He gives me everything despite me not deserving it, but what do I give him?

Ky is an intimidating man. An overworked cop. A perfect son. He has spent the past sixteen years trying to be enough, to be worthy. Fear of anyone finding the skeleton in his closet has kept everyone at arms reach.

Nicholas is sex on legs. Sydney’s most eligible millionaire. And totally uninterested in commitment.

Ky knows he shouldn’t ask for more, that he doesn’t deserve more. But when he meets playboy Nicholas, things get messy. What happens when Nick breaks down Ky’s walls and makes him crave more? What will happen when Nick sees behind that wall and learns his secret? When Nick is everything he ever wanted, what happens when he has nothing to offer in return?

This is a new author to me, so I didn't know what to expect. The writing style is flowing, and the story reads easily. I liked that. It was told from single POV, had a fair amount of steam which was well written and a host of secondary characters that were in equal measure amusing and likable. WARNING: For those who do not like MMM, there is one MMM intimate scene right in the beginning, just one though. So be in the know.

The things that worked for me:

- Ky, one of the MCs. I liked his dedication to work, his easy rapport with multitude of friends, and how he cared for Nick. He had issues to overcome which, thank goodness, he decided to do with help. He was caring and had a bit of self-deprecating humor. He was very approachable character despite his occasional gruffness.

- Ky's family: His mother Rhiannon and stepfather Tim. They cracked me up all the time. I wish all the parents were so accepting and good-natured.

- There was something about the story that kept me reading it. The pace was steady, and while some might call it boring, this time I enjoyed reading it despite not much going on. The relationship between Nick and Ky was more long distance than not.

- The angst and emotional issues that both men had due to their past or family relations made them more approachable. I loved how they supported each other while trying to figure out what they felt.

Things that didn't work:

- At times it felt that I was in the middle of the crowd of people I should already know. There were so many characters that needed more background, so that I could enjoy the story more.

- It's my personal pet peeve when one of the MCs keeps having intimate encounters with other people off page after meeting the other MC. I understand that Nick is portrayed as playboy, but I wished for other way to do it. In fact, I don't know if I liked Nick all that much. I didn't get enough time with him to know him properly.

- Ky's work as detective had such miniscule mention. It really would have added to the story for me if there was suspense and a bit of danger for him. It was just so mellow in terms of police work. The case would have been great addition, had it seen more attention.

Overall this was a good book, well-written with minimum amount of mistakes. There was humor, angst and men getting nekkid, but the spark was missing for me to love it. Copy received for my honest and unbiased review

Ky and Nick
I really enjoyed this read. Both Ky and Nick are beautifully flawed, vulnerable and sweet personalities. The plot was good and there were several moments where it got heavy emotional and my heart broke for them. There are some good thought out misunderstandings between them. Both men had pasts which were intriguing and well done. If I should describe this story in one word it would be ‘good’.
When I zoom-in on details I would say there are a few loose ends, it did touch some subjects where I expected more from only halfway they weren’t mentioned anymore, some matters could have been more developed, but no deal-breakers ! The things we do meet are more than enough to make it a story worth reading.

First true read of the year the decade and already on my top 10 favorite. I want to wrap Ky and Nick up and have them forever. This, this is what true romance means. The good, the bad and the ugly. The uncertainty and the getting to know you.

Now to the realness. They say never judge a book by the cover. Ha...that piece of hotness was the reason I requested the book. The second was the back story. However, for some unknown reason I had to restart this book on more than one occasion!!! But, eventual I got to my last read and I was blown away. I am one to always trudge through no matter what and I am glad I did.

Looking forward to seeing what this new to me author plans for book two.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author through LesCourt.

3.5 very conflicted stars

I'm torn. I enjoyed the general flow of the writing, adored the epilogue, and was intrigued enough by the characters. What didn't work for me was the pacing, the non-alternating POV, the poor integration of Ky's job, the two different versions of Ky we got, and the length of time it took for Ky and Nick to actually get something going. Despite the "con" list being longer, the good things were enough to balance it out, but I'm not sure that it's enough to rave about the book either...hence being torn.

Ky is an intriguing character right off the bat. There's something about him that draws me in right away, especially his commitment to the job. The job is also something that piques my interest. Especially the case and how his insight and the details we get at the outset of the story set the tone for Ky's personality. After he kinda gets together with Nick there's something that switches inside of him and it feels like everything else that was captivating about him falls by the wayside. Not that he's no longer worth following as a character, just that there's a whole new insecure side of him that dominates the rest. I'm not exactly a fan of that, though I think there's something very human about him that becomes much more relatable. Still not a huge fan of the change, but I can't deny that this version of him is effective, I just wish there were something that connected the two versions.

