Well, this was quite better than what I expected. Maybe I would have given it a higher rating, if only it wasn't for that ending (Grace does something totally out of character for her, and also things felt kind of rushed). I must admit it was kind of predictable, but it kept me hooked and I liked both main characters.
I hated Cara and Rick, so even though I would have liked to know a bit more about Grace and Jake, I won't keep reading the series.

Let's start with a little blackmail. Some lingering feelings. A little enemies to lovers. A fake marriage. Corrupt politicians. A little mystery/intrigue. And some craaaaaaaaaazy chemistry between the sexy senator and the attorney who wants to keep her spotless reputation!

The sparks fly between Jake and Grace. There's no denying their attraction. Blackmail throws them into a fake relationship and chemistry takes over from there. I loved watching them dance around their feelings. Grace is trying to keep her reputation in the legal field spotless. Jake is in the midst of his Presidential campaign. The "fake relationship" - is it really fake?

Side characters were also great and I can't wait to see who the next book in the series brings to us!

Such a disappointment -- hit and miss at every stage. Not much can be said for development in either storytelling or characters. I like political tropes but this one really didn't meet the criteria.

Hero was very sweet, posessive, alpha when they get together. But i really don't care for "i have loved you for years, but since you did not give me time of the day i fucked everything that moves"
Heroine was sweet, i did not mind she was somewhat naive and doormat. It worked for her

GF will not become first lady, theh were not even married. So weird..

AMAZING! I lost a whole day because of this book! I was completely sucked in from the very beginning and I could not put it down! Jake and Grace's story was epic! This is one of the best book hangovers I have ever had! All the feels, smoking chemistry, and the best banter! FIVE HUGE STARS!

Hot, sexy, and steamy.

The Senator’s Secret by Jennifer Rebecca was about a Senator running for President who convinces an attorney to be by his side for the campaign trail.

Even though this book was a typical format of romance novels, it was still a great read. Girl needs help from a man, he convinces her to be by his side in return for his help. Previous girlfriend tries to intimidate new girlfriend. And they fall in love after misunderstandings and arguments.

Regardless of the “typical romance”, this book had great characters, hot and steamy sex scenes, great writing, humor (magic penis 😉), and I am sure the author was an animal lover which just made me love the book even more. When the main character, Grace, has eight cats, you have to assume the writer is an animal lover....lol.

I enjoyed the fact that the author has added two more books to the series so that some of the characters will have a chance for their own happy ending. I know I’m definitely interested in Rick (Jake’s campaign manager) and Cara’s (Grace’s stylist) own love story. As well as the story behind Jules (Grace’s best friend).

Thank you to Jennifer Rebecca and BookSprout for the opportunity to read and review this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book.

The Senator’s Secret is book one in this author’s new Presidential Affair series. I quite simply adore Jennifer Rebecca’s stories. She never quite takes me down the path I think she’s going to take me, but each detour is so very worth it!

It’s a standalone story, but those of us that have read pretty much almost all of the books Jennifer Rebecca has written will enjoy the glimpses of some of our favorite heroes and heroines from other books. Nothing confusing to those that are just starting to read this author, but enough to make the rest of us nod our heads at the brief glimpses into the connections between everyone.

NICUnurse’s Rating: It’s a romantic suspense but I kinda saw the ending coming long before we got there. And that’s OK because it made this romance less dark than say her Claire Goodnite series. (Which is also fabulous, btw!) I’m afraid if I say much, it’s going to spoil this book, and it’s definitely one that you’ll want to read for yourself. It’s not written in a linear fashion, but there’s a purpose to how the book is laid out. And it’s kind of her signature, and I love it. At least for me, it’s part of the elements that keep me wanting to turn the page rather than turning off the light and going to bed before 3 am! Except I had to the first night because I fell asleep reading it no matter how much I wanted to keep going. (The iPad hitting my chin when it fell out of my hands was a rude awakening, just sayin’!) So suffice it to say, if you like romantic suspense that’s got some heat to it, you’re going to really enjoy this book.

I give The Senator’s Secret by Jennifer Rebecca 4.5 out of 5 stars!

This is Book 1 in A Presidential Affair Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. The storyline, the characters, and the author's writing style are quite good. It is a steamy romance, with a touch of mystery and intrigue, between lawyer Grace and Senator Jake. These characters are very different but likeable, the connection strong, the chemistry hot, and the unique plot makes for an enjoyable read. It is a romantic adventure with some drama, humor, and love, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Overall, it is a solid read with heart, heat and a happy ending.

This is the first book in this series and it was amazing. Grace is an headstrong, focused, lawyer and is very concerned about her image. Jake is a dimpled, former Navy SEAL that turned Senator. Grace has avoided Jake for years because he is dangerous to her heart. When Grace is being blackmailed with some slightly inappropriate pictures she has no choice but to turn the only person that can help her. This book is full of suspense, twist and turns. The chemistry between Grace and Jake is intense and off the charts hot. This book was great and looking forward to the next one in this series.

Book 1 in a stand-alone series.

This was also my first book by this author.

