bored me.

Chloe is the sweet hometown girl and Cameron is the hot, brooding photographer temporarily out of a job and plans of staying only for the summer. She’s had a crush on him since she was an awkward teenager and now that she’s grown up, Cameron finally takes notice. The book lost me around the time Cameron kisses Chloe, calls it a mistake because he has nothing to offer her, she propositions him the next night and he turns her down by being a douche and insinuating she’s pathetic. Again, because he has nothing to offer her besides his emotional baggage. Not cool, my man! From that point there’s a case of short term amnesia, lots of guilt and a sweet summer romance.

None of it was really enough to keep my attention and it took me several tries to finish the book. If the issue with her “forgetting” his awful rejection was handled differently or if the story had some heat I might’ve enjoyed it more.

This book takes place in the same world as Jane’s Gift but can be read stand-alone.

Cameron McKenzie is back in town for Jane’s wedding. He left town when he was 18 and hasn't looked back. He is a gifted photographer who has traveled the world. Chloe is his little sister Jane’s friend a good girl schoolteacher who has always had a crush on Cam. Chloe is all grown up and Cam has noticed even though he doesn't feel like he should. He is a good time guy and she is a forever kind of girl. When Chloe asks Cam for a chance to walk on the wild side he knows he shouldn't take her up on it but he can’t seem to say no to the good girl all grown up.

This is a sweet romance with an emotionally scarred guy and a woman who will give all for love without being a total pushover. A fine line but Ms. Erickson walks it well. Every time I wanted to kick Cam's butt Chloe brought something out in him that made me want to go cuddle him. Well played.

I would like to thank Karen Erickson and Entangled Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to read this for an honest review. The pleasure was all mine.

Cameron is the run away guy that seems to always find a way to run. Until he goes home for a visit and that bothersome little girl next door that gave him the puppy dog eyes back in the day aint that little anymore. I started this book this afternoon and just finished it not even 10 minutes ago. I really liked this book and hope to see more in the Lone Pine Lake series. It will have you laughing and tearing up and there are a few places in there that have you saying **^%$$#* what were you thinking!!!

If you are looking for a "feel good" light romance, then this is a book you'll enjoy. The story's main conflict is whether Chloe Dawson can convince Cameron McKenzie to open his heart to her. Providing alternating point-of-views from Chloe and Cam gives readers an in-depth look at the realities each face in life and their struggle to find love and acceptance from each other.

Cameron McKenzie left his hometown right after high school graduation, determined to escape the small town lifestyle that has always stifled him. His career as a freelance photographer has enabled him to travel all over the world, giving him an excuse not to have to return home. While working as a war photographer in Afghanistan, Cam is wounded and his sister Jane's wedding provides an opportunity to return home to heal the emotional and physical scars that plague him. It also provides an opportunity for him to realize that his sister's friend Chloe is no longer "...the skinny, flat-chested girl with braces and glasses."

Now, Chloe has blossomed into an attractive young woman, who in Cam's mind is "...the epitome of the sweet beautiful girl who wanted it all." That is reason enough for him to stay away from her. He isn't the type for relationships, and he knows that, if he pursues Chloe, it will only end with her getting hurt.

It's been years since Chloe has seen Cameron, but, when she sees him at his sister Jane's wedding, she realizes she still hasn't outgrown the crush she's had for Cam since she was twelve-years-old. Although she tries not to be obvious about her feelings for Cam, he is already aware of her attraction to him.

[image error] photo charliebrowngirlwithhearts_zps4ce8969e.gif

Cam is an enigmatic, mesmerizing character, whose quiet, sullen nature keeps most at a distance. He has a reputation as someone who runs; when situations become difficult, he leaves. However, through his point of view, readers are able to look beyond his aloof exterior to see a man who has been both physically and emotionally wounded.

Chloe is such a wonderful character. She's kind-hearted, open, and giving to others. Her personality, as well as her status as an elementary teacher, has made her a beloved member of the community. Although she is relatively content with her lifestyle, she can't help but feel that she's missing out. Her revelation becomes the impetus for Cam to move beyond polite conversation and kiss Chloe.

