The story of the Kruger National Park from 1902 when James Stevenson-Hamilton was placed in charge of it until his retirement in 1946. This book is illustrated with photographs taken from the archives of the National Game Parks head office in Pretoria.
Fascinating insights into the history of the Kruger National Park as seen through the eyes of its founding warden and custodian of this iconic national park. a good read.
The early development of the Kruger Park written by Stevenson-Hamilton. An interesting read that gives one a glimpse into the early days of the Kruger and the challenges and obstacles faced by Stevenson-Hamilton when it came to the creation of the park. Well worth a read, like stepping back in time and experiencing what it must have been like in the formative years of the park.
With a dry wit and a trenchant insight into human nature, Hamilton is an author whom I thoroughly enjoy. He writes superbly.
This is a poignant story of the birth of one of my favourite places in the world. One only hopes that as our embattled country finds its way out of these dark times that Hamilton's "Cinderella" will one again be afforded the dignity and respect she is due.
Is it a novel? Is it a biography? Is it something else? Weird, dry text, written by someone with the mentality of a today's governmental bureaucrat: if there is a problem, we have the solution and all you have to do is pay the taxes, now, if the solution is useless, don't worry, just send us more money.
