I loved it! It's fast-paced, and the way it wrapped up was surprise after surprise. I liked both Sabrina and Clay, but also loved the glimpses of Clay's family, Sabrina's grandmother, and the foster kids she is working to help.

This is one of my favorites of Eason's books so far.

Well okay, FINALLY one of these I actually thought was really good! After being burned by several Love Inspired Suspense books, it was nice to find one I actually thought was decent.

After reading book three, I really wanted to know more about Clay's character and story. I quickly loved Clay and Sabrina. They were both very well-rounded characters, and I loved their sweet relationship. The mystery kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book, and there was the perfect amount of action. Yikes! Talk about intense. The little snippets we got of other characters like Lance and Seth (but mostly Lance) made very interested to read more of the series. I had glimmerings of who the villain was, but I was still very surprised when it was revealed.

Overall, I really enjoyed this!

Recommended for ages 15+ for mild romance and violence\action.

I've always been impressed with this author's writing, and this Love Inspired Suspense was just the right level of thrill for me. Clay and Sabrina begin working together when the teen she is searching for leads her to evidence in the murder of Clay's brother who was Sabrina's good friend. Sabrina's focus on the children in her stewardship keeps her investigating even when her own life is in danger. There are plenty of hair-raising situations along with quieter moments where Clay and Sabrina grow closer as they develop trust and realize their growing attraction. I loved getting to know the family members of both as well as community members they interacted with. I was drawn right into the story and was kept riveted all the way through to the end.

This book was a good quick read! A satisfying story with plenty of action to keep me interested. Lots going on. 0_0 The romance was a little underdeveloped, but it was still good. I enjoyed the story and Sabrina was a lot like me, so that was really enjoyable. :D Probably my favorite Wrangler's corner that I have read.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense, you will enjoy The Lawman Returns by Lynette Eason. Filled with twists, surprises, mystery, and broken family ties that need mending, it's sure to keep you flipping pages until you discover whodunit.

As always, Lynette drops you right into the action, eases up the fast pace just long enough for you to catch your breath, and then takes you by surprise all over again. She's really a master craftswoman, and if I ever attempt to write romantic suspense, it's her books I'll be studying to learn the art of pacing in the genre.

Though Jordan wasn't in the book much, he was my favorite character. He'd made mistakes in his life, but he was trying to improve his ways. The thing that drew me to him the most was his motivation. He wanted to protect his little brother and sister. There's something about that sibling love that gets me every time.

I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the Wrangler's Corner series very shortly.

This is my honest, unpaid review.

Page-turning suspense at its very best. My heart rate accelerated the second I started reading. Eason knows how to lure a reader in and keep her hooked until the very last page. A complex plot kept me on my toes. Loved the balance between mystery and suspense. I was trying to figure out clues right along with Sabrina and Clay -- while anxiously looking over my shoulder in mounting fear. Spine tingling good.

My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a review copy of this book.

Again, not disappointed by Lynette Eason.

Through Clay and Sabrina’s story, readers are taken through a rollercoaster of action, suspense and relational issues which keeps one on the edge of the seat right till the end.

Even with the length of the chapters, which decreased in length and increased with suspense at the end, the author’s stories are thought out well.

Even the revelation of the murder, the why, and the boss kept me guessing right till the end. And the heroes got hurt!

Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Sabrina Mayfield is the local social worker in the small town of Wrangler's Corner, Tennessee. She has some regular kids that she keeps track of and since it is a small town, everyone knows everyone and everyone's business. Including Sabrina's history. Her mother was once engaged to Abe Starke, but broke off the engagement, left and returned to Wrangler's Corner with a baby. People don't like Sabrina's mother much, and they associate her mother's behavior with hers.
"...but with my mother's past and the way people still look at me sometimes - as though just waiting for me to prove I'm like her..."

Clay Starke moved from Nashville and has come back home to work in his home town. His brother, Steven, was recently murdered. Clay would like to solve the case but also to be closer to his family, siblings and parents.

