"I've dried your front," the Fae prince said, his voice nearly harsh. "Now turnaround." Liar. He'd simply swept the towel over my legs, though his gaze had darted to the flesh between my thighs. I turned as he'd commanded, my skin burning with carnal need. He started to dry my back. The towel slowly moved toward my butt. I parted my legs, bent forward a little, and bared for him. He swallowed and stiffened behind me. A swath of the towel got between my thighs, rubbing back and forth with his large warm palm beneath it. I swayed my hips a little. "Don't move, Cass," he said huskily. "If you move again, I'll take you right here, right now." A smile curved my lips and I swayed more. He withdrew the towel and ceased his rubbing. Then he spanked me.
This darkly sexy Reverse Harem Fantasy boxed set includes: A bonus novella: A Court of the Beginning and the End Book 1: A Court of Blood and Void Book 2: A Court of Fire and Metal Book 3: A Court of Ice and Wind Book 4: A Court of Earth and Aether
They call me beautiful. They call me a monster. Soon, they'll call me death.
As a direct descendant of the God of Death, Cassandra Saélihn is considered the most dangerous monster of all time. Her own mother locks her in a cage to protect the world from her. Cass thought this jail would be her world for a lifetime, but then four sexy, formidable warriors--a vampire lord, twin fae princes, and a demigod--find her.
They claim she's not a monster, but a powerful weapon.
The Olympian gods have begun to destroy the Earth with a vengeance, and only she can stop and kill them. But Cass has a mind of her own and can't be told what to do, no matter how drawn she is to her four warrior saviors.
To their dismay, the four warriors can't tame the wild, cunning, and volatile Cass. But they have a bigger problem--their growing attraction toward her.
To turn the woman they desire into the ultimate weapon and ensure Earth's survival, they'll have to conquer her body and heart, which seems even harder than winning the war against the atrocious gods. But nothing turns these alpha males on more than an impossible dare. And nothing turns Cass on more than being stalked.
This 1300 + pages reverse harem fantasy/paranormal romance collection features one hell of strong woman and her four powerful supernatural mates. It contains brutal battles, explicit love scenes, raw language, magic, swordfights, Greek gods, dark fae, vampires, shifters, and a lot of assholes.
Here's what readers are saying about the series:
"It was highly entertaining and had a lot of laugh out loud moments. As well as some really hot moments that will have you fanning your face." - Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★
"If you like snarky heroines and devoted alphas this series is for you. There was also an awesome twist in the storyline that I never saw coming!" - Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★
"The best part of this book is that even with the fun sexy scenes there is a real and fascinating storyline to follow. The romance is definitely a main part of the story, but not the only focus, which is terrific. For those complaining of her age, which is chronologically 16, the author does explain that Cass reached her species adulthood at 9 years old. It even lists her equivalent age as in her early 20s. So she's not a child." - Amazon Reviewer ★★★★★
Meg Xuemei X is a USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author of paranormal and fantasy romance. She loves writing badass heroines and hot psycho alphaholes.
I can not even express how awful the main character was. I read as much as I could stomach hoping at some point the selfish, delusional, ignorant, spoiled, petulant, willful, arrogant, ridiculous child would be called to account for her utterly laughable perspective.... but it didnt seem to happen.
The whole character made zero sense. Other than being completley awful in almost every way I can fathom the characterization also made NO sense.
**SPOILERS**
She had been locked in a cage since she was a toddler. Her only view of the world was dream visions she had of visiting the mortal realm. Despite her upbringing she was convinced that she was tough, cunning, and adaptable. Yet she had ZERO physical experience. Why would she think that. There were so many things she thought about herself that she should not know... for instance, how to manipulate people, or how to seduce a man, when shes only ever physically been around her mother.
The age thing is also creepy as all get out. Shes 16... but then she mentions that she ages differently so shes more like the equivalent of a 23 year old... mentally she acts more like a 6 year old tthough. Its just really creepy. The author should have let her be 23, and have gone into the cage slightly later in life so that the rage would make more sense.
The main character has a very strong opinion on not being a prisoner but considering she had been locked up since she was 3 how would she even know the difference. Sure the dream visions maybe but that only started recently. If you had been locked up your whole life, then that is what would be normal for you. If she had been free and experienced freedom it would make so much more sense, but no, cage since she was a toddler.
