I was a bit perturbed about how X-Men #2 spoils X-Force #1 requiring you to read all of the X-titles in the order they were released. I was surprised that all the issues so far are stand alones. There's a gap between each issue with some titles like Marauders having a ton happen off screen or in a text page. That being said everything but Excalibur and Fallen Angels is good to great. Fallen Angels is impossible to follow. Psylocke just mumbles a bunch of philosophical warrior bullshit for 20 pages. Szymon Kudranski's art is it's typical murky self hidden by blacks. It's like trying to watch a movie that's completely in the dark.

I rank the books so far as:
1. X-Men
2. Marauders
3. New Mutants
4. X-Force
5. Excalibur
6. Fallen Angels (I'd actually rank this below pretty much anything Marvel published this month.)

Second volume of Dawn of X means second issues of all the newly rebooted X-Men comics spinning out of Jonathan Hickman's HoXPoX. I've read all but one of them, and here are my quick thoughts.

X-Men #2 (4/5): that's more like it. The first issue was pretty tepid, here we get some more development and signature Hickman world-building goodness. Still not up to par with the greatness of HoXPoX, but it's going in the right direction.

Marauders #2 (4/5): for most people, this will be the book to get out of the entire line. Really cool cast of characters, a fun adventurous story and very nice artwork. Just all around a pleasant read.

Excalibur #2 (n/a): dropped after issue #1.

New Mutants #2 (3/5): this was a bit better than the first issue — probably because it was (surprisingly) fully written by Hickman himself, not co-written with Ed Brison like #1. I'm starting to get a feel for these characters and their dynamics, although I am still a bit annoyed with all the Shi'ar mythology being thrown around like it's common knowledge.

X-Force #2 (3.5/5): Quentin Quire and Wolverine absolutely rock, and for a Benjamin Percy book I am still shocked by how much I enjoy the actual writing here. Maybe I had a wrong impression of the guy and should give him another chance. I am still a bit salty about that stunt killing of a major character from #1, and that plot is still the weakest thing about the entire book so far, but hopefully they'll get it over with soon enough. Otherwise, I really like this.

Fallen Angels #2 (1/5): absolute trash. Ugly, messy, confusing and tone-deaf book written by a guy who seems to not give a shit at all about the characters he's writing — no wonder this book already seems to be on the way out judging by recent news. I used to think better of Bryan Hill, but between this and Boom Studios' Angel reboot, I'm not so sure about his writing skills anymore. Obviously, I am dropping the series.

Overall, the second act of Dawn of X was better than the first with the exception of Fallen Angels, which brought the whole experience down a bit. New Mutants is still kind of a wildcard, and I guess it will always depend on who's writing any given issue. Otherwise, I am quite happy with where the four books I'm sticking with for now seem to be going.

Meh. The Dawn of X is going downhill. This idea for a collection of all titles related to this story arc wasn't bad, but the sheer diversity in the goals/missions what have you is so pronounced that the titles only have a vague similarity between them.

This collects a variety of comics from X-Men and New Mutants to Excalibur and Fallen Angels. With Xavier dead, it seems like everybody is on their own agendas. Mostly this book revolves around Psyloke's adventures, the White Queen irritating the Hellfire Club, and random mutant teams doing random mutant things. Do I sound enthused? I am not. It doesn't help that the art is, for certain issues, mediocre at best.

The entire thing with Xavier's death seemed to be ignored, other than Magneto doing some funeral, and occurs in the background. I can't say that I'm excited to read Volume 3, but I shall have too since I purchased Vol 1-3 as a bundle. But Vol 3 can sit on my shelf for a while. This series is not the type that makes you forget the plenty of other, far superior titles to read.

I give the Dawn of X a heart meh and hope the sun sets on this series soon. It's not that great to me. Volume 3 someday in the future.

1. Marauders
2. X-Men
3. X-Force
4. New Mutants
5. Excalibur
6. Fallen Angels

The second issues of the Dawn of X titles were definitely better than the first issues. This early, the standout titles are Marauders, X-Men, New Mutants, and X-Force. Excalibur is starting to get more interesting. Fallen Angels suffers from being too different in theme, perhaps it is a book more suited for a different time.

Read these as individual comics. In order of best to worst:
Marauders = X-Force > Excalibur = New Mutants > X-Men > Fallen Angels

The stand out stories are from Marauders and X-Force (which I really wasn't expecting). I could look at the artwork in Marauders all day and I really like the gritty paint style to X-Force. It really gives you the impression that they're living on a living island. The content is FANTASTIC and Kitty Pryde taking a "leadership" role is just what I needed in my life. The content of X-Force is way more gritty and visual but I love the mutants we see making a return. 5* from me

Excalibur and New Mutants are ok for me. I was expecting alot more from both but they're still enjoyable. The art in Excalibur is on par with Marauders but I'm having trouble getting invested in the story. Nw Mutants is fun, a romp and witty but I don't think it's hit its stride yet. 3*

X-Men is interesting. Not sure where the story is going but I'm interested. The artwork is nice but not my fave and the relationship between the Summers just makes me awkward. 3* because I want more.

