The Good Girl

Rate this book
I’m a good girl. I work hard, look like your average girl, do everything in moderation, and I certainly don’t make a habit of going into strangers' hotel rooms dressed in sexy lingerie and killer heels. That is, until I meet her. When a mysterious woman buys me a drink at a hotel bar in New York, I never expect her to impact my life the way she does. From the moment she lays eyes on me there’s little point fighting my desires because she seems to know them better than I do... The Good Girl is the naughty debut novella by Madeleine Taylor, author of lesbian erotica.

While I’ve been reading more and more erotica lately, I’m by no means an expert, and I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by how varied a genre it is. In the last, say, three months, I read The X Ingredient by Roslyn Sinclair, Party of Three by Sandy Lowe (the audiobook version, perfectly narrated by Lori Prince), Double Six by Brenda Murphy and now this one, The Good Girl by Madeleine Taylor. The only common feature between these four books is how hot they are. If I had to describe each of them in one word, beyond their sexy qualities, I’d say fun for the first one, light for the second one, BDSM for the third and tender for The Good Girl.

Madeleine Taylor’s first erotic novella loses no time in building tension. It begins with Emily Evans, a thirty-five-year-old sales manager from Arizona, walking down a New York hotel corridor to get to the room of a woman she met an hour before at the bar. That’s not who she is, as she keeps telling herself, and she’s excited and terrified in equal measure. The one-night-stand turns into two nights, then more, despite neither woman expecting anything serious to come of a few hours of really hot sex. And yet, very early in, it becomes rather obvious that the lust they share is some sort of prelude to a most unexpected love. Sometimes people just click. I know not everyone believes in instalust, let alone instalove, but neither bothers me when they’re written the right way. If I can feel the pull between the characters, I don’t care whether it’s instantaneous or if takes them eons to get together.

The story is told in first person, from Emily’s point of view, which enhances the mystery of the other woman and the thrill of the encounter. Emily’s life revolves entirely around her job, she has been sacrificing every thing else to advance her career. Her strict protestant upbringing means she’s also very used to keeping her emotions in check. She doesn’t miss having a love life, seemingly content with once in a while dating women she meets through apps. The compelling desire she experiences with this woman, the lengths she’s ready to go to to fulfil it, all of it is brand new to her.

This novella is beautifully written. I’ve noticed that I tend to comment on the writing more often with erotica than with other genres. While I can enjoy a romance even if the writing is just okay, I’m a lot more demanding with erotica. It’s too easy for sex scenes to turn tacky or sleazy. That’s not a problem with this book at all, however. The characters are intriguing, the pace is good – despite a slight slump leading to the last part, but nothing significant – and the story succeeds in being both steamy hot and sweet.

The ebook and paperback will be released on November 29th and can be pre-ordered already, and an audiobook, narrated by Tessa Stavers, will follow soon.

I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

More, oh god MORE!

The reason. After reading the blurb and spotting the words 'sexy lingerie' and 'killer heels', I was sold. To say that I'm a little in love with this book is a bit of an understatement. It has everything I want in good erotica and is going on my all time favorites list.

The good girl. I adore Emily Evans. From her newfound love for sexy lingerie to high heels and red bedroom walls, this woman had me wrapped around her finger. Add to that her fantastic character development from timid good girl to femme fatale in pencil skirts and satin blouses and I'm a goner.

The stranger. This mystery woman with a tough exterior and soft marshmallow center also had me swooning. Yes, she has more secrets than the entire cast of Scandal, so what? I love a woman who can take charge and be dominant without being domineering but can also let someone else take charge.

The plot. Who cares, did you not read those paragraphs up ↑ there? Fine. The plot involves a bit of mystery regarding the stranger's identity and job and will require you to suspend your disbelief a bit. Despite this, the book is well written for a debut novella mainly due to the detailed description of Emily's thought process.

The erotica. Everything from the sexual acts and toys, even the positions had me slack-jawed. These are some of MY favorite things. Yes they were all really hot but they were also packed with emotions. No matter how vanilla or rough the sex scene got, the underlying emotional connection between the main characters was always present.

After all; "Sex is emotion in motion." ~Mae West

Solid debut novella.. I’m not a big fan of erotic reads, but every once in a while I would go for it.. this one is on KU and I’ve read so many good reviews on it so I thought of giving it a shot. I wasn’t disappointed to be honest !
What I liked the most is the writing .. there wasn’t something unbelievably exceptional here I have to say, but as a debut, this author definitely got my attention and I will be waiting to read more of her work!

The Good Girl is Madeleine Taylor‘s debut erotic novella and I loved it when I first read it. I had only heard Tessa Stavers in one audiobook before, and I was worried her voice would sound a little too innocent for this. Which was a bit silly, since as the title says, this is the story of a “good girl”, as Emily sees herself. Besides, Tessa Stavers did a good job at the different voices and overall narration.

I didn’t get into the story as deeply as when I read it, in part because I found the narration a tad too dramatic, but also, I think, because there was no element of surprise this time. I already know how well Madeleine Taylor writes and how sexy her books are, so I didn’t experience that happy feeling one gets when falling in love with a new author. I did, nevertheless, enjoy the storyline, the chemistry between the characters, the steamy hot scenes (duh). I’m looking forward to listening to Tessa Stavers narrating Taylor’s second book, Online, and to reading the author’s third, Masquerade, which is announced for August 27th.