ALSO, How the *bleep* could any self respecting man deal with the constant whinning, boasting, petulant, utter BS of this immature little girl. Let alone 4 of the most powerful men in this setting. And then by some miracle fall in love with her for no reason I can tell. Even fated mates should have a limit. It was nauseating reading what that stupid girl thought and how she acted.
I cannot see how anyone could like Cass at all. I really had hoped there would be a time when she realized how absolutely insane and immature she was acting but it did not seem like any sort of possitive development was forthcoming.
I read each of these books separately, but having them all in one place is not only the best way to read them it's also an amazing deal.
A Court of Blood and Void The character of Cass spoke to me on some deep level. Her pain, fear, distrust, anger, hate, and desire for vengeance mixed with her need to be loved, her desire to trust, her joy at the simple things, and fear that vengeance wouldn't come were so realistic and honest. I was there with her through all of it. I love her mix of teen attitude and womanly desires. I love her vulnerability and the way she would sometimes use sexual attraction to achieve the love she needs. It feels real and speaks to the abuse she suffered at the hands of someone who would tell her it was all done because of love. I love the blend of knowing that the story takes place in modern time, yet still has a touch of historical themes due to the Immortal Realm. Just like Cass, I felt a fondness for Reysalor from the very beginning, and even though Lorcan means her no harm I found it a little harder to trust him. It wasn't until Alaric and Pyrder appear that I understood why Lorcan seemed so distant and made me wary. The romance in this story isn't instant love, although there is instant lust, and it moves at a natural pace. The men give Cass time to get to know them and develop that trust that she so desires. I'm anxious to find out more about why Cass was really locked away and who is to blame. I dying to watch the relationships between Cass and her men grow. The build up for the final battle to save the world has been growing for a while now and knowing that the end is getting closer fills me with both excitement and sorrow because I hate endings. For now, I'm going to sit back and enjoy this fantastical, action-packed, steamy read and I suggest you do the same.
A Court of Fire and Metal This book is everything I expected and more! Cass is such a fabulous character. She is a walking contradiction, and I love her for it. One moment she is mature beyond her years, and the next she is like a spoiled teenager. She is stubborn and demanding, and then she turns around and surprises you with her generosity. She is exactly how I imagine someone who had been kept locked up for years would be. She wants to experience everything right now, and then worries about the future. Her relationships with her men are progressing at a perfect pace and I love that each of them appeal to a different part of her personality. They have figured out that she won't be bossed around and she isn't afraid to remind them of that fact when they forget. They mostly just sit back and let her do her thing, which leads to many humorous moments. There are also moments of steamy passion, danger and excitement, and lots of eating. Cass is learning more and more about her powers. She is making new friends, and new enemies, and discovering that things aren't exactly how she thought they were. After reading this one, I'm left with more questions than answers. Who can Cass trust? Who isn't being totally honest? What powers has she still not discovered? Who will stand with her and who will be against in this battle for the world? And the most pressing question, will anyone ever stand between her and her cake? Inquiring minds want to know! I can't wait for the next one and I think EVERYONE should read this book!
A Court of Ice and Wind Someone actually came between Cass and her cake. I'm not going to tell you who, but I will tell you that it doesn't last long and she quickly returns to loving her favorite food. I swear my jaw hit the floor when I read that. With every book in this series, I love Cass more and more. She is still that wonderful blend of immaturity and fearless God that I enjoy so much. She is still the spunky, kick-a**, hard-outer-shell-with-a-gooey-center, protector and destroyer. I love her recklessness and her fake it til you make it take on every situation. I love the way her men spoil her and treat her like the treasure she is. I love the way she is collecting friends and protectors while at the same time snubbing her nose at all her enemies. Things are starting to peak in this one. New enemies are encountered, new alliances are formed, and things get a little bit darker for Cass. She is starting to get more info on who she really is and just what she's capable of (YAY!) but that knowledge brings her to the attention of people she isn't quite ready to deal with. There is pain in this one. Not everything is a bed of roses and there is sorrow mingled in with the joy, but that is what happens when you go to war with the Gods. I love this series. I love Meg's writing style and the way her words pick me up and place me in the story like I'm living it. I love the bits of humor and the glimpses of dark that coexist in this world. I am enjoying tagging along while Cass grows into herself and all the struggles that go with that. The story is fast-paced and has plenty of action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is also passion and romance that heats you up and melts your heart. I am once again waiting impatiently for the next book in this series and I highly recommend this and every other book by this author.
