The Christmas Baby Bargain

Rate this book
Christmas in Big Sky country…

Christmas has never been a big deal to event planner Emily Henderson. Holidays were for kids with families, not a girl whose big brother was the only thing keeping her out of a foster home. But now, her brother and his wife are gone—and the only family she has left is their little girl, Natalie. And Emily’s determined to give the child everything she never had. There’s only one problem… Natalie’s sexy maternal uncle.

Stockbroker turned lodge owner Carson McBride isn’t letting Emily take his niece anywhere. But it’s Christmas, so he offers a truce—Emily can spend the holidays at the lodge with him, his father, and Natalie, and they’ll figure out custody in the New Year. He’s sure Emily will realize that Montana is the best place for their niece to grow up.

Only, during the next week, the one thing Emily and Carson realize is that they can’t keep their hands off each other! But even as they grow closer—much, much closer—they’re still at an impasse. Will Emily leave with Natalie or will she give her niece up to Carson? Or will this unconventional family get a true Christmas miracle?

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book opens five days after Emily learns her brother has died in a plane crash, along with his wife, leaving behind a three month old daughter. She goes to the home of Carson, who was her late sister in law's brother, to bring her niece back with her. She soon learns Carson also wants custody.

Despite the interesting premise, this is a formula romance filled with cliches. Five days after her brother's death, Emily is fantasizing over Carson's "luxurious hair, long legs, and broad shoulders," when in reality anyone else would be deep in grief. The flirting and kissing start almost immediately. More cliches as they both end up visiting Carson's sauna at the same time, clad only in a towel. Not much of a surprise. Then to top it all off, she secretly watches him chopping wood. Really. The inevitable sex follows and the story ends in a way that anyone can figure out. Remember she has recently lost her brother and he has lost his sister, and the baby has lost her parents. There is only superficial discussion of grief, not the mind numbing, paralyzing grief most people would be feeling. It was disappointing.

A lovely Christmas romance with complex characters.
There are plenty of the elements we love in our holiday romances, all the snow and cozy fires you want, but the cast of characters included some surprises. The hero's father is ill, for one thing, and stubbornly avoiding the hospital, and I had not predicted the reasons behind the heroine's determination to return to her career in L.A. This was the first novel I've read by Pam Mantovani, but it won't be my last!

Received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review
A sweet story featuring a deeply emotionally wounded heroine and a hero with doubts of his own, “The Christmas Baby Bargain”, by Pam Mantovani (Bell Bridge Books), is full of Christmassy spirit and shows that family can be made up in the most different and unexpected ways.
Carson and Emily are very relatable characters and their romance has been simmering until longing turns into intimacy and sex in a very natural way. Emily has a broken past of loneliness and misery and she surely deserves happiness. It’s lovely to watch her character grow and blossom while the self-preservation barriers collapse against the backdrop of the Montana snowy winter and with Carson’s gentleness.
I liked how Carson and Emily they took time to balance their opposite lifestyles and loved the interactions with the baby and Carson's dad.
I felt there was a bit of redundancy with, for instance, Emily’s medical issue and the intimacy scenes, but overall this was an enjoyable read with great characters, including a baby girl and an older man.

