Her Missing Marquess

Rate this book
Nell, Lady Needham, has earned her scandalous reputation by devoting her days to an endless barrage of wild parties in the wake of her husband’s devastating betrayal. But her appetite for distraction is no longer as voracious as it once was. She longs for a true marriage and a family, and she has finally found just the man to give her both. All she has to do is convince the Marquess of Needham to grant her the divorce she requires so she can move on.

Three years ago, Jack ruined his marriage in a moment of drunken stupidity. He gave his wife the distance she wanted and deserved in an effort to atone for his sins. But when she writes him requesting a divorce so she can marry another man, he realizes the time has come for him to return home and attempt to reclaim the woman he’s never stopped loving.

Nell has no intention of giving Jack a second chance, for the pain he caused her runs far too deep. When her handsome husband begins a war of seduction to regain her trust, she is determined to remain impervious as ever. But old temptations prove difficult to resist, and this time, Jack isn’t going to give her up without a fight. He’ll do anything to prove her heart is still his, even as his past sins threaten to consume them both.

Marriage and Meltdowns

Wow. I wasn't going to read this based on reviews but I thought I'd was amazing. Jack is the perfect hero and I loved how much he loved her. They were separated for three years because she thought he betrayed her. She was very jealous and she caught him in bed with another woman. I understood her hate! I understood her attitude to him! Many people said she was awful but cheating destroys you. It eats away at your soul. It took a while for her to heal. If he would have stayed and fought for her I think it would have been better but then there wouldn't be such a marvelous love story. Jack was so ashamed of what happened and he also hated himself for what he did. You felt it. And that idiot she wanted to marry was such a bore I can't believe she wanted him. I did not like all the graphic intimate scenes

A lot can be said for intense, passionate love.
Firstly, that's its not that commonly seen in rom-fiction.
Secondly, it's easy to go overboard.
So, have to give it to the author that she does it well and gives us a love so passionate that it turned to hate.

Hmm, I cannot believe I’m writing these words... is it possible a hero can grovel too much?

I’ve read books 1 and 2 of this series, which were okay, but I wanted to see where the author would go to redeem the husband that after being caught cheating and left (because she asked him to go), leaving behind a wife that became infamous for her notorious house parties.

He’s gone 3 years and in those three years she’s become a Victorian version of a wild child, very notorious, questionable morals and has decided she wants a divorce so she can marry elsewhere.

Now he’s back, doesn’t want a divorce, he wants his wife back.

The entire book is the grovel, there’s no other real conflict, it simply goes on and on.

Interesting spoilers...

1. Their separation is triggered at a house party they were hosting, an incredibly drunk hero wakes with an incredibly drunk woman in his bed, he thinks it’s his wife and the wife walks in before anything really happened.
2. He thinks she’s had numerous lovers, but still wants her back.
3. She may have hosted the house parties, but she was celibate the entire time.
4. He comes back a tea totaler and has also been celibate.

So, the entire book is him apologizing for something that didn’t really happen and her deciding whether or not she can forgive him. 2.5 stars rounded down.

I've always known angsty romances aren't my thing - but I was hoping this book would be funny, since the one before this had some humor in it. but the whole story was SO repetitive. they had the same argument for 95% of the book while alternating between bouts of hate-sex. and then the last part they made up. if you like angst this is for you

I never thought I’d say that there is such a thing as too much groveling but good lord. She made him repeat himself a thousand times and refused to believe him to the point where I was exhausted at times.

I love this series!! I've read this entire series and waited for Nell and Jack's story. It was definitely worth the wait!!
This is a lovely romance about two imperfect people. A painful mistake separated Lady Nell and Lord Jack for years, and his return will make their love that much stronger, with love scenes to melt your screens!!
When Jack returns after years separated, he finds his wife and her lover having a party! She is surprised and confused to discover he is back, and assumes he is going to grant her a divorce.
He is determined to change her mind, and oh I love how tries! After all isn't true love is unbreakable?
Nell is a strong heroine, she's an independent and no-nonsense Lady, but at times I found her to be a bit too hard headed. Jack is a different man, he regrets leaving and is firm on saving his marriage and his love, Nell.
This storyline is so well written, I love how she always pays attention to details. The story has secrets, misunderstanding, and lots of mistakes on both sides. Their emotions for each, their steamy love scenes, everything in this romance is captivating!
I loved, I enjoyed their story so much! I also love how the characters from one of my favorite book in this series are mentioned, Maggie and Simon, Lord Sandhurst!!!
Jack wages a war of romance, seduction and in doing so, he's also trying to regain her trust, because he truly loves her. Such an incredibly good read, and a yummy series!
ARC given for an honest review.