A Court of Earth and Aether YES!! This ending was everything I expect from Meg. It was an insane, crazy ride and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I devoured the words and then would curse myself for reading it so quickly. I didn't want it to end. Cass as a dragon was even better than I expected. She is fierce, stubborn, independent, and funny. I can't forget the moments of humor because it's one of my favorite things about Meg's writing. Her characters are witty, and I love it. I was also happy to see that she got to eat plenty of cake, lol. I can't even look at cake without thinking of Cass anymore. It's a charming part of her and about the only thing that can stop her in her tracks when she is on a rampage. I was happy to see that even after Cass became a dragon she maintained that blend of rebellious teen/siren/bad-a** chick that I have loved so much. I love the way her men are always behind her, no matter what, and make everyone else back off, too. Without giving away any spoilers, I'm not really sure what else to say. There are tons of surprises, tons of action and fighting, tons of humorous interactions and sexy scenes, too. It's a very enjoyable read, and I can't wait to see what Meg's imagination will come up with next.
What a series! This is my first listen of Meg Xuemei X's and it had me captivated the entire time!
A Court of Blood and Void: I tend to shy away from reverse harem stories, one man is plenty for me! But when I read the teaser for this book, I wanted to dive in and see where it would take me. The premise of trying to take down the Gods to save the world is what caught my eye, and this sucked me in and kept me going. Cass is a direct descendant of the God of death and is thought to be so powerful that even her own mother had her caged for the last 13 years of her life. Though only 16, she is mature beyond her years, and though not have experienced much since she has been captive all this time, she is quite capable. Now broken out by 4 formidable men who want to hone her skills to destroy the Gods, she is less than tame. I love this girl. Her spunk and vigor is not only fun and frustrating to those around her, but thoroughly refreshing. She doesn't even realize the power she holds, and I am not talking about her as a weapon, but the sexual pull an attraction. A vampire lord, a demigod and twin faes are here to help her and keep her in line. The attraction to all four is so strong, but what they propose is crazy, right? Give this a listen, you too will want to see what happens to Cass in the next installment of this fantasy. It's fast paced, full of action and battles and totally hot and sexy.
A Court of Fire and Metal This book is so busy, and has so much packed into it! I couldn't stop listening. Picking up where book 1 left off, (Yes, you must listen to all of them to get the full story), Cass and her four soulmates begin to get her ready for war. Going to the Academy is one step and Cass meets several new and intriguing characters there. Noah is one that we just aren't sure of. Full of charm and charisma, she is watching out for him. And her new good friend, the soothsayer Amber. She is a good influence and so far I am really liking her. Cass's relationships grow and the love between her four men and her keeps growing. I did find Cass a little overbearing at times, but with her impending responsibility and her past, I can understand her attitude and frustrations! She is a force to be reckoned with. If you like reverse harems, action packed scenes, strong females and just a really good story, this series is one you will enjoy! It will keep you on your toes, wondering what will happen next and your steam meter high!
A Court of Ice & Fire This series really brings everything together! A little Greek mythology history, a little action packed fighting, some unexpected enemies and a lot of love! Meg Xuemei X continues this series with so much going on, it's important to pay attention. We pick up where book 2 left off, and get a huge surprise with Noah! People are not always who they appear to be, so Cass is in a predicament that she is not sure she can get out of. She keeps her snarky attitude, almost careless at times, but that is what has become endearing to me about her. No matter the circumstance, she keeps the energy high. Her four men are always looking out for her, and the steam factor is extremely high! It has come to the point where decisions have to be made and Cass has seen what she needs to do. The question now is can it all be done? We won't know until the concluding story! I enjoyed this book with Hades, Apollo, Ares and Demeter, each having a part that helps mold the finale. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.
A Court of Earth & Aether This has been a whirlwind of a series! There is so much happening! It's fun, complex, romantic, sexy, all the elements of an incredible story. Book 4 picks up where we left off, and we get to see what Cass is going to do with the information she has learned. She proves to be a force you don't want to reckon with! The Gods have their hands full, and not one is safe. The fight scenes are action packed and are so vivid, you can picture it all in your mind. Zeus, Hades, Ares, Apollo, you name it and they are there! There are some surprising allies, and the love meter remains off the charts for Cass and her four mates. You will love how it all turns out!