Nick is different for me. Through Ky's eyes he's intriguing, but beyond that I'm just not drawn to him at all. He's not a bad character, just not interesting to me. I don't find myself caring about him beyond what he can do to progress, grow, and become a good and equal partner to Ky. Though I will say that his bit in the epilogue was superb. His sentiments are genuine, sincere, and heartfelt.

What annoys me most about the story is the lack of care put into getting Ky's investigation integrated into the story. So many vague throwaway mentions of no progress in the case that I was frustrated by the time we got to the solve, which really had nothing to do with Ky's gut feeling and everything to do with his bigoted coworker's technique and feelings surrounding the case. Everything that drew me to Ky in the very beginning was passed off to someone who was written as a dbag. And the thread with the mysterious call into his boss' office wasn't ever picked up either.

That being said, the pacing of the relationship was good, I feel. While I'm usually intolerant of other partners being involved in the MC's romantic lives, I think that it wasn't done poorly at all here. Being that Ky and Nick met through a mutual (at separate times) hookup...quite literally...it was clear that there was some kind of connection, but nothing concrete or even verbalized between either party. And then the encounters between that one and when they finally decided on something more were more of the ships passing in the night variety. I will say that having one date and then going back to being nothing is the one moment that I wasn't sure I could get past, but despite Ky becoming a bit of a desperate doormat, I was glad they were finally headed in an upward trajectory. The epilogue though...dang, that was a total gem and the sole reason I rounded up on the stars. It was a bit too big of a time jump, but the sentiments and feels were awesome.

During a hookup with Nick and another guy after meeting at a club, Ky realizes he has way more interest in just Nick. But he doubts Nick feels the same. After all, Nick is clearly in a completely different class than he, and Ky suffers from a lot of insecurities. But when he runs into Nick again and Nick makes it clear he's interested, will he and Ky be able to make a go of it? Nick with his aversion to commitment and relationships, and Ky with his insecurities?

I will say that I really liked Ky, he's the bright spot in this fairly slow moving story. Well, he and his stepfather and mom. Other than that, though, I couldn't really get into Home. It's not boring per se, but there really isn't a lot going on here aside from chemistry between the two leads. However, they're apart for more than half of the book, and even when they're together, they were so tentative and unsure about what to define their relationship as, that it made the story drag even further for me. So I'll leave it at 3 stars because I really liked Ky. And not more stars because everything else aside from Ky's parents was drab and uninteresting.

I felt a little lost in the beginning of this book.
I found it to be a bit weirdly paced.. Some things seemed to be skimmed over and others we got in great detail.
I thought we should have got more about Ky's job and the missing kids but that was almost randomly put in every few chapters.
I did end up enjoying the story of Ky and Nicholas.

I had mixed feelings about this book. Initially, I struggled to get into the story. When Ky and Nick first met sparks were flying but they fizzled out pretty quickly. For about 50% of the book, I was a little bored because there wasn’t really much going on. There was a lot of narration but nothing drew me to the characters. I was actually getting to the point, where I was going to give up but then things picked up in the second half.

Ky’s insecurities get the better of him on various occasions. However, I liked the fact that he was willing to give things a go with Nick despite, his past. Nick was hesitate about relationships and commitment but he eventually let down the walls around his heart.

Ky and Nick were beautiful together and their chemistry was great in the second half. I enjoyed their physical interactions and friendly banter. A large portion of their conversations were text messages and this is the part I didn’t particularly like. There was too much distance between them at times and I was left wanting more quality face to face interactions.

I adored Tim; he was funny and down to earth. His love for Ky and his mum was unconditional and it truly showed.

I’m glad I persevered because it was a good read.

3.5 🌟hesitantly rounded up

This could have been a much shorter book if half of the angst and filler material was removed. It's not a bad story, and the characters are fairly well developed. It just seemed to me that a very good story was stretched too thin.

Ky is a bada$$ cop, overly dedicated to his job; the only exception in his life seeming to be time for his family when he makes it. But his stepdad, Tim (he's great, BTW), gives him an ultimatum of sorts that it is time for him to do something fun, or he is going to set his mom loose with the blind dates (I think that was the deal).

