The Forgotten Wife

Rate this book
It was a wooden box, white with yellow and green flowers. Shelley ran a finger over the embossed lettering – Memories – pressed her lips tightly together, feeling her heart pounding in her chest… and opened it.

When Shelley first met Greg, her life had been full of possibility. A whirlwind romance, a dream wedding, moving into their first house together, thinking about starting a family…

But now it’s ten years since their wedding. Greg has gone. And there’s a room in the house where Shelley has shut a baby blanket away. In a box, under a bed, in a spare room, behind a door that she never opens. If it’s there, she can forget about it. Just like everything else in that room. Just like her other memories. Of a marriage that perhaps hadn’t been perfect. Of a life that hadn’t gone the way she had expected.

She’s been managing to hide from her past. Every day she acts like everything is normal. Going to work and following a routine helps her pretend the bad stuff never happened.

Until one day, everything changes. She sees the couple moving in next door, giggling as they walk up the path to their new home. The woman is pregnant. It’s like she has everything that Shelley has lost. But when Shelley properly meets Lara, she soon discovers she is in fact carrying a heartache to match Shelley’s own.

As her friendship with Lara deepens, Shelley starts to wonder what might happen if she opens the box she’s hidden away. Will the secrets from her past – about what she lost, what she’s hiding from, and what she has been doing her best to forget – destroy her?

This is a very high emotionally charged story mostly involving two women who unexpectedly become very good friends.

As they reveal more things that has happened to them in their lives and they get to know each other more the relationship cements.

It’s by no means an easy read in places as you put yourself in each woman’s lives.

I enjoyed seeing this new pregnant neighbour becoming friends with the lady next door.

The inner most secrets and revelations weren’t shocking, more upsetting and encouraging as they supported each other.

It’s a bit of a “lump in your throat” kind of read sometimes, but there’s an awful lot of caring. I took that from this book.

Talking of books, there’s a book they go by, things that spark joy, and it made me think, there are physical items, people, things in life itself that doesn’t give us joy. So what should we do?

I watched as these two lovely women started to spark joy in their lives.

One part said, you had to ‘feel’ emotions to go forward, you just can’t slam it in a cupboard (physical cupboard or metaphorically speaking) and be able to go forward.

The book gave me all the “feels” as a female.

If you like a good read about friendships, relationships, grief, pregnancies, the ups and downs of life itself with being raw. This is the book for you.

I’ve discovered I do love this authors style of writing so I want to read more by this author for sure.

This s is a new author for me, but one that I will look out for as I devoured every word and thoroughly enjoyed this amazing book!!

Shelly meets her new neighbours Lara and her husband Matt. Shelly is still coming to terms with her husband leaving her a year ago and has a spare room full of his belongings.

Shelly and Lara gradually becomes friends, they are both hiding secrets from each other and are both feeling lonely and isolated. Lara offers to help her clear Shelley’s spare room as she is heavily pregnant and feeling bored at being home all day on her own. This chore is therapeutic for the pair of them.

The book is told from Shelly and Lara’s points of view. I loved the way their secrets were slowly revealed and how how this created a strong bond between the two neighbours.

A heartwarming story about the importance of friendship and trust. For me it was an emotional journey making me both laugh and cry.

I would definitely recommend this book and author!!

A beautiful and heartbreaking story about friendship, grief, and moving on. Bust out the Kleenex, this is a tearjerker! Two Women who come into one another’s life at the perfect time establish an unbreakable bond and find solace. Shelley is simply existing traveling between work and home, but never really living. Her husband Greg the love of her life left over a year ago and she can’t seem to MoveOn, she still has an entire room of his stuff that she can’t seem to get rid of. When Laura moves in next-door married and pregnant, Shelley is certain she has it all. But as the women begin to get to know one another they learn that they both have heavy burdens to bear. What transpires is a beautiful friendship built on honesty, trust, and respect.

A remarkable story about a special female friendship. I loved the friendship in this story. Both these women really got so much comfort and joy out of it. Loved how the tidying up book was incorporated into the story, thought that was a fun touch. As Shelley and Laura’s friendship develops and deep secrets are revealed they both begin to find more clarity in their lives. A moving story about the power of friendship.

This, once read, is probably not a book I would usually choose, its a book on how an unlikely friendship between 2 neighbours Shelley and Lara changes them both as they battle with their past and present day problems, to hint at those problems would give the story away so I wont!!