[image error] photo tumblr_lh5e99iv9W1qhvt9bo1_500closeupkissingtongueaction_zps674130f2.gif

Yes, good girl Chloe becomes a temptation that he tries so very hard to resist. Being around Cam brings out an uninhibited side of her that others never see. When she boldly suggests that they could have an intimate adventure together, he realizes that, although he would enjoy a fling with her, he would ultimately leave again, letting her and his family down.

The temptation to be with Chloe is so great that Cam forces himself to say hurtful, cruel things about Chloe's crush on him to further discourage her. His callous words have the intended effect, and an angry, tearful Chloe leaves feeling utterly humiliated.

[image error] photo tumblr_inline_mlay89iJQn1qz4rgpidiot_zps96f3cbc6.gif

When Cam discovers that Chloe has had a car accident soon after she leaves him, he blames himself. Interestingly, when Chloe awakens in the hospital, she is unable to remember most of the events leading up to the accident. Cam spends time with Chloe partly to assuage his guilt, and partly because he's attracted to her. He knows he needs to confess what happened between them prior to her accident, but he keeps putting it off, telling himself he'll wait until she fully recovers.

Although Chloe knows Cam will leave as he always does, she still propositions him for a summer romance, only she's smart enough to know that becoming intimate with him will surely break her heart. Although Chloe is willing to jump into a "no strings attached" relationship with Cam, she does make the stipulation of no sex.

The plot of the story moves at an effective, smooth pace detailing the "adventures" of Chloe and Cam and their evolving relationship, which starts out with Cameron "courting" Chloe just like in the good ole' days, where they just talk and smooch.

Their friendship deepens as they begin to confide their doubts and insecurities to each other. Chloe is patient, forgiving, and nonjudgmental, which is exactly the type of woman Cam needs, as he struggles with past emotional and physical scars. Yes, he does act like a jerk at times, but Chloe is always right there, persistent in tearing down the barriers he has erected to protect himself.

[image error] photo tumblr_mkji6oFAu81r8825ko1_500_largegrabbinghands_zps3376ec45.gif

Yet, how far can their relationship go, as long as Cam continues to hide the truth from Chloe? He knows he needs to confess, but now he is too afraid he will lose her, if he does.

When the truth finally is revealed, Chloe is devastated, thinking Cam has only been in her life out of guilt.

[image error] photo tumblr_mlu5kvqvSF1razlpio1_500stupidgirlwithstupidcrush_zpscab27dea.jpg

Can Chloe ever forgive him for what happened the evening of the accident? Or, will she even get the chance, since Cam's first inclination in dealing with conflict is to run? The author does an excellent job of showing the complexities of a real romantic relationship.

I received an advanced review copy (ARC) of this book from the author through Entangled Publishing for an honest review.

Tempting Cameron is the second book in the Lone Pine Lake series by Karen. The books are stand alone.

Cameron McKenzie is a troubled hero full of potential. In fact, that's probably why I love him so much. He's not the troubled hero who is a bad boy trying to do good but still screwing up. He’s not the ladies’ man who’s afraid of commitment because he doesn’t want to be “tied down” to one woman. He's the type of troubled hero who's had his heart broken and is lost and desperately searching for who he is and where he fits in. Looking at the world through Cameron's eyes is heartbreaking.

Cameron is the middle child of the large McKenzie family. In his family, it’s easy to see how one could feel left out and unimportant. He’s a mystery to the reader as well as to his overbearing and suffocating family. As a freelance war photographer, he travels the world. Since he graduated high school, Cameron very rarely returns to Lone Pine Lake.

Chloe Dawson is a second grade teacher in the same town she was born and raised in. In fact, she's been called the Town Princess and everyone loves her. Chloe is the type of person who will put everyone ahead of herself. Chloe has had a crush on Cameron since she was twelve-years-old. However, she isn’t your typical heroine who gets starry eyed when it comes to her crush. She’s feisty and calls Cameron on all of his crap.

One of the things I love about Cameron and Chloe as a couple is that they actually became friends before lovers. They took the time to really get to know each other. They danced around each other, slowly dropping little clues that they were interested in the other. Chloe allowed herself to be Cameron's sounding board. She listened to him and didn't judge him or criticize him. The same thing goes with Cameron. He's someone that Chloe finally allowed herself to confide in. Chloe's willingness to be there for Cameron without any expectations is what actually allowed him to heal from all of the demons he carried around.