Emily henderson rocked her three month old niece Natalie asleep. She should put Natalie in the crib and try to get some rest herself, she continued to rock. Natalie was all Emily had left for family. Five days ago had begun in sunny L A weighing the potential phase of her career, debating looking for another event planner position with another company versus taking the leap and buying the business from her current employer. Now she battled grief in unfamiliar surroundings. “You’re going to spoil her” Carson McBride said. She was surprised for the man. He had all the qualities any woman would notice. His features shows signs of sleepless grief. It was hardly surprising since they buried his sister and her brother two days ago. Eight weeks earlier they had stood side by side as godparents at Natalie’s christening. Now three weeks before Christmas they shared the terrible bond of each having lost a sibling in a plane crash. It triggered her heart to hear Carson’s exposed feelings. Carson owned and managed a hunting and fishing lodge and he’d handled all the arrangements and details since the plane crash. She’d willingly let someone else take control. Carson called ehr Sunshine and Emily hated the way her body responded every time he used that endearment that he’d tagged on her more than two years earlier. She wanted to leave Montana and take Natalie back with her.If she hadn’t put a halt to one memorable kiss, she would have first hand knowledge of whether Carson snored or not. She had felt a tingle on their first introduction. Thereafter, whenever their paths crossed, she’d been strongly aware of him, especially when she turned to discover him staring at her. Than the weekend of natalie’s christening he’d drove her back to the airport. After he removed her luggage and then he kissed her. She’d never forgotten the taste of him. Carson said Natalie was staying with him and Emily said no. Carson felt an intense attraction to Emily. He didn’t understand why she appealed to him. Carson let her know he had power of attorney over Natalie for the next six months. Then he asked Emily to stay at the lodge through the holidays. Natalie’s first Christmas without her parents. From an early age, Emily’s life depended on what needed doing. Her father had been a demanding man and Emily’s mother had deferred to his every mood and and command. Than when Emily was ten her father left and at eighteen Daniel got a job to support them. Emily did the cooking, shopping, and cleaning in addition to school. Her mother sat waiting for Emily’s father to return. Five years later her mother passed away. Daniel had been the one constant in Emily’s life. Sam- Carson’s and Suzanne's father cooked breakfast and gave Emily a lot of food. She remembered how once she’d used food as a comfort as a shield against the loneliness and misery she faced. It would be easy to slip back in the pattern to take her mind off the loss. Emily wondered what it was about Carson that fascinated her so. She had found out there was a good chance she’d never give birth. The man who she thought was the one soon left her after finding out about her lack of a good chance of having a baby calling her half a woman. Emily hadn’t allowed anyone close since that could hurt her like that again. Emily knew Carson wasn’t the kind of man she was usually attracted to. He was too confident and could always somehow make her question who she was and what she wanted.
Excellent book. I loved this book and read this in one setting as I didn’t want to put this down. I loved Emily and Carson together and how they interacted. I loved Pop and Natalie and how they added to this book. I loved the ending. I loved the pace and plot.I loved that Emily and Carson didn’t indulge in instalustbut their bond grew as did their feelings. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

4.5 Stars!

I really enjoyed The Christmas Bargain by new to me author Pam Mantovani. This book is about Los Angeles event planner Emily Harrison, and Carson McBride, a Montana lodge owner that used to earn an good living as a stock broker in New York City. Emily's brother and Carson's sister were happily married, until they tragically lost their lives. Natalie, Emily and Carson's infant niece, is now their responsibility.

Emily and Carson both want custody of Natalie, but are willing to put their animosities aside during the holiday season. Emily finds the cold Montana climate a bit difficult, however, her attraction to Carson keeps her warm. Carson enjoys Emily's company as well, and as they grieve together and take care of Natalie together, they fall into lust and love. Carson's dad encourages their relationship, and Emily looks up to him as the father she always wanted.

This is a well-written, emotionally charged book with three engaging characters. Ms. Mantovani passionately combines emotion, friendship, and sexy times into this romantic story. I immediately connected with both Emily and Carson, and there was never a moment that I did not want them to form a family. Emily's sad and unusual childhood tugged at my heart. Overall, this is a terrific book with a happy ending that will leave a smile on your face.

The Christmas Baby Bargain is the latest offering by author Pam Mantovani. Emily Henderson and Carson McBride we’re present for the christening of their niece Natalie and named as godparents just a few weeks ago. Now that her brother Daniel and his sister Suzanne have been lost in a small plane crash, they are pitted against each other as to who gets custody of the sweet baby, Los Angeles Emily or Montana Carson. Soon after the funeral, Carson proposes a Christmas truce whereby Emily will stay with Carson, Natalie, and his Pop at their Montana lodge through Christmas.

They are from different worlds with different priorities with the exception of Natalie’s wellbeing. As they wend their way from Thanksgiving to Christmas, Emily and Carson discover an intense attraction. But she will be returning to LA right after Christmas, returning to a high powered event planning position and the possibility of purchasing the company. After the first of the year, hunting and fishing trips will resume at the lodge. And they will once again be torn by job demands.

This is a sweet story of loss and the wake that follows. But Emily and Carson have much to gain if they can just maneuver this new path. With multifaceted characters and beautifully described surroundings, this book will touch the heart. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!

· Writing Quality: 5 stars
· Story ingredient: 5 stars
· Ease of reading/Pace: 5 stars
· Plot strength: 5 stars
· Steam Level: 3 (open door scenes but not explicitly graphic)

Notes/Opinion (personal):

I enjoyed this sweet read. Two people - in a tragic situation - but willing to work together for what's best. Romance was not rushed (but of course it's a book and therefore, limited time allowed) but very comfortable with growth. No overly graphic scenes but nicely done. I very much enjoyed the story and the ending.