"Jordon Zellis, is one of her kids who'd been in the system but was trying to make something of himself..." Jordon calls Sabrina and she goes in search of him because she is concerned that he is in trouble. She doesn't find Jordon, but she is almost shot and meets the new officer in town.

The mystery takes off pretty fast. Sabrina and Clay join forces to solve the murder and to find the missing teens. Other secrets come out during the investigation and a bit of romance strikes the characters. No insta love, the author takes a fair amount of time to build a relationship before adding in more.

There were times when I would struggled to figure out what the characters were doing. There were not many added details so it was hard to picture where the characters were. Sitting, standing, etc. The book just lacks those smaller details to visualize the characters.

There are christian tones to the book. Characters talk about God and His care over them.

The book has a lot of characters. The ending or climax has them all together and it became confusing to me. There were some redundant sections where the author adds in how the characters are feeling that could have been edited out.

Overall, this book may make a good book club choice. There are discussion questions in the back that would make for some lengthy conversation. The author makes a good point of letting go of a perfectionist attitude. Love yourself. Although I didn't find the book perfect, the theme and mystery were pretty good. I think it is a decent read. I would recommend this book to those who like clean, mystery packed romance.

This book was just amazing, I loved it so much. Clay was a good man who knew what he wanted and wanted to do the right thing too. He was in awe of Sabrina since the moment he met her. Sabrina was one brave woman, she would do anything for the people she loved, Clay too. I loved their love, the things that man said, they were small but so good, I was giggling the whole time. They fought to be together, literally and figuretively. God, I loved them, they were so damn adorable I couldn't stand it

Maybe it's just me, but it drives me nuts when authors pick up their cookie cutter and cut out a book. It seems to be rare for books within the genre of Christian Romance to have an original non fanciful storyline. Yes I know these books are "fiction", but when 80% (perceived percentage not based on factual information) of Christian Fiction books are under the genre of Christian Romance it would be nice if storylines didn't take place in fantasy land. Why? Because it begins to mess with ones reality. Like ones reality of what a good man looks like. Men are flawed just like women. They don't usually stay calm when a woman freaks out. They don't all have an immediate heroic knight in shining armor response to life's trials and tragedies. They don't proclaim their unyielding love 2 weeks after meeting you. They all aren't financially stable and able to supply you with horses. Men are flawed, but it doesn't mean that they are bad men. It just means they are men.

What just happened? I feel like I read a book that was written strictly for the payola…you know, slap it together, get ‘er done, outta here. What a mess.

I guess I’ll just have to assume that authors don’t read reviews, since there are so few who turn out a product that actually respects the reader’s time, intelligence, and money in this genre. I’m glad that Goodreads asks us what we think; otherwise, I might feel that I have to leave a positive review even when it is not warranted.

I will still try to be respectful with my review while coming off of a read that was anything but.

First off, instant attraction, that’s how it starts. No work put into that one. Next, suspicious characters that remain undeveloped, one (if not more) totally unbelievable. The uncle should be detailed as having mental problems, since he is still acting like an idiot decades after a woman left him at the altar, and she left him because of his explosive temperament and was afraid of him. Decades later, this man is now mistreating her daughter with rude and hostile behavior. Juvenile attitude.

Everything in this book is disjointed and lacks continuity. People are walking around getting smacked, slapped, shot, accosted, and chased. It really never ends. After a while you just say, Ho hum. What’s new.

The ending was ridiculous. Truly. I hardly even knew these characters; they were so underdeveloped.

This is slapstick inspirational fiction that did not inspire but frustrate me. If there had been anymore injuries, the author may as well have strung them all up to be used as piñatas, same thing.

There is so much that could have been good about this book if the author had maybe had a little more patience and taken more time to consider the reader's perspective and experience.

I am not motivated to read another of Lynette Eason's works.

Lynette Eason has written some very good books.
This is NOWHERE NEAR one of them.

It starts out with a phone call from a kid in 'the system' to his social worker, Sabrina. He's scared, he's in trouble, he gives her the address, he says he found evidence as to who killed her best friend/book buddy/deputy of the town. Then in the VERY NEXT BREATH he says, nevermind! Don't come help me! I'm fine!