Fallen angles is a mess. I like the characters but not that engaged with the story. The art style leaves a lot to be desired. A cross between realistic pixar animation and Telltale's The Wolf Among us that just gives Kwannon a weird look when she's trying to be serious. 2* but will finish the 6 issues

Yeah, X-Men and X-Force is still my favorite, possibly X-Force more than X-Men. I'm liking Marauders more, mostly because I enjoy seeing Emma vs. Sebastian. They've made Kitty, I mean Kate, out to be the bad-ass she's supposed to be although I think they've compromised her personality a little. New Mutants is better but I never latched onto them growing up so I don't really have a connection to them and simply don't care to read about them. Excalibur is still assembling and building their corner of the island so it's still too early to tell if I like it. Fallen Angels has Sinister which makes it intriguing, but it's hard to follow and I just don't give a crap about Kwannon. Something is building in the background, I suspect the Hand but not really sure. Either way, it is my least favorite.

3.5/5 (all together)

So this was the second issues of the stories that spined off HoX/PoX. All together I liked it better than the first volume. The stories are building up and I'm starting to get a sense of what's going on. (I'm still confused for what happened with Xavier, it's hoax ain't it) now let's take a look at them one by one:

X-MEN (2019) #2 : 4.5/5
Now this is the Hickman world building we know and love. It was a way better than issue one. The characters and everything around them feels both familiar and new at the same time. I loved it.

X-FORCE (2019) #2: 4/5
This version of wolverine is probably one of my most favorites. The story is exciting and characters are building up nicely

MARAUDERS (2019) #2 : 4/5
It's new and exciting with perspectives and characters that might have been a bit out of line and sight in other stories but now are all shining in a new light

EXCALIBUR (2019) #2 : 1/5
WHAT AN UTTER MESS. I'm probably dropping this one. If the next issue goes as the previous ones. I'm just giving it one more chance.

FALLENS ANGELS (2019) #2 : 3/5
Going steady and taking it's time. I enjoyed it.

NEW MUTANTS (2019) #2 : 2.9/5
Better than the previous issue, still has a lot to do to live up to the exception.

The stories are already kind of coming together. I still don't quite have a handle on what is going on in X-men but this issue was a lot more fun. Marauders, Excalibur, and New Mutants are the kind of fun comic book silliness that I enjoy. X-Force is the kind of edgy comic book silliness that I don't enjoy. And Fallen Angels is so atrocious that I spent almost as long trudging through it that I had reading all of others combined.
Overall these are fun, and I'm still really intrigued about how this is going to end (if I ever get there).

This volume contains the second issue of six different X-Men titles each, with very little to no connection between the individual stories. And some of the titles weren't even all that good to begin with.
I had read all of this as single issues when they came out and remember not having been impressed by most of them. I found, for me, this still holds true.

I’m a very casual comics reader. I thought House of X/Powers of X was excellent, but after finishing the second issues of the series stemming from the launch series, I’m not interested enough in any of the stories to want to continue, at least not at the moment.

Summary:

House of X/Powers of X reforged the X-Men, creating a utopia for all mutants to cherish, regardless of their history. This opened the door to many adventures, as the X-Men and other teams work to keep the peace, protect mutants, and forge alliances.

Dawn of X compiles multiple series (X-Men, X-Force, Marauders, Excalibur, Fallen Angels, New Mutants) into one cohesive read in the recommended reading order.

Review:

At this point, I think I’m fully caught up in what I had read from the Krakoan era (yeah, I hadn’t gotten far before I got distracted, and I hate that). I’m happy to be making new progress with this story and am eagerly awaiting a few anticipated reveals and twists.

Overall, I like where the story is going. You can see the cracks forming as characters make compromises and tackle threats they were probably not prepared for. I won’t say that I love every individual adventure, but that’s what happens with a mixed bag like this. As with my last review, I’ll try to quickly write out my thoughts about each issue.

X-Men #2: As expected, the first issue was setting the scene, allowing this second issue to really start pushing the plot. Loving how we’re seeing more of the complications, island, etc. And obviously, this one set the stakes.

Marauders #2: Possibly my favorite arc, for the moment? It’s a little intentionally edgy, but fun. Kate’s trying to find herself, and in doing so, she’s taking the story in a way I wouldn’t have expected.

Excalibur #2: Again, this is my weakest part of X-Men history (forgive me), so half of my time is just trying to keep up with it all. That said, it’s getting pretty interesting, and I’m enjoying seeing a different side.

