To win the Decadent Dessert’s competition, you have to crack a few eggs.
Gran is gearing up to finally take down the reigning winner of Whitefall Cove’s annual Decadent Dessert’s competition, only the former victor turns up dead, and Gran is the number one suspect. Now all eyes are on us. How on earth do I keep two feuding covens from outright war, prove Gran’s innocence, and keep my new bookstore afloat?
My budding friendship with Detective Jackson Ward is my only recourse, but first I need to get past the prickly defenses of his girlfriend, Police Officer Liliana Miles, and convince Jackson to let me in on the case.
Easier said than done when Gran is flirting up a storm with every male within a ten-mile radius and basking in the spotlight. The hot new lawyer hired to clear her name is not only mysterious but a distraction I don't need, and the witches are misbehaving trying to prove who has more power and spark, which begs the question, can we catch the killer before the next spell is cast?
This paranormal murder mystery will have you completely spellbound and laughing out loud!
This second book in this very fun paranormal cozy mystery series was even better than the first one. Harper is settling in to her new life and even getting a new place. But, Gran is soon arrested for murder, and Harper gets to use her new-found investigative skills to solve the murder so Gran is absolved. I just really love this cute series! The book went fast as I kept turning the page to find out what was going to happen next. If you love fun, light-hearted, cozies with a touch of the paranormal, you really need to try this series out! I highly recommend this book!
Another cute entry in this series. Harper has her powers back, and is "growing into them," learning she might just be a very powerful witch. Most of the people we met in the last book are in this one as well, with the addition of Blake, a very sexy fae. Harper and friends once again leap into the investigation of a murder in town (a rival witch) when Gran is arrested by Jackson for the murder.
While the murder in this book is resolved, the story ends on a huge cliff hanger. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
I just don’t get it. In this little town, most of the population seem to be witches or have some supernatural element. When someone is found dead, Harper’s gran is arrested and it becomes a case of proving her innocence and catching the killer. Everything hurtled along at break-neck speed. People acted for no good reason, and did all manner of strange things. Although there’s some fun elements to this it just seemed a little rushed and it felt that certain details about our character and the events surrounding her came out of nowhere.
Book 2 is just as brilliant as the first book. This time Gran is accused of having murdered a witch from a rival coven. Harper immediately starts investigating and not only has she the support of local Detective Jackson Ward, but also her Grans lawyer Blake Tennet. A great murder mystery with an intriguing plot and returning characters and interesting new additions. Harper also discovers more about her own magic. A very entertaing read and the sparks are flying high...
The town of Whitefall Cove is preparing for the upcoming activities for the newly created book club at Harper Jones’s Dusty Attic Bookstore as well as the Fundraiser Ball. Gran gets into a scuffle with Barbara Emerson, a witch from another coven and the three time winner of the Decadent Desserts contest at the Fundraiser Ball. Gran is determined to win the competition, putting an end to Barbara’s winning streak. A dead body is found and Gran is the prime suspect after a very public argument about the event. Can Harper and Jackson get Gran out of trouble and solve a murder in time?
Ms. Hinchey wrote another outstanding book with the perfect blend of magic and an imaginatively creative storyline. I enjoy the Whitefall Cove characters who are so much fun with witty and extremely snarky conversations. Another plus is the addition of a new love interest for Harper, along with the good looking detective, Jackson, Harper is intrigued by Blake, an attorney who is very interested in her is added to this romantic mix.
Ms. Hinchey produced a first rate book to a great paranormal mystery series that provides non-stop action that kept this reader’s interest throughout the mystery. She is a master paranormal storyteller who created several memorable characters, such as Gran and Harper, with a healthy dose of magical mystery for the paranormal crowd. I am a very happy reader when I read a well devised plot line with two of most funniest and quirkiest magical characters with a dash of sarcasm and humor that wrapped up in a great mystery story.
The language is a bit rough in the middle of the book, so you have been warned. I do not mind the profanity within the context of the story when it fits the mystery plot. The excessive usage of certain cuss words is not necessary and makes Blake look really bad to this reader.
You will laugh so much from this book, Gran is a shining witch star in alot of TROUBLE with the police. Trying to get Gran out of messes is a full time job for Harper! Overall, this is a good, light, and entertaining read for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Witch Way to Romance & Ruin #2 - Gran is absolutely my favorite character; I love her spunk. This is a better read than the first book and it was good, too! The pace was fast and the storylines meshed from the first book into this one and grew with a couple of twists and new characters. There's more growth to all the characters and even the new ones are interesting.