If you’re like me, you might enjoy this audiobook more if you haven’t read the book first. Whatever you decide, listening to it won’t be a waste of your time. Just don’t listen at work. Or in public transport.

Hot and delicious! All 4 of Ms. Taylor's novellas have gotten 5 stars from me, and they all follow a relatively similar setup and progression. But all the characters are all v. different, and I think I liked these 2 leads the best. Can't say why for sure... maybe because I know just how 🔥hot🔥 it is to be seduced in a bar, which is the delicious hook here 😀.

The setup is good, the physical scenes hot and involving, and the relationship development is a neat will they / won't they. Top erotica, a don't-miss-this-one if you enjoy the genre.

Solid read and a very promising debut for Madeleine Taylor.

The sex was very hot and there was a nice bit of mystery to 'May' and a real sexual awakening for good girl Emily. Highly enjoyable read!

f/f very hot sexytimes, strap-on action

Themes: mystery woman, Emily does things and feels 'out of character' but it is good for her, hotel room hook-up.

Review of ‘The Good Girl’ by Madeleine Taylor, Audiobook narrated by Tessa Stavers

During a business trip in New York, Emily Evans has a one night stand with a woman that she meets at a bar. One night of passionate sex leads to a second one and Emily feels her attraction growing stronger, even though she knows very little about the mysterious woman. Is her attraction one-sided? And what kind of secrets does she hide?

This is the first book published by Madeleine Taylor, but judging by the quality of the writing, it doesn’t have the typical shortcomings of a debut novel. It’s hard to determine if this is a pseudonym for an already established author though I suspect it is. Regardless, this novella is a very good example of how to write lesbian erotica.

Written in first person from the exclusive point of view of Emily, the story follows her sexual experimentations which clash with her usual ‘good girl’ behaviour. The sexual affair challenges Emily’s preconceptions of who she thinks she is contrasting with how she was raised in a religious family. As she starts to uncover the secrets hidden by the mysterious woman, Emily will either have to follow her heart or go back to her boring life.

I love that this book is not only a hot erotica story but also a character’s identity exploration with a little side of intrigue and romance. Emily is a surprisingly multilayered and deep character for an erotica novella. Ms. Taylor definitely goes the extra mile for this kind of stories making it more meaningful and extra enjoyable.

The audiobook is narrated by Tessa Stavers who was new to me though not new to this genre. I’ve really enjoyed her performance, she made it sound authentic and exciting which is no easy feat. Her voices were distinctive and natural, even the male ones. I’d heard good things about the novella itself but I wasn’t expecting such a top-notch audio performance. Highly recommended.

Overall, a very good lesbian erotica audiobook with a bit of substance and romance on the side recommended for the fans of the genre. 5 stars.

Duration: 4 hours and 3 minutes.

I read Corrie's and Alexis' reviews and knew I had to buy this. Their reviews so far have been spot on.

I loved this cheesy plot and how fast lesbians move. I freaking LOVED the intimate scenes between Emily and the mysterious stranger. The plot was good for what it was, I wasn't expecting anything too much based on the length.

I need more of Madeleine Taylor's writing!

What a way to start the new year off. This is one sexy, steamy age gap erotic novella, I honestly couldn't put it down it was so good! I loved the connection between the two MCs. It's unreal, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. 🔥

I loved the storyline, Emily hooking up with a stranger and having the most mind-blowing night of her life leave her wanting more. It leaves the reader wanting more just as much as Emily wants it. 🥵

I will definitely be reading more from Madelaine. The Good Girl is erotica through and through, and one I will definitely read again, and I highly recommend it!

That was HOT!

An erotica novella, but has a plot and also a deeper connection between the two lovers. Plus actual character development, too. Colour me - well still red faced, but impressed!

If you're into some sexy naughtiness with a bit more substance to the plot, without it being too overly dramatic or distracting, (just enough to keep you interested) then I highly recommend this - on Kindle Unlimited.

Great debut novella. It was pretty. The story was a bit of a miss for me in places but well…erotica. It did have a plot but I really think that can only go so far when it’s such a short read.

Not interesting.

What did I just read?
Smut with a side story I could have done without. I had some hopes from this based on the blurb but I ended up disliking the story. From almost the first line we jump straight into the erotica. The sex scenes weren’t anything special in my opinion, I just couldn’t connect to the characters. I get that it’s a novella but it just didn’t work for me. Instead of developing a ridiculous side story the author could have built more on the smut and feelings.

Debut erotica novella from this author, but you wouldn't know that by reading it. This was definitely hot but tender too, with toy play (strap), slight BDSM. Free on KU, quick read shortly over 100 pages.