Repetitive and boring. I had high expectations for this one because, in other books in the series, Nell was introduced as the carefree organizer of wild parties. Jack was introduced as the cheating husband who cheated on her with one of her best friends.

I was expecting a wild and torrid romance between two wild and carefree people, but this was just a repetitive cycle where Jack had to say 2828272828 times that the cheating was a misunderstanding. Nell is not a reveler after all; she bluffs the whole book by using Tom (another man she wants to marry when Jack gives her a divorce). Anyway, this is one of the most boring second-chance romances I've read, despite the sex scenes.

The ducks and the husband always worrying about Nell like she's a hothouse flower (with foot blisters, sunburn, etc.) made me roll my eyes quite a bit.

IMPORTANT THING : Thank God the notifications are back 🙏🏻. I can't believe it😂😂

So the story was pretty good.
I liked the whole concept I just wish it had the detailed background story of the couple.
Somewhere in between that 'cheating' part of Jack felt too overrated but still I managed to cops up with it.

Their chemistry was definitely hot..
Both the characters have their own different personalities which attracted me to them.

Overall a good book.

4.5 stars. There were a few times I didn’t like the heroine much but despite that it was a well written and enjoyable read. The H and h had a lot to work through and I sometimes felt they used sex instead of talking things out. The best part about the whole book is that both the H and h were faithful and celibate during separation! I love a hero who is not a rake and I love a faithful hero!

I did not hate the book, nor did I love it!

The Plot
3 years ago, a serious misunderstanding led to a rift in Nellie & Jack's happy marriage. Finally, after trying to deal with her heartbreak by throwing scandalous parties full of drink and debauchery, Nellie has found a stable guy she would like to marry, one who will not hurt her as Jack did. For that, she needs a divorce. Jack on the other hand isn't willing to let Nellie go so easily, especially not to someone he thought a friend. All that is left for Jack to do, is remind his wife of the love they share by wooing the hell out of her. Easy, right?

My thoughts
- I don't enjoy second chancers as they have only one direction to go to - HEA! Super predictable. So as a reader, I was impatient thinking - get to the point & quickly.
- As I understand it, Nell's story was written on popular demand, so was probably unplanned and it showed. The story is very cyclical, the same argument between MC was repeated, again and again. There was nothing new.
- The "big misunderstanding" was so stupid, a case of drunken mistaken identity? I was like, give me a break!

You slept with her Jack!
No, I did not, she was in the wrong room and I was very drunk
I hate you
I still love you
Maybe I still love you too!

This happened every 30% in the book.

- I felt as though I had read the same story thrice. This would have worked better as a novella.
- There were OW & OM but the H/h were celibate during separation, which went on for too long! So, no one cheated, no one broke any promises and still, the marriage went sour.
- The whole thing could have been avoided or resolved with one calm & honest conversation, which it did, very late in the book maybe after the 90% mark!
- Having said that, the character portrayal was great, their chemistry was clearly undeniable. Tom (Nell's boyfriend of sorts) was an interesting character, he did get the short end of the stick, but he gets his own HEA too in the next book.
- The writing flowed effortlessly, a unidirectional story notwithstanding.

The Hero
Jack was a good character. He went from being a young Lord enjoying his life drinking & partying to sobering up, travelling & writing books. He grew up, took responsibility & decided to fix things. What I especially liked was that even he was pissed off with Nell for not believing the fact that he would never cheat on her. His wooing methods were so adorable. Jack came across as not quite passive, but more like a quiet alpha hero.