The dialog is filled with plenty of banter between the characters making for an entertaining read. Their humor and quickness of mind kept a perpetual smile or grin on my face. The mystery was better than the usual cozy, but Ms. Hinchey does have substance in her writing.
I did enjoy the sexual tension, which I found well written and not full of the consistent, overdone references to hotness, bodyparts, sexthoughts that so many writers force on the reader with their lack of talent and need to place sex in every sentence. Flirting at its best. This is one series my great-grandkids can happily read and still see human nature. Next stop AU; not quite a cliffhanger, but the next book is setup and it's a trip down under. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*
Witch Way Series: Witch Way to Mistletoe & Murder #1 - Gran had me rolling on the floor with belly laughs; I love that clotheshorse hussy. This is not your typical cozy murder mystery; there's actually interesting storylines, funny dialog, an interesting variety of characters, almost all likable. This clean story moves at a fast pace and there's plenty of intrigue. Gran plays a large part in this story, but she's family, she makes things happen and she's a good, loving support for Harper; plus her confidence and personality are over the top. There's substance in this story, not the typical drivel cozy, and the characters act mature and can think. I contacted the author to review her books. 5* Witch Way Series End.
In this second book of the series, Harper and Gran are back. This time, Gran is preparing to enter a baking contest. Harper needs to rein in some of Gran’s antics, but did Gran do something before Harper had the chance to keep Gran in check?
When Gran’s biggest competitor in the annual baking contest turns up dead, Gran is the main suspect, and she’s arrested and put in jail. Can Harper clear Gran’s good name? When a handsome, high power attorney, a friend of Harper’s father, comes to their aid, anything is possible, even a bit of romance. Unfortunately, Harper’s parents, on their way home from Australia to lend support to their family, disappear. With Gran in jail, her parents missing, a dead body, and apparitions popping up, what’s Harper to do? Why solve the mystery, of course.
This book brings another madcap murder investigation, and it will send you on a maze of twists and turns. The characters are even better and more entertaining than in the first book of the series. I truly enjoyed reading this and watching the quirky characters figure out “who done it”. It’s funny and sweet, and it won’t leave you wanting.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. While I thank her for her generosity, it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
I just loved revisiting Harper and Gran. Except this time Gran is the number one suspect in a rival witch’s murder. There are a whole lot of laughs, drama, suspiciousness, magic and fawning over a new sexy bad boy, but at the end of the day can Harper find the real killer? I can’t wait to read more about Harper’s life, especially with that mini cliffhanger. I love each of the characters and how real the author makes them feel to me. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal cozy mysteries.
Witch Way to Romance & Ruin is the second book in the Witch Way Paranormal Cozy Mystery series.
Second book in a cute series about a witch, her hilarious grandmother, her friends, and her current love interest (who has his own love interest, and it isn't her). This time her detective love interest stuns her when he shows up and arrests her grandmother for murder. Her grandmother...murder. Come on, be real Jackson.
Harper is freaking out and calls her father, in Australia, to get his help hiring an attorney to represent her grandmother. When Blake shows up at her door, sorta, she is struck stupid. For some reason she is drawn to him immediately. Is it his bad boy vibe? Could she really forget Jackson that easily? Oh yeah, she can, at least until she sees him again. If she forgives him for the grandma arrest thing.
Meanwhile, there is the Whitefall Cove Annual Fundraiser Ball to get through, complete with surprise guest, unwelcome surprise guest. A move to a new place. Then there is her growing witchy powers. At least those are useful, if she can figure them out. And where the heck are her parents? They were supposed to be on their way. Uh oh.
Loved it! Another great read. Wonderful plot - murder, missing grimoires and Gran. With the characters virtually leaping off the page as you read. The baking contest has Gran in a spin. She's going to win if it kills her! So what if Bonnie ha won for the last 5 years, her reign was over. Especially after the fight they had had that day. However when Bonnie turns up dead (tied to a chair and suffocated by cake) it's Gran that's in trouble. Arrested for murder! A hasty call to her parents has them packing up to come home and sending a lawyer down to help. A devastatingly handsome Fae. However it's the missing grimoire and the orb that has them really worried. Can they find the grimoire? Is the orb black magic and who sent it? Is it the person responsible for the murder? Add in a new power, a jealous Jackson and a fight for her life for a tremendous read that ends on a cliffhanger.
This is the 2nd book in the series and follows Harper , her gran and her coven. Of course there are the repeat characters from the first book namely Jackson - whom Harper seems to desire and the detective Liliana who is Jackson's girlfriend. The story opens with or course - a murder and mayhem ensues with trying to solve it. I loved the way the story is written, there is humor and intrigue, also the romance and sexual tension is present without it being over the top. If people prefer their stories without explicit details, then this story fits the bill. Reading this story is a real refresher and I really like Harper. I had orginally wanted Jackson and Harper to get together, but now enter Blake (my new favorite). Jane has a good mix of different supernatural characters and weaves a great mystery. Can't wait for the next installment! Don't miss out on a great author, she has so many books to choose from.