Saying that I DID enjoy it, it was a quick read but full, full to brimming tbh with emotional content and ‘situations’ but then right out of the blue ( when actually I was moaning in my head about how easy the main ‘secret’ of the book was going to be ) there was a massive change of direction and it will catch you, as it did me, unawares and it’s really clever and game changing for the book

Both Lara and Shelley are ok character wise, I think they will get empathy from all readers and their path to friendship is interesting in so much as they skirt around it then bang they are inseparable

A moving read covering many subjects that is well written and reader friendly and leaves you feeling good!

When a new couple moves in next door to Shelley, the wife, Lara wants to befriend her. Lara is pregnant and Shelley immediately feels deep pangs of loss. She is still grieving the fact that her husband Greg has left her. What is more is that she is hiding something special away, a baby blanket among the things.

Lara all but barges into Shelley's life. Before she knows it, Lara is helping her to declutter her home, with a book she read giving both women direction. Meanwhile, Shelley begins to notice things about Lara, even wondering about the state of her marriage. Their friendship grows closer, yet each woman is keeping secrets from the other.

The Forgotten Wife is a very good story that hits hard. I found a kinship with each woman and their losses. As we read the book, we are getting the story delivered in both of their perspectives. It is easy to see how two strangers could easily become so close. Grab some tissues, because they will definitely be needed. Despite the tears, the story ended with hope, so this delivered a very good balance. This is my second book by Emma Robinson and I highly recommend it. She writes deeply emotional stories that will stay with the reader for a very long time.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Robinson is fast becoming my go-to women's fiction novelist if I need a break from crime and psychological thrillers. She writes so well about female friendships, the early second guessing and insecurities that can feel almost like a courtship. Robinson recognizes how important kind, safe friendships are and how, if you want to have that kind of relationship with your friends, you need to take a leap of faith and learn to trust. Her books depart from the belief that, no matter what differences lie on the surface, you can always find a point of connection beneath if you're prepared to take the time to look deeper. She shows us that everyone has a story and that most people, no matter how blessed they appear, have been though something painful. Without retelling the story or giving any spoilers, this novel brings together two women at points of crisis in their lives and explores the painstaking process by which they attempt to find their way to one another and help each other face their respective challenges. It is a heart-warming, emotional read with real depth and it reminds the reader, as all Robinson's books do, that, yes, not everyone is perfect, but most people are fundamentally good. Right now, this feels like an important message.

4.5 stars - This one hit me hard in the feels! There were definitely a couple of "Oh NOOOOO!!!" moments where the rug gets pulled out from underneath you. So what's it about? Well, many things actually - losing yourself in your relationship, what happens when you're no longer a part of a couple, lost friendships, the importance of having that person you can tell all your secrets to, being afraid to open up because you feel your secrets are too big or your story is too sad but doing so anyway, figuring out who you are now and who you want to be. See, many things!! It was a deeply touching tale and I'm glad to have read it.

OMG. OMG. OMG. The author made me cry. I still had a book hangover when I started writing this review. There was still a lingering lump in my throat all through the day.

There are books which leave their wispy trails around you that remind you to find your happiness. This was one such book of friendship and bonding. It started with 2 women Shelley who met her pregnant new neighbor Lara, and both became friends. Shelly’s husband had left her a year ago, and she still had his belongings shut in a room. Both the women decided to get rid of it one by one. Secrets were revealed and friendship strengthened.

My first book by author Emma Robinson, and I enjoyed every word of the prose, even the ones which caused me to read through the film of my tears. Written in dual viewpoints, the author showed me how we women were so strong even when we never believed it. To see them finding their way through life was something I would cherish for a long time. Beautiful writing by the author.

The author’s words kept the intrigue of the secrets along with the growing trust between the women with each chapter. There were laughter and tears all interspersed as I read… Have to admit, a couple of tears made their way on the screen. Sighhh.

A beautiful story which had me turning the pages slowly, living each word, feeling each emotion, laughing and crying with them.