Grace is getting blackmailed and fears for her good reputation. So she’s trying to get help from Jake, the hot as hell sexy senator. The chemistry between these two is off the charts hot. But can get Grace herself to open up to the Senator’s idea how to help her?!

I enjoyed reading this book a lot. Some twists and turns you wouldn’t expect, nice amount of suspense.
It’s ‘only’ in Grace’s POV, which is not my favorite. But I can only speak for me!

I really loved that one and am looking forward to the next 2 books in the series! ❤️

I already figured out who's the blackmailer at the beginning but that didn't stopped me from loving it. Because the whole "mystery" part wasn't what drew me to this story primarily. I just love a sexy political romance and that was a really great one. 👍🏻😊

The Senator's Secret is everything I expect from Jennifer Rebecca. Off the charts chemistry between Grace and Jake is just the beginning. Banter, sexual tension, and soul deep feelings beyond the backdrop of politics makes this a romance that packs a punch.

The hot senator is running for President and is also a former SEAL. He needs a wife and knows exactly who he wants, but she has always ignored him, so he sets out to do something about it. She is being blackmailed even though she has always excelled at keeping a squeaky clean image as a lawyer with hardly any dating without a NDA signed by the guy. The only person she believes she can trust is the one person she has ignored every since he left the SEALs, but she is desperate. The chemistry is real between them and the sheets get very hot. Their journey leaves you not wanting to put the book down until you are finished.

In true Jennifer Rebecca fashion, this book was the right mix of snark, humor, angst, and romance. Though I will be honest it’s the snark and humor that keeps me coming back!

Grace is an headstrong, focused, lawyer that is concerned about her image. Jake is a dimpled, former Navy SEAL turned Senator, that is known to be a bit of a man whore. Grace has avoided Jake for years because he is dangerous to her heart and her lady bits! However, when Grace is blackmailed with slightly inappropriate pictures, she has to turn to the only person that can help...Jake.

What transpires is a less than conventional solution to the blackmail problem. Will they find the blackmailer? Will they come out unscathed? I will never tell.

What I will tell you is that Jennifer Rebecca brought her signature charm, sass, and humor to this light and funny romcom. There’s some angst, some misunderstandings and whole lotta great characters and storyline. We even get to see some characters from her previous series in this book, though you don’t need to read those to get the full value of this book.

So, the question is, do I recommend? Yep! I love Jennifer Rebecca and the characters. Will I keep reading! Yep, I can’t wait to see what happens next to Rick and Cara (and hopefully we get more Jake and Grace!)

Grace & Jake have been circling each other for years. She's a legal fixer & he's a former SEAL cum senator & Presidential hopeful.
Blackmail causes her to contact him& he proposes a marriage of convenience or is it? I thought the threats were a bit sus but you will need to read it to find out her betrayal. (Well in the end I guessed.)
This couple was smoking & you can feel their connection. Phew! Something that I like & keeps you invested in the story. Grace had a hard time coming to terms with his lifestyle & the hounding paparazzi. But I liked how Jake came to her rescue.
There's a bit of scheming, some angst. Their friends Cara & Rick show a lot of anomosity towards the other, which will make the next story interesting too!
If you like a steamy, powerful couple you'll enjoy this.

Wow. Amazing read! First off, this is very well written! Like really well written. I’m so impressed. I’ve never heard of this author before. I was initially going to read the second book in this series first Caught by the chief of Staff. Something told me that would be good. I had a gut feeling I should download it and it did not disappoint.

We follow Grace in a 1st and only person POV throughout her journey as a lawyer in NYC. She and the Senator, Jake have known each other for years ever since he came back from the SEALS mission he was on. They are in the same political circles and often run into each other.

I’ll let everyone enjoy this amazing book from there. It’s so good. Also, it’s every rare that you get complete sex scenes and a contemporary romance novel so bravo to this author. I absolutely loved everything about this book and love Jake and Grace.

I really enjoyed this story. It’s romantic and frankly very funny.
Grace is a successful lawyer with an unblemished reputation and Jake is a former SEAL, now Senator running for POTUS.
A compromised situation captured in a photo and a blackmail note, makes Grace ask Jake for help to safeguard her reputation.
He comes up with the brilliant idea of getting married, so Grace accepts the false engagement and goes to live with him.
But Grace’s incredible attraction to Jake and his abilities and charm, make staying away from his bed an impossible task.
Until Grace falls in love with him, but considering Jake’s fame as a womanizer, she thinks he doesn’t feel the same and that she will nothing more than a notch on his bed.
The identity of the blackmailer is quite clear from the beginning, but it’s a book that is going to give you a great time.

