Trapped on a dying planet

General Cherry Lindstrom made a decision that killed millions of a friendly alien species and threatens the future of humanity.

A deadly poison is creeping across the surface of her planet, but the allies of humanity won’t reach Concordia in time to mount a rescue.

While the scientists battle to find a way to neutralize the lethal toxin, Cherry is chasing down another threat: an enigmatic visitor who arrived just prior to the chemical attack.

Her guts tell her the new arrival is up to no good, but others think she’s wrong. For Cherry, finding and eliminating her target may be her only path to redemption for her fateful decision.

All hope appears lost for the Concordia Colony, but the final onslaught is yet to come.

Final Onslaught is book three in the second part of the space colonization epic adventure, Space Colony One.

J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.

Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Final Onslaught is a gripping continuation of J.J. Green's the Space Colony One series. This series delves into human insecurities, self-interest, and above all the strength and resilience of the human species. The series began with humans from a colony ship landing on a new world, previously identified as a good bet for settlement. They have fought battles between colonist factions, fought off an invasion from space and survived.

The enemy wants their Origin planet back. The demand was total surrender with all humans becoming slaves - or total destruction. As the humans refused, a bioside was released that appears to be devouring all organic matter. Almost all the Filia in the ocean die almost immediately. The devastation on land moves slowly, but it's only a matter of time. Cherry and Kes are doing their best to try to find a way save everyone. But this just might be the end of humanity.

There is a great blend of action and insight into human behavior in this 5-star series.

Second book of Space opera about humans on alien world dealing with hostiles -4 stars

Having jumped into this book without realizing that I missed the introductory book one, I stumbled a few times. There was plenty of action and plenty of hints to keep going at a breakneck pace.

Cherry is a one armed Admiral who is great at her military game but not so good dealing with people.

Kes is a spectacularly good scientist trying to develop an antidote for a poison dropped on their colony by the Synthians.

Wilder is a 17-year old wiz who has developed an amazing technology.

Quinn is a Fila (alien) who can communicate with Wilder and communicate with Fila brethren.

The major characters must figure out how to survive and defeat the technologically advanced Synthians before the humans and Fila are wiped out by the poison.

Quick and sympathetic to humans, the book is a fun read. Author deals with death extremely well.

Wow, what a great book, and a wonderful conclusion to this trilogy – which, as the subtitle shows, was preceded by 3 other books dealing with the founding of this Earth-like planet by generation colonists (a space ship which took generations to reach it).
JJ Green's books (her other series as well) are high in my estimation because of the great mix of human nature (what the colonists think, do, and worry and fight about) and the factors involved in space colonization and life, such as involvement of aliens (some work with them, others are trying to drive them away). There is some space technology and battles, just enough to support the story.
In this book a number of plot lines come together and get resolved, there are some surprises, and yes, the promise of a continuation of the story – which I, for one, can't wait for!

Racing to save the planet from a killer chemical/biological agent, will this be the end of the colony?

This is the third book in the series. While the story itself is fairly self contained, a lot of the backstory is missing. I would recommend starting with the first book in the series.

This is a space opera series about colonizing a new planet and the trials thereof, not the least of which is hostile aliens. The story is very well written with a detailed plot with lots of interesting twists and turns. The characters are also well developed with their own quirks, both good and bad. All of the books have been intense and engaging, but now things have come to a head which means the tension is even higher. Add to that the surprises and twists along the way and I just couldn't put it down. Overall, a very enjoyable and satisfactory conclusion to the series.

Highly recommended.

This volume brings this phase of the Concordia struggle to a largely satisfying end. There are a number of clever misleading twists along the way - and best of all the series is not yet completed so we have more to anticipate.

While it might seem that the colony is constantly facing overwhelming odds the four 'out of time' members all have an important rôle in coming to grips with the seemingly fatal end of the previous book. I was intrigued by the idea that the initial colonists (both Woken and Gens) were effectively immunised to viruses - and of course there has been mention that no animals had been taken along with the human colonists (and reasons for that have been explained).

As usual - those who have read the previous books need no urging to pick up this one; new readers should really go back and start from the beginning!

