All of the titles except Excalibur and Fallen Angels are great. Fallen Angels is a dumpster fire that thankfully ends next issue. Excalibur just moves at a snail's pace as far as moving the plot along. New Mutants's release schedule is driving me batty. Jonathan Hickman and Ed Brisson are writing two different stories that come out randomly. Maybe this issue will be about the actual New Mutants in space, maybe it will be about none of the New Mutants but some of the New X-Men instead on a farm in Nebraska. Neither story is bad. I'd just like to see one finished before the other one began. Editorially this is a mess because they didn't have the artists get ahead of the schedule before going bi-weekly. X-Men, Marauders, and X-Force are all top notch.

Loooooving it.

It's so nice to be excited about X-books again.

My favorite moment in this volume was in the New Mutants issue when Illyana asks who wants to make out with her, one at a time before she kicks their collective asses!

Reviewing these Dawn of X books by title (I read them as a run for the first 6 issues)… Overall 3.5 stars

X-Men – This was a great run, creative, and I really dug the team. The art was great, and I’ve really grown to like Hickman’s writing. The first issue was very introductory, but the title really hit its pace in book 3. Although the Hordeculture was kind of boring, I really liked the Quiet Council development and book 4 really nailed it when Quiet council met with other world leaders, it was just a great chemistry and power play. I liked the development of some of the characters (Armor and Storm) as well. The 6th book really left a cliffhanger with Mystique and Destiny, I’ll have to pick up future books to see where that plot heads. – 4 stars

Marauders was next. I had very low expectations of this run, based on the characters involved, but holy cow, it turned out to be a surprise hit. Kitty “Call me Kate” Pryde really established herself as a major X-character, and being the central focus of the books lent itself to some deep character development. This may be the best title of the run, and I was totally surprised by that. – 5 stars

Excalibur was my next run. I like Betsy Braddock (usually in her Psylocke form), and can tolerate Rogue and Gambit, but this hodgepodge team felt strained, and the ‘mythos’ of Arthurian lore didn’t really resonate with me in these pages. All around it was just a weird book, and apart from some development for Betsy and Rogue, the writing fell flat to me. Not worth reading, really, but I did like Roguepocalypse. – 3 stars

New Mutants was the next title. Historically, this and X-Force usually were my favorite X-teams, but despite having pulled together some of the classic characters, this book was all around weird. The “space” story was weird and I didn’t like it, and to make it worse, you only get half the story before they cut to a completely unrelated story for 2 books (which was also just a mediocre story). The only takeaway I got from this run was that Boom-Boom establishes herself as a hard hitter, the rest of the book sadly sucked pretty hardcore, which is a huge disappointment to me!! – 2 stars

X-Force was the next run, and it felt a little slow, but I liked the team that appeared. Any time that Logan and Domino team up, you have a hit on your hands. I typically don’t care for Forge, and especially dislike Kid Omega, but at least Forge has a good presence in these pages, and has some cool weaponry as he develops and integrates Krakoan technology into stuff. Black Tom is weird, and may develop later, but this run just made him really odd. I did like Jean’s appearance and raw power as well as Sage’s prowess, but Beast was rubbing me the wrong way. – 4 stars

Fallen Angels is the final run. I love the team of Psylocke/X-23/Kid Cable (I wish it were regular Cable). The premise of the book is a bit odd (it reminds me of Resident Evil), but with that out of the way, the team-up works. Overall the story seemed disjointed, and the art (especially Psylocke’s face) was awkward. – 3 stars

3.25ish stars.

All over the place. It's got great issues (Marauders, X-Men), good issues (New Mutants, X-Force), and awful issues (Excalibur, Fallen Angels). I can't figure out why people are liking this iteration of Excalibur so much.

Marauders #5

oooooohhhh. Your art changed. It's all smooth and bright now. I might really like this.
Gooodddddddd. Look at you two adorable, terrible two.

"Blah blah blah kitty blah danger blah blah"
"..... call her Kate."

Oh, Jean. Your girl looks stunning in this art. As does Kate. And like everyone. I just really enjoy the art in this issue. I hope they stay.

askadj;kldjfg Emma calling her Katherine. I love how House/Powers/Dawn gives us both cold, ruthless, tactically professionally smart Emma, and then these deeply tender scenes as well. My heart for this just passed out between them, with the shoutout all the way back to Kitty's intro.

hhhuummmnnaaa Ororo stabbing someone in the eye.

GUH Kate phasing an entire boat through another one.

Excalibur #5

eeeeeeeeee savage land-esque clothes.

Rogue, I love you havin' your dream journey, but that last look is not a good one on you. I am curious what they plan to do with your arc, and with Apoc's plans for you.

New Mutants #5

.... and we're back to that earlier art.

