James Riordan is driving through a Connecticut town in the midst of a horrendous winter storm. After hours of stressful traveling, he spots a run-down bar and despite grave misgivings, stops in for a drink. In a very ominous way, he learns that the four patrons currently in the tavern are regulars and that they all have one dark thing in common. He’ll also soon discover that not only the regulars share this bond, but the young dishwasher and the bartender do as well. While learning about this group of eccentric, sometimes likable, but extremely dangerous individuals, James, will learn how the mind can hide past sins and that the road to evil can range from a long twisting build up of rage — to one that is unprovoked and soon forgotten.
“The Gathering” Had me on the edge of my seat and covering my mouth in frightened disbelief most of the time. 😱 The witty humor mixed in with psychotic sociopathic behavior had me both rolling my eyes and cringing. The author kept my interest non the less. The description of the characters and the scenes made me feel like I was there .. and of course trying to think if I actually knew any of these characters in real life. Haha. I particularly enjoyed all the Connecticut references. The author definitely has an imagination and somewhat of a twisted mind. But that’s what makes him a great writer. Although I don’t usually read books like this mostly bc I’m a wimp,.... but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you.
Be forewarned although this book is a work of fiction it is on the dark side. The building of all the characters was excellent from the start to the climax as they all had some degree of past baggage. My favorite character was Leah, I found myself feeling sorry for her and somewhat understood how she turned out so twisted. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going it veered off to another evil direction. This book is sure to catch a readers attention and is hard to put down. Look out for the surprise ending! A must read!
As I began to read this self proclaimed 'dark' story, I found it a quick read and difficult to put down. The author has done a great job of building out the characters and sharing their backgrounds to help the reader to have empathy for each of them, even if their actions were deplorable. A great read!
As the Author, I really enjoyed writing this book. It was my first but will not be the last. I will expound on this story in the sequel. I hope you like it and feel free to ask me any questions.
I loved this book! The characters were so relatable in each of their own twisted ways. Loved the attention to detail without over doing it to where I lost interest. Definitely a must read for the horror/thriller fans!
From the opening pages of this story the reader is introduced to evil and darkness, both in characters and plot. The characters are well developed - Their stories are told in such a way that the reader is drawn in. To be sure this is the first time that I have had an introduction to the minds of serial killers. The story is original and well written. I would recommend this novel - and look forward to a sequel. Well done F.R. Rivers :-)
I couldn't put this book down. Great pacing, interesting characters and a mystery planted in the beginning that keeps you reading for the reveal. Very excited for a sequel
The book draws you in against your will and with many a misgiving, much like James finds himself drawn into the dark confines of the tavern and the twisted minds within. If you are a fan of True Crime, Serial Killers (truth or fiction), or simply horror, you will find this a fascinating read. Warning- NOT for the faint of heart!!
I found the concept very intriguing so grabbed this book to see what it was all about. I'm so glad I did, as I'm more than halfway through and can't put it down. My daughter is anxious to read it as well. Hopefully this author has more up his sleeve. I'm anxious to read more from him.