If there has ever been a romantic couple who should have had their own Brazen book, Cameron and Chloe is that couple. But this is an Entangled Bliss book and the love scenes have to be left to the imagination. But you KNOW that whatever happens between these two is really off the charts.

Some of my favorite lines in the book are:

"Life isn't perfect. I know you always seemed to think it should be, but guess what? It's messy and ugly and mean. You just have to make the best of it and find the good where you can." - Mindy McKenzie

"If you don't let anyone in, then we can't screw you up, right? On the other side, you can't screw up if you're alone so in your mind, it's the perfect solution. You can go on living and be what you think is the best you can be, but really you're just a shell of a person." - Mindy McKenzie

I loved the little surprise thrown in at the end of the book.

To be fair...I probably shouldn’t have requested the ARC for That One Summer. But I’ve read - and enjoyed - Karen Erickson before (although...it was a long time ago and I know my reading tastes have evolved since my last one) so I thought I’d give it a chance.

Cameron is a war photographer who is home for his sister’s wedding. When maid of honor Chloe catches his eye, he’s forced to deny his growing attraction to her (but in the story he calls it “feelings”...yeah yeah, she was a young teenager when you left years ago and you don’t know her as an adult - but whatever) because he’s the town “bad boy” (though I saw zero evidence of that) and she’s the town sweetheart. Chloe, who has always had a crush on her best friend’s older brother is tired of her boring life and wants some excitement, is willing to take what she can get even if Cam isn’t planning to stay around.

So right off the bat, we have two tropes I am NOT a fan of: the best friend’s older brother/little sister’s best friend, and the relationship with an end date. I’m not going to go into the cacophony of reasons why I don’t like those tropes, but this book provided ample examples that furthered my dislike.

Anyway, it’s hard to say much more about the story because one, I don’t want to give spoilers, two, not much happened for over half the book, and three, I tapped out at 55%.

I started this book ten days ago. Then everything in the world went really sideways with the COVID-19 situation and I needed to read something fun and lighthearted, something that was engaging. This book was NOT that. So I went back to a favorite series, spent a week savoring those three fantastic books, and came back to That One Summer. When I picked it up the second time, I initially couldn’t remember a single thing about the story. Now, I read a lot, so it can be hard to remember books I've read in the past. But I don't forget things THAT quickly.

I read a couple more chapters, and still didn’t care about the characters, didn’t care for the story, and didn’t like the writing. The biggest problem was continual repeated internal monologues, lamenting the same "issues." That's how we got to 55% with very little happening. And every time I read a heroine is “hopelessly, irrevocably in love” with the hero, it reminds me of Twilight and I can’t contain a snicker or keep from rolling my eyes. That line was the final nail in the coffin. I just couldn’t keep reading. I was done.

And so is this review.

Around Christmas time, I took a little journey to Lone Pine. This is the place where we got to meet some of the McKenzie family. Well, we are back in Lone Pine to meet another McKenzie. This time we get to know Cameron in Tempting Cameron by Karen Erickson. So, let me share the story and my thoughts.

Cameron has no desire to be back in Lone Pine. However, I think his sister, Jane, would be piss if he didn't show up for her wedding. So, he's stuck in Lone Pine for the summer, because he doesn't really anywhere else to go. While at the wedding he notices Jane's best friend, Chloe Dawson. Let's just say, he's taken aback by how she has grown up.

Chloe has always had a thing for Cameron. However, he never saw her more than the annoying friend of his sister. Now she gets a chance to hang out with Cam for the summer with no strings attach. I don't know, but that never seems to work.

I love the Bliss line, because they usually come out really sweet stories that warm the heart. Tempting Cameron is no exception. I love Chloe and how everyone is trying to look out for her. She's described as the towns princess (not because she's mean, but sweet and innocent). Then you have Cameron. Ok, the guy has some insensitive moments and was a total jerk to Chloe. One of those moments would have been better if just kicked a puppy in front of a little kid, than what he did to Chloe. However, he did redeem himself, which is the most important when it comes to heroes.