The Heroine
Nell was, well...boring, even with the scandalous parties & heavy drinking. She clung to her opinion far too long and it was flimsy at best. One thing I will grant her was that her anger at Jack being stayed gone for too long was justified. He could have come back sooner. Also, she could have talked to Maggie sooner as well and the situation would have gotten resolved quickly. But hey, could've, would've, should've...As I said, a novella would have worked.

My Recommendation
Did I like reading it - yes, would I read it again - no. Should you read it - up to you. If you don't you are not missing much. The series technically ended with the previous book in my opinion.

3.5 rounded up

After being betrayed and subsequently left alone by her husband, Nell, Lady Needham, has developed quite the reputation for wild parties and debauchery. But she really wants children and she's found a safe, comfortable man to give them to her. She just needs a divorce so she can finish moving on.

Jack, the Marquess of Needham, has spent the past three years giving his wife the space she wanted in an attempt to atone for the drunken case of mistaken identity that caused their rift. But when she asks for a divorce, he realizes he must return home and claim the woman he loves for good.

Nell was so hurt by Jack she refuses to give him the chance to hurt her again. No matter how seductive he is, she refuses to trust him or let him in again. But he's difficult to resist and he's not giving up without a fight. Jack will do anything to keep his beloved where she belongs: with him.

This book was very emotional. Nell and Jack had a very volatile, passionate relationship and I loved Jack's persistence and sincerity. Many of their dialogues, however, were cyclical and repetitive and full of angst, as is to be expected from such a story. My issue was with Nell's grudge holding mainly. Yes, Jack made a terrible mistake, but with their wild, drunken parties and hedonistic lifestyle, it makes good sense and he stopped before things went too far, and never lied to Nell, nor did he cease being faithful to her. Yet, Nell never believed Jack until she heard the story corroborated by someone else. I found Nell to be rather hypocritical given the fact that she actively pursued a relationship with another man; even if it wasn't physical, she was sober and knew exactly what she was doing. For me, she was also in the wrong, maybe even a bit more so, and I never really saw a satisfactory apology from her. Jack made an excellent groveling, though highly flawed, hero and this book was incredibly steamy. The writing here was excellent, as it always is from Scarlett, and I need to continue the rest of the series now.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

Hhhhmmm. I was so primed and ready to love this book. My all time favorite troupe - estranged couples who are giving a second chance. But this one felt a little flat for me. A lot of steamy scenes and discussions of the same topic over and over again. But generally, not a lot of substance. I think the theme required the author to point out qualities that were specific to the characters in order for the readers to fall in love with them. Not just the typical - beautiful, elegant, shapely, handsome, athletic, etc.

Readers looking for a steamy book with an easy-to-follow plot and minimal angst will generally like this. As for me, it was a bit of a let down. 2.5 stars.

I’ve been obsessed with learning more of Nell’s story since reading Her Lovestruck Lord. Her Lovestruck Lord is my favorite book by Mrs. Scott, though I know it’s controversial. I adore angsty romance books where the H has done the h wrong and must atone.

Her Missing Marquess picks up where Her Lovestruck Lord ends. Her Missing Marquess can be read as a stand-alone, though. You don’t need to read Her Lovestruck Lord unless you’d like more background on Nell and her legendary and decadent house parties!

Nell caught Jack in bed with another man’s paramour. As a result, Jack leaves for years to try to atone but when he returns it is to find Nell betrothed to another man. She wants a divorce and she doesn’t care what society thinks. Can Jack convince Nell to give him another chance?

What ensues is Nell heaping tons of guilt and payback upon Jack, even though in my opinion she’s done a lot of unforgivable things. Although she cannot resist Jack’s passion, she continues to string another man along by meeting and flirting with him in Jack’s house under his nose. She cheats on her betrothed with Jack, but is it cheating because Jack is actually her husband? There is a ton of back and forth. No matter what Jack tries, Nell is stubborn and sometimes very cruel to Jack. He has a very plausible explanation for the situation Nell found him in but she will give him no credit whatsoever. She lets Jack believe she’s been cheating on him the whole time (she hasn’t), but he readily forgives her because he wants her back. Jack was certainly my favorite person in this book. He was actually (mostly) innocent the whole time. I wanted to slap Nell a few times!