So, Ky makes plans to meet up with a long-time friend, Antony, or Ant, at one of the bars he (helps?) runs. It is there that he finds himself propositioned by an occasional F'buddy and his extremely hot date. While not typically his thing, he reminds himself of Tim's advice to have fun, and finds himself agreeing to a very sexy evening.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, as Ky's case moves slowly, he finds himself drawn to Nick every time he sees him. It's obvious he's a playboy, but there is an undeniable attraction between the two. Eventually, they meet up, but Nick is sending some seriously mixed signals.

Meanwhile, as the drama builds in the relationship department, Ky is still working on the same case, but also working other indefinable cases constantly. Nick is also consistently busy with work. But, as they make time for each other, Ky makes the decision to share a part of himself he believes only one other knows. It could ruin everything, but he needs to get through it.

Personal loss causes the two men to be separated for a time, and the angst was almost overwhelming. It could have just been me, as I may have just not been in the right headspace for this book at the time I read it. But, they both revert to old habits before communication starts to rebuild their bond.

I'm the end, Ky's job works out well, and Nick and his partner, Eric, have made solid business decisions. And,of course, Ky and Nick get their happily ever after.

3.5..Initially I was not enamored of the book. It gets off to a slow and kind of confusing start. One of the MCs is a police officer and there is a case he is working one that appears to have no connection to the storyline. Every time the action switched to the case, and the homophobic cop he works with, my attention was diverted and that’s never a good thing for me when reading a book.

But as the story continued, I came to care about and be interested in the MCs so the other irritations became less significant. Ky is a police officer with a dark secret that impacts his ability to become involved in a relationship. Nick is a businessman whose family dysfunction has prevented him from ever having a relationship. Despite those defining characteristics they each see in themselves they do end up in a relationship that they want to make work. Each has insecurities and other obstacles that threaten the relationship and when the bedrock issues that shape their relationships views come in to play the author does a great job in navigating the landmines.

The evolving and deepening relationship is an interesting to read about and despite quite a few editing and proofreading issues my head was not completely removed from the story which is a good sign of the way it pulled me in.

So while there was a slow start that almost had me throwing in the towel I’m glad I stuck with it because the pay off in the end was a heartwarming story with themes of redemption and loving oneself.

**3.5**
This is a story that took me a little while to get into with it seeming to be a little all over the place with Ky dealing with a tough case at work involving missing children, his serious lack of a social life until bullied into going out by his stepfather and then interactions with his friends at a local club. When we're introduced to Nick, there's clearly attraction there on both sides but things take a rocky road until actual conversations and decisions are made by both men.
We read purely from Ky's POV and it's interesting with everything he deals with at work as well as all of the relationships that he has. I will admit I thought, from the blurb, that he was actually in the closet but that's not the case he has a much darker secret that is revealed when there is a strong bond between the MC's. I enjoyed how much Ky and Nick evolved as character's and in their relationship with each other, others and their work commitments. There are some great side characters, especially Nick's best friend who I can see having his own story in the future. Tim, Ky's stepfather, provides a great deal of support and friendship that he really needs throughout the book.
An enjoyable start to the new series. It was slow going but staying with it is worth it for a wonderful romance of a couple working to stay together through a childhood secret, family tragedy and work stresses.

This is a new to me author, but after a slow start I really got into the story and didn’t want to put it down. Ky stops off at a bar he occasionally frequents to check in with a close friend and while there sees a man he sometimes hooks up with dancing with another man he can’t take his eyes off of. Both men proposition Ky for a night of consensual debauchery, or in other words a MMM encounter. However, this is a first for Ky and, although enjoyable, one he is not eager to repeat. He is ultimately looking for a relationship despite not thinking he is worthy b/c of his past. Ky and Nick keep circling around each other and, despite both seemingly being “tops,” find things enough in common to try out a relationship. A relationship without strings. However, that doesn’t work so well once they both catch feelings for each other. Can Nick, a committed playboy, let his guard down around his heart enough to let Ky in? And can Ky find forgiveness within himself for his past and move forward with Nick? Their friends, as well as Ky’s mum and stepdad (who I loved BTW) definitely help the couple navigate the waters of their relationship. It is nice to see both men change and grow over the course of the story. Hopefully the author has more in store for the secondary characters from this book. If you enjoy contemporary MM definitely give this a try.

The beginning was somewhat iffy, but once I was past that hurdle I truly enjoyed the book. It’s instant love trope, but I liked the way it’s handled. Yes, Ky and Nick are mesmerized with each other from the first time they met, but it only gets them so far. They have to work to maintain relationship, and since both of them have some serious baggage in the past, it causes problems and complications for them.