New Mutants #2: More spacefaring fun, but there are a ton of references to the past. If you don’t have a passing understanding of this past, it’s going to feel like everything is going over your head. It’s okay, but that might make the issue feel like it’s just washing through.

X-Force #2: Quentin Quire and Wolverine on the same team is pretty cool, but then again, I’ve really liked Quentin ever since I read West Coast Avengers (sue me). He’s trying to get away from the Kid mantle, and in doing so has taken a few turns, but it suits the character.

Fallen Angels #2: It almost feels like Fallen Angels wasn’t written as part of the set. I know they’re technically all different series, but this one feels like an outlier, even with that mindset. I didn’t hate it, but I don’t currently love it either.

Reviewing these Dawn of X books by title (I read them as a run for the first 6 issues)… Overall 3.5 stars

X-Men – This was a great run, creative, and I really dug the team. The art was great, and I’ve really grown to like Hickman’s writing. The first issue was very introductory, but the title really hit its pace in book 3. Although the Hordeculture was kind of boring, I really liked the Quiet Council development and book 4 really nailed it when Quiet council met with other world leaders, it was just a great chemistry and power play. I liked the development of some of the characters (Armor and Storm) as well. The 6th book really left a cliffhanger with Mystique and Destiny, I’ll have to pick up future books to see where that plot heads. – 4 stars

Marauders was next. I had very low expectations of this run, based on the characters involved, but holy cow, it turned out to be a surprise hit. Kitty “Call me Kate” Pryde really established herself as a major X-character, and being the central focus of the books lent itself to some deep character development. This may be the best title of the run, and I was totally surprised by that. – 5 stars

Excalibur was my next run. I like Betsy Braddock (usually in her Psylocke form), and can tolerate Rogue and Gambit, but this hodgepodge team felt strained, and the ‘mythos’ of Arthurian lore didn’t really resonate with me in these pages. All around it was just a weird book, and apart from some development for Betsy and Rogue, the writing fell flat to me. Not worth reading, really, but I did like Roguepocalypse. – 3 stars

New Mutants was the next title. Historically, this and X-Force usually were my favorite X-teams, but despite having pulled together some of the classic characters, this book was all around weird. The “space” story was weird and I didn’t like it, and to make it worse, you only get half the story before they cut to a completely unrelated story for 2 books (which was also just a mediocre story). The only takeaway I got from this run was that Boom-Boom establishes herself as a hard hitter, the rest of the book sadly sucked pretty hardcore, which is a huge disappointment to me!! – 2 stars

X-Force was the next run, and it felt a little slow, but I liked the team that appeared. Any time that Logan and Domino team up, you have a hit on your hands. I typically don’t care for Forge, and especially dislike Kid Omega, but at least Forge has a good presence in these pages, and has some cool weaponry as he develops and integrates Krakoan technology into stuff. Black Tom is weird, and may develop later, but this run just made him really odd. I did like Jean’s appearance and raw power as well as Sage’s prowess, but Beast was rubbing me the wrong way. – 4 stars

Fallen Angels is the final run. I love the team of Psylocke/X-23/Kid Cable (I wish it were regular Cable). The premise of the book is a bit odd (it reminds me of Resident Evil), but with that out of the way, the team-up works. Overall the story seemed disjointed, and the art (especially Psylocke’s face) was awkward. – 3 stars

Fallen angels: Bastante mala. No tengo mucho más que decir.

X-men # 2 - the Summers Clan: Cyclops, Prestige, and Cable go on a mission to explore Arakko another living island that is moving towards Krokoa. The two merge and become one island.

Marauders # 2 - This issue is corporate politics in the Hellfire Trading Company between Emma Frost the White Monarch & Sebastian Shawn the Black Monarch about the vacant Red Monarch seat. Meanwhile Kate Pryde is sabotaging Shaw off the coast of Japan. Kate and the Marauders then travel to London to get their new ship and to introduce Kate as the Red Monarch.

Excalibur # 2- Rouge is still in the floral comma from the last issue and the Excalibur team are having the Marauders take them to a lighthouse of the coast of Britain when mermaids attack them. When they get ashore they realize ley Fay has burned down the lighthouse but the Krokoa plant builds a new one with Rouge as the light. As the lighthouse comes under attack Apocalypse comes to defend the lighthouse and Rouge. As Jubilee , Gambit and Captain Britain travel to the Otherworld. In doing so Jubilee tries to take her baby Shogo with her into the Otherworld but on the other side Shogo is not there.

New Mutants # 2- New Mutants are imprisoned and tired for their crimes in the last issue. Unsurprisingly the gecko looking lawyer is terrible and they are found guilty. Cannonball and Smasher save the team and then all of the New Mutants are enlisted into the Imperial military and pardoned of their crimes.

