Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent #3

#1 in Customer Service The Complete Adventures of Tom Stranger

Rate this book
No alien menace is too menacing, no galactic rift too rifty for the multiverse's most-trusted Interdimensional Insurance Agent in these three brand-new adventures and two classic escapades. Whether he's underwriting for an overlord, or wearing a pocket protector in a pocket universe, Tom Stranger has just one policy: providing quality customer service. With his trusty Combat Wombat at his side, and the world's worst intern in his way, Tom vows to insure and protect. And nothing - not an invading skeleton army nor evil dolphin kidnappers nor misplacing his favorite bowtie - will stop him from kicking ass and adjusting claims. Written by Audible number-one bestseller Larry Correia, and featuring the narrative stylings of Adam Baldwin, #1 in Customer Service: The Complete Adventures of Tom Stranger includes:

"The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent" (*previously released)
Tom must uphold the reputation of Stranger & Stranger Insurance, all while battling tentacle monsters, legions of the damned, an evil call center in Nebraska, and his arch-nemesis, Jeff Conundrum.

"A Murder of Manatees" (*previously released)
The beloved Wendell the Manatee is kidnapped. Armed with his battle mechs and his elite corps of junior associates, can Tom find Wendell before he's canned in oil? And can Jimmy the Intern channel his inner agent?

"Doughnut Run" (*NEW!)
Jimmy the Intern hands out doughnuts to the staff, and stumbles on an insidious conspiracy. Chaos and a perilous lack of glazeds ensues.

"Apocalypse Cow" (*NEW!)
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse walk into a Waffle House. Tom and Jimmy walk out. Civilizations across the multiverse threaten to collapse. Perhaps Jimmy should have stayed to finish his breakfast.

"The Custies" (*NEW!)
Will Stranger & Stranger be named Number One in Customer Service for the fourth year running?

Very Entertaining! This is a collection of short stories about an intergalactic insurance agent and his trusty if semi dimwitted intern Jimmy. They are all a bit on the silly side of life chocked full of pop culture references and digs on this dimension where so many statistically improbably things have happened that even the Cubs have one a World Series.

There are some right wing dropped funnies about current happenings in this dimension, which is so backwards Firefly was cancelled after one season...I agree Larry, I agree. And there are a lot of fun other versions or dimensions of earth where things went extremely different. Adam Baldwin is the president in a few of them.

These are just go along for the ride and see what happens stories as Tom Stranger stives to give the best customer service to his clients and thwart his nemesis who underinsures and runs call centers to make sure you continually go around in circles and never get the pay out you deserve.

The fourth wall is broken as Larry Correia of this dimension and others makes some appearances. This is just a light and ridiculous listen when you just want something a little different and fun.

P.S. No Manatees were harmed in this audiobook. Flooooooh

P.P.S Only one Dolphin was harmed in this audiobook, but to be fair that guy was a jerk and sorta deserved it.

Narration

Adam Baldwin narrates this and is pretty hilarious at it. I especially enjoyed when Adam got to play himself :P. But no seriously he brought all the fun to this book that it is supposed to be with all the easily dropped puns and banter happening throughout. I definitely thought his performance made the stories even more enjoyable

I gave up on this book not because the author is talentless but because he’s a hardcore Trump supporter — I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life.

This is actually five short stories. Not sure why Audible chose to do it that way, but I'm excited for any new Tom Stranger.

"Awesome weather and free stuff FOREVER!!!!"

Bonus points for mentioning Leo Moracchioli (though I prefer Africa to No Scrubs) and the vague Sad Puppies reference.

Great narration.

Most of the comments and likes below were in reference to my original 5 star pre-release review: "I don't like rating books before their release, but some butthurt snowflake rated it one star so..."

Excellent customer service and satisfaction, I will happily give Tom a 10 on his satisfaction survey.
1 star reviews from the minions of Conundrum should be ignored for the benefit of all dimensions.

#1 in Customer Service includes all the Tom Stranger stories recorded to date. I’m going to skip over the short book (Adventures of Tom Stranger) which opens the volume as I’ve reviewed it elsewhere and note only that once Correia got up to speed in that novel he never loses his pace again. This book is often funny and always absurd, with book 2 opening with Tom Stranger trying to come to grips with some strangers not having given his first book top ratings which is unacceptable to a man devoted to always giving top quality service. (He mistakenly believes that low ratings came from dolphins he inadvertently insulted in the first book.)

From there the madcap adventure spirals across several dimensions as Tom and his crew struggle to save a manatee (and thus advert interdimensional war), find a spy in their own midst, avert the apocalypse on our planet, and finally become #1 in Customer Service for the fourth year running. It’s an irreverent romp that stomps on all political persuasions and it’s a great read for anyone capable of not taking politics and the world too seriously.

Funny, very tongue in cheek and oddly cynical.

Oh and the audibook was good too.

You follow the mini-adventures of Tom Strangers in a format I can only describe as web-episode length. His Main objective is 10/10 customer satisfaction.

Sounds simple and goofy but this is one of those books where you know the author was just having fun and going into old man yells at cloud mode. Every second is used to throw shade on something the current generation are into or did. From gender rights degrees to the unholy man bun. Old man is waving his stick and hissing!