There are angsty moments, but it’s done beautifully as they manage to move past it. It has a sigh worthy love conquers all ending. The supporting characters provide a bit of fun to ease seriousness of their relationship. They are all the way in, deciding to follow their hearts and stay with each other.

Everything is in Ky’s POV, which in this case adds a bit of tension, because we see only one view of their relationship: Ky doubts himself and Nick, makes mistakes and then tries to fix the matter, unsure of his welcome. It makes the story more real.

It’s nicely done love story, and kept my attention until the very (heart melting) end.

Warnings: there are references to child abuse.

Finding your heart and discover your home.  Complex characters, creative dialogue, engaging story-line and great writing all work together to create a really good story.  There were also some really wonderful secondary characters that were well crafted and hopefully will have a future story.  I so loved Ky's family and his step-dad is fantastic. Wish more families had a man like him in their corner.

Ky and Nicholas start the story with a steamy m/m/m scene and as they journey through the story they find what the truly want.  I have no problems with MC's finding other partners before they really find each other.  In this story, it really worked and it really was who the characters were.  There is no cheating after they form a real connection and i loved how they slowly found their way to each other.

These are men who have lived and carry scars on their hearts, life is not easy and they work together to find a way to love and build a future.  I really enjoyed the story and would have loved more of what they both do as part of their work.

This is book one of the Six Degrees series and i am so looking forward to more.

Home: Ky and Nick by Sandy Smith is the first book in the Six Degrees series. I liked this read. I smiled a lot as I read Nick and Ky’s story. I also felt the pain and sorrows of the characters.
Nick is a businessman he is very smart.
Ky cop and good at his job. Makes getting into relationships hard for him.
They have issues to work throughout the book. Both personal and external factors. Their past is murky and often rears its ugly head. But once they learn to trust each other everything comes through.
This is a pretty intense read. One I had to really sit down and read through. But I love stories I can sink into and immerse myself in and this one is that. I highly recommend this one to anyone who likes a read they can read over a few days and really feel what the characters are feeling in it. I will be looking for more books in this series in the future. I would love to see where it goes and what happens next.

I liked Ky and Nick, particularly the way their reasons to stay single flew out the window once they knew each other better. Their relationship has an interesting buildup, from insta-lust and burning passion to slowly taking down walls and allowing themselves to show weaknesses and fears. I definitely liked the way they clung to what they had together, each at time the strongest, the one to show the other the beauty of their love. Because they belong wonderfully, they've found 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 with each other.

Admittedly, to me the book would have been perfect with only their romance in it. Because while Sandy Smith has given a great importance to details,I think that some of them were unnecessary. At different points it felt like the author started a thread to then just leave it hanging. I don't know, maybe it's something that will be worked out next in the series. I hope so and I'll surely check it out.

Interesting read,recommended

A first read for this author with this book.
Told with Ky's POV, with first person which is really not my thing ta read I couldn't connect to the couple properly.
This start confused me or I may have missed something regarding Alex's mystery emails with no story before hand at the start. Scenes where cut off abruptly rather than seeing them to the finish. At the start both Ky and Nick are both tops and where attracted to each other..
Includes MMM double penetration sex scene. Drama and baggage and miss communications between them. An okayish book to read.
Ky's first visit to the Platform club to meet a friend before heading back to work his job as a cop.
The disappearance of Bailey and Aimee brother and sister over month ago was an on going case..

This is a great start to a new series and I really enjoyed it. The characters are amazing and I love how the relationship develops between Ky and Nick even though they both struggle during the beginning. Neither of them is ready for a serious relationship but they also are so drawn to each other that they can't seem to stay away. They are complete opposites but they have an instant connection and smoking hot chemistry. Ky is such a good guy and I wish that the story focused a bit more on his job as well as having more interaction between him and Nick. My favorite part of this story is how supportive and accepting Ky's mum and stepfather are. The other secondary characters are great as well and I love the ending. I can't wait to read the next book in this new and exciting series.

I read it, so I like it enough to finish, but something was lacking for me.

Part of it might be the present tense writing, but I can't be sure.

Home is a mix of romance and mystery.
Ky's a complex character. His past his horrific. Nick's only in Sydney for a short time, but falling for Ky finds him ready to settle in one place.