“Final Onslaught” is the exciting next episode for lovers of the “Space Colony One” series.
We are introduced to the horrors of life in the colony after the devastating attack by the Scythians, who seem intent on destroying all life on the planet. Can our plucky adventurers save the day?
As always with J.J. Green’s books, this is a triumph of character development allowing the reader to truly get inside the minds of the colonists. Despite the psychology, “Final Onslaught” is a real page-turner. So much is thrown at the colony and it’s exciting to read about how they overcome their difficulties.
I really enjoyed “Final Onslaught’, just as I have enjoyed every book in the series. I really recommend you pick this one up if you’ve read the previous books. If you haven’t, don’t hesitate to start at the beginning with “The Concordia Deception”.

J.J. Green is a pro at writing space operas. I thoroughly enjoyed her original Space Colony One series and am now getting totally engrossed in its sequel series, Space Colony One, Part Two. This is addictive stuff as evidenced by my non-stop binge read of this new series three books, Interstellar Mission, Humanity's Fight and Final Onslaught. This is both an epic space colonization adventure (the colony here, Concordia, is the last gasp for humanity) and an intense look at what drives people. It’s cast, especially star Cherry Lindstrom, are all complex and well designed, and it’s nemesis, the alien Scythians, scarily well done. Strong plots and story arc all blend into one thrilling and fun read. I’m happy to strongly recommend these books.

The Fila are dead and rotting. Half of Oceanside is gone.

Cherry feels the burden of guilt a heavy load to bear.

What can be done to stop the progress of the biocide and save Concordia?

Kes and the team of scientists work hard to find a way to protect the humans from the biocide.

There is joy, uncertainty, love and loss, death and new life, conflict and self sacrifice all rolled out in one book.

If, like me, you get emotionally attached to the characters in a book don’t read it without having a box of tissues to hand.

This book is a roller-coaster of emotions.

Bring on “Restitution”.

I found this to be my favourite book of the Space Colony One second trilogy. It was exciting, suspenseful and terribly tragic. The death of an entire planet is not something one could ever imagine having to bear witness to, and for me this gave some insight and understanding to characters such as Wilder’s and Cherry’s state of mind, at times at least. There was a well-rounded nature to much of the book, although the ending seemed a bit pleasant for me in the face of a global extinction event.

The Scythians have returned for "their" planet. When their threats are not responded to with surrender, they poison the planet with a biocide. Cherry feels guilty because her response to the threat brought this down on them. Wilder is trapped in orbit with Quinn. Kes is working hard to find a way to stop the entire destruction of all life on the planet. Things can't get any worse. Or can they? Wonderful space opera and insight into human thinking.

A thrilling conclusion to the second trilogy in the Space Colony One series. Several moments in this story hit me hard emotionally. All the ingredients that make a sci-fi story delicious to me are here. The story effectively wraps up a major element of conflict of the story, while setting up the next logical step. This effectively shifts our characters out of reaction mode to action mode, which is important leading into the final trilogy.
As always I'm excited to continue the journey this series is taking me on.

This series has giving me headaches galore. I get them from the tension. This series has been so intense. So full of information. All kinds of things going on. When it is all said and done I have enjoyed this series very much. I can't wait to see the next series and who and how it goes. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

This was brilliant.
A totally fabulous, well-written, fast paced space adventure that was really enjoyable. I could keep reading more books in this series for a long time to come.
The characters are interesting and plausible. The apparent last remnant of humanity fights to continue to survive against the odds.

Could a virus wipe out humanities new world

Having taken over the home planet of the Scythians can humanity survive the perils of the planet. Did the Scythians leave without booby trapping their former cities? Can Cherry climb ropes with only one hand?
Ok I thought it was going to be one of those horror type books but not so much. It’s a good read not too taxing on the brain.

Apparently, JJGreen confuses velocity with acceleration when it comes to make ships move through space. She also forgot about the main premisse of time dilation she used on previous volumes. This time, although Wilder is travelling at the speed of light, time runs at the same speed on the surface of Concordia.

A good conclusion to this tale

As ever throughout this series, there is plenty of action and the protagonists endure lots of stress. The tale come to a logical conclusion with a few twists to spice things up. I enjoyed it.

JJ Green weaves a good story to finish off part two of the series. I would have liked to see more character reaction beyond the action of the story. Four of five on Goodreads.