I devour every Scarlett Scott novel and I’m a big fan. This book gave me whiplash, but in a mostly-good way. I felt anger toward Nell sometimes, but thankfully her character improved along with her terrible victim attitude mentality. Nell is a headstrong lady who will cut off her nose to spite her face! She made my blood pressure rise with her irrational and senseless anger at times! I found her to be vindictive and immature. This is one of the first books I’ve read in a long time where I loved to hate the h! This made the scenario more realistic to me. Of course, there is a HEA! I give 5 seductive and maddening stars!

Engrossing enemies (back) to lovers story of Nell and Jack, Lady and Marquess Needham. Jack has been gone for three years, after being found in bed with another lady and told to leave by his wife. He regrets his stupidity and returns to try to reconcile. Nell is having none of it, her hurt is still too intense. Ms Scott's brilliant writing shows us the conflicts for each character, and makes them so real to the reader. Great addition to this series, but can be read as standalone. Highly recommend.

Nell, Lady Needham exiled her husband from the country estate after finding him naked and in bed with a naked lady. He attempted to convince her that he was drunk and didn't even know the foxed, naked lady had crawled into his bed. That was three years ago and since then Nell has earned a scandalous reputation for her outrageous and obscene house parties. Now, she tires of the parties and finds herself yearning for a husband and children. She has found such a man who loves her - she cares for him and that will be enough to get along nicely together and he can give her children. She has written her estranged husband requesting a divorce so she can marry the new man in her life.

"Jack", as his friends call him is John Reginald Ainsworth, Marquess of Needham, Earl of Marbury, Viscount Pelham, etc. has returned to his country estate to find an indecent house party going on and his wife drunk, dancing on the dining room table. Nell is absolutely shocked to see him, which seemed to suit him fine. He was here to woo his wife back, convince her not to marry another, prove their love is worth fighting for and most of all, convince her of the truth of that night and to earn her trust again.

What will happen? Nell will NEVER forgive or forget what Jack did! Jack will NEVER grant her a divorce! Can they somehow meet in the middle? This is such a great story with a couple that are like two pieces of bacon in a red hot skillet - sizzle, oh my!

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

Steamy and romantic, this hits all those little places that make you curl your toes and sigh with satisfaction.
On top of that it’s a really good book with a storyline that has you swinging from overjoyed to ripping your hair out in frustration.
I’d have forgiven poor Jack when he walked in the door and caught me in his arms.

The steamy bits are hold onto your hat explosive, these two have an overpowering chemistry that leaks from the pages.
Look out for one particular scene in the dining room.
Still cooling off from that one.

They are made for each other and the ,will they won’t they scenario consistently rules all throughout the book , but never gets tiring.

It’s a great read , fun, emotional and heartbreaking at times.
Scarlett never stops surprising me, her ideas are wonderful and enjoyable, and she always leaves me happy with the conclusion.

This was an engaging read and I liked the character of Jack very much. During his 3 year absence, he had matured and made use of his time away. However, I just couldn’t take to Nell. She was obviously very immature at the start of their marriage and seemed to continue on with this behaviour for the three years separation. Nell was also quite willing to be with Jack whilst stringing Tom along with the promise of marriage. She was also thinking of marrying Tom, even though she didn’t love him, so that she could have children. I did feel sorry for Tom. I could go on but suffice to say, Nell was not my favourite! The story was well written and flowed along at a good pace and was an easy read. There were some steamy parts.

Nell, The Marquees of Needham is having fun and being naughty. Why not since her husband has been gone three years after a indiscretion on his part? She wants a divorce so she can marry a nice man and have a family ? While having a house party for her friends, Jack, Lord Needham shows up and catches her after she falls off a table while dancing on it. Jack wants to win her back because he never stopped loving her, but there is the matter of Tom whom she plans to marry. Will be be able to convince her that he loves her and won't give her up. With hot kisses and even hotter touches, Nell knows she will never love another, but can she trust him after what he did? This is one steamy, passionate book. You will love Jack and Nell's story. I almost swooned while reading it. I read it all at once as I couldn't put it down. I received this book from the author for a honest review and pre-orderordered it as well.