This author and book is a first for me.
This book shocked me alitte as i thought the title gave it away, the story, however it wasn't what i thought I was expecting but in a good way, and I was glad my first assumptions we're wrong.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I always like books that deal with real issues.
This book took me on a extreme emotional rollarcoaster ride and I felt like I felt for the characters in this book.
Shelly's life is abit up and down. She has become accustomed to her own routine, and she tries to manage and cope and takes everyday as it comes. To the outside world she's coping however inside she's screaming. Everyday she tries to act like everything is normal. Pretends.
When one day a new couple move in to her street and everything changes, the neighbour Lara is pregnant and it seems like she has everything. Shelly and Lara become firm friends who bond over heartache, and the women have more in common than first thought. They are both suffering without giving away any of this story.
This book deals with real issues that real people face, very sensitive matters.
The author has written this book extremely well and researched, it's written beautifully and watching the story unfold was amazing.
This book makes you feel a whole array of emotions. happy, sad, teary upset a completely rollarcoaster ride. The friendship and support that shines through between them both is beautiful and the author has written these characters great.
I couldn't put this book down it's fantastic but also a heartbreaking read, extremely emotional and will bring tears to everyone that reads it. I would highly recommend this book and the author and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Thank you netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this early copy of this book.

Although I am an Emma Robinson novice, I knew from the outset that this novel was going to be a wonderful read for me.

About the Book:
It was a wooden box, white with yellow and green flowers. Shelley ran a finger over the embossed lettering – Memories – pressed her lips tightly together, feeling her heart pounding in her chest… and opened it.

When Shelley first met Greg, her life had been full of possibility. A whirlwind romance, a dream wedding, moving into their first house together, thinking about starting a family…

As her friendship with Lara deepens, Shelley starts to wonder what might happen if she opens the box she’s hidden away. Will the secrets from her past – about what she lost, what she’s hiding from, and what she has been doing her best to forget – destroy her?

My Thoughts:
The Forgotten Wife is told from Shelley's and Lara’s viewpoints. I loved the way their secrets were slowly unveiled and the way this gradually created a strong bond between the two neighbours.

In this poignant and refreshing novel, Emma Robinson writes so well about female friendships and I soon found myself completely immersed in the lives of these two women. This is a heart-warming and emotional read with real depth, elegance and maturity in the writing. There is so much to keep the reader turning the pages and it was a riveting read right through to the fulfilling ending.

The Forgotten Wife is a must for anyone who is partial to a compelling tale about friendships, relationships, grief, loss, and life's vagaries.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my request, from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

What a heartbreaking but also uplifting read!

"Some friendships are short, only lasting while you have circumstances in common......other friendships last longer - you make a real connection. But there are some friends who are there for the long haul"

This is a story about love and lost. A story about two broken women both broken in their own way. Its a story about trying to survive from 1 day to the other; of never giving up and of miracles.

It is beautifully written with so much empathy and it makes you feel thankful for what you have in life

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Shelley's husband left a year ago but she has a room filled with boxes of memories that she has yet to get rid of. Her days are all spent doing pretty much the same thing and she is fine with it. Then a couple moves in to the house next door, Shelley is not keen to get too close with her new neighbors, however Lara, the wife, is expecting and lonely. She decides to help Shelley declutter the box room with the aid of a book she is obsessed with. Slowly the two women form a bond and eventually realize they have more in common than they thought.

If you're looking for a book with a surprise twist or shock factor, this book is not for you. Whatever "surprises" this book held were very predictable, at least for me. However, if you want a feel good story about friendship and moving forward, this was a nice quick read. I didn't care for either character through the first half of the book, but they eventually grew on me.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC copy of this book.

I enjoyed this book however it was not quite the story I expected from the title or cover. I found the story to be heart-wrenching at times as it deals with very real emotional events and gave the feeling of an emotional roller-coaster at times. The main characters, Shelley and Lara, became very real quite quickly inside my head and the author gives clues that there are secrets hidden below the surface. As they become friends it is clear each one is shielding themselves from secrets of the past that they are not ready to share. The author cleverly hints but never gives too much away throughout the book keeping the reader on edge, hoping the next chapter will bring answers. The author also writes about real issues in an lovely sensitive manner which makes this a beautifully written story of real people and real fears. Be prepared for all emotions, happy, sad, tears and laughs. It is a strong story of friendship and support. I highly recommend this book and the author, Emma Robinson, and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

When I find an amazing book by an author I haven’t read before – it’s a real treat. When I find that she has a large number of books already published – even better! The Forgotten Wife is Emma’s fifth novel and it’s just beautiful. Having not read Emma’s books before I wasn’t sure of the style of the novel to begin with – as in, I was wondering if this was going in a Thriller direction or something different. Emma wrote with a lot of emotion and did this extremely well. The book covers a lot of subjects and difficult topics to address both in real life and through the written word so to achieve the handling of these in such a good way is brilliant. I won’t say too much more without giving away a lot of the book though.