Victoria Mei narrates the series with an amazing performance. Not only does she shine in this series, but it just shows that with a challenge of so many characters and so many different types of scenes that she can narrate anything! I loved her portrayal of characters, she has so much vibrancy and emotion that you could feel the story. Loved every minute!
I could not finish and I tried really hard to like it because it seemed interesting. Many elements were there but the whole was not enjoyable. The heroine being the powerful one in the relationship could have been great but was not because her arrogance is only matched by her ignorance and her too stupid to live attitude. Whenever someone warns her not to do something, what does she do? You guessed it. Being ignorant could have been a part of her character seeing as she is only 16 and has been imprisoned all of her life but she insists that she is mature enough and that she KNOWS she can do stuff even though she always ends up causing havoc. I also have trouble believing that she could be SURE that she was an adult after having been locked all of her life and having no contact with anyone in order to ascertain her maturity, but that would be okay if the author consistently described her as a teen who does not know better. That is not what happens. Instead, the mates she has are shocked by her age (what's a mere thousand year difference right?) but are still persuaded by HER (I remind you, she is 16, she has lived 13+ years in a cage being starved) that she is an adult. I mean, even if the author had made her 25, she would still be a child compared to them and compared to everyone she met afterwards si'ce she has no common knowledge. The girl's attitude is not normal and the mates either. They are effectively taking advantage of a girl not knowing any better (I had some hope for this because when one of the ML told her not to resist their wooing because he Knew she was attracted to them, she replied that it was only because she knew no one else and had been locked up all her life. But alas, this is quickly glossed over in favor of the description of the perceived hotness and badassery of the MCs.). Nothing feels genuine in this book, the girl's feelings are akin to a chick imprinting on the first person who has treated her correctly in her life. And the male leads just want a piece of her. We have no real opinion on their character that we get through the story, we only get a short overview as it is literally explained to us. The world building is more than minimal and we don't understand the values of any communities of supernagurals at all. What do we know about the world? Next to nothing. What is the belief system? How do politics work? Do humans know about supernaturals? What is the story creation? Why are their still malls although the world is devastated? What are the struggles of the people? Why are the gods attacking? Where did they come from? How come the 4 guys knew they could share a mate? Who told them that it was possible? Is there such thing as predetermination? Why are all women meeting with Cass seething with jealousy to the point of betraying the one they supposedly have feelings for just to spite her? I could go on and on but you get the gist. The book is lacking everything a novel is supposed to have, everything is fabricated and people and relationships are so superficial they are worse than a very badly written Harlequin. And that amount of world building is achieved through a trilogy whereas there are authors who are able to create a believable romance in the span of 50 pages.
I forgot to mention that she is an incredibly talented young woman who can do everything she sets out to do in the first try (never having touched a bow or a spear, she is able to throw them and teach bullseye and wait it was five arrows at the same time) and is just the best. If she does not have a power, she can just siphon it off her mates, if she does not have enough power, everybody's is fair game ...
Ps: has anyone told this stupid 16 year old girl that having unprotected sex can lead to pregnancy? What is the big idea here, getting her pregnant in the middle of the war?

DNF'ed at 10%. I think that this author's FMCs and I just do not mix. I find them absolutely insufferable. There is a difference between being badass and sticking up for yourself and being just an annoying idiot.
The world-building in this is also quite strange and lacking...there are mentions of the FMC wearing sneakers, and baby grand pianos in her room, and she calls everyone "dude". But then everyone has swords. There is a human realm connected to the fantasy realm where this story starts, but that doesn't explain why the FMC has sneakers on. Or even why she was wearing shoes to begin with, trapped in a cage.
One of my biggest pet peeves is that the FMC is 16 years old, but "fully mature" and "basically a 23 year old human." I'm sorry, but I see NO reason that the FMC being only 16 actual years old but "more mature for her age than anyone else" needs to be part of the story/plot and is giving me the ick. I get that she's an unknown species but there are other ways to differentiate her (like, idk, all the powers she has that nobody else has and the fact that a prophesy says she'll save the work) without messing around with ages. IDK, weirded me out.