Oh my goodness...all I can say is OOF! *fanning self* Well - I'll say a bit more. This is very well written erotica that manages to be smokin' hot, sweet in moments, and ultimately romantic! Narrator Tessa Stavers' voice and interpretation is just perfect for this - and at 4 hours, it's just the right length. This story of a woman's sexual awakening after she meets a stranger at a bar on a business trip was published by Lise Gold Books so you know what kind of quality you are getting with that name attached. Seriously - I enjoyed the hell out of it. Fair warning - you may need to strap yourself down to prevent you from sliding right out of your chair!

SO SEXY!!
OMG this book was so awesome, it brought me to my knees! And more than once!!! Sweet, good girl Emily works for a fabric company and she is often sent out of town to promote their work. There is really nothing more to her life than work and the occasional hook up with an online date that never goes very far. While in NYC, at the hotel bar, she meets an incredibly sexy woman who sets her blood on fire. The mysterious and powerful woman tells Emily that she expects to see her in her room in an hour. Emily is too attracted to do anything but be there… After the best sex of their lives, the mystery lady still refuses to tell her true name but there is something about them both that has them meeting up again and again….

WOW, WHEW and I need a cigarette, even though I don’t smoke…. This book made me nearly lose my mind with desire and lust! I’ve read the book twice now and it STILL does me in just remembering it!!! Mystery Lady is too hot to handle and lovely Emily loves her as much as I do. I LOVED the story too! It was so well written and intriguing. I was fascinated by it and couldn’t read fast enough. It was a delight! I am CERTAIN that you will adore this story too, but don’t read it at work or in public unless teasing yourself in places you can’t take care of the heat your body will experience is your thing, then you should totally do that! Either way, just read it, you will NOT regret it!!!

A novella based around Emily, your ordinary office girl, striving to do her best at a job she doesn't like. A good girl raised in a religious family living on her own with nothing much to look back on and nothing much to look forward to. Emily is currently outstation in New York for work, and the book starts with her walking to a stranger's hotel room for a one night stand.

The story is not solely on sex (which is this book has a LOT) and romance, but there is a mystery revolving our stranger as well.

Unfortunately, this book just doesn't do it for me. Too quick. With the begging, crying, and revealing years-long secrets to someone you don't know after not even a few nights. Plus a few more things I won't get into. I understand chemistry, but I guess the logic side of my brain is just screaming NO.

I know this book has mostly good reviews, I'm just on the opposite side of the spectrum for this one.

Madeleine Taylor is an alias used by author Lise Gold. I've read another one of her books to which I rated 2 stars as well. Maybe I'm just not a compatible reader to this author. Got this wrong here sorry! Lise Gold Author published Madeleine's books and Madeleine remains anonymous as far as I know.

I loved Madeleine's Taylor Online, so maybe this one is just a dud for me. Looking forward to her next book.

1.5 stars.

Would you take a chance? Emily doesn’t know it yet, the night she walks into the hotel bar and meets the sexy stranger “May”. She doesn’t know that her world is about to come undone after the night she’s about to have. She doesn’t do things, like going to a strangers hotel room and letting them take her to new heights. She’s a “good girl” and she’s about to find out how naughty a good girl can be!
A word of warning, don’t read this book in public! The seat squirm level is a 10 and moaning in a doctor’s waiting room is definitely embarrassing! Enjoy this one. I did!

This was...okay but I think I'm totally spoiled where erotica is concerned. First, I should say my review may be colored by the fact that I don't like books in the 1st person. The writing has a tendency to be over the top and way too flowery instead of forming an individual personality. This one struggled with that individual personality. Sometimes it was there sometimes not. For me, it would have been hotter if the author was able to achieve this. It didn't ring my bell but that's just me. Still recommended because, for others, it could be the best thing since sliced bread.

This was pretty hot! I loved the mystery revolving around May/Blake in the beginning. I thought she was like a spy or something, but I was also happy when we found out what she did for a living. It’s cool too hehe and I loved their chemistry and the intensity between them,,even though there was no build-up or anything, but it was still breathtaking. You could feel that they were attracted to each other but there was also more happening between them, the kind of love that creeps up on you without you even realizing and out of nowhere very suddenly and it’s so intense that makes you dizzy. Even I fell in love with both characters. They were perfect and their dynamic was very sexy. Really enjoyed this short story. 100% recommend

DNF after chapter 2. That's gotta be a record-breaker for the quickest I'd been to give up on a book.

To begin with, this novella had no buildup and went straight to sex. Aside from it being instantaneous, the attraction was unconvincing. I'm not fond of butch-femme pairings in my lesfic, but that wasn't the deal-breaker for me. There's something clinical about how this was written that ruined my interest to continue reading it.

If you're like me, who finds it hard to recover your interest once you get to a part of the book that turned you off (especially if it's at the beginning lol), you might wanna stay away from this one.

The Good Girl (Audible) by Madeleine Taylor
I decided to give this one a listen this time. My first time through was on Kindle. It is hot and fun. The Audible is also well done. It is around 4 hours if you listen at normal speed. We start with an average woman. She is the woman next door nothing flashy.

When you place her in a New York bar and allow a woman to buy her a drink, you never know what can happen. The urge and inner need explode. The novella is very hot. I liked the MC's. It gave me the thought it is fun and nice to be naughty. It is worth the read or the listen or both. 4 stars on Audible and Kindle.