Emma writes beautifully – vivid scenes, carefully constructed relationships and brilliant characters. Secrets are kept until they need to unravel and Emma paints these within the story well. This is a great choice for kick-starting your reading year with something new and different.

This novel is an intriguing portrait of neighbours becoming friends. Their approach is tentative when they begin to converse. Shelley is reticent, negative, not coping emotionally and is consumed with past trauma, whereas Lara is a more eager participant. Both women have past traumas which take a while to be revealed. I became immersed in the lives of these two women. It’s fascinating how Shelley and Lara eventually learn to trust, like and open up to each other. I'm not a huge fan of self-help books but grudgingly admit that "Make way for joy" had its place in this scenario. The changes and influences the friendship wrought were heartfelt. The dialogue and narrative were exceptional in opening up their reservations and advancing the fragile start to their friendship. My favourite quote from this book would be, “In order to heal, you have to feel.” This resonated with me in spite of never experiencing their problems. I think it expresses well that people may seem unfriendly and unapproachable, but there’s a reason, and they deserve a chance. It’s like the old adage that you can’t tell a book from its cover, for instance. Refreshing, food-for-thought, poignant book with REAL characters. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

This is the first book I’ve read by Emma Robinson, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. At first I didn’t think Shelley and Lara were going to get along. Shelley appeared to be the type of person who liked to keep to herself, while Lara was a bit more outspoken and pretty much forced herself into Shelley’s life. But it seemed as though it worked out in each other’s favor, as they were both still healing from losses and needed someone to confide in.

Emma Robinson did a great job of leading me to believe this story was going to go in one direction, but as she began to reveal more of the secrets these characters had buried deep inside, I realized the story was going in a completely different direction. One that was full of pain and heartache and it became clear while these two women grew closer to one another that they hadn’t fully coped with their losses.

Overall, I really liked this book. The pacing of the story and manner in which pivotal scenes were revealed was done very well. I also loved the friendship that developed between Shelley and Lara and the little bit of humor that was thrown in there to take away from the dark clouds that hovered over them. I do wish there was a bit more at the end to bring the story full circle though.

I am of two minds about this book. I became engrossed in it, and found it difficult to put down. And yet, I felt somewhat disappointed at the end.

Two women, each with a troubling secret about her past, become neighbors when pregnant Lara and her husband move in to a house next to Shelley, a woman who is withdrawn and sad. The two become friends, gradually trusting each other with details of their backgrounds, and becoming closer than either expected they would. There are some highly charged emotions being examined here, and with the revelations about their respective lives are shattering. The characters are developed beautifully, and as you learn more about each, your opinion of them changes.

Where the book breaks down for me is a little more than halfway through. By that point, the major revelations about Lara and Shelley have been told, and the remainder of the book is a bit too predictable for my taste, with all the loose ends tied up in neat packages.

Because of the predictability, I can only give this otherwise wonderful book 3 stars.

The Forgotten Wife is a moving story about neighbors who develop a close relationship. They are supportive and help each other work through tragedies each experienced prior to their meeting. Their developing closeness and, eventually, trust that slowly began to build allowed them to share their burdens with each other. Their journey is very real and the exquisite details provided by the author gives the reader a believable glimpse into the lives of Lara and Shelley. Thank you to NetGalley.

Spoilers ahead, but first a foreword:

I know Emma "in real life" - we're Nano buddies and have done a local book festival together too. I try and support her when my health allows because not only is she an exceptional human, she's a great writer too. She's supportive and intelligent and our kids are roughly the same age.

And with all that in mind, I could easily throw 5 stars her way with every book - she's great with humour and emotional scenes, her characters are very real - but I just want to ascertain that despite knowing Emma, I will be reviewing this book as I hope I have all her other books - fairly and impartially. Which is why this book isn't a 5 star for me (sorry, Emma!)

The forgotten wife sounds like a misnomer when you read the story, but it does play really well into on red herring. The story revolves around Shelley, who has lived on her own for a year after an ... incident with her husband. It also concerns Lara, who recently moved next door and has a seemingly overbearing husband. The story tracks the two as their friendship grows and their pasts come out, strengthening their bond and explaining their behaviours.