This is the story of two men finding their place with one another; of two men finding themselves complete when with the other. It's a story of trying to get over one's past.
Their story is full of secrets and complications, fear and shame.

I didn't love the beginning at all, finding myself unable to connect to the men, but later, it really grew on me. There are definitely some sweet moments between these two men who weren't looking for love. But for me, it just didn't all work.

Wow!!!

Since Sandy Smith is a new to me author I wasn't sure what to expect. Being a very avid reader I have come across many new to me authors and even with an interesting blurb you never can be sure what you will get. I was very pleasantly surprised by this. So much good stuff to love here. A delightful mix of characters and a beautiful romance for sure but there is a bit of mystery in both the case Ky is working on and with Nick too. We learn more about both as we go through the story. I think that being told in Ky's point of view is what makes it work so well. And there is some things we learn about him as well as other characters. I find myself wanting Eric and Ant's stories and a few others too. I am going to be keeping a close eye on this author to see what's next.

3.5 stars for a decent debut

This was sort of mixed bag for me. It was a nice story, with just a little angst over Ky’s history. The romance proceeds well, after an odd choice to introduce them with a three-way hook up. A lot of heavily detailed scenes made the narrative a little slow moving. The police investigation added some interest but didn’t take up much page time overall.

Ky’s characterization felt inconsistent between how he’s presented at the start of the story and how he’s written during his relationship with Kyle. Nick seemed like the older character and Ky younger and not the 31 years he was supposed to be. I didn’t connect with them as a couple very well. Not too sure of the first person narration, not my fave. The word “baby” is used 45 times. A bunch of secondary figures will be in future volumes I guess.

I will admit that I quite enjoyed reading this very interesting MM romance. The plot is well-written & entertaining although it is rather emotional at times. The perfectly flawed main characters have good chemistry & complement each other. The secondary characters offer good support.
There is: a overworked male law enforcement officer (Ky) with secrets comes into contact with a male millionaire playboy (Nickolas) with a commitment phobia & the attractions flare between them, drama, suspense, memories, secrets, some danger, family issues, ultimatums, investigations, attractions, verbal banter, confrontations, misunderstandings, accusations, emotional turmoil, apologies, advice, confusion, surprises, contentment, love, happiness, steamy scenes, & a well-deserved satisfying conclusion.

I love it when the player, the confirmed bachelor, falls. I love it even more when he has to work for it. In Home: Ky & Nick, Nick, the self-made millionaire who avoids attachments, grows attached to Ky, a cop with secrets who has a hard time committing, too. Fair warning, they meet in a club and have a threesome with another man. But that's a brief scene and doesn't dominate the book.

I enjoyed watching these characters grow and their relationship develop. There's a fair amount of push and pull between the main characters, which is my catnip.

An excellent first novel. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Stick with it.

OK, so I'm writing this review within 10min of finishing the book. I may come back to this review at a later date, but here's my initial feedback. Stick with it. My initial thoughts are that this book is overly concerned with world building. I get it. It's book one. There's too many people doing too many things with too many loose threads regarding their backgrounds. If I just concentrate on ky and nick, it's a good story. The leads are nice enough but there's almost too much angst to make me actually feel for them. I'm glad we got the epilogue but I wouldn't have been devastated if we had just had a HFN ending. So yeah, stick with it.

This new to me author is one i will be keeping an eye open for, as this is a well thought out, well written yet steamy story be aware there is a threesome scene at the beginning, it is short and is only the once.

My only criticism is that the story is all told from Ky’s POV and I would have liked to know what Nick was feeling and thinking. Both the main characters and all secondary characters were fun to read, I especially liked Ky’s mum and stepdad and the cushions!!

This book has a steady pace and gets quite heavy emotionally at points but also has enough lighter moments to lift the book. Well worth reading.

This is the first book I’d ever read from this author and the story was a nice surprise. The characters are well written so you can feel Ky’s distress and self-doubts and Nick’s wide range of emotions. It is great to witness how they got together because the interactions and dialogues and Eric’s interventions are simply brilliant. Add to the mix some angst situations, romance, hot scenes and an amazing final and you’d get a wonderful reading!
I received this book as as ARC and this is my honest opinion.

This was a new to me author and I really enjoyed this book. This was very minimal angst and just a good old fashioned romance novel with two amazing men. The reader gets to watch the pair meet, date and fall in love. This is the perfect read on a cold winter night as it will warm your heart.
Trigger warning: mention of sexual assault of a child.
Also has one brief element of ménage in the beginning if that puts you off.