X-Force # 2 -
Picks up on the aftermath of the attack on Krokoa in which 33 mutants were killed and Professor X was assassinated and cerebro was destroyed by the bullet. Beast gets to work on bringing cerebral back online in hopes to resurrect Charles. While Wolverine hunts down those responsible for Charles’ death. Domino appears to be in a semi-alive incubator tank.

Fallen Angels # 2 - Cabel and Psylocke for most of the issue about whether they should be helping people or only tracking down Apoth. In the end Cable wins & the team travels to Brazil to free oppressed people from a prison camp in São Mateus, Brazil. There they are attacked by a giant Robot.

I rate this 4 out of five stars.

I'm still enjoying the way this X-series anthology series flows, but this was a definite step down from volume one. While I'm continuing to enjoy X-Men, New Mutants, and Marauders, and think X-Force is okay, Excalibur and Fallen Angels were both pretty awful. Fallen Angels is a combination of art with too dark a color pallete, and just awful dialogue. It also reads like a story where a writer has some ideas for scenes they think are cool but can't figure out how to make them flow, so he just ... doesn't make them flow. It's very staccato, and annoying to read. Excalibur is better. If you enjoy the Marvel magic universe, it may even be pretty good. I'm just not interested in this chunk of the X-story.

While the art is of various styles in the books, and while I've mentioned my dislike of the style that's being used in Fallen Angels, none of the art in any of the titles is bad. But my favorite chapter from this volume was New Mutants. There were some great panel pops, and layout alterations that made me hungry for more of Rod Reis's art.

If you want a fuller, wide-angle look at the Marvel mutants, reading these Dawn Of X books is really superior than reading the individual trades. But you've got two or three series that you're just not interested in, you might want to just pick out those specific titles.

X-Men #2 is a great time, things are moving at a quick pace as events unfold simultaneously to Hickman’s perpetual world building machine. The art is a little better but still not as good as the flagship book should be. The humour again, I’ve never seen this side of Hickman and I love it. 8/10

Excalibur #2 is a tiny bit better because the story is taking shape and it looks like a fun one. It still can’t save the choppy direction this book has, it feels like an over-edited movie, it’s absolutely jarring and off putting. The art again is serviceable. 5.5/10

Marauders #2 is fucking wild!!!! I was grinning ear to ear the whole time. Kitty is a huge badass, a drinking and swearing terror of the seas! 10/10

New Mutant #2 is good wholesome fun, they team up with the Imperial Guard this time instead of the Starjammers so fun reunion with Sam Guthrie. Great art. 8/10

I wasn’t sure with X-Force but #2 reinforced one thing: I don’t care for the art, especially the colours. Everything looks like it’s smeared in shit. I know, I’m suppose to love Dean White and I do but this issue just looked dirty! The story was fun enough, little team up with Wolvie and Kid Omega, not much forward movement on Krakoa. Overall a 6.5/10

Last but not least (thanks to Excalibur), Fallen Angel #2. Same ugly art but the script and story takes a nosedive. I’m one eyeroll from getting annoyed in this one so it’s a 6/10.

Overall 7.34/10

Marvel ha tomado la discutible idea de editar todos los títulos de los X-men, surgidos a partir de esa joya, ya clásica, que fue "House of X/ Power of X" (Hickman-Larraz, 2019), compilados en tomos correlativos. Este reúne por tanto: X men #2; X-Force #2; Marauders #2; Fallen Angels #2, Excalibur #2 y New Mutants #2.

I do like these editions collecting all the x-stuff! Individual ratings:

X-Men 2: ehhh...so, another solo story that doesn't seem to connect to anything...yet. I'm sure Hickman has a plan. I don't like Kid Cable all that much. 2/5

Excalibur 2: I really don't like this book. I hate the characterization of Gambit. Jubilee with a baby continues to be a bad idea--and honest to god, who takes their infant on field missions. FFS 0/5

Marauders 2: What was sort of okay for me in the 1st collected volume became my fave real fast. Kate's fight scenes are excellent (my favorite part of book 1) That last page...bitch. hahahaha 5/5

New Mutants 2: Ok, Roberto's narration is pretty funny, but I still don't like him. What an ass. Still, I liked it better than the first issue. 3/5

X-Force 2: My other favorite. This book hindered by the manufactured drama of Prof X's death from issue 1. Like, it's a non-issue? We know he'll be resurrected? But I like the style. Looking forward to more, here. 4/5

Fallen Angels 2: I want to like this one more than I do. The art is daaaaark. Like, I'm having problems telling which extreme close-ups are who because I need to determine character from lip shade. The story is okay, but I wish I knew more of what had been happening with Kwannon in the past few years. Also, still don't like Kid Cable. 2/5