So, now to spoilers: The forgotten wife sounds like one of these women has been left. All signs point to Shelley, who has a room full of her husbands stuff, and keeps avoiding her ex-best friend (an affair?! He ran away with the best friend?! Actually ... no. That floored me. Honestly, most of my stars rating is because I fully believed that was what happened and when it turned out the friend WAS. HIS. SISTER. I was like, okay, I need to know what happened. Why they were no longer friends. Why they split up ... dammit Emma, that was an amazing move!). Hence why the title feels like a misnomer at the end of the novel but totally helps you invest in the plot twist. It's freaking genius.

In reality though, these are two women united by a near identical situation: they have both miscarried, and now both feel they can't talk with their partners, for different reasons. It's painful for them both, but as they reveal their stories, they come to rely on each other. Which I love too, because no woman in this story is down on another, they all build each other up and try and support each other and yep, totally how it should be.

I haven't miscarried, but I know others who have. I probably most identify with the throwaway line about the 17YO mother (I was 22 when I had my son, but looked 15. The stink eye I got from other women!) and as a result, I think I identified more with the friends who had young kids who didn't know what to say that are mentioned. It's difficult not to feel like you're rubbing it in their faces when someone is trying and not getting there and it just happened for you when you weren't even planning for it in the first place. To that end, I think Emma did a great job of portraying what it was like, how motherhood becomes a fraught subject so easily, and how common it is not to get pregnant or stay pregnant.

My mother was a NICU nurse when I was growing up, and I remember Christmas mornings going to pick her up and being allowed in the entrance area only due to the sensitive immune systems of preemies. Another thing Emma nailed, I was really glad to see that represented.

But here's the thing that made me drop a star. At a couple of points, there are references to Shelley having been on antidepressants and how that altered her behaviour and I wish there had been something more on this. I've been on citalopram for a couple of years now, and I am not the zombie described in it. Those pills give me the baseline to be able to function as a human being and it could be somewhat damaging/triggering to someone who might be taking them reluctantly to read that. Antidepressants are not a bad thing or a shameful thing and it upset me somewhat to see the way they were handled in the narrative. They have given me my life back, not taken it away.

I was so excited for this book and the wait was completely worth it!! I absolutely loved Emma's last book and had no doubt this would be just as amazing.

I read this along with a couple of friends and it was great fun guessing what was going to happen next. Safe to say I was wrong about everything! This book is filled with surprises!

The story is about two woman who are dealing with their own losses. They become friends when Lara introduces Shelley to a book she believes could help her. As their friendship grows we learn more about their pasts which were both shocking and emotional.

I have gasped, laughed and cried throughout the book. It is a fantastic read that I could not put down! I cannot recommend Emmas books enough!

Well, when you see a new book by Emma Robinson you just know it is going to be nothing short of fabulous. And The Forgotten Wife is no exception.

We meet Shelley and Lara who make an unlikely friendship over the losses that they have both suffered. They bond over a book (I think Emma has watched too much Marie Kondo) and they end up finding themselves within each other.

Watching the friendship unfold, and seeing them get closer and the support they give during every aspect of their lives makes me want to make this duo a trio.

The book is heartbreaking, eye-opening and also hilarious in places. If you read one book this year, make it this. Because I am going to be recommending it to everyone on publishing day!

I love settling down for an Emma Robinson read. Nobody writes female friendships and family relationships as well as she does. The Forgotten Wife focuses on two women who are both struggling/in pain. Together, they learn to open up, to navigate the past and to live in the present and look to a brighter future. The Forgotten Wife is full of Emma Robinson's trademark style and humour. There was lots of playfulness about the book 'Make Way for Joy' - a kind of Marie Kondo-lite - and there was her characteristic 'feel-better' ending. I massively recommend this heart-warming book - it is one which absolutely chases the blues away and it presents a great argument for authenticity and about letting good people into your life.

The Forgotten Wife is a poignant, soulful and uplifting story about tragedy, heartache, rediscovering yourself and the power of friendship. I devoured this book in just a few hours, the beautiful writing and addictive story making it impossible to tear myself away until the end.

The story is narrated by Shelley and Lara and begins the day Lara and her husband Matt move into the house next door to Shelley. They start to get to know each other, each secretly wishing they could just be alone as they are both nursing secret pain that is crippling their lives. As they get closer the two very different women learn they are more alike than they realised and that the other could be just what they need to help them heal their broken hearts.