“Lucky for you I have an idea,” he says as he watches me to gauge my reaction, and I hope he fucking does have an answer, because I feel like I’m drowning without a life jacket. “And what would that be?” I ask. “I’m all ears.” “You marry me, of course. If we come out as a serious couple and eventually get engaged, no one will see you as another woman in my bed. You will be the only woman in my bed,” he explains. “No one will believe it,” I rationalize. “We can’t possibly get married,” I say for lack of anything else. “And why is that?” Chancellor counters. “People of our station get married all the time for political reasons.” “You sound like a historical romance novel,” I inform him. “‘People of our station.’ Who talks like that?” “I do. And it’s true. It’s not like I don’t admire you. I find you smart and driven, not to mention beautiful,” he says. “I know you turn me on and so do you, because you felt how hard I was last night when you were pressed up against me.”
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
“I said don’t do that again,” he growls as he boxes me in from behind. “I don’t know what you mean.” I’m sure I do, but I’m going to save face and gain some ground with him if it kills me, which it probably will. “I told you that I wanted your ass in my bed every night, and I will not repeat myself. Having to drag myself all the way across town to clean up someone else’s big fucking mess just as I’m about to finally get a taste of you did not make me happy,” he explains. “You weren’t happy?” I’m so confused. I’m tired, and nothing is making sense this morning. To be honest, nothing has made sense for a while now. “No,” he answers. “And then when I finally make it home, you’re locked away down the hall. But make no mistake that if you try that again, I’ll take the door off the fucking hinges.”

“Do not run from me,” he demands as he pumps harder. “No,” I whisper. “I will find you.” He plunges faster. This will be a hard and fast fuck, and it’s what we both need right now. Too many emotions are swirling too close to the surface. “Yes.”“And I will fuck you until you forget why you ran in the first place.” Oh fuck, fuck, I’m so close. This wild, primal way Jake commands me, owns me, has me spiraling higher and higher. “Jake,” I plead. “You’re mine.” “Yes,” I pant and cling even tighter to him. “Say it,” he demands as his movements become more erratic. “I’m yours,” I cry out, and then I come, with Jake following me over the edge.

First time reading this author and definitely will be my last. Fantastic plot, would've loved it had maybe another author wrote it. I was not a fan of the first person POV from the h Grace only. Her nattering monologues were headache worthy the more I read. At this point I have no idea how old she is, though I would assume early thirties at the most but her personality and inner thoughts portray her as a stammering teenager with a hate-crush on the H Jake aka "The Sexy Senator" just tact on with the big dick, handsome good looks or all the women in the tri-state area everytime she thinks of him and you've read about as much of the book as I have, folks.

Ugh, I was looking forward to the plot and the potential for political steamy goodness but this just was not it. The h Grace flip flopped in her head so much I'm sure she's actually a teenager playing dress up as a high end attorney. For all her "talk" of being a top notch attorney with a pure as snow reputation and her "girl boss" attitude she came across as pathetic. Never more so than when thinking of the H Jake. What a poor way to write your heroine and make her seem immature. She apparently didn't want to work with him because he's too good looking and she knows she'd just jump on his magic penis and hate herself because he's a one and done kind of dude and her poor wittle heart and pure as driven snow reputation couldn't stand to be another notch on his bedpost. Who is this supposedly intelligent and independent female?!? 🤦🙄💩

Maybe if the heroine wasn't such crap I'd have stuck with it because Jake was beginning to sound a little interesting despite.

DISAPPOINTING, FLAT AND BLATANTLY, HISTORICALLY INCORRECT!

Extremely disappointing. One of my favorite genres is a good romance with some politics thrown in to spike it up a bit. This one fell flat in so many ways. At times it really didn't even make sense. There wasn't much character development, not only of the protagonists, but the other characters as well. Characters were introduced to the story without explaining who they were or their relationship to the MC's.

The story itself actually had potential, but it never really evolved into anything of substance. A few nasty characters entered, who could have made this a lot more interesting, but they and their machinations just fizzled out.

All this really amounted to was a series of sex scenes with a bit (a tiny bit at that) of story thrown in.

AND HERE'S THE TOPPER NEGATIVE FOR ME!... How does an author make a blatant historical blunder and claim that John Fitzgerald Kennedy once held the seat of Senator from New York! He was the Senator from Massachusetts! His brother Robert F. Kennedy once held that seat in New York! SMH 🙅

I certainly won't be continuing with this series or this author. My advice: Skip this one... don't waste your time.

The Senator's Secret is a fitting read for this nation's election season. This story has a bit of everything that encompasses the best and worst that can occur when love and politics collide. There is intrigue, subterfuge, heartache, and tears enough to keep the story interesting. All of that is nicely balanced with humor, compassion, sweet romance, and smiles. Combine all of this with an intense chemistry between two of the most attractive people in the Nation's Capitol and one has everything one needs to pass a truly entertaining block of time.

The very best thing about The Senator's Secret is the very well-defined and loveable main characters. They are both intelligent and deserving of the love they have to give each other. The supporting characters are also a bright spot in this quick-moving and complex story.

Jennifer Rebecca has written a completely entertaining novel that captures the attention and stimulates the imagination from beginning to end.

Good read

This book had a good storyline and interesting plot. I enjoyed it, but I found that the heroine was too much on her own head. I would have liked to have seen more real interaction between the two of them and more backstory. More of Jake's POV would have helped the story. It could have done with less description of the wealth throughout the story. It is unnecessary to name drop so much for the reader to understand that the setting is one of wealth. Spend that time putting in more interaction and character development to improve the work. Overall this was a good story.