For the Dawn of X books, I’ll be reviewing each issue individually

Marauders #5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Fun issue! Great action and art as always, and this new mysterious villain is interesting, but it just felt ever so slightly lacking- I can’t give it a perfect score.

Excalibur #5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Rogue returns! Loved seeing her wake up and take action, and that twist at the end was awesome. Loved the action, loved the dialogue, but story wise it just felt a liiiiiiittle lacking. Same issue as Marauders #5. But nothing to get too upset about- both were still great issues!

New Mutants #5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fun issue, but I honestly like the Armour crew more than Sunspot’s gang in space. Nonetheless, I still had a good time! Nice art, fun action… “do YOU want to make out?”

X-Force #5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love seeing heroes trying to control their anger when everything goes to hell, and that’s exactly what happened here- tracking down the supposed clone soldiers only to learn these ones were humans created such an interesting inner conflict within Domino and it was so fun to read about. I really enjoyed this issue!

Fallen Angels #5: ⭐️⭐️✨
This series is such a mixed bag but this issue was still okay. The revelation that Psylocke shouldn’t teach others the way she was thought was interesting, but I don’t know… because this series is so self contained Apoth fails to feel like a real threat, and the art direction just isn’t doing it for me. Definitely the weakest comic in the Dawn era by far.

X-Men #5: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This issue kiiiind of confused me because I don’t really understand what’s going on with the vault but I also don’t know if I’m supposed to? Regardless it was cool to see Cyclops in a leadership role and I loved that moment between X-23 and Wolverine- you know the one.

Overall, I’d give this volume ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. There were some hiccups and some weird moments but I still enjoyed it.

So far, it seems that each title has been setting up at least one villain per book (sometimes that villain is internal.)

3 stars - Marauders: Still not bad. Not sure I like Kitty...I mean Kate being a drunk. The main villains are weird, uppity, super smart rich kids. This title hits the middle of the road when it comes to tone. A little playful and fun, but still intriguing and has some action. It may be trying to hit too many things at once.

2 stars - Excalibur: A little better, some of the nicer art in this volume. Maybe I missed something but I don't understand why Apocalypse looks and acts different from the version in X-Men. He's also suddenly a magician after all these years.

3 stars - New Mutants: I actually prefer this half of the team, basically the original members out in Shiar space. The other half of the team (last issue) seem to be the new "X-Babies". I realized that I just don't like Sunspot.

3 stars - X-Force: Mostly action and a little more revealed about this team's bad guy. Also not really sure the Beast would take the role he has in the new Krakoan society, but Marvel is constantly changing him to fit their needs. Don't really care for the art.

1 star - Fallen Angels: *yawn*

3 stars - X-Men: More about one of the new threats which I think were featured in an earlier issue. That's once thing I don't like about this book: each issue tends to jump to a totally different subplot. I hope that's just part of the "setting up" of this new status quo for the X-Men. Another bold move by Scott and Charles. A couple small moments between Logan and Laura that I liked. Silva's art is pretty good.

So all together it's 4/5 for me. Here is what I thought on every issue:

X-MEN #5 :4.5/5
Yessssss ! I love the fact that each issue offers an amazin story. It feels like old time with each one havin a different plot and i really enjoy that because each one is thought through and not overdone.

MARAUDERS #5 : 3.8/5
It's witty and playful and all shiny colors. The characters are well placed and I love how these villains are bein presented. It probably the most fun readin x-book among this collection for me so far.

X-FORCE #5 : 3/5
I fill like this one needs to raise it's game a bit. Bringin on more interestin characters and a bit more plot twist. I'm not exactly a fan of Beast(who am I foolin , i don't like him at all) but they gotta make the decision about his role at this point.

NEW MUTANTS (2019) #5 : 3/5
Still don't like Kitty. Btw i used to feel strongly for new Mutants in the classics but i guess it has lost its touch for me. I mean the are and the plot is gettin somewhere and it's nice but still lacks the richness of it.

FALLEN ANGELS #5 : Dropped

COLLECTS X-MEN (2019) #5, X-FORCE (2019) #5, MARAUDERS #5, EXCALIBUR (2019) #5, FALLEN ANGELS (2019) #5 and NEW MUTANTS (2019) #5

Every month, and in every "Dawn of X" collection, the main "X-Men" title is the strongest of the bunch. I've been continually impressed by Gerry Duggan's "Marauders," though. I look forward to reading that issue in each of these collections. My favorite characters in the "Marauders" cast are Kate Pryde, Emma Frost, and Bishop.

This collection also featured the best issue so far for both "Excalibur" and "Fallen Angels."

There are two different story lines happening in the "New Mutants" title, and this collection features the better of the two story lines.

