Yup, this is where we're at.

Been feeling pretty down lately and finally came to the realization that alcohol was probably not helping the situation. As with all things, I turn to books to help me through it, and this is the audiobook I chose. I thought it was very accepting and nice. It was not preaching NEVER DRINK AGAIN, but also here is a few things alcohol does to you and even a break of a day is better than no break at all. It made me feel less bad.

I actually only made it 3 weeks, then I fell off the wagon. Back on it again as of yesterday for another 3 weeks. I think before this book I probably would have felt very guilty about this - which would have ended up meaning drinking more. But every break of 3 weeks is a good thing.

When I decided to do Dry January, I looked at several books for information about the effects of alcohol and support for eliminating it from my life, at least for a while.

None of the books I looked at were right for me, until I found this one. The writing is clear. The information in compelling. The style is neither judgemental or preachy (a common problem in this type of book). The exercises and visualizations are excellent. I'm even using the Flow visualization to help me get to sleep.

If you want to stop drinking, whether for a while or for good, I highly recommend this book.

It works!

I have tried to stop drinking for years on my own. Even just cut down, as I have had some very bad things happen caused by my drinking. I have purchased online courses which didn’t help.
The title first grabbed me because I thought “hey, this is reasonable, I can do 10 days!” Today is day 10 for me and I feel great! I’m not sure what my next move is but I know my body feels better and I know I’m not dependent on alcohol as I went 10 days without it! I would say this book not only helps with drinking but other aspects of your life can use this wise and reasonable advice!

A Must Read for Anyone Who Wants To Live Happily Sober

This is a brilliant book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to change their relationship with alcohol. I have read a lot of books on this subject looking for advice and direction and for me this is THE ONE. It doesn’t have to be just a 10 day plan, you can set your own goal. Lewis makes the whole ‘journey’ feel completely achievable. For me, it’s all about being happy and comfortable being sober and not feeling like I am missing out and he sets out and explains an ingenious way to achieve this.

Straightforward Easy to Follow

I was using three “10-day” books on stopping drinking. This book very quickly took the lead role. It’s a simple how-to manual with little jargon and lots of practicality. I should disclose, I’m a lightweight wine drinker. It was quickly clear that my addiction was mostly habitual rather than physical. During the pandemic, the routine of a couple of glasses in the evening evolved to a bottle or more a day. Other minor negative behaviors surfaced. Time to stop. The two other books were fine, offering other perspectives; this one works for me. I’ve returned to the beginning of the book and proceeded through the chapters two times more. So far, so good.

This book was a great start to drinking less alcohol. I went through an abusive marriage and my only way to ”relax” was wine. Obviously alcohol has the opposite effect. The book helped me after my seperation to regain my focus and establish my goals. I didnt want to stop drinking forever but I wanted to stop for atleast ten days while enjoying reading, working out and trying again to fall in love with my old self. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a fresh start or reset themselves for a better future. Book also contains helpful exercises to suceed.

I bought the paperback for a family member and the digital version for myself to help me understand. It has a lot of good information and explains how alcohol affects us physically and the emotional triggers that prevent quitting and what to do about them. Heavy drinkers need medical help such as medication to help them through a potentially dangerous detox. It all makes sense, but it’s a tough road and this book may not be enough for some. This book will only help if someone truly wants to quit. My family member hasn’t read it yet, but I hope he does and that it helps him stay sober.

Great little book.

This book is a quick read to help on a journey of sobriety. I can understand it being really helpful for people who don't read a lot. But I wanted much more! David Lewis is clearly a learned professional who writes with great compassion and knowledge. I would have liked much more in depth knowledge to help me on my journey of sobriety. But it may be he has already written that book!

I wanted to cut down on alcohol and thought I would just get this as a source of information to accompany me.

I must say that I weirdly enjoyed reading it!

This book is so much more than about alcohol, it gives you relaxation methods, teaches you so much about how your brain is wired and underlying reasons for habits etc.

I found the way it was written very reassuring, understanding and calming.

He describes Sobriety as a Safety Blanket and that is just a wonderful way of looking at it.

This book really helped me get through this period and helped me understand and cope with what I was experiencing. The author did a little too much referring to his own other works for my taste (eg, "If you like this read my other book") but as a tool to break a cycle, this book worked great. I liked that he didn't preach total abstinence as the only solution, and understood that moderation is attainable for some people. I have the tools now to move forward and do better.

Inspirational

Everything makes sense. He inspires me to extend my alcohol detox from one month to three and some info has opened my eyes to things I never knew before about alcohol and the body. I love his meditation exercise with the leaves floating away on the river. A very worth your while, supportive read. Try it.

Excellent

Not sure where to begin. I have been struggling with alcohol for years, I masked my addiction, and didn't know how to accept it. This book is much more about detoxification, it's about facing the reality of alcoholism. Thank you for a book that was not judgemental. I have already passed it on.

I think book is great for anyone who drinks alcohol, no matter how much. It really puts alcohol in a different context in your mind, which I feel is especially important in a society that loves to drink.

This is a very effective and straightforward plan to pause from drinking alcohol for ten days. This is enough time for the alcohol to completely leave your system. You then reevaluate whether you want to drink again or to do another 10 days.

Look at drinking in a completely different way

Two weeks ago I was drinking up to forty units of alcohol a week. I knew I was doing possibly irreparable harm to my health, I was putting on weight and my habit was costing me a lot. I heard this described as disfunctional behaviour and it certainly felt that way to me. I had my first drink before dinner each evening, a long established habit, then continued, unable ever to have just one. Sometimes no more than two large glasses of wine, but seven days a week ... I started reading The Ten Day Alcohol Detox and stopped drinking. That was two weeks ago, okay, not that long, but I feel so much better, probably psychologically more than physically. I can do it, and yes I may have another drink, just not today. The first three days were hard, lots of ‘urge surfing’ and dodging ‘thought bombs’, but I survived. As Lewis David says, sobriety isn’t the boring unhappy place my drinking self thought, it is a place of comfort and good feelings. Try it!