Now I am removing one star because there is only so much pop culture vomit one girl can take but I really did wish the multiverse was expended beyond obvious digs at current political/pop affairs. Hell we only get two seconds in the 50 shades dominated earth, could have milked that one a bit.

In the end this is a fun, goofy little romp that doesn't take anything seriously. Puts it's foot in it's mouth quite often and hops around on one foot from time to time too. Not a bad way to spend a credit or a rainy afternoon.

I really appreciate that Audible went ahead and put all the stories into one collection. It makes for a very enjoyable listen. I love this series. Though, I think I would rename it Jimmy the Intern Saves the World and Also Gets the Donuts! I've already listened to the first two stories in this collection. In the next three, we meet more employees at Stranger and Stranger: the actuarial team, the HR team, and even the accounting team! We also have some timey-wimey time travel paradoxes. Great narration once again by Mr. Baldwin. Skip if you don't like humor or sarcasm! Or are a dolphin. :)

An expansion of his earlier work including those stories as well.
The humor is broad, silly, and at times hilarious in this comic SF set of stories. I enjoyed them for that. I found making fun of liberal progressive people and policies funny at some times and a bit much at others.
If you won't be offended by the near reactionary conservatism these are funny stories well worth the listen for a laugh.

Interesting concept; an inter-dimensional insurance agent "resolves claims" when things from one universal accidentally or intentionally make it's way to another. I just didn't care much for the characters, story, or humor.

I wish I could think of a way to say how much I loved these books while still making a comment snarky enough (or asinine enough) to be read aloud at the next customer service focus group...

Mmmmmmnope!

Too much random senseless banter, and way too few threads of coherence to properly understand even the barest of meanings. A story that only Chuck Norris could comprehend.

This was a cacophony of nonsensical ramblings that drowned out the faint whispers of logic, leaving comprehension floundering in the shallows of meaninglessness.

Tom's discourse descends deep down into a labyrinth of inarticulate babbling, sentences twisting and turning like drunken alley cats after a champagne flooded debauchery while meaning becomes an elusive phantom, leaving readers utterly bewildered by a nonsensical allegory of culture and sense.

In the grand tapestry of financial transactions, a certain warp in the threads of reciprocation has emerged. I find myself compelled to request the repatriation of the aforementioned currency, so to speak, a remittance to rectify the imbalance in the cosmic scales of commerce.

Or in short: I want my money back!

4.5 stars lowered to 4 as reserve 5 for something I have read more than once or will read again. Although I did read/listen to one of novellas in this collection twice. Hmm, may have to come back and up the rating. Needed a break from the doom and gloom of what I have been reading this year (as well as from real news) and this delivered. Read The Adventures of Tom Stranger several years ago, was able to pick this up on an Audible sale so score. Chuckle out loud humour for me and biting sarcasm on several topics.

If you don’t get satire, this book is not for you. If you can’t laugh at American ideology on both sides of the aisle, this book is not for you.
If you can laugh at yourself and your ideologies, you will love this book. And Adam Baldwin does a superb job on the audio book.

A collection of two stories I’d already read and a few new short ones, this is straight up slapstick comedy in a multiverse sci-fi setting, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Guaranteed to offend hardcore leftists and snowflakes, but they probably aren’t reading this anyway so if you can’t take a joke, chill out!

At first, I was confused why people like this book. The writing is so immature, it seems like it’s aimed toward children. Then once you read all the right leaning commentary and insults to Obama, Bill Nye, gender study degrees, man buns, etc, you understand why it’s so immature and who the average reader is.

It is not what I‘d call „good“ in the strictest sense, but quite funny in parts and an entertaining listen. Alec Baldwin does a great job with the audio narration, and also is a character in some of the stories. There were some laugh out loud moments for me.

Any adventures with Tom Stranger are always welcome. This compiles the first two stories which I had already read (but joyfully listened to again) and three new ones. All delightfully satirical and hilarious. I only hope Larry Correia will regale us with more stories of Tom's adventures.

Some good stories. Some convoluted with a weak premise. Overall, if you like the previous audiobooks, you'll likely enjoy.

It just feels so..... random. Less Deus ex machina, more "bullshit ex machina". And I'd happily let that go and consider it just a silly string of short stories, except that Correia takes himself so seriously throughout the books (especially as he inserts himself as multiple integral characters and comparing himself to Stephen King) as to make it utterly ridiculous and moronic.

It feels like someone's private #sorandom fanfic accidentally got published.

I just can’t. I don’t know what about this book just is not clicking for me, especially since it’s a genre that I’m usually all about. But when I realized, in listening to the audio book, that’d I’d only been listening for about 3 hours and what it felt like was 13, I knew it was time to give up and move on.

I had listened to a couple of theses stories before and enjoyed them. I started listening to the third one and it turned to the worst type of propaganda. I have read a bunch of stuff from this author before and honestly enjoyed them but since he can’t leave politics out of his work, I am done with him.

I'm a pretty big fan of humorous science fiction (eg Hitchhikers Guide or much of Scalzi's writing) so this book seemed perfect. Well unfortunately not. More clever/funny than what I could write but not really very funny. A few things were humorous (eg making fun of attendees to sci-fi conventions, interacting with himself as a character) but most of it was not very novel or clever.