All she has to do is convince the Marquis of Needham to grant her the divorce she requires so she can move on.
John Reginald Ainsworth, Marquis of Nedham ruined his marriage in a moment of drunken stupidity. He gave his wife the distance she wanted and deserved in an effort to atone for his sins. This is the fifth book in the series & could easily be read on its own but the whole series is seriously good & some earlier characters do make appearances. I've wanted Nell to have her story for some time & thrilled that she's now got her HEA. A steamy read with Jack determined to win Nell & Nell adamant she’s ready to move on, the will they won’t they trope doesn’t usually work for me but wow did it work this time. Strong likeable characters who were well portrayed & were so right for each other, even though she fought it. I did feel sorry for Tom & would love for him to meet his soul mate. I was captivated from cover to cover.

I love Scarlett Scott's books. However, after reading The Duke of Debauchery, I know what she is capable of.
Her Missing Marquess falls a bit short.
The Hero was extremely patient.
The Heroine was uncompromising and came across as shrewish. I also needed more groveling from her.

I tried throughout the book to put myself in her shoes. But each time, I could not shake that she was being (insert synonym for uncompromising so I don't sound repetitive).

The H & h lived a pretty wild life together. She continued while they were apart. I didn't necessarily have an issue with this but I didn't like that she continued with such an unforgiving demeanor towards the hero. It was a double standard and it annoyed me.

The hero was truthful with her. He owned his behavior and then took steps to ensure the behavior would not happen again. The heroine just basically used him as a verbal and emotional punching bag and it was ugly. The heroine was supposed to have been madly in love with the hero but her lack of trust and faith kinda said otherwise.

It annoyed me supremely that she essentially had to have proof the hero was being honest before she could move on. I had a hard time believing there HEA could really be a HEA.

Three years ago, Jack ruined his relationship with his wife. She asked him to leave and he did. But when she asks him for a divorce so that she can move on, Jack decides it is time to go back and fight for his marriage. He knows he has a long road ahead of him, but he will do anything to be reunited with the woman he loves.

Nell has spent the last several years earning a scandalous reputation. After her husband's betrayal, she devoted her life to having fun and is know for her wild parties. But now she is ready to settle down and start a family. But she needs to get a divorce so that she can marry the man she knows won't break her heart like Jack did.

Who will win this battle of wills. Can Jack and Nell both get their happily ever after?

I absolutely adored Jack and Nell's story! I had read all the other books in the series back to back and Nell featured in those stories. When I learned that Scott was writing her story, I hated that I had to wait for several months to read it, because I loved Nell so much and want to see her get her HEA. But it was well worth the wait!! OMG!! The feeling in this one!! My emotions were so up and down while reading this. I was laughing out loud at all the bantering between these two and then my heart was breaking for them at the anguish they were going through.

Bottom line...GO GET THIS NOW!!! It can definitely be read as a stand alone, but this series is so great that I recommend reading all of the books!!

A pull at your heartstrings, raise your blood pressure and engage all of your senses story that is classic Scarlett Scott! One of my favorite author's she had me by the first few lines bringing to my imagination, Nell dancing on the polished table celebrating.....
"Three years of waiting. Three years of loneliness, agony...at long last, she would have what she wanted. A divorce."
But she was in for an awakening as her faithless husband Jack, who had been gone those three years suddenly showed up and told her he would not give her a divorce. "I cannot. I will never let you go Nell." She had made him agree to stay away, but when he got her letter asking for a divorce, he knew it was time to come home and claim his wife.
The heartache Nell has endured and Jack as well is really emotional and he is determined to win her back. Overwhelming, powerful, an explosive attraction and a love that begs to be rekindled and the journey is worth it. Exquisite....

Bitter not better

I confess to reading the reviews and almost skipping this one! I almost wished I had it you like a lot of sex and a steamy scenes including a bathtub then yes!!! But not much else Nell or Nellie has built her whole life around her husband's supposed betrayal!! Wild parties and spending time with Tom because she wants a family and now a divorce from Jack!!! Since day one Jack professes is innocent he was drunk and some strange woman got in his bed! Nothing happened, conveniently in their 3 year separation this women is dead and noone confronts her prior to her death??? Really??? Like the next day???? Nell got on my nerves now dare you bring some man into your husband home and close the door for a private conversation??? It's his house!!!! Nell can't keep her hands off Jack and vice versa!! I was disappointed as in previous stories I never realized how bitter and childish Nell was and how patient and loving Jack was and is!!! I would have given it a higher rating if Nell had a deeper character!!! This could have been a novella!!!!!