Here is my ranking of the collected issues in this volume:

1. X-Men
2. Marauders
3. New Mutants
4. X-Force
5. Excalibur
6. Fallen Angels

Předposlední díl prvních vlaštovek. Pořadí už je neotřesitelné. Marauders mě baví - mají moje oblíbené postavy a dostatek politikaření.
X-men a X-Force táhnou hlavní děj kupředu, byť teda u X-menů mám pocit, že se vždycky otočí nějak moc stránek najednou, ale pořád mi to přijde dobře napsané. X-Force vyrábí tolik nepřátel, že jich za chvíli bude mnohem víc než samotných mutantů. Tak se při troše štěstí nikdy nespojí.
New Mutants zase náhodně přeskočili k druhé příběhové lince.

I believe I prefer reading the X books in the Dawn of series and not in the collected by title format. The X-Men are really the highlight.

These issues really jump around and my biggest fear is losing some of these storylines.

My overarching issue with the Hickman-helmed X-Men line thus far is that while Hickman is very ironclad in terms of concept and plot, infusing characterization and personality into his stories are not his strongest aspects as a writer. And because this run of the franchise line is fairly tightly under one major conceptual umbrella than other more diversified eras, there is a bit of sameness in some of the books. X-Men and X-Force feel tonally interchangeable. Fallen Angels, too, if I were to be honest. Marauders, New Mutants, and Excalibur evade this issue partially because they are for different reasons removed from the central conceit of the Krakoa era. And also because those books have a wider berth and aren't overwhelmed by the big concept of the new status quo. They can have freebooting pirate fun, or madcap space silliness, or high fantasy.

And more importantly, they're allowed to be fun, to have joie de vivre. Something I just can't get past in the Hickman-written sections is just how dour they are. The mutant population has cracked two problems that have haunted them for decades: they not only have their own nation but the leverage to make them a desireable trade ally among nations. And characters who have been long dead and thought lost for the ages are back and thriving in droves when this time ten years ago, their numbers were depleted to less than 200. They should be jubilant, feel united, and secure and safe in their new homeland in a way they never have previously. But Hickman just writes everything like a very cold, clinical political thriller. And it gets hard to get invested with the characters as he writes them because they feel so flat, static, and functioning more as instruments of a concept instead of the fully fleshed out characters with inner lives he's inherited.

I am absolutely gushing at Marauders at this point. Issue #5 is literally everything I wish to see in a comic. Duggan was born to write Kitty. Lolli’s art was sexy AF. 10/10

Excalibur #5... I’m starting to suspect To’s storytelling ability or absence of them might be another reason for how jarring this book is to read. Soooooo many panels see to be missing. This has been the most consistent book, never awful, never good. Always mediocre. 6/10

New Mutant is back with the good team for #5. Hickman writing Sunspot is *almost* as fun as Duggan writing Kitty. It’s awesome to see this team all grown up, drinking, flirting and trying to fuck aliens. 9/10

X-Force #5 is full of blood, gore and violence and I love it. That scene when Forge slaps Wolvie back together... ouff. I do find the colourist musical chair game they’re playing a little weird but it’s a very minor thing. 8.5/10

Fallen Angels................................ 1/10

I’m starting to figure out X-Men. What we have here is a world builder at work. Laying different plot lines and intrigue in every chapter. The threat of the human gouvernements, Orchis, Golden Girls, the Summoner and now the Children of the Vault have all been revealed in 5 issues. It’s just a matter of time before Hickman starts weaving those together in what I assume will be awesome and on a larger scale than his Fantastic Four and Avengers run. This particular issue was great btw, 9/10

Nonstop blast for every series!

Every book looks beyond phenomenal, some of the best they have each looked already!

Excalibur's direction just gets better and better each issue! Loads of crazy angles and the direction of the series starts to really be revealed!

Hickman's The New Mutants finally started hitting for me this issue! Roberto is creative and funny. The Generation X members finally address how they feel about being thrown into this.

X-Force finds a way to blend its violent badassery with the new Krakoan tools in a big way!

Fallen Angels remains being the weakest link.
While I am happy to see some of the characters that get added here, this book furthers keeps feeling like someone who only knows the 2000s X-Men is writing it. Like we have so far moved on. That being said, the ideology of teaching and students is interesting explored and showing the dichotomy of it now.

The X-Men have practically never looked better and Im extremely intrigued by another new plot idea thrown in here!