Overall, I enjoyed this sweet read. Even though Karen Erickson is know for more steamer books, this is still a great story by her. I enjoyed how Cam realize mistake and tries to rectify his mistake. A great redeeming quality. I love Chloe, because she's just so down to earth and sweet. So, if you are looking for a story with sister best friend getting her dream man, you might enjoy Tempting Cameron. After all even with not-so-senstive guy can be very tempting.

TEMPTING CAMERON is a really good book. I am new to Karen Erickson's books and after reading this one I plan to look up her others. I enjoyed the characters and the plot in TEMPTING CAMERON, which moves along at a great pace. One thing I liked so much about this story is that the relationship between Cameron and Chloe was not typical. I thought certain things would happen between them based on typical romance books but they didn't. I was surprised and I think my mouth dropped a few times while reading it. I love stories that can shock me!

Karen does a wonderful job developing the characters. I love how honest Chloe is with her thoughts, and boy did she just lay it all out there for Cameron. Of course, he did, too and that got him into trouble a time or two. I don't normally enjoy the disagreements between characters in books (hey, I want everyone to get along all the time), but they were necessary in this story and those were the times in which Cameron and Chloe grew and changed the most together. This book had a little more heat to it than some of the other Bliss books I read but not in detail and it really fit the story so I was very happy about that!

In addition to Cameron and Chloe, I enjoyed the other characters in the book, like Ali and Mac and hope a story about them will happen in the future. I love how Cam's family was there for him and Chloe's friends were there for her when the two of them were going through difficult times.

This was just a really good story that touched me from the beginning all the way through. If you are looking for a heartwarming story about two unlikely people finding their happy ever after, I recommend TEMPTING CAMERON.

Karen Erickson has given us a lovely second addition to the Lone Pine Lake series with wonderful characters and a lovely capturing storyline. We met Cameron and Chloe briefly in Jane's Gift (Lone Pine Lake) and whilst I liked them both, once you get to know them in depth they are both so easy to love.

Cameron is the McKenzie that got away. Escaping Lone Pines, he is a successful photographer who seldom returns home and of all the siblings, he seems the most distant. He's a stubborn, insecure man of few words who doesn't do relationships and thrives on adventure. Chloe is the epitome of sweet; the town princess and teacher, she is kind, caring and a good listener. To Cam she was always his sister Jane's irritating awkward friend. To Chloe he was always the guy she was a little bit in love with. She wants adventure and romance and astounded at how she has blossomed he can't deny her. She promises him no strings attached...but also declares no horizontal activities!

Their journey was one of self-discovery and acceptance. Cameron surprised me. He comes across as a giant heartless idiot, but scratch the surface and there is much more to him. I loved him. Chloe complimented him perfectly and blossoms as the book progresses into a strong supportive woman. The lives of the McKenzie siblings all continue to evolve and they bring wit, argumentativeness and unconditional love to the story. All in all a fabulous book; I loved the surprise at the end, it was a little treat that brought a smile to my face and I look forward to more visits to Lone Pine Lake in the future. Poor Mindy deserves some happiness and Mac needs a woman to sort him out!

That One Summer by Karen Erickson

Chloe Dawson is one of the nice women in town she is loved by everyone. She is a teacher and her students love her too. Cameron McKenzie has that bad boy vibe but really he is not. He is just not willing to settle down and commit to anything. He also is dealing with trauma from being a war time camera man. He just needs a break in comes Chloe who is best friends with Jane since childhood who is Cameron's sister. Chloe has had a crush on Cameron since she was a kid. Chloe and Cameron kiss at his sister Jane's wedding. Chloe wants more from Cameron which he is not ready for that. Chloe and Cameron strike a deal after they had a fight which caused Chloe to have a bad car accident.

Can Chloe push past Cameron shell as see that is he worthy of Chloe? What will happen after the summer? You need to read this beautiful story about how hard it is for Cameron to recover from his traumatic past to believe in himself again that he deserves good things and a good women.

This was a quick read and it made me swoon for a summer romance. This was four star read for me and I recommend this if you like reading books that revolve around summer love. Also this is sort of a redemption story for Cameron as well.