WHAT IS THAT??!?!?!

Next scene, she's at a rickety single-wide trailer, smells ammonia, sees a hose run in thru the window, tries the (locked) door, and hears a child crying inside... and gets shot at. ((!!!)) Immediately a cop shows up, has her get in his car, and they start reminiscing about his brother/her friend.

Then they get out, see a child peek out at them and then slam and lock the door. They bust in, and the little kid tells them he thought they were the 'bad guys', but he wasn't afraid. ?!?!?!??!

It's NOT where the kids live, there's no way they got there (except on foot), their brother (who made the call) 'lured the bad guy away'... except he didn't because the bad guy was shooting at Sabrina, hello.

WHAT. THE. FARTS?!?!?
This thing is so horrifically written, disjointed, and nonsensical I can't even.

Then ANOTHER gun-totin' hillbilly shows up and aims a the cop, because... that's always the smart thing to do when you're cookin' meth in your trailer, have two children settled on the couch who may/may not have been kidnapped by him, and there's a shooter on the premises?!

I... can't even. DNF before chapter two.
I don't have time for this absolute garbage.

WRITE an actual story, for the love of all that's holy.
I know you can. I've seen it, before.

The Lawman Returns by Lynette Eason is a 2014 Love Inspired Suspense publication.

Deputy Clay Starke returns home after his brother’s death, determined to find his murderer. But because of the conflict of interest, he can’t investigate officially. But then he meets Sabrina, a social worker, who may have information about his brother’s murder. As the spend more time together they become aware of a growing attraction between them, but Sabrina’s knowledge about the crime may have made her a target…

I stumbled across this one while browsing through the KU offerings. Lynette Eason has been on my radar for a long time, and so I checked this book out on impulse.

While I admit, I really, really want to like this line of romantic suspense novels, I haven’t had very good luck with it, struggling with some quality issues. This book, though, is quite good considering its brevity. The writing is solid, and the story is fleshed out nicely.

There is a realistic crime drama, with some suspenseful moments, and of course there is a romantic element which is handled perfectly. It does not interfere with the investigation, although feelings develop a bit too fast, still one must remember the time constraints with less than three hundred pages to work with. Besides, these are mature adults, and the relationship is one I could believe in.

The story is labeled as Christian fiction- so there is a gentle message, and the story is ‘clean’, which is always refreshing.

Overall, I’d say this was a nice, quick introduction to this author’s work and I liked what I saw- so maybe now I'll try to read some of her titles published through Revell.

I made it more than half way through this book before i decided not to go further. It had promise but I found that it was 'off' for me. First, every chapter someone's life is threatened or someone is hurt. IT happened so frequently that I started to roll my eyes when I knew someone was about to 'almost' be hurt.

This book is not heavy on the details and unfortunately that means that there are many times in which it is a bit confusing about what is happening.

It also didn't make sense why the main female character was treated so harshly because of what her mother did, it just didn't sit right overall.

Overall, after getting half way through and having the main characters life threatened once again because it was a new chapter I just couldn't continue.

"The Lawman Returns" is a Christian romantic suspense. Deputy Clay came home to solve his brother's murder. Social worker Sabrina asked Clay's brother to investigate something and may have sent him to his death. When she responds to the call of a troubled boy who's been in foster care, she finds a meth lab, a clue to the murder, and someone shooting at her. Clay saved her, and they worked together to solve a crime while trying to stay alive.

The main characters were likable, and Clay and Sabrina worked well together. The suspense came from the repeated attacks and from Clay's uncle objecting to Sabrina due to how her mother left him at the altar. There was some prayer to God for help. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.

Clean romances are the bomb. But this is the second book I've read by this author and I'm not sure I like a small aspect about her writing style, I have started both books and within a few minutes I stop the books and go check to see if these are book 2's of a series. She has a tendency to start in the middle of the story and then work on getting you up to speed...but she doesn't more abruptly than others. I'll probably read more of her books...or not. I'm not hooked. But I know that my delicate senses won't be offended if I keep reading these. She writes clean Christian romances, but she doesn't go heavy on the preaching (Thank Goodness!).