This story is a little hard for me. On the one hand, I love the writing. It is gorgeous as always with Ms. Scott. On the other hand, I really did not like Nell in this story. I just wanted to say “get over it, if you love him and really want to make this work, let it go”. I understand where she is coming from. I am not sure I could forgive what I saw but his explanation was plausible especially since they did have wild parties. Did he ever lie to her before? No, so why not believe him now. As the story goes on, steamy as it is (get out the fans), I appreciated Jack’s new courtship of Nell and her final acceptance of his never wavering love. I also liked that she did come clean with Tom and told him that she could not be the wife he wanted. (Pssst, is Tom going to get a story?)

Three years ago Lady Nell Needham caught her crazy drunk husband Jack, Marquess of Needham in a compromising position with one of her friends at one of their wild parties. She was hurt, her trust is broken and she was unwilling to listen to his drunken excuses and ordered him to leave her. She never expected him to gone traveling the country for three years.
Jack returns home after he receives a letter asking for a divorce from the only woman he’s ever loved and still loves. Jack’s returning has everyone in a tizzy especially Nellie who has not forgiven him or stopped loving him. She knows she can’t show him any vulnerability or he'll can take advantage her heart, her passion and her emotions. Nell has decided to marry one of Jack’s friend Tom Sidmouth who has stood by her and supported her. Nell wants start a family when she’s get her divorce, but the attraction and chemistry is even more powerful between them. Jack has always loved Nellie, but after so much heart break can she forgive him and start over. Will her stubborn pride get in the way of the happiness they both want and deserve? A captivating story of two strongly independent characters who want so badly want to be loved and love in return. I have voluntarily read and reviewed this amazing story.

The first book ever read by Scarlett Scott was Her Lovestruck Lord from the Wicked Husband series and I loved it! I was hooked! I'm a huge fan of all her books and she quickly became one of those authors for me that is an auto buy. When she announced a months ago that she would be releasing another book in the Wicked Husbands series, I was so excited! And I was beyond excited when I found out the new book was going to be about Nell, the Marchioness of Needham, who was introduced to us in Her Lovestruck Lord. Even from the start I just knew Nell needed a story if her own. Let me say it was worth the wait and Scarlett did not disappoint! I love second chance romances and WOW was this one HOT! Just like I like em'!!! The passion between Nell and Jack was absolutely combustible!! In my opinion this one is one of Scarlett's best books yet!!! If you love your HR steamy, do yourself a favor and read this one! While you at it read all of her books, you won't be disappointed!

First, as with all of Scarlett Scott’s books, the writing in Her Missing Marquess is exceptional. Kudos to her, and her editor.

Jack is a swoon-worthy hero in this book. I couldn’t love him more. His backstory is definitely flawed, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more self-realized hero in any other book I’ve read. And I read a LOT. What he goes through and what he does to win back Nell left me wanting an entire lifetime of his story.

Nell - she’s a bit harder to love. So stubborn as to be infuriating at times, though when I put myself into her shoes, I’m not sure I’d be strong enough to react any differently.

This couple has intense chemistry, so be prepared. Jack does EVERYTHING in his power to get Nell to forgive him. This is a very steamy read.

Another thing I noticed is that unlike a lot of books with several secondary characters showing up throughout, this book is largely just Jack and Nell. So you really get to know the inner workings of their minds and their relationship.

Like all of Scarlett Scott’s books, this is definitely worth the read!

I received an advanced complimentary copy of this book, but all comments and opinions in this review are my own.

I'm so mad I'm reducing the stars to 2.
There's just no groveling!!!
Not for punishing him for abandoning her for 3 months, not for lying to her and turning her in and not for intending to annul the marriage.
This is shit!
I hated this book for the lack of grovel.
It was flat because of it.
Became colorless with no angst.
It would have been a 5 if there was real grovel.