Fun book to read. Harper has passed her Witch test to get her magic back. She is still on probation because of using her magic on a human, even though he deserved it. It is the time for the Whitehall Cove fund raiser and Decadent Dessert Contest. Harper's grandmother, has lost the last three years to Bonnie, who belongs to another witch group in town. Gran and Bonnie get in an altercation where both hurt themselves. A short time later, Jackson shows up and arrests Gran for Bonnie's murder. Harper goes to Bonnie's to see if she can figure out who murdered Bonnie and gets caught there by Jackson. Strange things always happens when they get together. Harper ends up finding out new things about her magical ability and the Book Club is trying to peace together who the murderer is. A lot of twists and interesting things happen while they are trying to figure things out.
The Witch Way Paranormal Cosy Mystery series is just such a fun read - I finished this one in 2 nights because once I started I didn't want to stop. Harper again investigates a murder, but this time Gran has been arrested so it's personal. Gran is so much fun too - not your average Grandmother. The book is full of magic with Witches, a vampire and new to this book, a sexy ass Fae! The characters just work well together, which leads to a well rounded story. It did remind me of the Stephanie Plum series - with the 2 sexy male love interests. Harper is struggling with her feelings for both, and both men seem to be into her (although one is taken). And being from Adelaide myself, I really enjoyed the mention of the parents in Adelaide, Australia. I love how it set up for the third book, without ending on a cliff hanger.
Never a dull moment for Harper Jones since she returned to Whitefall Cove and her grandmother Alice Brewer. Harper has her magic back but is still on probation with Drixworths Academyand. Now she has another murder to deal with as Detective Jackson Ward has shown up to arrest her grandmother for the murder of Bonnie Emerson another witch who gran had just had a fight with over the Decadent Desserts Competition. Gran swears Bonnie was alive when she left so Harper will just have to prove that grandmother is innocent and find the real killer. Nothing is ever simple in Whitefall Cove and it will take Harper and Detective Ward along with a few other helpers to prove who the really killed Bonnie Emerson. Thank you to Jane Hinchey for the entertaining review copy. This is a totally enjoyable series.
What is getting ready to happen in Winterfall Cove? What is the running competition that pits Gran against Bonnie? Why does Detective Jackson show up at Gran and Harper's place? What has her calling her parents? Who is Blake Tennant? What is he? What does he do for a living? Things got interesting when Simon showed up! I laughe when Gran got him for what he did to Harper! You have to read to see what she did that had me laughing so hard my sides hurt. I felt relief when Harper's friends rallied around her. Who was behind the murder and why shocked me! This was another book by this author that I could not put down!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
Read this one plus book #2 in one day! More fun and mystery - this time in Australia. Harper is gaining strength in her witchy powers/ Very interesting. The culprit for the murders was a surprise too!
Amazon synopsis: My parents are missing in outback Australia. Only they’ve left me clues. Clues that tell me they were close to a significant discovery – the location of a copper scroll that leads to untold treasures. A scroll that treasure hunters would kill for.
Now I’m in a race against time. Together with my Gran, best friend Jenna, my familiar Archie, and bad boy lawyer Blake Tennant, we head to an outback town called Arrowstrand, where the locals are hiding their own secrets, and I must rely on my magic and blind faith to venture into the unknown.
The stakes have never been higher; can I reach my parents before it’s too late or will they be lost forever?
Did not see that coming! I admit I maybe should have picked up on a couple things thinking back over the story but no matter! Great and unexpected twist. Totally digging the new guy. I really think this book was a bit more developed than the first which made it even more enjoyable. My only thing, I thought “Jesus and god” was overused. I didn’t like that. There was a lot. The first book didn’t have nearly that many references, if any. They were not used in religious manner like prayer but more in the form of cursing. For me, personally, was bothersome and redundant. I’ve really enjoyed the books and sincerely hope there is not a repeat of the usage in the next book. Over all I feel the story as a whole was even better for the second but because of how I feel personally about the usage mentioned I’m only given four stars.