A lot of intrigue, suspense, and treachery make up this story. Clay Starke returns to the small town of Wrangler's Corner to solve the mystery of his brother's murder. He steps into a mess of intrigue along with the pretty social worker who also wants to find out what happened to Steven Starke. Sabrina is a strong woman who feels the need to live down the legacy of her mother, and works hard to help the people under her care. These two are dented and dinged, set on and shot, but eventually Clay figures out the truth.

Started another good series. Social worker Sabrina Mayfield is out to save all the children she can in Wrangler's Corner, Tennessee. When one of them calls her asking for help, she immediately gets in her car to and help. Calling for the sheriff's help she comes face to face with Deputy Clay Starke, who had just returned home to find his brother Steve's killer. He finds that Sabrina is a target, and she doesn't know why. They will work together to help the children and find Steve's killer but at what cost? Find out when you read the book.

A good first book in this Love Inspired series. I needed something quick to listen to and found this on Hoopla. I enjoy Lynette Eason’s books but haven’t read any of her Love Inspired books in awhile. Clay moves home and takes his brother Stephen’s place on the police force after his brother is killed. Sabrina, a social worker, gets entangled in the plot that killed Stephen and left his killer at large when she receives a call from one of the kids in her care. Can Clay keep Sabrina safe while also trying to find his brother’s murderer?

A deputy sheriff falls for an old classmate who was friends with his brother.

Enjoyed being back with this author. Clay and Sabrina story was exciting from start to finish. With Sabrina being a social worker it brought her into something unexpected. She and Clay and his family had to protect two kids. Clay also became Sabrina protector. They came on a drug situation that ended up involving the sheriff and the wife of one of the deputies. So happy for Clay and Sabrina. Don't know what happened with the kids though. So glad that Clay uncle came around too.

A pretty solid romantic suspense. The romance wasn't too heavy handed or insta-love, which I appreciated. But the kissing scenes were VERY tame. I don't want an explicit or sensual make out scene but when kissing is only described as a "peck" "soft" or "quick" it loses all elements of chemistry. I think the author did a good job of hiding who the true villains were; at least one of them I didn't guess.

Great story. Harlequin Intrigue and Suspense stories are really growing on me. This one was really captivating. The main characters Sabrina and Clay are a great couple and there story was one that kept me engaged and interested from page one to the very end. I'm really looking forward to hearing more and the characters of Wrangler's Corner.

I enjoy Lynette Eason novels as well as her many characters. Though this is the first in the Wrangler’s Corner series I did not read them in order, but that does not seem to matter. I really liked the book and totally recommend this novel and her other novels. I do like the fact that it is faith based. There is action, mystery and romance...what is not to like.

3.5/5 Okay honstly I did not even guess that the criminals were going to be who they turned out to be. I was trying to figure it out but I thought I had it figured out but I wasn't even close. I thought that it was such a depressing way to get what they wanted. It was an interesting plot, but Clay and Sabrina were strong throughout the entire book!😍

Not her best

The writing was stilted. It did, however, hold the element of suspense. It did seem like parts of the plot were missing, such as when Sabrina returned Clays phone, who shot Lance, and who followed Sabrina ( was it Trey?) Who stole Trey's father's truck? Am I to assume that Krissy shot at Sabrina? Etc.

The story had an odd way of sneaking up on me.
The romance progressed without the overblown sparks and butterflies that are the norm these days.
And the mystery just seemed absolutely determined to get them whether they knew it was there or not.
The last chapter felt a wee bit rushed, but it was a happy ending so there's that at least.

Lynette Eason writes clean, Christian mysteries and I enjoy reading them. Sometimes I feel the drama is a bit overdone--how many times can a guy survive getting hit over the head?!? Yet, I will continue to read her books. I liked the main characters in this one.