A 16 year old with the body of a matured 23 year old body still means she is 16. I started my period at 8 had a c cup by 10 so since my body was matured before my mind it should be okay for men much older than me to have sex with me because I have the body of a woman at such a young age? Disgusting! The girl also continuously contradicts herself. She says she's a badass who doesn't give a shit but hates it when her mates show their dominance by protecting her quote that was harsh I don't think I can be mated to such a bastard. She killed one sister and she doesn't like it when he brings it up before killing the other sister that was trying to kill her!? Bitch please. This story had a lot of potential but you can't do adult with a teenage storyline! It becomes pedophile porn because you have a 16 year old that acts like a 13 year old being fucked by several men much older than her.
I just really hated Cass. I tried. I honestly tried to find something to like about her. But, other than loyalty, she had no redeeming qualities. Her harem adored her, but there was nothing about her to adore. I have no idea why they wanted her other than the mating bond and her power. Her personality was supposed to be quirky and funny, but all she came across as is a childish, immature, ridiculous girl with a lot of power. I just wasn't in to it.
Cass did somewhat grow and change towards the end. It was too little too late as far as I'm concerned. The story line was interesting. The plot twists were good. I gave the series a 3 for that reason. I had a hard time getting through the series though because I didn't care what happened to the MC. Sad, but true.
Formatting: - flashbacks/dreams/ different language nicknames need to be italics - font color in areas is different for no apparent reason
Context:
- FMC is just plain rude and bitchy, half the time for no reason. It’s so overboard and annoying - barely any world building - character development is poor
So I got to book 2, when they are in the vamp lord home. I figured by then, things would be better but they’re not.
NOPE! I wanted to enjoy this series, but gave up after book 2. Great concept. Terrible characters. What ruined the potential was the bad attitude of H. Given her history, or lack there of, I understand anger and the need for freedom. But for someone so powerful and supposedly ‘mature’ she was only petulant. H wasn’t angry or sad or excited for new life. There is a huge difference between being independent and strong than from being entitled and obnoxious.
Writing was pretty bad. I tried to get through all 4 books because I hate not finishing a book but I just couldn't do it. The main character makes me want to punch her in the face and the males make me cringe. She is so self centered and comes off so fake and self contradictory. The guys are sex crazed and have very little substance. The story itself wasn't anything great, but the poor execution just made it not good.
The main character never has to actually work for anything but this series likes to parade around like it's pro women. She consistently fails at every problem thrown her way and then suddenly has the exact power she needs to overcome the problem. The most likeable part was Cas being illiterate because it made sense with her story, but even that she overcame immediately. There's no depth to the characters.
Book 1 She is very bitchy. I hope she matures a lot in the next book. If it wasn't for the fact that I already bought all the books I probably wouldn't continue reading it.
Book 2 Worst book ever. So disappointing. The lead female is a total brat all of the time! I can't finish this book and have no desire to read the other 2 in the series. Very upset that I spent money on them.
Don't get this series. You will be just as disappointed as I am.
I got about 200 pages in and ended up giving up. I'm all for a strong female lead. But so far, she reminds me of a 12 year old who just got her first bra, was suddenly down to steal her parents alcohol, and cuss any chance she gets. 😅 She is rude, entitled, arrogant, and generally unlikable. The rest of the story seems well written. But I just can't take her anymore.
Lets, beging on a positive note... •The boxed set comes with a bonus novella (at least the Kindle version did). •I have read the whole series now and although I rated the 1st & 2nd books 3.0☆, the series got better as the story progressed.
Now to be honest, the main thing that threw me off with this book, is that it should be categorized as "YA Erotica".
The main character is technically 16yrs old, though she does explain to her future mates that she matured to adulthood at 9 and that if she was human she would be equivalent to a 23-27yr old. Normally I would not have an issue with that (as I have mistakenly picked up YA books before), BUT where YA novels may get a little steamy, this girl is more like a 25yr old porn star (not meaning nasty or anything, just experienced). AND once again... normally I would be ok with that - I love reading smut, BUT I am not into kiddie porn! I could not get the idea of a 16yr old sliding up and down on a schlong out of my mind. I'm 47... no bueno!