Thank you to Netgalley and Social Butterfly PR for a free copy of this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

As posted on The Smutty Kitty

4 out of 5 Licks

Although this is book 2 in the series you do not have to read Jane's Gift to know what's going on here-although you won't be sorry if you do. One of my favorite things in this book is that we get a few glimpses of previous characters. I always love revisiting people I grew to love. Cameron (Cam) is a pretty tortured soul and even though he wants Chloe he is confident he is no good for her. Chloe has wanted Cam for as long as she can remember. Her growing confidence prompted her to put the moves on Cam. He tried hard to resist her and broke her heart in the process. After an accident brings them back together Chloe gives Cam a proposition he can't refuse. Once Cam starts opening up you can't help but start to love him. I can never resist a tortured alpha male or a stong woman. Chloe makes some decisions that made me feel a little sad for her, but love can make us do some crazy things. I absolutely loved the ending. I am a sucker for HEA and they way this one happened was just too perfect for these two. I can't wait for more in this series. :)

Karen Erickson is a must read author for me. I love her writing and enjoy every book I’ve read. She’s done it again with Tempting Cameron. It’s book two in the Lone Pine Lake series.

Chloe is the town princess. The girl next door that everyone loves, but she’s looking for an adventure in the form of her life long crush, Cameron. Cameron wants Chloe, but he always leaves and doesn’t want to break her heart when he does. This combination leads to a great read where the chemistry between them has you turning the pages.

Chloe is so lovable. You can see her being one of your friends. Cameron is moody and a bit of an ass in the beginning. He definitely redeems himself by the end. He grows so much throughout the book with Chloe’s help and love. There journey is full of emotion, tears, joy, love, and happiness.

I enjoyed every moment of their journey. I recommend this book to any reader looking for a sweet, sexy romance. Another great read from Karen Erickson!

5 Stars = A Must Read

Note: I received an ARC of this book.

Cameron has always been the love ‘em and leave ‘em type of guy, he doesn’t do commitments. He did his tour of duty in Afghanistan and suffered an injury at which point he became a photographer and traveled all over the world.

He rarely comes home to Lone Pine Lake and when he does it’s only for a short time. He does, however remember Chloe, his sisters’ best friend, who always looked at him stars in her eyes and he sees how she has grown when he is in town for his sister’s wedding. One thing leads to another and they kiss and she ends ups making a very tempting proposition.

I thoroughly enjoyed how the story flowed. Cameron and Chloe became friends before anything happens between them. Untold truths come out and you don’t know whether to smack him or want to hug him. The McKenzie’s are such a great family, always there for each other, something Cameron didn’t think he had.

With Chloe tempting him, he may be finally ready to settle down…

You know... this book would have been better if it were written as a YA instead of a contemporary romance. I repeatedly had to go back and check to see how old they were!! Their relationship issues were that of a 15 year old! Everytime!

It wasn't a bad book, but personally, I don't like middle school BS. Some people are into that YA drama bit, but I avoid it like the plague.

It was lame.

7th Heaven style lame.

Ugh...

I am so excited that Tempting Cameron was the first book I received through Net Galley.

I really enjoyed this book. I think that many women dream to see their high school crush again someday and having him fall madly in love with you because you are no longer an awkward adolescent but a beautiful, successful, confident woman!! This book totally delivers on that fantasy!!However, it does add some twists and turns along the way!

I really liked Cameron, he was such a lost boy who needed some love and healing. Chloe was so adorable and fun and surprising, I loved that I never knew what to expect from her!!

I think that Erickson did an awesome job of making this predictable story line totally unpredictable and new and exciting. I did not want to put this book down at all! I was totally engrossed from start to finish!

I cant wait to see more stories from the sleepy town of "Lone Pine Lake" and all of the beloved characters who reside there.

I loved this book. It pulled at my heart strings from the start. I loved the confidence that Chloe had despite her vulnerability that she felt. The way she stood up for herself, so strong and brave. Then there was Cameron. Oh he made me mad with his wishwashiness. He seemed to have a tender heart but let his brain get in the way. It was nice to see them come together, even with the condition Chloe placed on him. It was sweet the way he went along with her wishes.

The journey of the two of them figuring out how they fit each other perfectly was heartwarming my sweet. And I laughed at the surprise announcement at the end, but fit Chloe and Cameron to a T.

I have read several of Karen Erickson's books and am never disappointed. She is such a phenomenal writer and look forward to reading more from her.

