In the interests of full disclosure I was a Kickstarter backer for this project. That said I will likely continue to fund the ongoing story of Mercy st. Clair, as I am interested in seeing how her role in a pending interstellar civil war plays out.

Just because Mercy wants to settle down with her lover Molly, doesn't mean it is going to be a life of bounty hunting and Molly's performances as a musician. Mercy's mother apparently has tie to the Rigel organization which seeks to loosen the tight hold the council retains on the populated human worlds.

There are certain consistencies with Randall's story telling. Mercy's reluctance to get involved, at times where it appears not to be her immediate business, Molly's unshakeable faith in Mercy and optimistic view of life, and this doesn't make for a bad series. What it does make is for some occasionally predicable story telling.

Continues the story started in Chapeltown with some characters from before making an appearance. There’s a very direct path in this story and these new ones. A very cool action sequence and we get to see why the rebels are fighting against the council. Overall, great presentation, but kind of a middle of the line story. You definitely need to read the previous stories first. It’s starting to feel like a regular comic, and I would feel bad for anyone that jumped right in to this once first.

Battlefields takes Mercy St. Clair into the thick of the growing unrest in the galaxy. Her personal quest for answers is derailed by fighting and she must use all of her Trekker skills to survive. Ron Randall continues to deliver excellent comic book storytelling on all levels!

Great art style. The landscape and technology of this retro future looks unique. Great action and the characters tell as much through body language along with though and speech bubbles.

While this is the latest installment in Ron Randall's series about Mercy St Clair, bounty hunter of the future, he makes it an effective jumping-on point for new readers. In this volume, Mercy is following up clues to her mother's past with the mysterious resistance group, Rigel. On the way, she gets caught up in battles between other resistance groups and the oppressive Council. She may be moving closer to the truth, but what will it cost her?

Creator Ron Randall just keeps getting better and better. While his stories are gripping, it's his work with characters that keeps me coming back. He does a fantastic job conveying emotion through expression and body language. His space hardware and alien environments are both unique and classic at the same time. And it's a very LGBTQ friendly series. I've been a fan of Trekker since it premiered in the 80s, and I am so happy it's continuing to this day.