This book was sooo much better than book 1 (Witch Way to Murder & Mayhem). I can honestly say that her not being with the detective was disappointing but then in walks Blake, yummy 🤤. Blake's not only available but also not afraid to go after what he wants, he's VERY protective, & did I mention yummy, an excellent combination. K that's enough drooling 🤤. I laughed so much with book, according to my husband it was giggles☺️. This book was not only extremely funny but we get to meet Simon, yep he's a douche canoe. The whodunnit was also a surprise for me, I really didn't suspect that person. So in closing overall I really liked how this book was written and the characters where excellent.
This series will knock you off your rock! The characters are absolutely hysterical. But, what makes it better is how they compliment each other. The togetherness of them and how situations play out is what really makes it. A tight knit group doesn't just make family, it makes one helluva story. This isn't what your used to from this author, but when you love her style, you will give anything she writes a chance. This was worth it. The hot and dirty parts we are used to, are replaced with suspense and humor. I loved it! BUT, I can't decide if I wanna say it ended with a cliffhanger or a great teaser. Still unsure. This is my voluntary opinion of an advanced copy I received.
Cozy and intriguing but not only because of the murder. With a detective that we do not know what his real intentions are, an attractive and enigmatic older man, a witch who does not know the full extent of her powers and an out of series Gran, this story was an interesting and very entertaining one. Liked the banter, the witty comments, chuckled with the Gran’s outfits, sighed whenever Blake appeared, enjoyed the girls sleuth skills and the plot development with the surprise end that left me eager for the next book. Liked this amusing story with a witch that each time gets more and better.
This was definitely a great continuation for the series. Harper's adventures are interesting and amusing, just like the first book. There was never a dull moment. We get to see the same characters as well as a bunch of new ones. I'm not as big of a fan of the new love interest, but I'm sure he'll grow on me. I liked that I wasn't able to solve the mystery right away. This book leaves you wondering about some things, but in a pleasant way. It absolutely makes you want to read the next one. I am voluntarily reviewing this book, gifted to me by the author, with no obligation.
Harper is at it again. This time a witch from another coven has been killed and due to circumstances Gran has been arrested for the murder. The story takes off from there and a new man Blake who turns out to be a fae and lawyer enters the mix. Jackson still has eyes for Harper but I’m not sure who Harper is going to choose. The story has a great flow and reads really well. I’m loving these murder mysteries from Ms Hinchey and I’m looking forward to reading the next book.
Gran is quickly becoming my favorite character in this series. I absolutely love her and her crazy antics. This time she's the one in trouble and Harper will have her hands full trying to find out who the real killer is. The twists and turns, the fast-pace of the story, and all the humor will keep you glued to the pages. I enjoyed this story more than the first one, and I really enjoyed that one, and I think that's because of the character growth and the building of the relationships. I love that the story is easy to read in one sitting and is light and fun. It's perfect for a weekend read.
This is a laugh-out-loud book. Gran still wears the kookiest outfits. There is a new man (Blake) in Harper's life and he is HOT. Plus there is always Detective Jackson. The best part of the book and I have been looking for a book that has a witches brawl. It's one Coven against another Coven. You don't want to miss this fight. Childest, yes; inmature, yes; goofy and plain crazy. Detective Jackson comes and gets everything under control.
I don't know whether to stomp my foot in impatience or wait quietly! This book came to one very unexpected conclusion and a couple of extra surprises - including one very steamy hot bad boy! The next book being lined up with such a powerful paragraph at the end of the book made me squeal in frustration, but hey! That's what you get with such dynamic characters that you cant help but invest yourself in!
This is the second book in the series and I am so happy to see Harper's gran is just as crazy in this one as the first one. Although this one gran has been arrested and Harper gears up to find out exactly what is going on with the mystery. I love the constant banter between all the characters in this series while they deal with the murder and mayhem. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
I really enjoyed the first Witch Way and couldn't wait to read this one. I zoomed through this book in two sessions (a girl has to work!). The character development is spot on, you can't wait to see what Gran will wear next and the friend network feels like your very own. The storyline is perfectly cozy - I want a piece of the cake - and witch way to romance? I can't wait to find out. A very GoodRead!
This is a fun and entertaining story. I love this new series from one of my favorite authors. I love the characters and the way the humor makes me LOL. I have to say that I am eagerly waiting for the next book. I do love a little craziness in my reading. I received an ARC from the author. I am leaving this Honest review because I choose to and I loved the book. Need a laugh, give it a go. Happy Reading!
I just lover Harper and Gran especially with how much trouble they seem to get into! First it was Harper that looked like a murder but due to her along with gram and her friends help aka Murder Club they found the killer and now Gran appears to be the one needing a cake with a file in it to get out of Jail! There is plenty of hilarity, mystery, delicious food and a hot detective to contend with while Harper tries to clear Grans name. All I can say is I want more and I want it now!! 😍
