I did really enjoy this study, the reason this didn’t get 5 stars was the homework was quite extensive. I guess it’s lighter than her other studies, I can’t agree or disagree since this was my first Beth Moore study. I loved the lessons and the tough questions, but it was hard to get through all the questions each week. If you do this with a busy group, maybe split it up into 12 sessions. Watch a video and the. Give yourself a couple of weeks to break out the homework before the next video. Then everyone can still answer all the questions and you can discuss your answers each week.
Although it felt like this took me forever to finish (almost a month), it was more for lack of time because when I picked it up, I was continually absorbed. Beth Moore is a wonderful writer and wordsmith, weaving her teaching with personal and biblical anecdotes about grapevines. One of the most moving parts to me was her chapter on soil. She talked about how death and worm poop is vital to fertile soil, and how that is true of our spiritual lives, too. How the hard times of trial and testing, the deaths in our lives (of loved ones, of dreams, careers, marriages, etc) helps create fertile soil in the spiritual sense. I feel that. Our married life has not been easy (the marriage has been but there have been so many ups and downs together) and maybe it's helped create fertile soil. There were also some deep evaluating questions: - is my heart growing warmer or colder toward people? - am I constantly in a bad mood? - am I increasingly exhausted? A few more and anyway, it was a good evaluator for me. This also comes as a Bible study and my church is hosting that this fall, so I'm pleased with that. But I definitely recommend this book.
Beth Moore is always insightful, deep and humorous. This lady can write. She can also tell a story. She does deep research into what she writes about. She goes deep into viticulture and soil and relates that to the Bible analogy when Jesus says, "I am the vine, and you are the branches." I loved listening to her "read" the book to me on Audible and loved the Bible study and video that went along with it. I admire her deep convictions and her relationship with Jesus. She does her homework and then shares her findings with the rest of us in an approachable way.
Just ok. I didn't even finish it. Not the same caliber of her older studies. (not really the Kindle edition, it's the paperback group study guide, but I don't feel like figuring out how to change the edition right now)
Soooo many good little nuggets in this. Such a great theme. The videos were shorter and not as impactful as I was expecting. And I feel like I would’ve liked to do this with a group so I could discuss and process through some of the more meaningful parts. But so good overall!
My Bible study group read this book together and we all loved it. Beth is an amazing woman’s leader who helped us get closer to understanding God. We have a new love for the vine dresser and fruit of the vine.
I sit near a newly built trellis and two baby grape vines- inspired by the words and work of this woman! I am in a debt of gratitude for the challenge to pay attention to my soul, my pruning, and the quality of my fruit bearing.
This was a great study to do. I like how well the workbook complements the book but I think you may be able to get through the workbook without needing the book. This gave so much to talk about with my group as well..., we were never lacking for topic or questions.