Shelley and Lara were wonderful characters. Shelley has isolated herself since her life imploded when her husband, Greg, left her a year ago. She’s angry, bitter and finding it hard to move on like she knows she should. She’s put up a wall to prevent any further pain from people leaving so she’s not exactly warm and welcoming when Lara moves next door and seems to want to get to know her. Lara and her husband Matt are expecting their first child and have a blissful, perfect life that Shelley envies. But Matt fusses over Lara and won’t let her do anything, and Lara is avoiding her friends so she doesn’t have to face what she calls the worst time in her life. They are very different - Shelley is introverted, quiet and indecisive, while Lara is confident, outgoing and focused. At least that is how it seems. A they grow closer their full selves are revealed as they feel able to share the truth about themselves and their pain. I connected to both women and things they went through and loved the warm and wonderful friendship they shared.

I am a big believer in some books coming to you when they’re supposed to, and this one came at exactly the right time for me. Though there was a lot in this book that should have made it a painful and difficult read for me I actually found it a therapeutic experience and I know a part of that is the talent of the author. Robinson has a knack for getting into your soul and breaking your heart while uplifting you and giving hope at the same time. She is an exquisite storyteller whose prose is tender, beautiful, clever and addictive. One of the twists was so surprising it had my jaw on the floor and turned everything I thought I knew upside down.

The Forgotten Wife is an emotional, powerful and wondrous novel that I can’t recommend highly enough. Just be warned that you’ll need tissues at the ready as it pulls on your heartstrings again and again. My love for Robinson’s writing is now solidified and her books are now on my auto-buy list. I just need to get myself emotionally prepared in time for the next one.

This is not the first book which I have read by this author. Whilst I was totally prepared for a story which would grip me from the first page, I wasn’t expecting such a heartfelt and emotional read! The other books that I’ve read have felt to me to be a bit more light-hearted and saw me with tears in my eyes through laughing, but this book had me reaching for the tissues because of the feelings that the author managed to get within almost every page! Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a depressing read…far from it!! There were certainly parts that had me smiling, laughing even, but it definitely tugs at the heartstrings as well.

This is a story about love, loss and loneliness. The big main theme running all the way through the book though is friendship. Shelley and Lara are neighbours. Shelley is trying to come to terms with her husband leaving her when pregnant Lara moves in next door and wants to be friends. I loved both of these characters but in different ways. I just wanted to give Shelley a big warm hug as she just really needed one! She knows she should be moving on in life, but it’s just so difficult for her. Having been there myself I could totally empathise and understand where Shelley was at this stage in her life. Lara, to me, was really full on and I wasn’t sure whether I really liked that, but as you found out more about her it seemed that the confident person she came across as was just a front and there was much more hidden underneath.

As the story moved on it was obvious that whilst both women were becoming strong friends, they were also keeping secrets from each other. The author kept the intrigue going of what these secrets were all the way through the book. I really wanted there to be a happy ending for them both, but before you find out whether there is, I’m afraid you have to ride that rollercoaster through the twists and turns of Shelley and Lara’s life first! This was a beautifully written book, which had me hooked from the beginning and not wanting to put the book down. It had so many things in it which I could relate to, and probably so could many more, and left me thinking about it long after I’d finished. Would definitely recommend reading this book!!

First, I want to thank Emma Robinson, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Emma Robinson did it again in The Forgotten Wife and touched my heart so deeply that I couldn’t stop ugly crying out of compassion to what these characters were going through. This is one of the reasons that I love her writing so much. She writes from the heart and has passion for her characters she writes.

Immediately, I totally fell head over heals in love with this cover! Not only was it beautiful the meaning was perfect for this book. I am a huge fan of butterflies as they have multiple meanings to me personally. So, when I saw this and who wrote the book I knew this was a must read book and I was right.

Emma wrote about some extremely important yet difficult topics in this book that were emotional in nature. Some were hard for me to read as I had total compassion for the characters. However, at the same time I couldn’t imagine how hard it must have been for Emma to write this story. This book, the characters, and storylines seemed very close to her heart as she wrote everything so passionately. Not only did I want to hug the characters but Emma as well. If I was crying, I can’t imagine how she was holding up writing some of the scenes.

I did have a huge laugh. This is no joke. One of my favorite boy bands just like Shelley’s is NSYNC. I was working out listening to a song on the Celebrity album while reading that part of the book.
I loved and appreciated the bond between the two-woman Lara and Shelley and the similarities they later they found out they had. Each lady helped eachother grow and heal as the story went on. It was a beautiful friendship that they had.

Emma gave her readers a few life lessons to think about in The Forgotten Wife.