The next issue which is actually a continuation of the above: So your crazy ass momma put you in a cage at 3 and you have been locked up and neglected for 13yrs... now you've been rescued at 16. The only thing this girl does that keeps with this back story is that she can not read or write. She claims to have the ability to dream walk and this is how she was exposed to human culture. She did admit to visiting a bar, but based on they way she talks she could have only hung out with 19yr old rebellious kids. She curses like a sailor (only mentioning this because I am not sure how this comes to be considering her exposure level) and she acts totally like a 13yr old brat. Thank goodness that by the time we get to book 4 she is questioning all of this behavior, but you are definitely stuck with this idiot for 2 books. May be the ages meant something to the author... but I think the world she built could have survived 4 or 5 more years of Cass being locked in a cage. This way she would have been at least 20 and understandably ready to grind it out on the nearest mans 🍆... I'm just saying. 🤷🏽♀️
The last two books in this series saved it for me, because if I was to rate it on book one and two, we would have barely made it to 3☆. Thank goodnes I am stubborn as a mule and pushed it through.
I am relatively liberal minded, but in the first two books I couldn't get the fact that she was 16 out of my mind. In the 3rd & 4th books she began to mature and I was finally able to over look the fact that she was a kid having hot sex with 4 hot as hell men. (Maybe I was just jealous... nah I dont think so. 🤣)

The author had a cool idea - to mix vampires/faes/shifters and greek gods. But the execution was just pathetic. The main character is one of the most vile "heroines" I've ever had the displeasure of reading about. I legitimately prayed she would die off at every turn. The "love interests" were one dimensional - had a brief background and that was it. Everyone was just a simp and for absolutely no good reason. There were no redeeming characteristics for the FL and it became so repetitive. There's a challenge to face? Well, why not unlock a new power and don't even give her a chance to grow?
There were so many holes in this plot and every chapter became more painful to read. It reminded me of those fanfics that I read as a teenager where nothing made sense and I just devoured everything I could get my hands on. I hate that I started this and I hate myself for attempting to finish this. It's a tragedy that I never give up on what I'm reading...
I've learned that trusting goodreads rating means nothing. 4.25 stars? In what world? It really shows that people have never read actual amazing books with fantastic world building, character development and engaging plot.

Really enjoyed this fascinating read. Loved the descriptions of the scenes and characters, loved the fight scenes which there are plenty. I felt really bad for the lead h Cass. Her beginnings were tragic. She was really immature, which I hoped she would grow out of as time passes. That did not happen. It was the only drawback for me. The guys in her harem Reys, Pyrder who are town panther fae, Alyric demigod and Lorcan a vampire, were great and the steamy scenes will smoke your kindle. The story picks up with Cass on a cage being held by her mother. Cass was created to be a monster, to defeat the gods. She is rescued and ends up falling for four very powerful men. They also fall for her, to the point of obsession. Everyone is trying to kill her, before she can right wrongs and everyone is trying to use/manipulate her.
The story is unique and original. It is so intense and gripping. It pulled me in and isn't letting me go until I find out how it ends. It is full of action, suspense, drama, and hot romance. Victoria Mei has the narrative down to a tee. She makes sure you can separate each character and they are fabulous. Meg Xuemei X is one heck of a writer. The characters are amazingly beautifully developed. Their personalities are felt throughout the story. I adore boxsets as you can move book to book without interruption. Cass with her four mates have grow throughout these stories. They tend to make you laugh at times. You fall in love with them. This is a must read and a must listen to!!!!
Love the story although it's very similar to her other books. Cass was not my favorite heroine she was kind of annoying sometimes. Her actions were most of the time not comprehensible. She seems like a crazy person a lot of the time. Also the boys were kinda on the back seat. I get the book is about her but you can't really get a feel for them. They seem very far away from the plot sometimes. You don't learn a lot about their story or their character. 80% of the time they spend with Cass is used to f*ck or lecture her they rarely just talk about deeper things. The only redeeming quality Cass has is that she trapped the God's and Gaea otherwise she is a hot headed, irresponsible, whiny brat.

I’ve read other books by this author and I was a fan, but this one didn’t do it for me. I actually really like the males in this series, but the main character... not so much. She’s supposed to be ‘strong and unable to be controlled by anyone’ but honestly she just comes off as a petulant teenager on a power trip. I get that her ‘upbringing’ (or lack of one) could make one a bit feral and lacking in trust, buuuuttttt the way she acts is just over the top bratty. I tried to persevere, but it ended up distracting me and I couldn’t even finish the first book.