Karen Erickson is really become one of my favorite authors to read. This is her second book in the Lone Pine Lake series and it was a very good story. Didn't like the hero Cameron at first because he was so full of himself but he grew on me. Still has plenty of faults but then who doesn't, right? The relationship he develops with Chloe may have been based on some guilt but I think he figured some things out along the way over the summertime and found out what he was missing in his life. I'm glad he got the dressing down from his older sister Mindy. I'm glad that his family tried an intervention with him. But what I'm really glad about was that Chloe forgave him and let him leave. Doesn't ask him to stay but told him she loved him. Takes a strong woman. I hope we get a story with Ali as the heroine. I also hope there is one down the road for Mindy too.

What I always love about Karen Erickson books is her ability to take a common romance idea and twist it, give a lot of character and then make it work even better. In Tempting Cameron, there's amnesia, the bad boy in a small town who comes home wounded and a "little pest" to beautiful, sexy woman story. What makes Tempting different is the richness of the characters, the depth of their emotions and the way the author writes them. This is the second book in the series and I hadn't read the first one "Jane's Gift" but I didn't need to. Tempting Cameron is a fantastic portrayal of two people who find comfort and solace in each other, who connect and who find love not only with each other, but with family and friends. This is a book about relationships, about trust and about honesty. Cameron really carries this story and he's a hero to remember.

I love Karen Erickson’s steamy Historical novels, but lately I’ve been checking her Contemporary ones and I like them. A lot!

‘Tempting Cameron’ comes on the heels of ‘Jane’s Gift’ which I read and reviewed for Christmas, and is the second book in the Lone Pine Lake series. Don’t fret if you haven’t read the first as they’re stand alone, but you’ll be missing a great intro into McKenzie family and Lone Pine Lake residents.

Both characters are likable and just so very real and their happily ever after worth the read.

Karen Erickson has a knack for creating characters that are filled with humanity, for the lack of a better word. These people she populates her stories are just too ....for the rest of my review, thanks for jumping over to b2b...

Karen Erickson has written a sweet, sexy romance that leaves you with a happy afterglow. This is the second book in The Lone Pine Lake series. The first is Jane's Gift. Jane is Cameron's sister. Chloe has always loved Cameron but he never noticed her. Once he graduated, Cameron left this small town to escape his family. Now he has returned broken and disillusioned by war and death. After Chloe has a serious accident, she asks Cameron to give her a sweet summer romance and out of guilt he agrees. Their time together helps him recover his sense of self. Will he be able to keep Chloe once she knows the truth. These characters are so engaging that you want to help them find their HEA. I do hope that their are more books. Lone Pine Lake is a very special place. You really should visit.

Tempting Cameron was a good read, I am not going to go into plot details, you can get those from the burb.

This was a very sweet romance and just what I needed after finishing a fairly intense romantic suspense. I needed a good read that was fun and Chloe was fun and Cam while quite the ass in the beginning did come around and let his guard down enough to have some fun. While this is a second book in the series and I have not read the first I did not have a problem following the story...I will be going back for the first one and I want to know Jane's story. This looks like it will be a good series and can't wait for Mac's/Ali's story.

Karen Erickson is one of my favorite authors and I truly enjoy reading her books. This was a quick, engaging read and I found this story to be "sweeter" than some of her other works. Tempting Cameron is wonderfully written and flawlessly flows from beginning to end.

Tempting Cameron is a sweet romance with splashes of sensuality. The two main characters, Chloe and Cam are real and likeable. Most readers will be able to relate in some way to their experiences of longing and love that they undergo. My heart actually ached for Chloe and Cam when their relationship was on shaky ground.

I look forward to reading another great book from Karen Erickson.

I am quickly becoming addicted to this authors work!

Another great book, if you love a broken hero who you just want to drag into you neanderthal woman cave them Cameron Mckenzie is sooooooo for you lol. He is perfect, moody, sullen, strong willed, sulky, holds things close to his chest, passionate and so hot it's ridiculous.

Chloe is sweet and is in love with the hero from afar - or so she thinks.

I love how we are throw straight into the story, without a long drawn out "intro" to the characters. We get instant heat and the che,is try between these two burns the pages.

One thing I am desperate for is Mindy's story, I so want her to kick Marty's backside!

Highly recommended read!