A Christmas to Remember

Emily and Carson are brought together for their baby neice, the daughter of her brother and his sister, after her parents' deaths in a plane accident. Baby Natalie will be celebrating her first Christmas, but without her parents.

Childhood experiences shape and influence our lives much longer than we care to admit. This is very true for both Emily and Carson. Their pasts make it difficult for them to let down their defences and find common groung. Yet both passionately want what is best for baby Natalie. If only they could agree on what that best should look like.

You will get sucked into the warmth of this family and the traditions of their holiday season in the cold and snowy woods of Montana. This is a great book to curl up in a chair with your favorite holiday beverage and laze a day away.

The Christmas Baby Bargain by Pam Mantovani is a wonderful Christmas themed story that starts out with tragedy but evolves into a heart-warming and insightful tale of two damaged souls with different outlooks on life and the need to overcome their disparities for the sake of an innocent child.

Ms Mantovani excels in her ability to bring reality and credibility to her stories and this one is no exception. I enjoyed following the natural progression of Carson and Emily’s relationship from adversary to tolerance and then finally love. Some extra special moments in the book with the interactions between Carson’s dad and the adorable Natalie.

I’m sure other readers will gobble this book up in one sitting just as I did.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. So there were some parts of this book that I liked but there was a lot that I didn't. I'll start with the good. I thought they were a cute couple and I liked the premise of the book. I always like a good book involving a baby, so many cute moments that come about because of that baby. Moving on to the things I didn't like. I didn't really like how stubborn he was and my biggest issue with the book was that there were too many issues. I felt like the author didn't know how to create a story without throwing like a million things into the pot and stirring. There was just simply too much going on and it clouded the actual love story between Emily and Carson. Overall, I give this book 2.5 stars.

Emily's brother and his wife have died and left behind a daughter, Natalie. Emily wants to give Natalie the life she didn't have growing up. However, Natalie's Uncle Carson also thinks that he will be the best person for Natalie to live with. They agree to stay with Carson over Christmas and deal with the custody issue in the new year. Carson hopes that this will convince Emily that his lodge is the best place for Natalie to grow up. But what they don't plan for is how much they are attracted to each other, will this change their minds on the custody issue or not?

I enjoyed this book, it is a lovely story and I would recommend reading it.

A New Beginning . . .

This was such an emotionally satisfying story. Event planner Emily Harrison and Carson McBride, now the owner of a Montana lodge, have their world turned upside down when a tragic accident claims the lives of Emily's brother and Carson's sister. Now baby Natalie’s parents were gone. Both Emily and Carson want custody, but for now, Carson has her through a Power of Attorney and has invited Emily to stay with him and his dad over the holidays.

Emily and Carson care for Natalie together and gradually their attraction turns to something more. Carson's dad is supportive of their budding relationship and is the loving father figure Emily had needed in her life. Is this new dynamic strong enough to bring them all together as a family?

I really enjoyed this sweet Christmas romance! I found the two main characters, Emily and Carson, to be very relatable and endearing. Carson’s dad, Pops, is quite the character.
The beginning of the story revolves around the death of Emily’s brother and Carson’s sister and who will get custody of their baby daughter, Natalie.
This is very heartwarming, sweet Christmas story full of romance, hope and love.
I loved the ending. Perfect Christmas story♥️full of Christmas joy.

This was the first book I have read by this author and wow was it great. It was such an emotional rollercoaster. One minute I was sad and then laughing because of Emily’s witty comments about the cold! I loved the characters and could feel their emotions and feelings for Natalie. Emily and Carson both wanted what was best for Natalie but had different ideas of what that would be. It broke my heart when Emily decided to give up the custody battle, knowing that if Carson lost Natalie it would hurt him while she would just return to her normal life. The book was a wonderful Christmas romance with a great family touch.

This is by far my favorite Christmas romance. Filled with hope, love, miracles and a sweet, cuddly baby this book will become your favorite too. Pam writes with an understanding of the relationship between a man and a woman and then adds just enough conflict, tension and magic to help them become a family. You can't help but fall in love with them too. It's one I will read again and again.

Emily is about to purchase the event planning company from her boss when her brother and his wife are killed in a accident and she goes to help her late sister-in-law's brother Carson who currently has baby Natalie. This is a sweet romance between two different people who want the best for Natalie and soon realize that they both want so much more.