X-Force 5: Love the 'you became the one percents' stuff. The rest is still great. Most stable Dawn of X serie in the quality department! 4☆
X-Men 5: The timeline is getting confusing with X23 and Wolverine being in this and in Fallen Angels & X-Force. Still great story though. 3,5☆
Excalibur 5: Just like Marauders the big bad reveal is a bit to predictable in a story that deserves better. Lot of fighting and a nice dreamsequences by Rogue. Great cliffhanger 3,5☆
Marauders 5: The new art style is mweh and the bad guy reveal underwhelming. Still nice characters and love the antropocene joke scene. 3,5☆
New Mutants 5:Annd where back in ugly-art-outer-space. I'm slowly starting to know some of these characters but still find the story's tone of voice and artstyle a mismatch. 2,5☆
Fallen Angels 5: Generic getting the team together montage and oh oh is mister sinister having sinister plans? Predictable and all the Japanse stuff is geting old fast. 2☆

Marauders #5: A lot of fun. I'm enjoying the story, action scenes are great, art is great, I like the interplay between characters. 5/5

Excalibur #5: Extra star for this issue because of Rogue. I prefer her written by Kelly Thompson, but this is okay. 2/5

New Mutants #5: Bobby is hilarious even though I don't like him. Some good stuff here. 4/5

X-Force #5: Just some gross stuff in this issue--I don't think anybody is reading this title not expecting the violence & gore?--but Domino's half-skinned body is a visual turn off, even as her emotional arc is quite compelling. Still think Forge's bio-armor is lame. 5/5

Fallen Angels #5: I like the panel borders, some of them are quite pretty. Otherwise, the art is terrible. I hate it & it's interfering with the enjoyment of the story--which might be good? Who knows. 1/5

X-Men #5: I like it. 5/5

Still just an odd way of collecting these stories being that they don't really interconnect like the crossover events of yesteryear. The titles themselves aren't in any specific order themselves, for example X-men can be the first part of one collection and then the last part of another. General review of the series:
Marauders-Fun
X-men: Random but is the flagship, lots of interesting stuff happening
Excalibur: Just nonsense, not good
New Mutants: Basically combines New Mutant Cast with some Generation X cast both historically serious books (with New Mutants having a fantasy/horror streak) now with some goofy space adventure. It's not great but I like the characters
X-Force: It's interesting, doesn't cover any new ground. It's basically the R rated stuff that's no longer really that appealing or edgey.
Fallen Angels: Just Garbage

Marauders: 4
Pretty much filler until the end, but I love even the filler of this series

Excalibur: 3
I really have no clue how we go to this point, I guess we advanced the plot (finally) but I don’t care about the cliffhanger, starting to lose faith in the series

New Mutants: 4
I think I just like being on a different setting (cough marauders cough) I loved the issue so much fun, from now on I hope we mainly focus on their space adventures

X-Force: 3.5
A really long fight scene that was still entertaining and that finally moved the plot along

Fallen Angels: 1
I literally have no idea what the helll happened on the series, so it’s all just word vomit to me, I’m so happy it ends next volume

X-Men: 3

How are we on issue five and still introducing new stuff, please get a clear direction and plot, that’s a note on all the titles actually

Again, X-Men, X-Force, and Marauders are great. Excalibur is very slowly growing on me, and so is New Mutants. Right now, New Mutants has this weird thing where two entirely different stories are being written by two entirely different writers, and one story isn't finished before bouncing back to the previous one. Not really a fan of that, but I at least found the cast entertaining in the space half. Fallen Angels is by far the worst. It seems like even the other X-books are ignoring it, because Laura also shows up in X-Men, wearing a different costume and basically acting like nothing in Fallen Angels is happening. This is the book I won't miss at all.

Okay, this book represents a lot of the different story arcs really maturing. Apocalypse's plan in Excalibur, but I don't quite understand the long-term implications. X-Force has some great action but the larger plot is still unfolding. The X-Men book took a side-step to a different mission entirely. The New Mutants are struggling to get Deathbird delivered safely and naturally, things are going to be complicated. Even the Fallen Angels have expanded their ranks (in a way that sorta contradicts X-Men) and have a clear adversary in their sights.

A lot of plates in the air. A lot of good potential.

I’m basically reusing a review across this series, as it seems to hold as things go on. Overall it’s a bunch of highs and lows. Some books are consistently excellent (Marauders, X-Force, Wolverine, and it looks like X-Factor & Hellions will join that group) while some are middling to mediocre (Excalibur being the worst of the lot, plus Cable being so-so, and the main X-Men book varying in quality from one issue to the next). I’m still reading, so the overall whole is quality, and the whole setting that they’ve established is still unique and intriguing. It’s like a house of cards that we know is doomed to fall eventually, it’s just a question of when and how)

Yup, Fallen Angels is whack.

Excalibur isn't holding my attention which is a shame because I thought the combination of swords, sorcery and mutants would be right up my alley.

New Mutants is meh.

X-Men... I am confusion.

X-Force, it's weird to say I thought it was too violent! It's like their whole spiel! Ridiculous is my name. But the reason I like superheroes is because they make the tough choices. They do the right thing. But with that ending, I don't think they did. Which again, is weird to say about a X-Force title!