The book set has an interesting & intriguing concept as backdrop for the expected mates trope (which, frankly, was the reason I picked it up in KU on a whim). And I truly wish i could recommend that book, because the concept is really worth it. However, the characterization / behavior of the female lead just needs too much ignoring my disbelief for me to continue with the books. Somebody, who spent their formative years in an isolated cave/cage, with only the opportunity of observing / watching the human world, proclaims a "need to go shopping to release stress"!? Puh-leeaaaze. No, thank you, returned.
Oh my! Our hera, Cass, is the baddest of all badasses in the Universe. This series is convoluted and fast moving. The world is modern, but with the return of the Olympian Gods, all Hell has broke loose on Earth. Ancient Gaia has taken matters into Her own hands. With Apollo, Ares, Hades and the rest of the Olympians, everyone has their own p.o.v., and manipulation is rampant. You'll never guess what Cass will do next! She's a bit chaotic, a lot of fun & is true wild card. Enjoy!
I found the brattyness of this heroine. I understand her need to be in control but she did things to annoy people just because she could. I was hoping that it would get better as the books continued on but alas it did not. I found the premise of the story an interesting but that was it. I found it very hard to finish the story. I have read other stories by Meg Xuemei X one enjoyed them greatly, I will continue reading her books and not let this cloud my opinion of her stories.
I have never read a series, a paranormal series, that captured me like this one. I laughed, incredibly, and I related to the heroine. Cass is my kind of chick. There is everything you could ask for in this series. Hot harem, action, badass lead female, angst, and family drama that we can all relate to. I don't read a lot of paranormal, but this has made me a fan. Great job. Can't wait to read more from Meg. Totally a 5 plus read. Even better it is on KU!!
It's nice to have a book written with mythology. I was really into it as a child. The plot kept me engrossed the plot twists were great. The only reason why I gave it four stars instead of five is because the FMC at times was really kind of on the whiny side. I mean I get it, but it was borderline annoying at times. Overall the series was a great read and was written to keep the interest of the reader. This is the second series from this author that I've read, and I've enjoyed them both.
What is better than having a complete set in audio? Having it all in one set so you only need one credit!! This series is definitely one of my favorites in the paranormal world. You have twists you don’t see coming and turns that will have your head spinning. You also get the romance to die for and the action to boot! This is an amazing listen as the series is written well and the narration has blown it out rod the water!!
Absolutely amazing book. Another fabulous read by Met Xumei X ! Being able to read through each book without having to find out go to the next was a huge plus as well so I'd recommend the box set over the individuals!
This series contains not only a female heroin, but four sexy males as well. The plot mixed with the steamy love segments is a perfect mix. It kept me to entrapped in the books I ended up finishing them all in 4 days.
Pretty good series. Loved the mystery behind Cass's origin with some twists and turns. Her 4 mates are delicious. It had some funny moments that had me chuckling. My only negative is Cass. She just seemed a bit young and immature for her 4 mates. She felt more their child than their mate at times. I understand she was naive being held captive all her life but at the same time, she seemed to know how to manipulate certain situations. All in all, I really enjoyed the series.
I tried to keep going because I was curious about where the storyline was going but I couldn't. She literally has no world experience in any world of anything but acts like she knows everything and rarely listens. I am so sick of fmc that make dumb decisions when they have nothing to back it up other than they are trying to prove they can do it all themselves.
It was a good story, but I got tired of the whining from Cass. I thought it would get better, but it didn’t. If you like a teenager actitud. Heroine, where she is the badass of everything, and her mates like puppets, this book is for you. I guess, I like more jaded characters. It was enjoyable, but too long with the same actitud. If she would have grown up a bit, and be nicer to her mates and don’t act like a child, I might have like it more.
I had to DNF midway through book 1. I couldn't get passed the writing style of the FMC. She's just a walking mess of contradictions and reads as though she's a preteen that's having a tantrum because she couldn't get the perfect colored sports car.
I get that she's traumatized because of her upbringing but it's literally all she talks about. It's annoying and makes the rest of the story unbearable to read.
